Mystic Hotel

We really enjoyed our stay. We live in San Francisco but had a night away from the baby. It reminded us of the hotel we stayed in Paris. Yes it’s small. But the rooms were clean, modern and the bed very comfy. The staff was diverse, friendly and quick to respond to help when needed. The breakfast was excellent: bacon and quiche along with the other continental type breakfast foods. Yum. Great price. Quirky art on the walls. Excellent booze option in the room! We really enjoyed a delicious bottle of wine. We would absolutely stay here again.

Stayed here a few nights ago after having our wedding reception in the restaurant connected with this hotel. It was so easy. After everyone having many drinks and being able to walk right up the stairs to our room was great! Very reasonable price and adorable rooms. I loved the brick walls and the old elevator! The jazz music Playing on the second floor from the restaurant was also a plus! Complementary breakfast in the morning was outstanding. Fresh fruit coffee juice chocolate croissants eggs… yum! This will definitely be our new spot to stay! Can’t wait to come back and make more memories!

Great location by Union Square. Customer service was okay. I absolutely loved the suite with the exposed brick and walk in shower. So why only three stars? The room that I stayed in was incredibly noisy. Between everyone honking their horns, the drunks fighting at 3am, and the crazy homeless people yelling at thin air it was very hard to get a good nights rest. I actually had to leave the tv on overnight at a considerable volume to assist in drowning out whatever was going on outside. Also, the elevator in the building is so slow. I understand that its vintage and one of a few of its kind left in the city, but its very slow and very small.

Omg where do I begin if u could give these people negative stars I would. First of all the staff are so rude and not to mention snobby and snotty. Also if u try to book your room on any (Hotwire, Expedia etc) they will still charge u a 150 $ fee on top of that a 34 $ fee for parking (which is understandable) but dont even bother to pay cash because then it’ll be 300 $. Overall this hotel is a joke and fuck the staff.

This place was adorable! We decided to go to San Francisco for Christmas and booked the Mystic through Expedia. We weren’t sure what to expect since the price we paid seemed odd for the location of the hotel, but we plowed ahead anyways, prepared for either a unique, well-​priced hotel, or a sketch back-​alley bargain motel. Gotta keep life interesting right?
First off, the best part of this hotel: it’s TWO BLOCKS from Union Square AND right across the street from a safe, creepy-​people free parking garage. We parked the car, froggered across to the hotel, and checked in within five minutes. We walked up to our room, which was admittedly tiny, but let’s be real, are you on vacation to sit in a gigantic, expensive hotel room, or are you on vacation to experience the city/​town/​country you’re visiting? And, even though it was tiny, it had some dang style people! It was well decorated, our window actually opened without a screen and had a decent breeze, the shower was large, and the bed was comfortable. Wins across the board, and with paying only about $ 100 for the night? Sign me up any time.
Finally, they include a continental breakfast with the price (you had me at free food). And we’re talking a good breakfast– oatmeal, cereal, pastries, eggs, fruit, starbucks coffee, yogurt, orange juice, bagels, and more things I’m probably forgetting. What a way to start the day.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a conveniently located, safe, clean, and reasonably priced place to stay in an amazing city.
**However, they do have these super creepy kid-​themed Shining-​esque artwork plastered all over the hallway. Avert your eyes, it’s for the best.

Fantastic service!
When I checked in, they told me that the room could be a bit noisy, due to it being located right above the restaurant. They told me to let them know if I wanted to change rooms. After one night, I did indeed ask to change, and since they didn’t have any similar rooms available, they upgraded to a suite. Which is awesome.
Plus side: Service, location, staff, restaurant/​breakfast.
Minus side: Super slow elevator (but I hear walking to the 6^th floor is good for ones butt).

Closer to 3.5 stars, but rounded up due to the overall experience.
Pretty good location if you’re visiting San Fran — relatively close to everything and easy to get around. Bad location only cus there are tons of homeless people around Union Square who are always stopping you/​begging/​following you… gets a bit annoying.
Hotel is super cute and very very friendly and helpful staff. Tiny rooms, but they were nicely decorated and did the job. Great breakfast (considering it is continental) — they had sausage/​bacon/​eggs/​quiche/​breads/​granola/​cream cheese… etc. yummy!
The cons:
–bathroom door is sliding frosted glass — limits privacy — especially when the rooms are so small… your roommate will be two feet from you when you are in there with a frosted, non-​soundproof door… awkkwarddd :/​
–energy efficient toilets means use only one square of toilet paper. or the toilet will clog. and even with one square it will still clog. daily.
–shower doesn’t get hot. only luke-​warm.
–elevator tiny and smelly and takes forever and breaks down often. get a lower floor if you aren’t great with stairs.
–no screens in windows, but you need to keep them open or your room will be smelly and hot. expect bugs in the room and nosey pigeons on the windowsills: o
–they forgot to clean our room two days in a row. they were nice enough about it when we called to ask wha happen but still… and the days the cleaning lady came, no customary knock before entering the room… good thing i was changing –_​_​_​-​”‘
Cost two of us $ 1600 CDN for 6 nights… pretty decent for San Fran

