Park Chalet Coastal Beer Garden

We made a reservation outdoors a week ago for 10 people for Father’s Day. When we arrived we were seated at a table with absolutely no shade for all 10 of us. When we asked for umbrellas we were told by the floor manager, Ben, that they had none and that they have no control of the weather. He couldn’t even find an alternative fix. I had to point out that there was an umbrella that was available and if he can move it. I also had to point out that if the tables are moved a bit, parts of the table would be under the shade. He did all the moving with lots of noise. Asking another helper would have been less disruptive to the patrons. On top of that he was very condescending when addressing me. We were the biggest group with a week-​long reservation. You would think they would make these many customers satisfied.

Came here yesterday with family from France. The server, whom I did not get a name nor could I get my hands on the bill, was the most unprofessional server I’ve ever had. He had a fancy mustache, forearm tattoo and plenty of attitude. At one point he literally tossed forks on our table without a word and walked away. The food was great, but unfortunately won’t be coming back.

We were here yesterday after some Fort Funston fun with our pupp. The outside patio is beautiful, with a very relaxed and causal atmosphere, live music, bloody Mary’s. It was lovely. Was the service good? Not really. Yes, food took time, and we had to ask for the check three times. But if you are aiming for a nice relaxed weekend meal with family or friends, I think this is a good choice. Food was nice, and the location and ambience were wonderful.

Lovely environment for sure. You can sit outside facing into Golden Gate Park. The facility is inviting and charming, but the service was ghastly poor. They were busy but we were able to get a table for 6 rather quickly. We were thrilled because it was outside on the patio. Our waiter was overworked and incredibly distracted. He refused to make any recommendations! Hmmm. I wonder why. Just some of our orders arrived 35 minutes later after a few requests about why the delay. One friend’s order did not arrive until everyone else had finished their meal. The waiter did not apologize; he just said «that is how it is at this place.»
The food was mediocre at best. The fish tacos were OK, but the kale salad was not edible. I bring guests to see the sights in SF frequently, but we will not be back.

Awful experience. Too many great places to eat in SF. Service was not just terrible, it was atrocious. Both servers and managers were too busy talking to one another, than taking care of the guests.

Came here for the convenience of being in the area with a friend visiting. We were able to get in quickly but service was lack luster. Our wine came out about 2 minutes before our lunch. The food was underwhelming but expensive for what it was.
Nice view of the ocean across the street but I honestly felt like I was in a cafeteria or something. Not somewhere I’d visit again. There are so many better places to eat in SF.

Park Chalet has a wonderful patio (where dogs are allowed) with live music on the weekends — so much potential.
But every time I have been here I leave completely underwhelmed. Both the food and service have A LONG way to go.
Wait time for taking an order and then receiving the food on both accounts is crazy — to the point where we wondered if they remembered we ever ordered food. Our entire meal took about 2 hours — do not come here if you are in any kind of hurry.
When our food finally came out only 1 out of 4 meals were delivered — with the server coming over to ask us what the rest of us had ordered! — the other 3 meals came out about 5 – 10 minutes later… cold. Everyone’s food at the table was edible (actually we were all just starving because of the wait) — but it is way overpriced for the cold/​poor quality.
The Corned beef reuben: Corned Beef, Dijon Mustard, Sauerkraut, Onion, Swiss Cheese, Special Sauce, on a Pretzel Bun was lackluster. Super small amounts of corned beef and kraut — making the star of the meal the bun (which could have been toasted).
Two burgers were ordered: 1) well 2) medium rare — both were cooked the same.
I’ve also sat at the bar to enjoy a glass of wine and the service there is just as bad. Slow, unresponsive, thoughtless and they never look like they are trying to hustle no matter how many customers they have waiting. Even when we paid out we were charged someone else’s tab and had to get it readjusted.
Thankfully the Bloody Mary was decent but otherwise — No thanks.

The service at the bar is so bad that I asked the manager if this was a for profit business. Waited 25 minutes and finally gave up on getting a $ 12 cocktail. I worked in the restaurant business for eight years during college and graduate school and I have never seen a bar so poorly run as this. With a line out the door and money literally raining down on them, a rookie bartender was struggling to mix cocktails, two others were working the service bar, and the person who seemed to be the head bartender decided that this moment was a good time to do inventory. While shocked people stared amazed. People were abandoning the line, the restaurant was losing money, and the bar staff was completely unfazed.
I did speak to the manager who said she’d been there a week. After a few sentences the head bar tender came over and pulled the manager away from me into the kitchen. I said «you guys suck, this is the worst run bar I have ever seen.» The head bartender actually said «we’re trying!» I said «trying??? You were doing inventory during the rush, what kind of ‘trying’ is that???»
I get that the location makes it special and so it’s a monopoly and that sometimes it’s dead as a doorknob. But shouldn’t the profit motive motivate the owner to want to serve people quickly rather than see money lost to people who leave? That’s usually been the reason capitalism works to satisfy demand.
I can only guess that the owner doesn’t know how bad his managers and bar staff are: any normal person would have fired them on the spot in and restaurant I’ve ever worked at.

