I started as a yoga teacher and professional childbirth assistant. I quickly became a HypnoBirthing instructor which has evolved into HypnoCentered Childbirth Education. This type of birth preparation focuses on relaxation, breathing, focused thinking, and the connection with the baby. People who choose this type of preparation are generally interested in a low intervention birth at a hospital or at home. I also teach prenatal and postnatal yoga, along with yoga for anxiety and depression, and hypnotic restorative yoga.

I also have a private practice in Depth Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy. Depth Hypnosis is a form of therapy that combines hypnotherapy with Buddhist psychology, shamanism, and transpersonal psychology. Please visit my website to read a full description of all the services I offer.

She brings a tremendous amount of knowledge, experience, and heart to all of the services she offers. Rachel is committed to helping her clients and students be who they were born to be. She is known to many as a gifted teacher who also leads yoga workshops for Anxiety & Depression and Hypnotic Restorative Yoga. She has created a professional hypnotic relaxation CD for pregnancy, birth, and beyond. Rachel is also a non-​denominational minister who officiates a variety of ceremonies.

In a word: fabulous. The class really helped us to take the time to learn about labor and birth from a perspective that’s less well-​known in our culture. If you’re _​thinking_​that this class could be right for you, my guess would be that it is. If you have a sense that you, your partner, and your baby want to be _​together_​and strong during this (amazing) experience, then this class really can give you the support that you want.

As you can see, people really like Rachel so rather than throwing out all the superlatives, which she whole-​heartedly deserves, I’ll try to stay succinct and informative.
Rachel has the right combination of experience and a deep, compassionate understanding of humanity to help on the crazy journey of bringing life into the world and all that entails, physical, mental, and emotional. She shares evidence-​based knowledge and a broad array of practical tools for handling pregnancy and birth. Beyond that, her unshakable faith in woman’s ability to face and experience birth is rare, contagious, and powerful. It helped keep me strong and steady on the path to the childbirth experience I wanted for myself and my baby.
She has the most beautiful, soothing speaking voice I have ever heard. She has a way of saying the word «baby» that makes both my husband and myself, who try and stay clear of sentimentality, melt. Staying connected to the baby was something we discussed in Rachel’s one day couples workshop. Through some very intense contractions, I was still able to see that light at the end of the tunnel, my baby. This time around I was able with assistance, to gently guide my baby out without tearing, into my hands and draw him up onto my chest to enjoy completely that first moment of him skin-​to-​skin. That moment in and of itself, made Rachel an invaluable resource to me.
Childbirth can be the most rewarding, confidence building experience a woman can have. Rachel enables this type of experience.
I’m still using her audios daily and find them immensely helpful in remembering to relax and be present with baby and myself. Thanks, Rachel!

Let’s start by saying I was open-​minded about hypnobirthing and hopeful for, though not deeply committed to having a natural birth. My husband and I took Rachel’s hypnobirthing class and liked the discussions and learning from Rachel about the labor and birthing process. As part of the class, Rachel creates recorded hypnosis podcasts which I listened each night before bed (well, to be honest I fell asleep listening to them every time). When I was laboring at home, I tried to remember and use the breathing techniques she taught us in the class for a couple of hours but eventually the pain became too difficult to manage. I then woke my husband up and pretty much trash talked hypnobirthing saying that there is no way anyone could just breathe through this amount of pain. I then tried to dance and move around because a friend had said this helped her. That made it worse. Then, finally, we listened to Rachel’s special recorded podcasts for labor itself. I felt immediately better and was able to breathe through the contractions. I sat for 3 hours in total silence just listening to Rachel’s voice and breathing and letting my body do its thing. The podcasts were the only thing that helped me out during my entire labor! Because of them, I managed to stay at home until I was fully dilated and got to the hospital with my baby at +1 station and ready to push!!! The baby was out an hour later. I SWEAR by Rachel’s techniques now!

The class was exactly what I had hoped it would be and more. Rachel really accommodated my special circumstances with my partner. I wish I had more time/​resources to do the longer workshops. I’m hoping to be able to spend more time working with Rachel in the very near future. I would highly recommend the birthing class, and suggest taking it as early in your pregnancy as possible, and then maybe even again right before if it’s possible.

Like you need to read another five star review of Rachel to know she’s THE ONE to help you through your education of labor and delivery. Well, she is. If you are expecting, you and your partner should sign up for her birthing class today.
My husband and I let Unilocal lead us to Rachel, and we had an incredible experience in her class learning about the birthing process (both home and hospital) and techniques to labor naturally.
Rachel’s personality really resonates with me: she is fiercely passionate about birth, calmly reassuring, and maintains a personal vulnerability that allows space for pregnant couples to breathe into their own vulnerability in order to optimize their experience in something so delicate and sometimes emotional as a birthing class. I really could go on and on about her as a teacher and guide.
I’ll finish with this — once I was well into 20 hours of laboring, my doula put on one of Rachel’s tapes. Her voice! I didn’t care and don’t remember what hypnosis she put on, I rested my mind and body to Rachel’s voice and it truly gave me the strength to keep going (through 36 hours).

