Mudpuppy’s Tub & Scrub

My dog has enormous anxiety when getting his nails clipped, and even though there are other groomers closer to our home, we’ve found that Mudpuppy’s is the best place to go for our anxious, occasionally nippy bulldog. He has been coming here for baths and nail clippings ever since he was a wee puppy.
The staff is incredibly friendly, and it’s very obvious how much they love dogs. They approach the nail cutting with calmness and competency, and I think it makes all the difference in my dog’s fear level.
Their prices are very fair, especially when you consider the high quality service you are getting. I always know my dog is in good hands when he comes to Mudpuppy’s. It’s also super convenient that they are open 7 days a week, and they’ve even started a Pick-​up/​Drop-​off service that I’m very very excited about using. That being said, it’s always fun to go in to the store and see all the cute doggies! Maya, the store Frenchie, is a doll!

I just have to reiterate how much I love this place. I’ve never had any trouble with booking an appointment or service with my shiba, Jedi. But the BEST part of this place is that my notoriously difficult-​to-​groom-​or-​handle shiba is surprisingly so easy here. I don’t know what it is — maybe it’s the way these guys know how to handle my little shiba — but I’ve taken my dog here a couple times and it was SUCH a breeze.
For reference, for those of you who don’t have shibas, they can be quite a noisy disaster when being touched, groomed, or bathed. Think of hearing the shrillest of screams and ears bleeding type of situation. My little guy’s nails were getting out of control and so I knew he needed a trim. I’ve taken him to the Marina location a few times, but he just didn’t seem to like it there. Screaming, anxiety, etc. But then I remembered the very first time I took Jedi to this location about a year ago. He took the flea bath so well that I had to try this place again.
I called and Chris was able to take Jedi in right at the moment — he even remembered my dog’s name on the phone! Jedi was in and out in about 10 minutes with NO SCREAMING whatsoever. Chris and another worker even mentioned how amazingly well Jedi was taking the nail clipping. I was so impressed and happy… I knew I needed to update my review.
For those of you looking for a place that handles difficult pets (for whatever reason), I HIGHLY suggest coming here … and if possible, having Chris handle or help handle the service. My pup behaves so well and seems to be as calm as I’ve EVER seen him in his hands when it comes to groomers. Thank you so much, Chris. You’re a lifesaver!

I love this place! They are great with all my nervous foster dogs, and they offer well-​priced baths, grooming, and nail trims. The de-​shed grooming is especially awesome for keeping fur out of house.

Really??? (Please refer to pictures). I came in today and asked for a light trim… This is what they did to my poor puppy. Will never come back.

I’ve been looking for a place in the city who does hand stripping for my Border Terrier and it’s nearly impossible as it’s more complicated than a regular groom — and the people who can do it are extremely snobby/​rude about it.
I called Mudpuppy’s and spoke with Chris who let me come in and get an estimate for my pup and meet the groomer, Dede. It didn’t take long for me to feel comfortable and the next morning I brought her in. Immediately, the groomer picked her up, gave her snuggles and kisses, and sent me on my way. A few hours later I came back to my beautifully groomed girl!
So happy to have found this place, they are truly a gem!

I booked an appointment a week prior for a full service grooming for ¹²⁄₁₈ at 11:45 am hoping to get my dog out within an hour since the booking page said he would be done around 12:45 pm. I dropped him off 30 minutes early and there was only one other dog in there and Chris said to come back in two hours.
I come back a little after 1 pm hopefully to pick him up. Turns out they hadn’t even finished brushing out my dog yet, but there were three other dogs in the window and two other dogs being serviced. I was confused, what was the point of making an appointment if my dog was barely started by the time I was suppose to pick him up? Chris understands my concern of time since I needed to be somewhere by 3 pm that day, so he said the grooming would be done by 2 pm. I come back around 2pm and Suzanne finally calls me in at 2:30 pm.
My dog’s haircut looked great and he smelled wonderful! Suzanne was very accommodating to what I had ask for in terms of the cut. Suzanne told me my dog got a bit fidgety during the shaving and had some razor burn under his front arms, which was understandable since my dog gets anxious in new environments.
Apparently, in the three hours my dog was there, they didn’t get around to the ear cleaning/​plucking or to his nails. Chris called me about an hour after I left to notify me they didn’t get to the nails and would take note on doing them next time, which was fine since I had my dog’s nails done a within the month at Mudpuppy’s anyways.
When I got home, I noticed my dog kept repeatedly licking his tummy area and whining, which was strangely out of character. When I held him up and checked, he had a HUGE CUT on his tummy, along with other little razor nicks alongside his tummy and inner thigh, which was completely shaved to the skin. Suzanne had told me he would have some razor burn under his front arms, but she DID NOT tell me about the huge cut that went across his entire tummy nor did she tell me about the multiple nicks and cuts on his back legs and abdomen.
I understand accidents happen and rashes do occasionally happen with close cuts, but what my dog had was a straight deep scratch that spanned across his tummy and I know that isn’t normal.

