John Davis has been terrific to work with. He is an honest man who does a great job on all of his projects. He came highly recommended and I can see why. He not only is ethical but he does top notch quality work. He will give you a couple of options on what work needs to be done and will also give you what he recommends. You will not find a better contractor that has the all around knowledge and experience to back it like he does. I am very pleased with all of the work he has done for me and all those that I have referred him to, and I will continue to use him and stand by his workmanship. He is extremely busy with work so be prepared to stand in line. That should speak for itself!

«Mr. Stairs» is «Dr. Frankenstein».
We paid a lot just for the plans to build our simple, straight, front door staircase. But Mr. Stairs decided not to follow the plans. We protested, but Mr. Stairs insisted that his way was better. When that became obviously not true, we instructed Mr. Stairs on what we thought he needed to do to fix it. Mr. Stairs agreed, then ignored us. On his own, he decided that more bolts and more screws, more glue and more nails could cover his basic construction errors.
I get a knot in my stomach every time I look at what he did to us. In reality, Mr. Stairs is Dr. Frankenstein. And like the monster he created, our stairs will not survive for long. If you do not believe me, we will sadly show you.
Mr. Stairs offered us a tiny discount. We paid him to get rid of him. Now he thinks we are even. We are so very far from even. Please learn from our mistake.

Don’t be fooled by the name. These guys are way more than stair contractors. They are fix-​whatever-​ails-​your-​poor-​building guys. We had a frighteningly large siding/​roofing project that involved not only the replacement of weathered siding but the undoing of some pretty shoddy workmanship by the contractor who built our building. John Davis, the contractor for our project, was a dream to work with. He’s incredibly courteous, and thoughtful, and dedicated, and ethical. We are very happy with the work.
The contractor-​client relation can be a vexed one in this city (SF), and there are a couple of things about the way John works that warrant mention:
First, John actually does the job himself and supervises the work of his assistants. He doesn’t give them a job to do and then leave the site. His presence at every stage of the project was invaluable.
Second, John takes the time to explain very clearly everything he’s doing, and lets you know if at any point he has to veer from the original job plan. There are no surprises with him, and he is incredibly fair in his billing.
I’ll probably be adding to this review over time, as I recall more aspects of John’s wonderful professionalism and expertise.