This is an absolute gem in Union Square. This was my third stay. We’re local. Hotel feels more mature service wise than in previous stays. Rooms are small but feel new and fresh. Beds are very comfortable. Sheets are much higher quality than the nearby chain hotels and were silky smooth. My wife thought they were hand-​ironed.
The Burritt Tavern is an anomaly in Union Square: Free Live Music! Brings nicely dressed non-​hotel guests to the property which makes it feel more warm. The whole property feels historic yet is modern in design.
Delicious breakfast which is great because there aren’t a lot of interesting breakfast places in the area.
Had a small glitch during check in but the manager, Tiffany took care of it immediately and followed up with us as we were passing through the lobby the next day. Very professional.
Most of the other staff we encounter seem genuine compared to the burned out «union attitude» workers you get at the Hilton, Hyatt, etc in Union Square.
You’ll feel local staying here. Enjoy!

A lot has changed in 5 years as we were here when it was called Crescent Hotel. From looking at pictures, not a lot has changed. I was being nostalgic as this hotel and the staff was extremely kind to us in a very difficult time. Tristan was at the front desk here and I hope that he has been promoted within or found a better opportunity because he was truly exceptional. This hotel was boutique-​y and absolutely lovely. It had so many unique features that you wouldn’t find from the big commercialized hotels. The Little Couple also stayed at a Crescent in the LA part of the state. Either way, I just wanted to say this hotel was so quaint and such a cool place to stay. We would definitely look for it again not only because of our great experience but also because the location was amazing!

Very comfortable bed, large tv, huge shower, spacious room, white blackout curtains, and free breakfast are all the pluses! The elevator didn’t work at times and the rooms dont have air just ceiling fans. Overall I enjoyed my stay but I’d only recommend staying during the winter season.

I went to the Mystic Hotel’s Burritt room for a press event. There wasn’t a lot of room to move around, with lots of nooks and crannies separating each section. However, the mood was great and the furniture was swank.
Would hang out in/​10.

The staff was very accommodating and welcoming. We mysteriously got upgraded to a suite :)
The rooms are newly renovated and yet still have their historic charm.
They have free breakfast for their guests and can hook you up with a ride to the airport.
The only downside is that the rooms do not have AC but they can (and will) provide additional standing fans.

Just from the name alone, it seems like a psychic or palm reader resides within.
Hate to burst your bubble, but nothing of the sort was present when I arrived.
Such. false. advertisement.
Nonetheless, there is one mystical aspect to this quiet and small hotel.
On the second level, it houses one of the nicest lounges I’ve ever been to. Warm and swanky, this place is perfect for date night or even a birthday celebration.
Chef owned, featuring modern hotel rooms with an upscale tavern, a live band, and original architecture makes it more than just mystical. It’s fantastical.
If you’re looking for an affordable place to stay close to Union Square, this will be up your alley. Currently starting at $ 199 per night, it is competitive for the area and quality. Most people enjoy the spacious rooms.
Psychic or not, I’ll try my fortune at this place any day.

I haven’t stayed at the hotel but the Burritt Bar upstairs is one of my favorites in SF. It’s a dark, lounge like atmosphere with glass chandeliers, comfortable couches and chairs, and tables. The service is fantastic and their craft cocktails superb! My favorite is the Mass Appeal. I’ve also ordered an Old Cuban, which very few bartenders know how to make. But they looked it up and it was great!
My only complaint is I only ever went there with a guy I was dating and on our last visit he told me his wife, whom he had been separated from for several months and lived out of state, had moved back in 10 days earlier. But that’s not the Mystic’s fault and I’ll definitely go back.

Not a bad choice, if you can tolerate a few relatively minor annoyances. Location is decent, in a somewhat seedy neighborhood a couple of blocks up from Union Square. Prices are lower than nearby competition, but nothing is «cheap» in downtown SF. Rooms are small, bathrooms are tiny with no place to put your stuff, but adequate. Third or fourth floor rooms are best choices — lower floors are subject to street and party noise, higher floors are at the mercy of a single small slow converted cage elevator.
Included breakfast is a nice touch, but exactly the same every morning (scrambled eggs, sausage, veggy quiches), with the same oldies tape loop running over and over. Would it be so difficult to switch to bacon or omelets every couple of days? The much-​touted restaurant, Burritt Tavern, is basically a tavern, with a limited, uninspired menu — not at all what you would expect from a Charlie Palmer creation, but it seems to be the trend. I do understand that alcohol generates most of the profit for those businesses.
One other suggestion: pots of coffee and hot water in the lobby for early risers would be most welcome. WiFi is free, but spotty (as is often the case in vintage hotels). No parking (of course, this is SF) but there is a pay garage across the street, a significant saving over the standard hotel valet ripoff.

