Food is getting worst. When I moved to bay area at the beginning, this was my Phở place. If it is not because the location is close to bakeries and grocery stores, I won’t even bother to stop by. I asked for tea, but they gave me ice water. I ordered Phở noodles, but they gave me rice noodles. It took me 20 minutes for my order to come. I don’t want to wait for another 20 minutes. I just ate whatever they served. Soup was lukewarm. After I put the raw beef into the bowl for 5 minutes, the beef was still pink. Meaning the soup wasn’t hot enough to begin with.

So dirty. I found a roach in the vermicelli noodle… It was so terrible. I don’t want to try again… I don’t know the woman who was in there at that time was an owner of the restaurant, i saw her face looks like in anger and she yelled at their waiter. I pissed off so much i couldn’t finish my meal. It was disgusting. The roach was like dime size length. It reminds me that situation again while i’m writing this. I want to throw up. Even i couldn’t take the pic of the noodle. My friend screamed. Some guys saw that thing as well and they just left the restaurant right away after that.

My friend was craving Phở so we decided to stop by here for a late lunch. I’m Vietnamese from San Jose, so I’ve had my fair share of phở. I decided to opt for the #1 Combination Phở bowl(size medium). My friends got some oxtail stew, garlic noodles with chicken, and phở with rare steak and meatballs. I requested some onions with vinegar in Vietnamese and the server had a stumped face(I wanted to test out how Vietnamese this place was… the answer is not so much). So I asked for it in English and he still looked a bit confused. Later on he brought me a small sauce sized portion of raw onions and a bottle of white vinegar. I guess they don’t have that much request for this in SF… The bowls were a good size. My broth was pretty good. Then I commenced to put a crap ton of siracha and hoisan sauce as I always do. And almost a whole lemon(they didn’t have lime). They had enough noodles, but the real bummer was their meat portion was beyond skimpy. I mean, I think I had ONE small piece of rare steak in my bowl. Seriously?! My other friend who also ordered the phở concurred that they were very cheap with their meat portion. I tried some of the garlic noodles… it was pretty standard. Not really greasy so that’s good. The oxtail stew was just ok as well. All in all, I was disappointed with their portions.

Another delicious hole in the wall restaurant that has certainly become a local favorite! My baby sister and her friends love coming here for the delicious curry chicken with phở noodles or fat noodles and I must say, I agree myself! Upon walking in, it is a small restaurant hat probably seats about 40 people max, the restaurant is clean and the staff are nice. You can tell not a lot of people work there as a lot of different people assist with each order(your server is different from the person who brought you water or took your order or delivers your food), totally don’t mind it because everyone helps each other out. My baby sister got the bun with egg rolls and chicken I think, her friends got the curry chicken phở noodles and I got the satay beef phở noodles and all of them were amazing! We also got an appetizer of the beef capachio(I think I spelled it wrong) but it is very similar to a ceviche! The meat was rare with red onions, lemons, green onions, a sauce, and loads of peanuts! Very fresh and very delicious! The meat tasted amazing and melted in your mouth like butter! The chicken curry was delicious as well, it had a nice wonderful coconut sweet and savory flavor and the chicken was cooked perfectly– it tastes like the chicken was marinated in the curry sauce! The bun with egg rolls was delicious too, you can tell the noodles were fresh and the egg rolls were freshly made because it had a nice crispy crunch to it! My beef satay noodles were just as delicious, the sauce was made with their signature PPQ sauce and it was not greasy at all! With each meal, they put a bunch of noodles and meat in each bowl! The beef satay phở bowl was a nice soupy meal for a cold day as the curry chicken bowls were too! If you’re thinking the beef satay bowl as similar to bun bo hue, it’s not– this one has more of a peanut– chili base as bun bo hur has more of a lemongrass base. Each bowl was about 8.00 or 9.00 but oh so worth it! All in all, I am so glad my sister recommend to eat this place! Definitely coming back here for sure!

