Great butcher shop for meat and fish. As others have said everything is fresh, presented clearly and priced fairly.
The staff behind the counter are knowledgeable and are happy to answer questions or provide recommendations.
I appreciate that there’s no attitude or snobbishness here, just great meat and fish at outstanding prices.

I have been going to China Town for my poultry and on occasion to a fish monger a couple of blocks from this location. I tried MMF&P this morning and while better than Safeway certainly, and more convenient to my home, I would still say that my 2 different places have better product overall.

Reminds me of the fish markets in HK. Fresh fish, great price.

Good cheap meat in SF? Here! They call their bacon «Fancy Bacon,» and it’s delicious. The lamb steaks are pretty good too. It’s a clean shop, and they have excellent customer service. Apparently others haven’t discovered this gem, and part of me wants to keep it my own secret.
Come in here for your meat needs. They have good meat, excellent prices, and good service. I finally found my butcher in SF!

It is very difficult to understand why even much more expensive meat markets in the City are not run to this same high standard. The meat is fresh and well presented in a clean, very organized case. The prices are an amazing value. The staff are perfectly friendly and knowledgeable.
In addition to all that good stuff, the thing that constantly impresses me is how perfectly trimmed the meat is; there is none of the «let’s package this stuff up so we can leave all this fat or skin or gristle on here and the customer won’t see it» kind of play you get at your mainstream markets; you can take what they give you and start cooking with it without further ado.
A great example of professionalism of the first order…

Excellent prices, clean, friendly and helpful butchers. He was very pleasant. I needed a bunch of sliced meat for beef jerky so I had them use the meat slicer to slice up some top round and they did it no problem.
They also have the nasty bits I like, like pig’s ears and cow’s tongue.

This place is so awesomeness it feels like im south of the border somewhere. It’s so colorful and full of life. There’s multiple veggie and meat stands and even a seamstress, flower shop, and beauty salon. I went here for mangonadas from Nieves cinco de mayo. I love Mangonadas!
I’m totally coming back next week to get some meat from the butcher shop. Hopefully my experience will be just as nice as the first time.

There only a few places in SF where you can buy good quality meats, fish and poultry. Place is very clean, Mary’s air chilled chicken can be found here! New owners who are keeping the standards high in service, quality and appearance! Local small business are becoming instinct. This is a gem well hidden! My pocket book likes them also, prices are good!

Sharing a secret to those who don’t know about Mission Market. Had a great intro to this place (thank you, Kim) and thought it warranted a Unilocal.
LOVE this place. LOVE the obscure location too — enter on Bartlett except Thursdays as the farmers market takes over that entrance.
Best fish market I’ve found in SF & very impressive meat selection where organic is the norm not the exception (like safeway and such).
Saying there’s ‘helpful service’ is an understatement — if you want a special order, ask and ye shall receive.
Abalone anyone?

Bob was awesome. We feed our pup raw meals (and really like fish ourselves), so we had several questions about the fish, poultry and meat at the market. He answered all our questions in-​depth about all the various types of meats he carries.
They have a ton of local stuff and anything that is not local is on the «good list» and from Canada or the US.
Not to mention his prices are fantastic.

A stop in my Mission Grocery Guide:
Bob is my go-​to fish and poultry guy, and he has a great selection of fresh and eclectic fish. I’ve checked Sun Fat Seafoodand the Mission Meat/​Seafood Market nearby and they don’t quite have the selection of seafood that Bob has. Skate? Shark? Black Cod? Bob’s got it here when the others don’t! He goes to the docks each morning to get the best selection.
While the fish is very fresh and-​well priced, you can’t ignore that you can get organic chicken (petaluma or fulton farms) for the price that you get regular battery chickens everywhere else. Seriously a steal. Chicken never tasted so good!
What’s great is that you can buy a whole chicken and have him break it down for you if you don’t wanna roast a whole bird in one night. I tend to do this and use the carcass for stock and keep the meat for meals!

Totally loving this meat market! Excellent prices and good meat. Everyone knows how important good meat is … right?! The gents here are great. Don’t see the cut you want? They will cut it for you. Special orders are no problem. I mentioned I thought the pork chops were cut thin. Mr. Friendly Butcher whipped out a side o’pork and cut me nice thick ones on the spot. It was awesome carnage.
The chicken, beef an pork here are all awesome. Can’t say the same for the seafood section. There’s a specialty seafood place down the street that’s better so only 4 stars.

