New Age Nails

I have come here on and off for the past 3.5 years because I live nearby and I always thought they did a good job. Recently it seems as if the whole place has changed and there are mostly new people working there. I went in for a gel manicure and pedicure last week and I’m sad to say I won’t be going back anymore. The pedicure was fine, but the polish chipped after only 1 day. The gel manicure was not great. First, she filed my nails unevenly then when it was time to put them under the lamp, they had to try three different lamps before finding one that worked, but they had already painted on the base coat so it didn’t set properly. So now, I’m 7 days post gel manicure and the polish is lifting on about 8 of my nails. Usually my gel manicures last 12 days minimum. Once we moved from the pedicure chair to the tables to get a gel lamp that worked the woman who seemed to be in charge kept inspecting my nails and correcting the manicurist. Because the manicure wasn’t looking that great, I guess I appreciated it, but I ended up with polish on my skin and bubbles of polish on some nails. Maybe my tech was new and being trained, but I would have like to have been told that and maybe received a discount. I’m sorry, but it seems like the quality of New Age has gone way down hill with the new people and I won’t be going there anymore.

Very happy with my experience here, I got a gel French mani + normal pedi and both turned out perfect. The salon is modern and clean! Cathy was great — very professional and pleasant and definitely knows what she’s doing! Will definitely be back!

Love this shop! I used to get my brows threaded here, but they became a bit thin (hence, the four stars)
However, I NEVER go anywhere else for a gel manicure! I have loved every gel manicure I have had here. They also remove the gel very beautifully and my nails look great even between gel manicures. I have been to other salons who remove harshly and ruin my real nails.
The gel also lasts 2 – 3 weeks! I am a teacher, so that says a lot because I do a lot of nail-​chipping tasks. Definitely recommend New Age Nails for a gel manicure. (I have never had a pedicure or regular manicure here, but I see many regular clients here for those services!!) The staff are also very nice and remember clients.

Good local nail salon — walking distance from my home. It’s also next to Little Vine (so I often bundle getting vino & artisan cheese after I get toesies done!). They have the usual spa lounge massage chair and they do a good job. Pedis come with a complimentary leg scrub and for/​lower leg massage. If you want the kind of polish that lasts longer (aka «weekly»), then they have it (cost is $ 3 more but it lasts longer). I got that and sparkles over it, too. The gals who are here are cool and easy going. But most importantly, they do a very thorough and clean job. They maintain their pedi foot rubs well, too.

I have no problem w small, neighborhood nail joints.
I don’t even have a problem when the staff speak in their native tongue to one another so that the customers that speak English (which is all of them) don’t understand.
I’m even okay w a cramped & cluttered space. I’m there for a service, after all. I’m not there to hang out & visit.
But…
all of the above, plus it’s NOT CLEAN?
No. No. No.
First off, how is it that a space this small is not kept clean? It’s the size of a closet. Tiny translates to easy to clean.
Then there’s the hygiene. Or rather, lack there of. You need to take the time to sterilize all equipment in between clients. I have zero confidence that this was done here.
And upon reading the review where a would be client witnessed a technician sharpening her nail file out front on the street curb…
well, I wish I’d read that before I booked my appointment here.
I booked an appointment to have my acrylic removed & a mani & pedi. When I came in, I was told that they don’t remove acrylic here. I told them I specifically stated that that was what I needed to have done on the phone when I made the appointment. They then said they would do it. Really?
The only good thing I can say about my visit here was that the girls were nice. They kept telling me that they didn’t want to hurt me while they were removing my acrylic. But you only need to tell me once; I’ll let you know if you hurt me.
The whole experience was a fail.
There’s nothing «new age» about this place. I’d honestly rather do my nails myself, which is saying a lot.

Went in today for waxing with Cathy and she is awesome. She is fun to chat with and made the whole process very comfortable. She takes her time and is meticulous! So glad I found my go-​to gal for all waxing needs.

I love going to Vietnamese nail salons because I love being able to chat with my manicurist while she works on my nails. Elizabeth from New Age Nails in North Beach did a highly detailed job on my nails. Her paint job is the best I’ve ever had. For all you RED lips/​nails enthusiasts, you know how hard it is to match the perfect red to your skin color. I have an olive undertone, so gel #37 was the perfect red for my hands — it has a purple-​ish undertone to the red.

I am so impressed by how thorough and detail-​oriented my waxing experience was, especially considering the price ($ 13 for eyebrows) and the fact that this is just one of many generic nail salons in the area. I lucked out!
I’ve been getting my eyebrows waxed for over ten years and I’ve never actually had a beautician relay the art and science of eyebrow shaping to me as she does her work. Cathy was one the first person in many years to point out how certain parts of my eyebrows had been undercut or overcut and how she specifically removed only certain hairs to maintain both shape and cleanliness.
Furthermore, she went ahead and herself plucked out in-​grown hairs as my part of my regular facial waxing and mentioned she’d use a hot towel next time to open up my pores and go from there. Mind you, once again, we’re at a nail salon and I’m just paying regular price.
I’ll definitely be coming back as a regular.

I was walking by and considering a manicure here when I saw one of the «technicians» using the disgustingly dirty street curb to sharpen her metal nail file out in front of the shop.
Presumably the same file she’ll use later on an unsuspecting customer. That’s on Grant street, the same curb where bar-​going revelers often relieve themselves.
Nope. Nope. Nope.

I’m disappointed. Completely fine with the no-​frills atmosphere, but between being basically impossible to communicate with my manicurist (I wanted glitter on the tips and she paints the whole nail, etc), a painful cut on my finger, and being sent home with polish still on my fingers around my nails, I doubt I’ll be back.