You won’t let me order food inside for the lawn and won’t let me order food outside on the lawn. WTF? You wonder why the managers change all the time… things like this. You want to lose money and customers… done. (avg tab for 4 with drinks = $ 150 – 200 or more) Will head somewhere else for dinner. (Note: Inside banquet area empty. Inside dining area, 25% full. Outside: full). Hint: Let people eat outside… just a thought.)
Asked to speak with the manager and told her what happened. She said nothing. Was she a mute? Perhaps that is the communication that they have on their staff. We walked out and headed to Pacific Café (hint: better food with wine while you wait).

Unbelievably bad service! We came here after our sons’ graduation at 11:00am. We were told by an employee that they didn’t open until 12:00 but we could wait until they opened to be seated and we wait for almost an hour. When we tried to get seated, a «manager» named Ranelle rudely told us we should have made reservations because in that hour we waited, the tables had been filled with reservations online. Even though we were told we should wait and were assured we would get seated multiple times as we waited, they told us they wouldn’t seat is.
The manager essentially told us it was «too bad» and we didn’t make reservations. Reservations for 12:00 noon on a Wednesday. Reservations that a good manager would have secured for us when they told us to wait for an hour. In the end they sent us away with no table, our two 8^th grade graduates with no celebratory lunch. We ended up going up the street to The Cliffhouse where they were more than happy to accommodate us.
As someone that works in a fine dining restaurant, I am horrified by their treatment of us (of anyone) and would think twice about ever going there again. In fact, I doubt I will ever go there. I’m a native/​local San Franciscan (and SF tour guide) who will never recommend this place to anyone for this reason. So sad…

Came here as a meeting place after the Bay to Breakers. The weather was perfect. We had a table outside, the drinks were delicious!
They have excellent libations.
The Food:
One word… YUUUUUMMMMMMYYYYYYY
I ordered the crab roll. This thing as soooo good.
Fresh crabmeat, on this amazing perfectly toasted bread. Talk about heavenly!
The staff was a bit slow, but they were waaaaaaaaaayyyyy over packed.
I didn’t like the bathrooms were sooooooo far.
But the food, the drinks, the perfect beautiful weather, and scenery made for a perfect post race gathering!!!

Bartenders busy socializing; waiter bickering with bus boy; had to get our own silverware & condiments; food took an hour to get to the table; waiter suggested we order our own drinks at the bar because wait time was long; and food mediocre. I used to dine at Park Chalet A LOT, but had not been back in a few years. What happened???

This place is really lovable. Had to wait for some time but nice selection.

I really really want to love Park Chalet but after a sub par dining experience I will not be back.
My two girl friends and I came here on Mother’s Day, prepared for a wait due to the holiday, but when we arrived we were told they were not seating anyone as they were booked up with reservations — even though over half of the tables in the restaurant were open… weird methinks.
After spending 10 mins trying to snag a seat at the bar, the hostess runs over to tell us, low and behold, they CAN seat us.
Commence the slowest dining experience ever. Friend 1 orders the beer flight, while Friend 2 and I mull over drink options. Amelia our server was speedy with the first beer flight, and once we saw it, Friend 2 and I decided we would each get one as well. (What is not to like? Tiny beer pints, and so many tasting options!)
It then took 40 MINUTES TO GET BEERS. 40 MINUTES. I have never experienced such a long wait at a restaurant in my life. We couldn’t fault out server as she had to get the beers from the bartenders, but come on?! How can the bar be THAT backed up when there are tons of open tables. FINALLY we get our flights around 5 – 10 mins before our food. the beer flight was a ton of beer, so with a big lunch we had to chug the beers to actually drink them chilled (it was really hot in there too). Not a fun experience to feel like you have to rush to try everything and not actually enjoy it, when a beer flight should be relaxed and fun.
I then mentioned to our server that we really weren’t even able to enjoy the flights after such a wait and bad timing and didn’t think it was right to be charged fully for them, so she brought over her charming (JOKE) manager. Instead of discussing the situation with us/​apologizing for the unnecessary and extreme delay, he proceeds to patronizingly tell us that there was «NO WAY» his restaurant could have possibly taken that long to bring out our beers, and it has «NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE.»… EXCEPT IT DID. I’ve never complained about food/​drink delays at a restaurant, but I’ve also never waited 40 mins to get a beer… He spent about two minutes arguing with me about time frames, and trying to bully us into agreeing that a 40 minute delay for beers was impossible/​acceptable.
The Park Chalet needs to get new management who not only know how to run a restaurant, but are respectful of their customers! I’ve never been treated so rudely at a restaurant, especially one in which I’m paying for overpriced food. We will not be back.

