Usually people contact me because they have a problem with their computer or peripheral. Perhaps because of my background in Quality Assurance at Lotus Development or because I took apart my father’s treadle sewing machine and put it back together again at age 4, I seem to be rather good at finding out what is wrong with whatever. I ask lots of questions, the answers help me narrow down the range of possibilities. My clients are small businesses and individuals

Established in 2001.

I’ve been involved with computers for many years. I took a summer course between 7^th and 8^th grades for fun. It was computer programming — this was in 1970, we had a math computer about the size of an older electric typewriter. It read punch cards, which we programmed using un-​bent paper clips to punch out the holes. I didn’t become a programmer, but I’m blessed or cursed with a logical mind, depending upon your outlook on life (Spock was my favorite character in Star Trek). I have become a small business operator out of convenience and necessity. The Dot-​bomb killed contracting, and I’m too independent with my views and opinions to be just another cog in some large organization — even at Lotus, I often spoke out about various issues related to our product or product direction — although as a contractor, I didn’t have to worry about my pension… I take great pleasure in helping my clients, and my most satisfying clients are those that want to know more about their computers.

I grew up on the outskirts of Tacoma, WA. I went to the UW and got two Bachelors degrees: BA Business Administration & BS Building Construction. I had wanted to be an Architect, but my parents had other ideas. By the time I graduated, I didn’t want to be an Architect anymore, but rather a designer — in time, I would seek this out in the form of Real Estate Developer. Which is when I went about getting an MBA from SFSU with concentrations in finance & marketing. When I finished my MBA, R/​E Dev’t had a big bust with the S&L crisis and by that time I had honed my skills with computers having been a financial analyst with a local R/​E Dev’er. I became for an IT Mgr. with Century 21’s local franchising office in Walnut Creek. From there I went to work at Lotus Dev’t. and contracted with multiple companies in San Francisco including Transamerica and Workers’ Comp. Ins. Rating Bureau of CA (WCIRB). After the Dot-​bomb, I started Ralph Doore Consulting.