loved staying in this boutique hotel.
prices for hotels are a very relative thing depending on your source and timing. we took advantage of a hotel tonight (phone app) deal 7 days prior to our stay and got a great price for this charming and modern hotel within union square on a saturday night.
best things about this place:
rooms are beautifully decorated with many sporting exposed brick. our room was on the top floor in the corner across from the elevator… 802 i believe. on the floorplan it appears to be on the smaller end of the rooms and i thought i was HUGE.
bed was sooo comfortable. that is my #1 requirement for satisfaction at a hotel.
bathroom was huge. shower was huge. all very modern and chic. complimentary bee toiletries were very nice.
complimentary breakfast! massive and satisfying breakfast… when i hear «continental breakfast» i think, muffin and OJ. this spread had assortment of fruit, yogurt, scrambled eggs, sausage, sliced baguette, bagels, mini croissants, danishes, quiches, starbucks coffee, tea… and maybe im forgetting things because it was quite impressive and expansive.
conveniently located near BART stations and bus stops. visitor’s paradise.
hotel restaurant with live music. we went to check it out, seemed cool but the jazz band was trying to be a rock band and was ear piercing so we didnt stay long. the hotel will give you 20% of vouchers for food and drink, which is cool, but we never hit that up.
few complaints: 1. and no control of the hotel, was that the area it is in is doing some major construction. it was quite loud and ongoing late into the evening. 2. the front desk messed up our final charge and was quite unprofessional reversing it with needed persistence on our end, but it eventually worked out.

I love this hotel. It’s cosy, chic and modern. It has a great crowd. Live jazz in the bar most days and a nice restaurant. Complimentary wifi and breakfast. The delux room has a lot of space (except the small wardrobe), is modern and makes me happy.

Pros: Cute, trendy, and great location. FREE WIFI and breakfast. Nice perks for the otherwise pricey surcharges found in the city.
Cons: a little noisy with our room being next to the elevator and street construction.
We got a last minute room here and settled for the junior room. It’s small. Really small. And we have a view of Pipes outside our window. But we left within an hour of check-​in and returned after 2am. Slept in the comfortable double bed, and off we went for our next adventure. The room was absolutely clean & comfortable and perfect for a short stay.

PROS:
— Location, location, location. Close (walkable) to many SF landmarks.
— Cozy
— Free wifi
— Amazing rates
CONS:
— Smaller rooms
— About half the rooms face outward to a brick wall
— Ammenties are a bit dated, but they play it off nicely with a ‘classic’ feel
PROTIP: Discount 24 hour parking @ 450 Sutter. ~$ 35 per 24 hours with unlimited ins and outs.

When I first arrived at the Mystic, I was optimistic that I’d found a boutique I could frequent and recommend to others in the future. The doorman and front desk clerk were friendly, the location a block off of Union Square perfectly located between shopping, Chinatown and Nob Hill. But little did I know that the also too-​good-​to-​be-​true certificate they gave me for $ 25 at their in-​house bar/​restaurant was a sign of bad things to come.
The room I checked into was small, clean and otherwise unremarkable. When leaving the hotel later that afternoon, I was again reminded to check out the restaurant/​bar. Seeing as I already had dinner plans, I mentally declined. When I returned around 10 pm, a stream of randoms were heading up and down the stairs to this much touted destination. Peaking in, it was definitely a club atmosphere, loud and rowdy. I was tired though, so I headed off to bed hoping that whatever was happening there wouldn’t interfere with my expensive one-​night hotel stay.
I was wrong.
It is now 11:45 pm. The noises continue. Laughter, footsteps, music, doors opening and slamming, people storming up and down the stairs. A steady rhythmic beat emanates through the walls and seemingly from inside my pillow. The club sounds aren’t the only disturbances. The sound of rolling carts, creaking floors, people waiting for the elevator. It’s as if my bed were in the hallway. If I had any energy at all right now I’d switch rooms if that were possible.
It is now 7 am. My sleep was restless thanks to the aforementioned disturbances. The gift certificate to their club stares at me from the nightstand, a reminder of what they are really pushing here. It is now painfully clear in my sleep deprived head that guest comfort isn’t first priority.
Some other negatives (pointed out by previous guests as well):

— innoperable outlet in bathroom
— the view from my window was the inner corridor of a brick building with ledges strewn with trash.
Summary:
I do not know nor care who Charlie Palmer is, but he should think twice about lending his name to a hotel of this standard. At $ 245 (online DISCOUNT price), I expect — at bare minimum — a decent, quiet nights rest.