Nice setting but the experience ends up being pretty awful.
I spent $ 75 on 2 orders of fish and chips and 2 glasses of wine. For that price, I would expect at least a pleasant experience.
Guys, you should be professional restauranteers. Here are a few tips:
— Maybe wipe down the outside tables more than once a few years. I’ve seen bowling alleys that had cleaner carpets than your tables.
— Speaking of tables — yours are broken. All of them. Buy new ones. With the prices you charge, you can surely afford it. And while you’re at it, buy ones that are able to be wiped down after every turn.
— Get someone out there to power wash the patio once a month at least. When I had a restaurant, we power washed everything, including the parking lot, every week. Yours is disgusting — there’s grease stains and unknown dried liquids everywhere.
— If you serve an appetizer, bring side plates. We already have to touch your dirty table tops — it would be nice to not have to look at them (and the stains on the ground) while we eat.
I get it, it’s a nice location and you can make money without trying by catering to drunks. But that’s just sad.

As I walked out the back door, I found people everywhere enjoying perfect weather listening to live music, and enjoying delicious craft beer. A perfect place for a Sunday fun day of relaxation and chilling. If I lived in this area, I most definitely would be here often!

Beers are great, bartenders awesome. Sitting inside works. Only giving 3 stars because sitting outside in the lawn and trying to order is a joke. 45 minutes now and still can’t place an order. I’m literally typing this as we leave to go eat elsewhere.
At first the busser said to order from bartender. Cool, they switched it up from the last time we were here. Bartender apologizes and says the wait staff has to take our order for outside. The wait staff outside says she isn’t our waitress and the one with sunglasses is… but she’s inside. Says we can order from bartender. Told her we couldn’t. So we calmly wait. At least we have our drinks from the bartender, but the kids are hungry. Another 25 minutes and several passes from the waitress with sunglasses, but far away from us and she doesn’t look our way. Other waitress looks at us a couple times but ignores our stares. On the third time she turns away from us, she goes and pets a dog instead. Maybe I upset her for asking if we could place an order, and now she won’t serve us?
We’ve had better service when they were busier than this. But this is frustrating and we’re all starving. Likely just bad luck, but I can’t shake the feeling they just don’t care. We are outta here. Ugh.

Decided to come check this place out with a friend on a Sunday. There was a game on and we were told that the wait could be up to 40 minutes since it was packed. We were also told that the bar and some of the bar stools and tables were first come first serve so we decided to scope out anyone leaving. We got lucky and scored one of the stand alone tables right across the bar. We had a few drinks. This strawberry mimosa concoction was pretty good. I saw some outdoor seating that would be super chill for a nice sunny day in SF. I definitely want to check out the upstairs one day from what I heard has a nice view.

That’s a shame.
I came to this place right when it opened multiple times, I’d drive half way across town for the fish and chips: Amber brown, rich and fluffy batter, perhaps the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. We would drag family out here. My wife loved the pizzas, the calamari was delicious, you really couldn’t go wrong.
Clearly new owners or new chefs or something has happened in the years that have gone by. We happened to be in the neighborhood and had lunch. The fish and chips was like your classic bad restaurant fish and chips — thin, soggy, and square. I’ve been smelling my fingers for the last hour — they smell like bait. The fries were limp and luke warm (more like room temp), my kids ate one of the sliders and just left it and asked to go.
Didn’t matter, playoff football was on every tv and the entire place was drinking beer. Clearly the food is not a priority here anymore, which is too bad. I’ve never found fish and chips like they used to serve since…

Vegetarians Beware!
I often take my friends visiting San Francisco to the Park Chalet, because I love their delicious made-​on-​site veggie burger, with all the traditional fixings. (They used the leftover mash from their beer making.)
I brought my house guest there yesterday and it was missing from the menu. I was told they stopped making it. We got up and were going to leave when an employee suggest we go upstairs to the Beach Chalet Restaurant and try their «beet» burger.
The beet part was correct but just putting something between hamburger buns does not mean one can call it a burger. Presented with an amorphous, beet and carrot squishy thing topped with spicy aïoli and curry raisin vinaigrette, sans onion, tomato or lettuce does NOT a burger make.
It was a nice (albeit expensive) try but I’ll have to find some place else to bring my guests.
Note: most of my visitors are not vegetarians but, I’m selfish, I want to go where I can find good animal-​friendly food.