Save your time and go to Kevin’s across the street. Service was completely great until we went up to split our bill with two cards and cash. Our total came up to $ 40.73. We gave her $ 20 in cash first then asked to split what was left over for the two remaining cards. However, she transacted $ 10 onto each of the cards first and then the $ 20 bill. So, of course, we had a remaining $ 0.73 left over to which she overreacted and asked how we would pay it. She then proceeded to question our tipping RIGHT when I was writing my part of the tip on my receipt. I almost wanted to put a line through what I wrote and leave, but I’m too nice of a person to even do so. As I was a server myself, I understand tips go long ways. But, I would NEVER ask a guest for a tip. I suggest working on a whole lotta guest service. Won’t be coming back anytime soon.

Greedy … 3 large bowl of soup #1. Served with tiny plate of bean sprout and one stem of mint, seriously, 3 large soup. And price differences to medium is like a dollar. The difference in ingredients is meat ball. i found one meatball in my soup.

I’ve eaten here a few other times but always got just a regular bowl of beef phở. today, I was persuaded to try their curry phở and OHMYGOSH I don’t think I can go back to beef broth phở. #8 spicy curry chicken phở, that’s the way to go. their curry broth is so rich in flavor, with the hints of coconut in there, mildly spicy, and generous slices of chicken. I got mine with the round noodles(what they use for bun bo hue). come here for their currrrryyyyyyyy

The bf and I went to this restaurant after much debate since there is a similar Vietnamese restaurant directly across from it. I was told that the curry phở is delicious in addition to the Five Spice Chicken, so we went. He wanted the #1 phở on the menu and said it was his favorite, while I ordered the Five Spice Chicken with Rice and a Taro Milk Tea. Let me start with the Milk Tea. It was delicious! It came with real Taro(not powder) and little tapioca in the drink! I wished the straw they gave were bigger but it made us take our time with the drink and not down it all at once. The Phở was quite good, but perhaps because we took the food to-go, it wasn’t as good as it should have been. It was probably not as hot by the time we got around to eating it. The chicken though, was well marinated, but not too salty or sweet. And then it came with this mildly spicy vinegar sauce that went very well with it. Remember not to put too much though! Overall this was a great Phở place and even though Phở is not my go-to dinner place, I would absolutely eat at this place again no question asked! :) Even if I wasn’t feeling like eating Phở that day.

When tired of Ben Tre, Kevin’s happens. The small phở is big enough to kill a craving and the large is pretty big. It’s good but not mind blowingly good… but I can show you something that is… ;) …if you’re down to try their other location at westlake.

If anyone knows me, they know that phở is one of my favorite dishes in this world. I love the soft rice noodles, the hearty broth, and just the saltiness of the dish. So when I went out of San Francisco and tried other places, I was just thinking that it isn’t as satisfying as this place right here! This is definitely my go to place. I’ll come here pretty often for my phở fix. With that being said, let’s jump into talking about the service and food quality! CUSTOMERSERVICE/AMBIANCE: this small restaurant is located on Irving. Isn’t the most convenient place for me, but you can take the 28 and get dropped off right near it. It’s a pretty humble size, but I’ve never been when it was super packed. I get seated right away, and they usually let you just choose a place to sit. I get a menu and they offer tea at no extra charge, which is nice. I only get phở here, haven’t tried the imperial rolls here, but I want to try! Waiter/waitresses here are pretty nice and understanding. Recently I decided to try and customize my meat combination, and they happily did so with no trouble. So I like that a lot! The waitress I usually see there always refills my water and checks in on me. She’s very nice! I think the one thing that cracks me up is hearing 96.9KOIT on the radio they play while I’m eating. Nothing is better than listening to Kelly Clarkson while slurping on my meal! Haha. There are always chopsticks, spoons, and condiments on the table. Would rate ambiance 4.5÷5. Not a full rating since I just feel like the women at the cash register aren’t the friendliest. However, nothing is super horrible about the vibes from this place. I come here for the delicious phở! Let’s talk about that real quick. FOODQUALITY/PRICE: When I first started coming, I would get a medium #1. However, i don’t really fancy tendon or tripe, so instead now I get the well done brisket, flank steak, and meatballs with thin noodles and beef broth. It’s DELICIOUS. Not sweet like some other places I’ve been. It’s nice and salty, and very filling. I add some mint leaves, lime, and it’s amazing. Seriously one of my favorite places taste wise. Overall, I end up paying under 10 dollars for my phở since that’s all i get. However I tip pretty generously, so usually I end up paying around $ 11.50. I’m going to try their imperial rolls soon, since many seem to enjoy them! Overall, this is a great find. However I’ve always been curious about Kevin’s noodle house across the street here. Might try it, and update on which one I prefer. However I feel like I’m so attached to this place. Keep on doing good stuff PPQ. 4.5÷5!