Love this spot! It’s a little more expensive than the salon just a few doors down, but I find their work is very thorough. It’s a smaller space but they’ve recently made interior improvements — and it’s always very clean!

Great Value for Money. The ladys are friendly, especially to those who treat them with respect. I got a mani pedi and was done very quickly. As I was on crutches at the time the two ladies who took care of me made sure I was comfortable during my entire visit. The salon might not be fancy but the quality of the service is better than in most higher priced and fancier salons.

I went to New Age Nails for a gel manicure. Disclaimer: I’m just visiting San Francisco, so I’m comparing my experience here to places that I frequent in the Seattle area.
I was able to call and make an appointment only 30 minutes ahead of time. Although multiple people came in while I was there and had to wait, since the space was pretty small.
I gave three stars is because the $ 30 gel manicure (much more expensive than I’m use to paying) resulted with bubbles in the polish on a few nails and poorly executed painting along the cuticles.
I will say that the preparation of the nail and the maintenance of the cuticles were done well and thoroughly, and the employees are very kind.

awesome manicure for $ 12! i got super good service and care for a small price, and the ladies are so nice and sweet. the place is getting remodeled, and you can tell they have a regular folllowing cuz everyone was commenting on recent changes! the only downside is that the color choices arent as good (for regular polish). their GEL selection, however, is MAD GOOD! will be coming back for sure.

Love this nail shop because Wendy is fast but great at painting. I mostly do gel manicures with French tips, which takes a skilled nail artist to paint and draw the white tips. Wendy does a great job at matching my manicure to the shape of my hands. I hate it when nail artists paint the tips too wide, which makes my hands appear stubbier or gives a fake look. I naturally have long fingers and big nail beds, which has its pros and cons. Mostly pros :) Wendy files my nails perfectly and paints my nails to make them appear longer and more feminine. She is very meticulous about cleaning my cuticles, which I appreciate because clean cuticles make your manicures appear polish. Even though it’s busy, it’s not difficult to get an appointment.

This is not the spa but your nails will turn out better than expected. It’s a very small space and it is not fancy. I was able to get in and out very quickly though without making an appointment.
I got a gel manicure for $ 30 and it lasted weeks. The person who did my nails was very friendly and knew a lot about OPI colors. She was able to recreate one of my favorite colors that was not available for gel.
I will for sure be going back!

I am usually fairly lenient on my ratings, but this place is so bad that me giving them a star at all is being generous.
My friend and I got our appointment fairly quickly and easily over the phone, but that should be a given since I called nearly a week in advance. I understand that we were half an hour early and could kill some time wandering the area, but at least offer people the option to look at color selection (which is fairly small). When we came back at appointment time, we were rushed to choose colors when there was only one seat available anyway.
So, once color choice was selected and style for nails shown, a TON of complaining (about color choice, length of nails, why we want this shape, why this design and switch when don’t look right, etc.) — mostly in Vietnamese. For the record people there, I AM VIETNAMESE AND SAID I CAN UNDERSTAND YOU. Totally disregarded my warning that I knew EVERYTHING they were saying and continued to b***h about every little thing and self praise themselves for s**t they really don’t deserve. Thank goodness for my background as a business professional — know how to plaster on a polite smile even when want to scream.
How did it all turn out? For me, from far away, nice black French tips (nothing special for my birthday because they messed up the complicated designs and made simple designs uneven). Up close, uneven french tips, bubbled base color, uneven texture/​layer of nail polish, nail polish gunk under my nails, and more flaws. For my friend, from a foot or farther away, you would see blue nails. Up close, micro-​thin black French tip on those blue nails and a tiny bubble bump on a finger or two. Oh, did I mention we both were doing gel manicures? These type of problems don’t usually happen with gel manicures! It’s supposed to be one of those perks that comes with paying that extra bit of money to do gels instead of regular nail polish!
As a side note, they reuse tools (unsanitary), overbooked (the later your appointment, the more likely you will have quite a wait time), a tiny and cramped place (only 3 pedicure stations and 2 manicure stations and some back room for people doing eyebrows I think), and a bathroom (didn’t go in, so can’t comment on it).
I’m NEVER going back! AND I feel SO bad for bringing my friend there for her FIRST manicure!

It was my second time to come here and both of my experiences were great.
The price was reasonable and the staffs were friendly.
They can be very busy so better to call for appointment.

My mani/​pedi experience level: I go about 2 weeks out of the year without any polish on my hand/​feet. I do not condone sporting chipped nails
New Age Salon is a small place that provides the most meticulous paint job at this price point ($ 29 mani/​pedi). I’m almost sure they triple check cuticles before putting on the polish and do a super pro paint job. Sometimes people ask me if my nails are real, it’s that perfectly painted.
Gel nails are also great here. Right before they start applying the paint they make sure you don’t touch anything so no little piece of dust can ruin the smooth paint job. I never get any of those little bubbles I’ve gotten at other salons.
Lastly, best French tips ever. You’ll be amazed it was done by a human.

The staff really takes care of their customers and visit them often, they will remember you! I have been coming here for years when I need some grooming and whenever I’m in this neighborhood!
They offer the norm of a nail salon and they also offer waxing. There is a good amount of color selections to choose from and they do the gel polish well here. If something doesn’t look right for the finishing touch to your nails or waxing, they will be more than happy to correct it for you. Of course, make sure for the waxing, you tell them what you want before the potential damage has been done! They will listen!
There is a pleasant, quiet ambiance to this place that I enjoy a lot about. It is discrete and soothing. It is a time well spent here for grooming while being able to relax.