I really loved this place. I’ve driven by it several times and wanted to give this restaurant a try so when the hubby and I went to CorgiCon at Ocean Beach we thought it’d be a perfect time to try Park Chalet. To get to it, you walk through the visitor’s center downstairs. In the back you find a really pretty restaurant with glass ceilings and walls that open up. The walls open up to a grassy area area where you can sit at tables or chairs and enjoy food with your dog!
We enjoyed the bacon crab melt with a frisee salad. It was delicious! I don’t get crab melts very often, but this one was really good. The drinks were even better. I had a delicious strawberry thyme lemonade. It was perfectly sweet and boozy. My husband got the fuzzy buffalo and declared it one of his favorite drinks ever. Delicous drinks on the patio right by the beach, that’s something I’d do again!

Came here in a Thursday afternoon to celebrate passing the boards with some friends. First thing to note, is that the Beach Chalet restaurant is upstairs, while the Park Chalet bar and restaurant are downstairs. Clear glass windowed walls, fireplace, indoor and outdoor seating, and plenty of space. We sat at the bar and went with the $ 13 beer sampler to get a feel for it all. The stout is wonderful, dark and slightly chocolatey, and probably my favorite that they had. My second favorite was probably their copper ale, which was nice and smooth with just a little kick. Our bartender was extremely nice, sociable, and happy to join in on conversations which we enjoyed. I wish I got his name!
The fish and chips were decent, but actually lacked flavor. I wanted more from the fish without having to request for more tartar sauce to go with it. The seared ahi burger was great though and had an awesome sriracha aioli sauce that matched really well with the ahi.
All in all, I’m definitely coming back for happy hour 3−5pm for more drinks, but will likely pass on the pricey mediocre food.

Got a dog who has been in the ocean water for a good 1.5 hours. Chased the birds, sniffed the butts of her friends, found a live dungeness crab, stole a sand digger from a three year old, rolled in sand after in pure joy, and now tired. Both the dog and her mom. What do you do? Well, I chatted with a gal who’s from San Diego who had a dog as well as I was getting ready to leave OB. She said go there. Use the bathroom, get some food. My companion said, «didn’t you remember seeing the murals? We went there before.» I retorted, «Wrong person, wrong date. Sorry. Never been.» But doggie needs water. Mommy needs a place to wash her hand. So off we went.
Dog friendly restaurants are a special breed of restaurants. You have to compromise on somethings. Patio dining. Got seated in 20 minutes. Excellent source for drinkable water. Sunny day. Lots of dog people who came up to say hi to the dog. Grab a blanket and head for lawn service.
Do whatever you do, but keep your dog away from your sweet potato fries, onion rings, or rueben sandwich.
Stay with the basics, don’t try to go fancy. This is not Per Se, Jean Georges, not even State Bird or any number of foofy restaurants found on Valencia street.
Enjoy the fries and sandwich. Let your dog chill. Have a glass of wine. Say hello to your neighbors’ dogs. Or not. It’s the park. And it allows dogs. And seeing that’s the fall, the sun is finally out and Indian summer is upon us. Could be a lot worse, if you ask me.

Park Chalet was a great spot for a post-​beach cleanup happy hour. My office (~20 ppl) sought out Park Chalet for the warm fireplace and happy hour cocktails after our cleanup.
We were spread out over 3 tables as we were THE ONLY PEOPLE in the entire bar/​restaurant. We had a waitresses tending to us, who was a little off. I had previously scoped out the menu online to see if it would work out for our team of 20… so I knew there were great happy hour prices.
When I walked in, 3 members of our party were already two drinks and a pizza deep. I noticed the waitresses offer menus to each of our other 17, but she neglected to mention or hand us the happy hour menu. I asked her to share the happy hour menu, as it seemed really shady she didn’t offer it off the bat.
During a HAPPY HOUR, customers should not have to ASK to see that discounted drink menu. It was rude that she let our first 3 members order off the regular menu, and that I had to ask for the happy hour menu.