BESTPHOWESTOFVANNESS — STREETPARKINGUSUALLYNOTTOOHARD! Not much needs to be said that hasn’t been said already. This place is awesome is you’re down to make the trip. Great everything. The phở is awesome, the rolls are awesome, everything is cheap! Pro Tip– Get the Satay Phở, my favorite thing here — got some nice spice, kicks just right, changes it up. Hit up the Chinese bakeries after for dessert.

My girlfriend and I decided to come here for lunch to try it instead of kevin’s noodle house, which is our usual phở spot. We ordered the xl #1 beef noodles and bun rieu(tomato crab noodles). My first impression of tasting the beef broth was that it was quite bland, but it tasted much better after adding some fish sauce to it. Same goes for the bun rieu broth. While PPQ may have better quality beef, it is also about 2 $ more than kevin’s, which is not worth it. The bun rieu was mediocre. There was a ton of noodles in the bun rieu and not much meat, but for 10.25 it still wasn’t worth it. Overall, I would stick to kevin’s for beef phở since their broth taste much better and it is also cheaper. I would come back for the bun rieu since kevin’s does not offer it on their menu.

I came here with friends a few years ago and they were explaining how amazing the Curry Phở was here. Being Vietnamese & being spoiled with the best Vietnamese food in San Jose, I was intrigued to try the Curry Phở since I’ve never heard of it before. Let me tell you, this dish is brilliant! If you’re a huge fan of spicy coconut soup, then this is the dish for you! I must admit that the dish is a bit heavy from the coconut milk but it won’t stop me from finishing the bowl! The portions are huge and definitely enough to share with 2 people. I also recommend trying the Imperial Rolls as well! It comes with lettuce on the side, perfect for wrapping the Imperial Rolls in and dipping it in fish sauce.

We came here on a Sunday evening, and the restaurant was full. But, even though we were 5, we got a table in a matter of minutes. I went to the restroom, which is a super big room(for a restroom), with a toilet, a sink, the hand dryer, and all the cleaning supplies of the restaurant. Kind of weird, but ok. We ordered water and our food. I tried their #1, which is a Phở with beef stock and lots of meat. To my displeasure, the noodles were basically clumped up in a ball submerged in the broth. That’s a no-no. Also, #1 comes with a lot of weird meat(like tripe). The broth wasn’t anything amazing. But, what I disliked the most was the service. Definitely not the worst, but it was not good either. They brought our water after a few reminders, and it was quite hard to get the waiter’s attention, even when we wanted to order the bill. I did like this shrimp appetizer that they have. Super tasty. But I was expecting for the Phở to be the star in a Phở restaurant. Maybe it was an odd day for them and they are usually better. But I’m not willing to come back to figure it out. For sure, I have experienced better.

Been here twice. Once because Kevin’s was closed and the other was because the line was too long. Great quality, a bit more expensive than kevin’s. I’ve had the phở and bun bo hue and the phở definitely was not as flavorful as kevin’s. Would I come here again? I would come here if already in the area with friends if other places were crowded but I would not choose to come here.

I haven’t been to PPQ in a hot minute(over 2 years) and I knew I would order the Chicken curry vermicelli! I also got vietnamese iced coffee but I guess I should have told them I didn’t want to wait for the coffee to finish dripping… I’m impatient. It’s a great spot to satisfy your comfort food craving. It’s not the cleanest restaurant you can go to but it’s close to my house and gets the job done.

My go to: # 8 curry chicken vermicelli but I always change it to phở noodles. My bf’s go to: #7 five spice chicken phở Both are delicious and I love that the broth is pipping hot. One criteria for me in phở is that the soup has to be hot, I hate lukewarm soup. When I’m not feeling like something hot, the vermicelli bun noodles are good, don’t forget the imperial rolls. I love their filling, I think it is taro, hot and crispy dipped in fish sauce :) Yummy!