Mudpuppies is MODERN and CONVENIENT. I actually feel irritated that other businesses are not MORE like Mudpuppy’s.
LIST OF COOL STUFF MUDPUPPY’S HAS SO GRACIOUSLY THOUGHT TO DO:
1) They allow you to book online.
2) They text and email communications.
3) They keep my payment information so I don’t have to repeatedly give it to them.
4) They have pickup and delivery service. I didn’t even leave my home to get my pups groomed!!!

Could you please help out other businesses by giving them the memo that people like all of those things???
Oh, and BTW, my pups were pristine and gorgeous when they were brought to my door after their grooming session! I know that’s important, but I have found that other places. ;)

We had a great experience here on Saturday (and a previous time as well). Specifically this time though our dog has some health issues and we really appreciated the time the staff took to really listen and pay attention to our concerns. His haircut came out great (he’s so soft!) and the staff really cared about his well-​being and were so nice to him, which was much appreciated. Thanks!

It was my pup’s first time here as we recently moved to the city. He’s an anxious little guy but DiAndre did a great job! We’re happy to have a great new groomer in the neighborhood

Awesome job, just a basic wash as it was a first ever bath for Max. Staff really good and caring for us during this traumatic experience for dog and owner! Took great care of him and he now feels great. I am sure he will get used to this as it will be a regular thing! Definitely be back! Disability friendly, with flat floors and lots of room to move, for access to their great service and reasonable prices.
My dog hates having his nails trimmed. Groomers and vet offices have given up after trying. At home I can only clip one or two at a time before he becomes upset.
Brought my dog to Mudpuppy’s and I could not believe my eyes. They trimmed all his nails, quickly, and he was not the least upset! He was happy! And so am I. I expect to be a long-​term customer.

Chris is an excellent nail trimmer. I was really surprised that he was able to get Teddy to let him cut his nails while standing on a table, nobody even had to hold him. I went back to have him trim them again the other day and this time he did have somebody hold him and Teddy was not as thrilled but he still does a good job and is really sweet. I think next time I will just ask him to try to do it without somebody holding him first and then if it doesn’t work to have somebody hold him as a second option.

Updating my review from 3 months ago. Today was time for another grooming session for my Goldendoodle — Cadet and we decided to give Mudpuppy SF another shot. We’ve been coming here regularly (every 2 weeks) for his baths because the staff has been amazing and very professional. Chris runs a great shop. The negative review last time was only for the cut.
I’m very happy to say today they did a fantastic job. I wrote detailed instructions for Didi and even provided pictures. He looked at them and said that he’ll deliver. Also, he said to keep the instructions with me. He promised I’ll be happy and he delivered.
I’m a fan again of their groomers.

Mudpuppy’s is great. They always do a great job washing our Golden and Aussie. For the past two years we’ve always been able to drop in without a reservation and get the pooches washed. The staff is friendly with the dogs and the people. This is what a locally owned neighborhood business should be.

Our pup gets his monthly wash here. They are so nice and so professional. They are quick too, our pup is in and out in 45mins.
Drop off in the mornings (esp on weekends) its less busy!

Really nice and caring folks. I love the availability of their calendar to schedule our dog washes. And, our little Schnauzer looked so very handsome after DeeDee (I think that’s his name) groomed him. They put cute little bow-​ties on their collars which is quite charming.

This place is great! Staff is friendly, very quick, and great job on my shitzu :) The turkey sausage treat was much appreciated by Boosh (my dog) and they even gave him some cute basketball bows for his harness. We will definitely be back!

I’m really upset and disappointed.
She came back with rashes and slight cuts on her tummy and 2 uncut nails.
The job seems neat enough but there was no creativity in it.
She went in looking the cutest furry puppy in the world, came out looking very uncharacteristic.
Yes, we did screw up her style by trying to trimming her a bit ourselves, but that was only in the back till her shoulders and we hadn’t touched her face or neck or cut it too short that didn’t leave any option.
They did the job well but not pretty.
I’ll have to find another place where they care about giving a pretty cut, not just trimming.
I’m mostly upset about her rashes but maybe they happen and will soon die out.
Please keep in mind that I’m a first time owner and my little puppy is only 6 months, so this was her first haircut. So, this is more emotional for me.
UPDATE: Chris (the manager) called and explained how the rashes happen to puppies sometimes and said he’ll help if they don’t go away soon naturally. He seemed really concerned and even refunded us, so that we give mudpuppy’s another chance! Also, he promised to make sure they listen more carefully next time. As what they gave our puppy is the «usual» doodle cut, it’s understandable they they thought we wanted it too. But I had clearly mentioned I didn’t want it too short.
Bottom Line: I’ll definitely give them another chance, as they went out of their way to make us feel better. But this time I’ll make sure my expectations are communicated better! Thanks, Chris!

I brought my two dogs here on a whim when their nails were becoming unruly and they refused to let me cut them. When I dropped them off, my shepherd kept on barking and I was so embarrassed — i thought they would ask me to take her out but they didn’t and they were able to do her bath and her nails as well as my pugs. When I returned to pick them up, they mentioned that she seemed anxious about separation and i explained that it’s just being in kennels that makes her anxious. They were super nice about it and even put a little flower on her collar.
I’ll come back as long as they will let us!
