Nova Jazz can be customized for any occasion to play as a trio which includes saxophone, upright bass and piano or guitar, or as a quartet with the addition of drums to bring added excitement and dance-​ability to any party. Vocalists are also available.

Daniel Heffez, Musical Director, Tenor Saxophone

Born and raised in New York City, Daniel started playing the saxophone at the age of 6. While at The Crane School of Music in New York, he studied classical performance with Tim McAllister and Jazz Improvisation with Trombonist Bret Zvacek. Inspired by the great history of jazz, he relocated to the West Coast and founded Nova Jazz.

Daniel is a well respected saxophonist in San Francisco’s jazz community and has received impressive press coverage including a front page feature in the SF Chronicle’s Datebook section, July 2007. In addition to coordinating Nova Jazz, Daniel composes original music and can also be seen playing with Lenny Williams of Tower of Power and also with The Family Stone Experience.

Nova Jazz Band recently played for a private event on board the USS Potomac in Jack London Square. The set up was fast and easy, the band members were very respectful of the historic qualities of the ship, and the guests on board absolutely loved the music. I would definitely recommend them !

When you think of perfection, you think of Nova Jazz Band! We recently had Daniel and the band play during our wedding reception at the Brazilian Room, from start to finish they were amazing. Daniel was great constantly communicating throughout the months leading up to our big day.
On the day of the wedding we had the quartet, sax, guitar, bass, and drums, they helped set the mood and people loved every single minute of it. I still have people rave about the music. Daniel you guys rocked!!! If anyone is looking for a jazz band in the bay area, Daniel is the guy you are looking for!!!

Nova Jazz Band is amazing! When I was looking for a Jazz band to play at my wedding reception, they popped up. I contacted the main musician, Daniel, via email. He was very professional and made sure everything would run smoothly on the day of our event (since he was not going to make it).
For our reception, we requested a Trio plus a vocalist. They contacted me two hours prior to the event to notify me that they were on their way and the approximate time that they would be arriving.
When they arrived, they knew how to set up, and used the event center’s sound system. As the bride, I assumed everything was going well because as soon as it was time for them to play music, they played! They were amazing! They added the elegance factor to the whole event. I had friends and families asking about them because of how beautiful they performed that night.
Their level of professionalism throughout this whole entire process was stunning. They helped make our reception perfect and memorable that night :).

Fantastic music, well-​dressed musicians, amazing vibe. We hired the group for a grand opening event in Pacific Heights, SF — it was lovely and in many thanks to Nova Jazz. We booked Nova Jazz for our holiday party at our office. They were great! We have a historic office building in Downtown Redwood City and hosted the party in our lobby. We were unsure how the band would actually sound in the lobby, but they did a fantastic job at keeping the tone and volume of the music just right! Everyone was very pleased with the music during the party. I definitely recommend Nova Jazz to anyone looking to spice up their party with a little jazz music! Thank you Daniel and the Nova crew! We hired Nova Jazz for our company Holiday Party last Friday. They are amazing musicians and made the atmosphere at the party very special and memorable. They played the perfect style of music for the event (a Bond themed party) and at a volume that was just right. Daniel was very easy and professional to work with. I just wish we had hired them for longer than the 2 hours we did. I hope I get the opportunity to book them again for something else.

We had Nova Jazz Band in our private events space this past weekend. Man. were we blown away! They really know how to feel out a crowd and keep the vibe up! I couldn’t believe that they were playing live as the sound and synchronicity were so on point throughout the whole set. I’m a former professional jazz musician lucky enough to have played with Natalie Cole, Huey Lewis, Tower of Power, Artie Shaw, Wynton Marsalis and others, so when I planned the entertainment for my recent wedding in Napa, it was really important that I had the very best in live music. The talented Nova Jazz Band was all that and more.
Daniel was a treat to work with– professional and very accommodating, even when our start time had to shift a few days before the wedding.
Choosing them to be a part of our wedding was one of the best decisions we made– I can’t imagine a better group to work with.

I was recently photographing a wedding in Berkley and to my delight I meet the Nova Jazz Band. These guys were great! Super professional, prompt, great personalities and wonderful to work with. One quality that really stood out to me about the band was what a great job they did of reading what the crowd wanted. They were very polished and kept the volume of the music at the perfect level.

As a professional wedding and event planner, I work with many bands. Some sound great but are tough to work with, some are responsive but not well-​rehearsed, and you hope for the best. On occasion, a band stands out as polished musicians and professionals, and then they become the band to keep at the top of the recommendation list. Nova Jazz is that band.
Daniel and Nova Jazz were a delight to have at a recent wedding. They were punctual, professional, and easy to work with. They had no problem with pausing their set for an impromptu toast, and were easygoing and appreciative about meal breaks. They adapted to the outdoor reception setting easily, and I felt absolutely comfortable leaving them to play. They did not need a long explanation about what to do, or have a list of surprise requirements. Rather, they arrived prepared, played beautifully for the reception, and did not need any hand holding.
Their sound is tight and harmonious, and the jazz they played was classy, fun, recognizable, mellifluous, unobtrusive, and exactly what the couple wanted.
If you are looking for a great combo for your next event, I highly recommend that you contact Nova Jazz Band!

We saw Nova Jazz band at Café Claude and I was taken aback by how good they were. As a fellow musician, I can honestly say that these guys were on another level — it was much richer music than I was expecting to find at dinner. They were playing familiar tunes, and playing them in appealing ways, but still finding really interesting things to say while playing them. My conversation probably suffered.
It’s not everyday that I sign in to review a band on Unilocal,but I’d love to see them again — perferably at a place where I can focus on the music.

I hired the Nova Jazz Band for two separate events.
The first was for a small intimate wedding where they played the cocktail hour and evening entertainment. I was impressed with the professionalism and courtesy provided to guests as well as the volume of the music. Not too loud! :) I also was impressed with their repertoire and music selection.
I also hired them for a larger corporate event which was about 200 people. They were on time, prepared and equally professional. They had people dancing, and were played a great variety of tunes appropriate for this event.
I would hire them again in a minute because they are reliable, easy to deal with and able to adjust their music according to the type of event. Their rates are also very reasonable!