So, in the 3 years I’ve lived here, I’ve mostly been a Fresh Meat Market loyalist. They’re 1 block closer to my house and I used to get excellent, friendly service there. But, service has taken a turn for the worse, and THEN the kicker was that I got a cat and wanted to feed him a raw diet. Which means I needed a good source of affordable organ meats ‘n’ such.
So I switched to Mission Market, and in the last month I’ve completely changed allegiance. Here’s why:
–They are SO CLEAN. Spotless.
–They sell Petaluma Farms’ organic chicken for the same price as factory farmed chicken elsewhere.
–Thir fish selection is rather small, but only because they only sell the BEST.
–The staff there are so friendly and helpful. They always ask me how my day has been and wish me a good one.
–Their poultry selection is fresh and awesome. Chicken, turkey, duck, Cornish game hems, quail, even goose sometimes. And lots of different cuts. They sell pretty much every part of the animal too.
–Their prices are great. And if something you came there to get is out of your budget, they will gladly suggest alternatives that are more in your price range.
This week I was just shopping for my cat. I got him 15-​ish days of food, specifically 2 lbs. of chicken necks, 2 lbs. of chicken hearts, and ½lb each of chicken livers and gizzards. For $ 7.50. THERE WERE SO MANY DEAD CHICKENS IN MY SHOPPING BAG. And it was awesome.

We live (well, I do) in San Francisco, so finding high quality food isn’t that hard. We have a dizzying array of markets and specialty stores, to the extent that one might never leave the city’s limits and still eat like royalty every day, assuming one can cook.
When I discovered that my refrigerator freezer could get down to 0 degrees Fahrenheit, I was tickled, as this is that magic number where food will keep «indefinitely», and I could keep food in bulk in the freezer. I have a whole geeky system worked out where I use colorful laminated gift bags to sort my frozen meats, and it makes planning and cooking meals much, much easier.
When my yellow (poultry) and blue (seafood) bags get low on supplies, I make a dash to Mission Market Fish & Poultry for a restocking. It is clean, airy, and the food is fresh, sustainable, and excellent quality. Bob, who has worked there for decades, is very friendly and knowledgeable.
The quality of the food, especially for the prices, is outstanding, but as I’ve said many times before, service is key, and it’s the service that earns this place all 5 of my stars. Bob will cheerfully individually wrap my orders of salmon steaks or chicken breasts, making the preparation of meals for 1, 2, or 6 people a very straight forward process.
One small caution to newcomers. If you come in from the Mission Street entrance, keep walking towards the back, as it’s a bit tucked away in the back of a mall that feels a little like a ride at Epcot Center.

Been going here for years, I’m surprised I forgot to write a review.
They offer super fresh chicken & fish at surprisingly modest prices. It feels so good to eat well/​healthy and not spend a whole paycheck in the process. :)
My only thing is that I wish they were opened Sundays since that’s my errand running day.

I just read a book about eating sustainable seafood and was not looking forward to going back to the fishmongers. Although I was now armed with the Monterey Bay Aquarium fish guide I knew I would have to ask a lot of questions and I wasn’t sure if a) they would appreciate this 3^rd degree and what if b) they didn’t know and I would have to resort to Whole Foods for fish?
But you know what, these guys really know what’s going on. They were happy to answer all my questions and were super patient. No attitude at all. Plus they know their stuff and will tell you where they get their fish as well as how it was caught. And if they don’t know, they’ll tell you. Great guys.

I wrote a bad review for Mission Market describing live turtles and I am very sorry b/​c I HAD THE WRONG PLACE…

Very interesting place. Its deep inside this kinda eerie little shopping mall with all types of good shops (produce, taquerias, flowers, candy, etc.) The meat and seafood counter is an absolute pleasure to shop at. I expected a large bill after buying a few different kinds of meats and some shrimp, but was pleasantly surprised at the very reasonable price.
Kinda makes me feel like an idiot going to a restaurant and paying so effin much just for one meal that I can probably make myself with all the available fresh food in this city for a tenth of the price. But anyway, I look forward to frequenting this place and Sun Fat Seafood right down the road regularly to make sure I’m spoiled as a teenage pop star.

This maze-​like little mall is as close as you come to Tijuana without leaving San Francisco. Full of independent Mexican, Salvadoran and Vietnamese restaurants, veggie and meat markets, a beauty salon, a flower shop, organized around an indoor courtyard with painted tile floors and walls and ceilings painted everywhere with quirky murals, street scenes, oceans, fields, decorative lights, starscapes. It’s noisy, kids are running around, crooner and mariachi versions of popular pop songs spill out of the little stores.
Good times, good times.

First of all, the mission market in general is a neat find in SF. I’ve been to many mercado-​style places like this in LA, and in San Antonio, but didn’t expect to find one here.
The meat/​fish/​poultry counter in the back of the market has an excellent selection, and is not aimed at attracting yuppies, so the prices and service are nice and unpretentious. I recommend combining a trip here with lunch at El Perol, a little Peruvian place just next to it.
