We were lucky enough to call Modera liquor and wine our neighborhood convenience store for four years. The owners, John and Maria, obviously take a lot of pride in their business and everything is always clean, well stocked, and has a great selection. They are open early, close late, and are typically open on holidays. A great place to pick up a bottle of wine(they have a great selection), some snacks, or that last ingredient you forgot to include in your grocery shopping trip. John and Maria are such wonderful people. Even if we weren’t stopping in to purchase something, they would always make it a point to wave to us as we passed by. They even gave us a gift for our wedding! They really take the time to engage with their customers and would regularly ask me if there was a specific brand of product that I would like for their next shipment. I can’t say enough good things about this place and the owners!

I was going to go three stars and close the book. It’s a Geary Boulevard corner store. What else is there to know? Then the owner grabbed me by the shoulders, shook me firmly, and told me to snap out of it. I woke up, and I was lying on a pull-out bed in Larkspur. My hair was disheveled, one of the pillows was wedged beneath the door, and the alarm on my phone was playing a melody I had never heard before. I jumped up to shut up my phone, but when I tried to key in my code, it didn’t work. I repeated and repeated and repeated, very slowly, but it didn’t work. And then I realized that I didn’t need to enter my code to turn off the alarm, so I woke up, for really reals this time. Modera Liquor & Wine is great. The owner is great, and he’s only grabbed me by the shoulders in my dreams, which is a weird thought but which shouldn’t in any way reflect poorly on him. It’s really close to where I always park to use the San Francisco Federal Credit Union ATM, so I don’t know how I’ve gone eleven years without ever patronizing it. Maybe I wasn’t ready for all the fresh fruit or how wonderfully and magically clean the store is.

So many times I’ve come in here looking for something weird and the lady behind the counter asked me what I need. I tell her, and lo and behold she delivers. They have everything and they know where it is. Sometimes it’s in the back but they’ll Best convince store I’ve been to. They know so many of their customers by name it is a throwback to a romanticized America that I’ve never actually lived in. They know my brand of cigarettes, and probably the whole neighborhoods. This place is always clean. It looks more like a high end specialty store than a liquor store in the avenues. Just go to the other one down the block and compare the level of cleanliness. It’s a different world. Also, Maria call pull one hell of an espresso

The lady behind the counter is so nice! The guy in front of me checking out mentioned it was his birthday and the lady gave him a free mini bottle of jack! What a dear! I usually stop by this place because they have every flavor of KIND bars! The sweet lady threw in an extra for just 50 cents more. It does not take too much to treat customers right, but most places miss the mark. Not Modera! Nice folks!

Great selection of specialty beer! I mean where else are you going to go to get imported beers like«La Trappe» that was started by a Monastery in the Netherlands?! Especially one that’s open as late as they are. You can even make special requests if they don’t have what you’re looking for, and the owners will try their best to get it for you! Dope! They also have snacks for days, and a good selection of beverages to quench your thirst. A deli case with tamales that are BOMB, along with other delectable items. Definitely check them out if you’re in the area, and don’t be afraid to ask for things you don’t see because they might just have a stash in the back. yay!

This is my go-to snack and drink place. Reasonably priced, good selection, not one item is dusty or expired. The place is clean, inviting, and open when it matters most. The owners are incredibly kind — great people!

Overpriced. Horrid beer selection. Do not go here for beer as there are only a few bad to worse selections. The people who work here are nice, the store is clean and open late. I try not to go here because they don’t have anything I want. This is one of the most expensive convenience stores in San Francisco.

Close late & open early, there are rare times when«8th& Geary» isn’t available for my everyday munchy needs

I’m writing primarily about their wine selection. It really is quite impressive, and they carry plenty of Italian reds, which I absolutely love. I have yet to buy one that I didn’t like. As others have mentioned, the proprietors are very friendly and the market is open quite late. It’s a real Inner Richmond gem.

This place rules. The owners are so sweet, and remember us every time my husband or I go in. Good wine selection at very decent prices. They even have multiple kinds of bitters on the shelf if you need to stock up on Agnostura. Everything is always clean, fresh and well cared for. I could not be happier to have Modera as my local corner store.

These guys are very friendly. I went in a while ago not knowing much about wines but in need of some for a party. They were informative with their selection(they have a large selection, hence the store name). Their hours are very nice for those who are out late. Since then I moved farther away from this corner store but that doesn’t mean I won’t still go there.

Some might say the a corner liquor store is the same no matter where you are. I whole heartedly disagree. Some can be dirty. Some can have old stock. Some can be so packed that you can’t move around. And even others can be all three and more. But Modera defies them all. With great owners and staff, a clean, welcoming environment, and a range of beer, wine, sodas, snack and everyday staples, Modera is worth the walk. Whether it’s early or late, Modera’s got you covered.

Ok, this place changed hands a lot since 2005. I think it has been through at least 4 owners. The current owners, who have had the place for over a year, are awesome — they know us by name and are very friendly. The place is actually fully stocked and has everything you’ll need. They have a great selection of wine and champaign. Kevin(one of the owners) knows all of our friends well. He even will stock items at our request. Last November I moved from 7th Ave to 2nd Ave — but I will still travel the extra blocks to go to Modera. These guys kick ass the ass over the«other» corner stores.

Friendly neighborhood liquor store where you can hang out and chat. Kevin prides himself on the wine selection, with reasonable prices and advice on new arrivals. They have decent burritos & sandwiches, when you are short on time, and Kevin even brews a mean mocha.

Finally!!! This corner store seemed to have changed hands a number of times before Kevin and his family reopened this spot as Modera Market. He really turned this place around and has been a nice addition to the neighborhood. They make good coffee… and open super early in the morning. They have some nice looking deli items. a descent selection of convenience items. They carry Odwalla juices. Modera Market has an excellent beer selection for a corner store… They seem to have seasonal specials and classics as well as the usual cheap stuff. Beer is definitely corner store prices, but this place is open late… later than anything else in the area… so it makes it nice to be able to grab some quality beer, and or wine at late night hours.
