Ocean Hair Design

Well, I have tried just about every hair salon in my neighborhood (Oceanview), and finally today found the place at Ocean Hair Design. Allan did an awesome job cutting my hair and I feel great! I am very happy with the results, he gave me the cut I wanted and worked with my wavy hair to make it look outstanding. I will be back, and bring my kids, too! Thank you for keeping your pricing affordable!

$ 35 for a decent haircut? Cindy gave me exactly what I asked for and was able to squeeze me in the day of. Forty minutes later and no complaints here!

Cindy was great and I went at a time when the Salon was not busy at all (Tuesday — 1.30 pm). Cindy knows her stuff about hair and she took the time to explain how to take care of my hair better and how to use the right products! I am very happy with the haircut as well. Thank you Cindy, I will be back!

The staff was really welcoming and considerate of the hairstyle you want. There was a lot of verbal communication throughout the process on their part which was very nice. Overall, I would definitely come back!

Cindy cut my hair and it was great. She took her time to get my haircut done perfectly and she’s very nice to talk to. She kind of reminds me of my mom, I felt like I was at home when she was cutting my hair. She give kind opinions about my hair and don’t push me to buy hair products which other salons do.

Allen has been cutting my hair for the last year and a half. Definitely helps to call ahead and set an appointment.

Finally I’ve found the hair salon that I’m gonna stick with. I like how she gets my instructions really quick and how she suggest on what she thinks will work for me. You can really tell she knows what she’s talking. Cindy is the woman every girl that are meticulous when it comes with their hair.

I tend to not have much luck with hair cuts but this place did a great job. I definitely would recommend making an appointment before going here.

She said 15 minutes. I waited 30, and she only just got half done with putting curlers on another person. It shouldn’t be that difficult to make an accurate time estimate when you are working on ONE FREAKING PERSON.
Or maybe she’s just been watching too much Dragonball Z.
I walked out, didn’t even get the haircut.

Cindy always does my hair and I always end up receiving compliments when I’m out and about. I’ve had my hair colored in various colours (brown, black, blue, purple,.the list goes on!). The hair coloring process takes a long time since Cindy lightens my hair in a way that keeps it as healthy as possible. You can tell she genuinely cares about the health of her clients hair.
I also tried Olaplex as a treatment after colouring my hair. The results were fantastic! My hair became softer and shinier and still is today (it’s been two weeks since I had my hair done).
I recommend Cindy and the Olaplex treatment.

I agree with Anna Z. that you get passed if you are not a regular. Allen is nice. I did get him, too. However, he is multi tasking. My appt was 1030am and I am still seating with my hair with the dye on my hair. He is on his 2^nd other customer which he already finished 1 who came way after me. My younger daughter came with me for an extension which he said will take 5 or 10 minutes and she is still seating and waiting!!! Allen is nice, but he could of taken my daughter first. We are going on 2 hours since we arrived for an appt. And the others were a walk in!!! — I am giving a 2 Star for the waiting cause he should finish with me and my daughter. The walk-​in came for her hair color like me and she has left the bldg!!! And she is a regular. I am a new customer. I could of been a regular. And a good tipper. Hmm.
It is 1300 hours and I am finally done from my 1030am appt. Like before. Allen is nice, but multi taking with 3 customers with hair coloring is quite not appealing for the first one with the appt esp when the first one with the appt did not get the first to leave at least an hour ago. Allen does know what he is doing. I am not upset. Cindy just got to my daughter after 4 – 5 customers who came after us. Yes. Regulars. We should be out of here by 1330 hours.

1 star for the lady that told me the wait would be 15 mins which ended up being 50 mins. She cut all the regulars hair before mine and I showed up first.
5 stars for Allen who ended cutting my hair instead. He was awesome. My hair used to look messy, uneven and unmanageable. Now it looks styled even when it isn’t. I love it!

I was here last year. I’ve been getting a haircut somewhere in the Mission, and been paying over $ 80 for a haircut I don’t even like. So I decided it was time to go somewhere else. I called in the morning, and scheduled an appointment in the afternoon. I actually came in based on the reviews.
As I walked in, I felt like the place hasn’t been changed since it opened. I was a little scared, I’m not going to lie. The place felt a little dusty and old, and I felt like leaving. but since the reviews were good, so I was going to give a try. Anyways, I was explaining Allen the haircut I wanted, and he started cutting my hair dry. It was very unusual, and I asked him if he didn’t have to wash it first, he said it was better to cut the hair when is dry… Ok I guess. I’ll trust him, he’s the professional.
Allen is a friendly guy, he gave me lots of tips on how to care for my hair, and best of all, he did exactly what I wanted in my hair, even better! I’d definitely come back, and lesson learned: «don’t judge the book by it’s cover.»
By the way, my haircut was free! I let this guy that was waiting go before me, since I knew I was going to take longer, and without noticing he paid for my haircut, and Allen just told me that after he left. I didn’t even have time to thank him.

I got my hair cut by the man who works here. I think his name is Allen, but I could be totally making that up.
I’ve been trying to grow out some terrible, choppy layers so I wanted to get a trim, but wanted to avoid cutting too much, since I already had layers in my hair that I felt were too short.
Allen did what I asked without me having to tell him too much. I could tell that he understood what I wanted and I knew I was going to leave with a decent haircut.

Very bad service. I waited at the desk for 5 minutes and no one came so I sat and waited for 3 people to get a hair cut only to have the lady tell me to come in later for another appointment. BAD SERVICE!!!

Fast haircut, and Allen worked so quickly and precisely I was in and out in no time. Had a great attention to detail, and was very friendly.
I’ll definitely be going back!

I’ve been going to Cindy for haircut for the past year and I have to say that she is good and I’m very happy out the door every single time. I have median straight long hair and she trims and shapes them just right. Cindy has been in business for 10+ years and you can’t go wrong with that. Price is very reasonable, too. Like the comment below — if you are an average folk looking for a good place to maintain your hair without breaking your bank, Ocean Hair Design is the way to go.

It’s been another two years and both my husband and I are now regulars at Ocean Hair Design. Cindy and her husband are very accommodating as usual.

I was a hair gypsy traveling from hair salon to hair salon just to find a hair salon to call my own. It really should not be THAT complex to get your hair cut, but it is. You would think price plays a big factor in customer service, the hair cut, hair style, and ambiance? Cindy provides a top notch hair cut, easy going atmosphere (totally unpretentious) and you leave feeling like you did not empty your savings to get a hair cut. I’ve tried various spectrums of hair salons from the most expensive trendy salons to the cheapest Chinatown ‘salons’ where you will leave with the most horrendous hair cut ever and tears running down your face.
I totally recommend her! She is such a sweet lady. This shop is run by her and her husband. Total mom and pop shop!

Allen and Cindy have been cutting my husband’s hair for 7 years or more; mine for about 5 years. Their shop is not fancy, but it’s clean and comfortable, and they take good care of you. I have never had a bad haircut from either of them, but I think Cindy has a finer touch for a woman’s style. I appreciate that they both listen to your needs and desires, make suggestions, but don’t ever do anything you ask them not to do (cut your hair too short, for example).
The value simply cannot be beat. We travel about half an hour out of our way to go here, but it’s worth it. Every time we try a salon closer to home, we end paying a lot more and are less satisfied with the results. They are never allowed to retire ;-)
This isn’t going to be the place for you if you need ambience and the very latest trendy colors/​styles, etc. But for the rest of us average, working-​class folks who want to look good without breaking the bank, I don’t think you’ll go wrong with Ocean Hair Design.