I met Rachel through my prenatal yoga classes while pregnant and knew that I was very interested in her hypnobirthing classes. I was hoping for a drug free/​low intervention birth and Ioved Rachel’s approach. I was looking for a class that would help me feel empowered to have the wonderful birth experience, whatever it may be.
Most of these reviews are from women who had exactly the birth they were hoping for thanks to Rachel’s knowledge and guidance. From the start, mine quickly turned into the exact experience that I was hoping to avoid. But it was unavoidable. Baby was super comfortable where she was and wasn’t budging. Unfortunately, my baby was in distress and needed to come out, NOW. I used all of the breathing techniques that Rachel taught to keep myself calm and focused so that I would not panic when things got scary. Her voice was in my head the entire time. In the end, I delivered a healthy baby girl and I’d like to thank Rachel for helping to make it a positive experience.

Words can’t describe the benefits we reaped from attending this awesome class series! We did the four session which I highly recommend… We began the class thinking we would be having a hospital birth and learned throughout that we just wouldn’t be as satisfied given our spiritual background with a less than spiritual birth experience… Rachel doesn’t force feed you either experience but merely touches on the pro’s and con’s of each and leads you to material you can further your own knowledge to lead to your own choices regarding your birthing experience… The knowledge we have after these classes is invaluable to the experience it will lead us to. We learned things we would never have known otherwise as first time parents because we don’t often question the process but just go with what we’re told. We will be forever indebted to Rachel for our awesome experience and cannot wait to put everything we learned into practice with the birth of our first child coming up in November/​December sometime. If you yourself believe in the course of nature this is the right experience for you to provide the reassurance you need to trust the natural process!

My husband and I participated in Rachel’s one-​day class and we got so much out of it! I can only imagine the depth a couple could benefit from in taking her class series. I will recommend Rachel’s work to anyone preparing for birth. The tools are practical and applicable and the class is facilitated to foster a deep sense of connection between the couple and the baby. My husband and I both really enjoyed our experience in Rachel’s class. We appreciated her teaching and to be honest really miss coming to class! It was a form of therapy and helped me let go a lot of my fear. I also uncovered confidence that was already there and persistent which felt good. The only thing I would say is do your research in addition to taking this class as it is easy to get caught up in her rational for how low intervention you can get (which is good rational) however you may decide there are still some western medicine precautions from the hospital you may still want to take for the best interest for your baby. I’m still exploring those myself and may decide to follow her completely, but want to be 100% sure! Baby is due in 6 weeks. :)

With a myriad of birth classes to choose from, a video on Rachel’s website really caught my eye. In this video, the love between couples seemed to glow and everyone seemed extremely calmed and relaxed. This video along with a few videos of hypnobirthing we saw on youtube is how we became convinced that we really wanted this type of ambiance for our daughter’s birth.
Many exercises during the class fostered more love, communication, understanding and many other things that just made my husband and I grow even closer. The self-​hypnosis exercises helped me easily go into a very introspective state. During labor and birth, I connected with my primal self, which was huge in terms of staying focused. My husband was able to support me in ways I had not imagined. We were really able to have the birth experience we had envisioned and really «own» our experience tailored to our needs and desires.

I am so glad my partner and I took Rachel’s child birth class as it enabled me to have a calm, natural birth according to my wishes– not the standard protocols of the hospital. Rachel empowers you to advocate for yourself and your baby, helping you to create the birth experience that you want. The audio tracks that she provides helped us learn how to relax and prepare for the birth– we started listening to them months before taking the class. Rachel’s extensive experience as a doula, hypnotherapist and yoga teacher give her a wealth of knowledge and tools that she shares so openly in class. Her humor, stories and hands-​on practice make this class entertaining and engaging for both the mom to be and partner. I was fortunate enough to take Rachel’s prenatal yoga class as well, and practicing the birth breathing & relaxing in the class greatly aided my labor (which I went into the next day).
With Rachel’s guidance, I had a natural, relaxed labor and delivery, the deep relaxation between surges gave me the energy to sustain pushing for nearly 2 hours. The result was no complications, a faster recovery for me, and the incredible reward of a calm baby. I look forward to taking Rachel’s postpartum yoga class, and meeting up with the other couples that were in the birth class. I feel so fortunate to have taken Rachel’s birth class– I now have a positive birth experience to share & a happy, healthy baby as well.

Rachel is amazing and at this point (after our amazing birth) I am currently recommending her class to all of our friends and family that are expecting.
First of all, I am writing from the perspective of a birth partner and now a father. When we first came to Rachel’s class I thought I was prepared for the birth of our son and maybe I was, but AFTER Rachel’s class I was 100% ready no-​questions asked. Her teachings helped me to guide my discussions with the hospital staff who eventually helped me to coach my wife through the later parts of a beautiful and natural birth.
Not only that, but I acted as my wife’s coach during the early and middle parts of labor and I was totally prepared for that as well.
Rachel is an expert, a kind soul, and we are truly blessed to have her in the Bay Area. I couldn’t recommend this class more

I took Rachel Yellin’s childbirth preparation class as a doula and found it to be wonderful! I gained so many great tools that I can use with my clients. I would certainly advise my fellow doulas to attend this course. You’ll walk away with lots of juicy information, resources and tactics to consider when supporting expecting families.
I would also highly recommend that expecting parents take this class to help them remain present to the birth experience, change their perspectives of «pain» sensations, be so much more prepared for all of the things they’ll be exposed to during the birth process and for the intimacy and connectedness they’ll gain with each other!