Came to PPQ on a weekday night, plenty of tables and no wait. Staff was friendly and service was fast. I ordered a number 1 house phở medium size, which comes in a generous portion. The soup base is flavorful and not too salty, but could be bolder. There are a variety of meat and beef balls, and the tendons were very tender. Definitely an above average Vietnamese restaurant. Although conveniently located on Irving St, it is difficult to find parking around this area. Will come back to try the other items when around the area and craving Vietnamese food!

Came here for dinner on a cold rainy night. I would say 2.5−3 stars. Honestly the food was nothing to rave about. My friend ordered the satay phở, the broth was good but nothing exciting. I ordered the broken rice plate with beef. Portion wise, it’s standard for SF pricing. However, I felt as though the beef tasted more like teriyaki beef than grilled vietnamese beef. I was not too satisfied with the flavors of the meat and was hoping for more of a kick. I would go across the street for my vietnamese fix.

When you ride BART5 – 6 times a week and with our current El Nino system, you’re bound to get sick sooner than later. I someone managed to roll out of bed and make it to work and once lunch time came around, my co-worker suggested phở to bring me back to life. I’m never to turn down phở and was hoping some broth would be exactly what I needed. We hopped in the work truck and me our way to the Sunset. As we made our way into Phở Phu Quoc, my first impression was that it was small but bustling, which is always a good sign. Fortunately, we lucked out and as we entered we were quickly seated towards the back. The extensive menu has plenty to choose from but I typically always order a chicken phở. I settled on #9, the shredded chicken noodle soup($ 8.50), which is hand pulled chicken in chicken broth with flat noodles. In addition to the phở, I also shared the Five Spice Chicken Rolls appetizer with my co-worker. The rolls run for $ 6.95 and are soft rice paper rolls with their five spice chicken, lettuce, mint leaves and vermicelli noodles. With our order in, we sipped on hot tea as we waited for the appetizer to come out. Less than 10 minutes later, the chicken rolls were served and we devoured them before I could even get a shot of them. An order comes with three rolls, sliced into six pieces. Moments after I took my last bite, the phở came out and I was pleased with my choice to get a medium bowl as the large would of been too much even for me. The phở was steaming hot and was exactly what I needed with my running nose and headache. The chicken was tender, the broth was flavorful without being greasy, and the noodles were plentiful. I did like the combination of flavors but it needed heat and Sriracha was the only hot sauce provided, unfortunately. Overall, I was pleased with the phở at Phở Phu Quoc but it wasn’t as flavorful or delicious as I would of hoped. In the city of San Francisco, you have more than your fair share of options and although PPQ is passable, it doesn’t have me rushing to come back. I will say that service was great and the Five Spice Chicken Rolls were a must have, and perhaps next time I’ll order the Five Spice Chicken phở. Ambiance/Décor: 1⁄5 Food: 3⁄5 Service: 3⁄5 Price: $$ Overall: 3⁄5 Pros: + Large selection of phở broths + Delicious Five Spice Chicken Roll appetizer + Reasonably priced + Quick service + Credit cards accepted Cons: — Not the most flavorful phở(#9) — Only hot sauce is Sriracha

This was definitely a go-to Phở place while in college for plenty of reasons! 1. Price– definitely affordable on a college student budget! AND! You get more than what you paid for! Depending on the size you get, it’s about $ 8-$ 9. 2. Quality– SOWORTHIT! They’re pretty consistent with taste. You won’t be disappointed! 3. Service– seated pretty quickly so you can grub & bounce in between classes! TIP: bring cash for faster service. BUT! Parking is difficult. So take that into account. 4. Food– SOYUMMY! My favorite was #1, that was my always go to. Then I found #8. The curry chicken phở, omg. MMMMMM. Get it. You will be in HEAVEN!!! I love this place & I definitely miss it a lot. You don’t find a lot of Phở places that offer curry chicken phở. That alone always makes me want to come back for more.

How can you not like PPQ? This is my go-to place for phở when it is raining and cold. I typically get the chicken phở in a medium and its delicious. It is with the thicker white noodles than your typically noodles but I’m okay with that. Warning for those who get a large: it is even MORE noodles so unless you need carbs a medium should be enough. Their imperial rolls are awesome and my other choice would be the five spice chicken phở because you get it on the side and its nice and crispy. I love the broth because it is light enough to drink but it has great flavor to it. Only downside is that it does get crowded and people are ridiculous and decide they need all 10 of their friends with them to eat phở and take up way too much space. If you end up right next to the door like us you’ll see peoples butts right next to your food and people talking and chewing gum as well.

