Specialties
We are the authorized dealership for Ducati, Triumph, MV Agusta, Moto Guzzi, Norton and Husqvarna motorcycles, and the oldest motorcycle shop in San Francisco.
We focus on providing excellent service and maintenance for our brands.
We offer a deep selection of relevant factory parts, clothing and accessories — everything from helmets, jackets, gloves, boots, oil, filters and chemicals, spark plugs, luggage, bike stands, locks, mugs, magazines, t-shirts, caps, models… to everything in between.
We also sell used bikes, and offer a successful consignment program.
Munroe Motors has long specialized in racing — with local racer Tom Montaño, in 2001 we won the AMA Pro-Thunder national Road Racing championship, and in 2005 we were the fastest American team ever at the Isle of Man. In 2012 we also set two motorcycle World Land Speed Records with Andy Sills riding our Ducati Panigale 1199S.
History
Established in 1958.
Jim Munroe started Munroe Motors as a used motorcycle shop in 1958. Munroe Motors was then appointed as the authorized Triumph dealership for San Francisco in 1960. In subsequent years, Jim added other brands such as Moto Guzzi, Norton and Ducati. Jim was joined at Munroe Motors by his brother Pat in 1969, with Pat working as the General Manager and Salesman. Nick Hayman and Matt Prentiss started working for Munroe Motors as mechanics in 1985 and 1990 respectively. In 1998, Jim decided he was ready to retire, and Nick and Matt borrowed money from a few key sources and bought the Munroe Motors business. In 2001 Jim sold the 412 Valencia Street building to Nick and Matt, who continue to run the business at the same Valencia St location where it’s been since about 1962.
Meet the Business Owner
Nick H.
Business Owner
Nick grew up in London, England and received a science-oriented education. Nick initially worked as a Software Systems Adviser for Honeywell Information Systems, and after about 5 years Nick decided to quit computers and change careers to work on the one thing in his life that he loved — his Ducati 900. He emigrated to San Francisco and applied for work at Munroe Motors as a trainee parts guy, and started work in September 1985. He became head mechanic/service manager in 1990, and bought the business in 1998 with fellow mechanic Matt Prentiss.