My husband and I took Rachel’s class this past month and were so happy with everything about it. It not only connected my husband and I on a deeper level but there was so much information about preparing for birth, giving birth, what to expect at the hospital and then what to expect after you come home with your baby. The guided mediation was incredibly helpful if your wanting to have a natural birth as well as practicing touch with your partner. Rachel keeps it real too, she tells you the facts and really allows you to make the choices based on the knowledge of the 100’s of births she has personally attended. And she can be really funny when it gets into the awkward stuff:-)
She suggested I take the class when we were 7 months vs 8 months and now I know why! Cause as you get closer to tour due date its harder to sit still long so if you can take this sooner in your pregnancy like 6⁄7 months I suggest it.
I feel so much more prepared for this next adventure! I am so grateful to have met Rachel and will always suggest mamas and papas take this class.

I met her through prenatal yoga at the JCC and quickly signed up for her hypnobirthing class. Even though the sessions were numerous and long, the time flew by and the information and education we received can’t be beat!
Being fearful of birth before the class, I now know that I am going to ROCK THIS BIRTH, which I can honestly say wouldn’t be possible without Rachel.

I would highly recommend Rachel’s hypnobirthing class whether you’re considering a natural/​low intervention birth or even if you’re still not sure what type of birth plan you desire. We learned breathing techniques but also spent a great deal of time learning about the various stages of labor and debunking the ‘pain and fear’ that society depicts child birth.
Rachel is very knowledgable about all stages of labor — the positive aspects but also the unexpected situations that can arise. We learned about the normal protocols at hospitals and the various options/​rights that you have as a patient, a lot that I wasn’t aware of! The classes ultimately made me feel confident about the birth experience I wanted.
I honestly felt like I was well prepared for fulfilling my desire to have a non medicated child birth. I listened to Rachel’s hypnobirthing tracks weeks leading up to my labor, I would fall asleep listening to the CD most nights. I think the philosophy that your body naturally takes over and knows what to do really stands true.
Also, I gave birth at St. Luke’s in SF. I would also highly recommend this hospital especially if you’re concerning a natural childbirth. The staff was calm, encouraging and honored my birth plan.

My husband and I were recommended Rachel’s birth class by our doula and we couldn’t have been happier!
We attended the multi-​class format, which I would definitely recommend if it’s your first time taking her class. We learned so much about the mind body connection in birthing and I walked away feeling empowered, excited and as ready as one can be to take on one of life’s most exciting moments.
Prior to the class I was a bit nervous and anxious about giving birth (who isn’t?!) and Rachel really emphasized how to make the birth experience yours (whatever this may be for you individually), and how to deal with the challenging and wonderful situations that birth brings you. So often we hear scary stories about birth and without denying that it is challenging, she helps re-​frame this and focus on how to make it the most positive experience whatever direction your birth may take.
She also focuses a huge amount on you and your partner as a team, as a couple, and it really got my husband more excited about the birth and his role on the day. Her teachings are great for birth and your relationship in general!
I look forward to putting all I learned from Rachel into practice, and would HIGHLY recommend this class to anyone having a baby in the Bay Area. She is awesome, you will meet a wonderful group of parents to be and you and your partner will no doubt go into birth with a new found feeling of confidence, relaxation and excitement.

This review is long overdue! I consider Rachel to be an invaluable member of my birth team. She is incredibly positive, insightful, and helpful. I’ve exhausted her stellar list of recommendations for other healthcare practitioners. Through Rachel, I found my midwife (for a homebirth) and chiropractor.
I have attended Rachel’s prenatal yoga classes at JCCSF and I felt so good during and afterwards. I felt calmer, more confident, and less achy after each class. I lived how she incorporates breathing and giving birth techniques. She also shares positive stories and examples that helps remove fear of birth.
We took her hypnobirthing class too. It was really good and focuses on removing the fear of labor and delivery. The exercises and reading material are so helpful. I listened to her cd every day/​night and it helped me sleep and prepare for the big moment. My labor was long, but I hardly felt the pain. I was able to remain so calm during contractions that my doula and midwife thought I had a long way to go before it was time to push. Though, when my midwife checked, I was fully dilated!
Her Baby and Me yoga classes are amazing too.
I can’t say how much I love and appreciate Rachel.

Rachel’s classes are great! At the beginning of my pregnancy I had zero idea about how I wanted the birth of my child to be. Being from a foreign country. I had no idea about hospital procedures, relaxation techniques, baby vaccines, etc here in the US.
I enjoyed every single topic of Rachel’s classes and I learned so much from her classes and her textbook. The hypnobirthing CD helped me get through the first contractions but overall the classes helped me and my husband to be confident and relaxed through the entire pregnancy and the birth. Our baby is very happy and chill!