I want to give a 3 stars because of what happen, but I been here sooo many times, it’s always good! ALWAYS! What happen wassss, my friend and I came in STARVING! There was ONE empty table but it fit for 4 ppl, and the ONLY table that was for 2 is LITERALLYRIGHTNEXTTOTHEDOOR! So I guess we sat there. Ordered our food and started eating, then.. a marker drops in my bowl..(marker was from the clipboard that ppl write their names on), of course my dish was replaced with a new one. Anyways, the food is always good as I mentioned, my chicken is soooooo flavorable and tender. I even ate my friends phở and soup, service isn’t great but they’re attentive when needed, place is small-ish but it holds a good amount. I’ll be coming back later and next time, NOMORESITTINGBYTHEDOOR.

Happened upon PPQ during a weekend pilgrimage to TPumps(what else do I do with my weekends, really). The Vietnamese restaurant across the street had too long of a line, so we happened upon PPQ. We were seated pretty quickly and got to ordering. The restaurant seating was a bit cramped and service was a bit spotty — sometimes staff was very attentive and other times they looked pretty confused coming out of the kitchen. But at the end of the day, all I care about is the food. And boy, was the food delicious. I ordered the #1 Phở, and it was incredibly satisfying. The broth had the deep, savory flavors I look for in noodle soup, and the variety of proteins in the soup melded together perfectly. Noodles were al dente without being too soft. Overall, it was a very balanced, delicious, and satisfying bowl of noodle soup, something that I am constantly on the search for.

I give it a solid 3 ½ stars. It’s my favorite Phở noodle house in SF. Been coming here for a long time also. I don’t know if it’s just my imagination or the food quality and taste is not quite as good as it once was. Today I ordered #32 grilled beef Bun. I swear they used to put a good amount of beef in the bowl. But not today. There were lots of noodle and veggies. I like their grilled meat and I wish there were more of it. But not today. I also had some of my wife beef Phở. No complain there. It’s as good as always. The price is reasonable I guess. Most food in the city isn’t cheap. And if it’s cheap then it’s generally isn’t good. PPQ is in the middle of the road as far as the price for a noodle house. I would rate them higher but they could use some help as far as cleanliness. My wife and I once saw a roach crawling up their wall while we were eating our food. It was quite a turnoff. I didn’t make a big deal. Figured is part of the Asian food scene in the city. It is what it is. I’m sure it’s worst in some other place. Service is hit or miss but isn’t a big deal. I never expect much going into these kind of restaurants.

The PPQ family(PPQ Noodle House on Irving St and PPQ Dungeness Island on Clement St) have established themselves in two of the most Asian neighborhoods in SF. I tried PPQ Dungeness Island not too long ago and was unimpressed with their crab family-style dinner. And sorry to say, but I wasn’t as pleased with their Noodle House branch either. The five spice chicken noodle soup was decent overall. The dark meat chicken was really flavorful, with moist and juicy meat and a well-seasoned, crispy skin. However, the accompanying beef broth with phở was tasteless. It was extremely bland and needed loads of sriracha and hoisin sauce for added flavor. Many rave about PPQ’s curry chicken vermicelli noodle soup, so I may give that a try next time if I were to revisit. I’m sure there’s a playful war between PPQ and Kevin’s, with regulars constantly arguing which of the two is far more superior. But in the end, I side with Kevin’s, as they’re far cheaper and have much quicker service. PPQ will receive a second visit from me only if it’s past 10pm(as Kevin’s closes then).

I’m just not a big fan of the place. My buddy and I have discussions all the time about PPQ and Kevin’s. Like, I’ll eat here if I’m with him, but maybe not on my own. I’ll give it to PPQ for those imperial rolls, but unfortunately last time I went to show my girlfriend how good the rolls were they forgot to even bring me my order for them! As for phở, I’d go with Kevin’s. I ordered the rare flank and beef ball here and didn’t like the balance of ingredients. There were about 5 – 6 pieces of medium size flank and 4 beef balls. On the contrary they gave me way too much noodles. It’s definitely filling, but I’d rather have more meat and flavor. I also would’ve preferred more green onions and cilantro. All in all, it was meh. Meh.

