R & D Building Maintenance

I met the owner several years ago through our condo association’s management company and I was experiencing regular water leaks. I hired him to do my first bathroom remodel and later to renovate my entire condo after the recurring leaks were finally permanently fixed. This included custom ceramic tile floors in the bath and kitchen, new tub, sinks. light fixtures, wall-​to-​wall carpet, closet shelving, trim, cabinet staining, two paint colors throughout, and probably other stuff I just don’t remember. In the end, my condo was impeccably finished and looks great.
He quoted fair prices, picked up the paint, suggested small changes I hadn’t thought of that enhanced the project aesthetically, and most of all, he did impeccable work at a very fair price. We did business on a verbal basis, and his word is his bond. It was a great relief to me to know that the work would be done correctly and thoroughly, and that I could totally trust him and his crew throughout the entire process.
He is also loyal to his clients, and will come during off times and hours, especially in emergencies. He is in high demand, but is definitely the only company I have or ever will use.

I called on monday and scheduled an appointment to have them come today (wed) to do some touch up painting inside my house. I took off work and waited at home and no one showed up. I called twice and no one answered the phone. Seriously, i thought i was doing the guy a favor by hiring him to perfom the work! He quoted me $ 45 per hour, its a really small job but I figured i would pay about $ 100 bucks if the work was good, Im done wasting my time, ill just call a real maintenance company to come out and paint!

I know you’re *supposed* to get a general contractor, not a handyman. The problem is that general contractors cost a lot more, and sometimes you hire a contractor that overcharges, cuts corners or ends up being a crook. The unique thing about R & D is the owner, Abel. Abel is an extremely trustworthy and knowledgeable person who, even after getting paid every dollar of the job will still come back to spackle and repaint those last few spots. Every day Abel would show up to give updates on where each project was, and how much longer it would take and unexpected issue that came up. This is more face-​time than most contractors are willing to put in. He’s also willing to roll up his sleeves and is skilled in many facets, like basic electrical and plumbing.
I hired R & D to manage an extensive project of repainting my condo, tiling my kitchen backsplash, pulling up old flooring, hanging light fixtures, reinstalling cabinets, cutting new baseboard molding and basically all the little stuff like rehanging mirrors and doors. The fan that sounded like a rocket in my bathroom has been replaced! I think fondly of Abel each time I flip the switch now. The entire team was respectful, took pride in their work, and volunteered to help clear the patio of debris they weren’t even responsible for. They power-​washed the patio after the weeks of built up dust all over without even a suggestion by me.
Abel has become a trusted member of our homeowner’s association after taking on many of my, and my neighbor’s renovations. He is someone our property management company can rely on to diagnose an issue before we have the pricey specialists come out. I am getting him on the Unilocal map because R & D does Unilocal-​worthy work and his reputation deserves to be recognized.
