Niloufer Hamsayeh, DDS

Hamsayeh permanently damaged my wife’s jaw/​tmj and performed work on teeth that, as it turns out, didn’t need it. She Installed a crown on a tooth and when it didn’t fit right, she ground down the opposing (real) tooth to make it fit. During the procedure, she did something to my wife’s jaw that has left her with years of pain and difficulty opening and closing her mouth. To cap it off, during the procedure she severed my wife’s lingual nerve while injecting anesthetic. This has caused years of pain and discomfort. My wife now has chronic problems with her jaw and several years later still has not recovered the feeling in her tongue. Hamsayeh never admitted any wrongdoing, never even apologized, never followed up or checked on her. She blamed the anesthesia for the nerve damage. I write this review now because years after this traumatic event, my wife’s problems that were caused by Hamsayeh are still a daily part of our lives.

I have a very sad and alarming case I would like to share to ensure other people benefit from my experience and have the proper information to make an informed decision when entering into cosmetic dentistry.
I like Dr. Hamsayeh as a person and have been an extremely loyal patient since ²⁰¹²⁄₂₀₁₃. She is great for general dentistry and I have spent thousands on things like crowns, fillings and cleanings over the years. I have built a rapport with her and when it came time for veneers I thought I would be in good hands.
I had half of my front tooth bonded from a 4^th grade accident. The bonding was great and held up for years! It was recommended I replace old bonding with a veneer and recommended I had all 4 front teeth done for the best/​most aesthetically pleasing outcome.
In May 2010, I paid 8k for 4 veneers and trusted Dr. Hamsayeh would do a good job based on what she sold me on and my rapport from her.
Immediately after, my gums (where veneers were placed) became very red, extremely swollen, bloody and odd looking.
I called to inform the Dr. and was told it could be an infection and prescribed doxycycline. Since this was not an infection (and later I would find out it was from ill-​fitted veneers – margins were wrong) this problem continued for months.
I did go to 2 periodontists who both said the veneers margins were not correct and would have to be replaced.
I informed Dr. Hamsayeh of the news from 2 periodontists and even offered for her to speak to them on my case. She came back and offered to replace veneers and stated she would «stand behind her work».
Having spent 8k already and trusting Dr. Hamsayeh would deliver on what she promised I made MULIPLE TRIPS, out of my own pocket to San Francisco to have veneers replaced by her in October 2015 (after having to wear temporary veneers for a month)!
Immediately after the 2^nd time Dr. Hamsayeh put veneers on my 4 front teeth all the same issues existed AND I had some new ones including: the 2 front teeth not touching and looking like duck feet! Dr. Hamsayeh told me the front teeth did would move closer and even insisted a new retainer (which was also another excuse and expense) would solve issue.
Back to the periodontist and advanced prosthodontist office who ultimately helped me. They are both on staff at USC and World renowned experts in their space practicing in Southern California. I was informed by both the periodontist and prosthodontist I would need to have all 4 veneers replaced. The margins were not correct and in addition there was a ton of cement in gums causing me many issues. I had offered to connect Dr. Hamsayeh with my periodontist to review my case. Feel free to look up his credentials (Dr. Homa Zadeh) he is a leader in dentistry, as well as, the prosthodontist he works with. Their opinion is very well regarded.
In December 2015 Dr. Hamsayeh did speak with my periodontist and prosthodontist office on the full report of my case and extent of problem. I tried to reach her multiple times and heard nothing! This is very saddening and alarming, especially after how much trust and money I had spent with Dr. Hamsayeh.
In April 2016 I had all 4 veneers replaced by an advanced prosthodontist in Southern California. One of the best in North America! I finally have healthy gums again and my health is improving daily. I no longer have bloody, swollen red gums like I did after Dr. Hamsayeh’s work. I also have been advised to open multiple peer-​to-​peer review cases, contact the American Dental Society and write Dr. Hamsayeh a personal letter requesting refund for botched work. I have done all these things. Due to Dr. Hamsayeh’s ill-​fitted veneers (two times) I could no longer trust her to care for my health and had to spend 8,800k to have expert fix work done by her and place new veneers.
I am still waiting to hear back from Dr. Hamsayeh personally on the status of my refund – this is extremely fair given the circumstances and facts. I have suffered emotionally, physically and financially from this.
I have many pictures to show along the way before and after and can elaborate should anyone be considering cosmetic dentistry here. If this happened to Dr. Hamsayeh or her family she would have been very upset. I trusted her with cosmetic dentistry and it took a major toll on me and my health. If anyone is considering cosmetic dentistry it is not enough to have some with a good portfolio, who advertises in New Beauty (just dollars spent) and a member of the ADA. My advice to anyone entering into cosmetic dentistry is it should only be done by an advanced prosthodontist, a highly specialized individual focusing on aesthetic restoration.
Side note: My husband is a surgeon and I have family members who are medical malpractice lawyers. My review is based on medical facts from highly respected doctors of dental surgery in specialized fields. I have been fair and honest and expect Dr. Hamsayeh will do the same.

OK begin with I hate dentists. However I have been seeing Dr. Hamsayeh for more than 18 years off an on, and I totally love and admire her as a person and as a Dentist. She has taken care of my teeth for a long time, and I have not been a good patient at all. I hate flossing, or all the things that she told me to do… she is patient with me and just takes care of me, through emergencies and all that.
If you have to, have to go to a Dentist she gets my vote any day.

Great dentists are hard to find and guess what guys… this is the one to keep!

Im also excited now that she also offers Ultherapy… a facelift with now downtime.

Dr H is the best dentist. She literally rebuilt mouth. Gives her home and cell phone number to patients for emergencies. Calls to make sure you are feeling ok. Comes in at 5am if you are in pain feeds you milkshakes! Gives you scented pillows and is an ARTIST when it comes to cosmetic dentistry. You will love this office