I’ve been to this places many of times to probably try about everything… lol. Not the best phở as in broth, but the meat quality here is awesome! They also do not skimp out on the noodles either. But yes, I wouldn’t say it’s the best phở, but my go-to for that high quality meat. Trust, it was not love at first sight, I took time to appreciate this delicious meat compared to all the other joints on Irving. And yes, I’ve been to many, like too many. Anyway, I usually go for number 1, which has everything in it. I sometimes opt for the bowl with no beef ball because they taste kind of funny to me. It doesn’t have the elasticity of other beef balls I tried. Or maybe I’m picky. Imperial Rolls — I always order this as an appetizer. Love their imperial rolls here. Always crunchy, crisp and a delight to eat. I usually wrap it with a piece of lettuce, cucumber and a mint leaf and proceed to dipping it in the yummy fish sauce. 10⁄10 would recommend these rolls! Beef Carpaccio — tried it once, but fell in love!!! Raw slices of thin beef ribeye meat topped with lime, peanuts, fish sauce and green onions!!! Didn’t think it would taste that good, but the quality of their meat is great and super fresh. Vermecelli noodles — I liked it very much when I got bbq prok with eggrolls, but this is the dish they did skimp noodles and meat. I wasn’t that full after my meal =/The quality of everything in the bowl is great, but just wasn’t so filling. Porkchops over rice — Meaty portions of porkchops over rice. Tasted delicious and not too much fat on the porkchops. Bun bo hue — ehhh… Could be better, not the go-to for BBH. But I did try some of my friends’ soup noodles of curry chicken and the satay beef noodle soup. Totally a good hearty soup noodle dish if you’re trying something different and trying to get your appetite up! Fresh slices of chicken breast in the curry noodles, so you can’t go wrong.

FIVESPICECHICKENISSOGOOD. Planning to come back soon to get just the chicken. I just wish that the portions were a bit bigger and that the service was a bit friendlier. While our food came out lightning fast, there was no sense of hospitality. Also wish the restaurant itself was cleaner; the bathroom was really dirty ;(

What happened to this place? It used to be my favorite phở restaurant until tonight, specifically because of their rich, flavorful curry chicken phở. I’ve been craving it after not having it for months so we came here for dinner only to be disappointed by the watered down broth that hardly tasted like curry. Ugh. The charbroiled pork rolls were also smaller than I remember. I hope it was just an off night because I don’t know anywhere else that serves curry phở. :(

If you love anything fried, then you will fall in love with PPQs Imperial Rolls! They’re stuffed with vermicelli noodles, shredded carrots, and pork, and are deep-fried to a crisp perfection. Once you dip ‘em into that fish sauce and take a bite, you’ll be smitten too! PPQ is my go-to spot for phở in the Sunset. I’ve been here at least a dozen times and they consistently turn out delicious and inexpensive noodle bowls that keep me coming back. Most people order #1−3, which are the beef noodle phở bowls with brisket, tendon, tripe, beef balls, etc. The Spicy Chicken Curry Phở is another solid pick and one that I overlooked for awhile. Once I tried it though, it became a common order! The broth has a mild curry flavor that is slightly creamy it really does pack a lot of heat, so if you’re a lightweight, beware! Still can’t decide? The beef stew bowl is a good choice too! If you want to splurge or are feeling adventurous, try the Beef Carpaccio. It’s fresh, tangy, and delicious! Just beware of the peanuts they throw on top if you’re allergic. Not the greatest service because they’re always pretty packed, but they’re good about acknowledging you when you flag them down. It’s also standard for them not to clear your dishes until you’re finished with your meal, so just push those empty plates aside and chow down!

This is actually one of my favorite phở places in the city. I’ve had all kinds of dishes from here, but I gravitate towards their imperial rolls and spicy noodle soup. *Hue spicy noodle soup *Sides for Hue spicy noodle soup *Imperial rolls It can get crowded at times and parking can be awful in this area, but it’s worth the patience! Their noodle soups are that good! Full of flavor and very comforting. When I’m craving soup, I know PPQ will hit the spot!
