They did not accept my insurance, but found the person who answered my phone very friendly and informative.

I grew up hating dentists because our childhood one was so mean, and basically would berate us for not flossing enough, when we flinched while getting teeth cleaned, he just told us that was the pain we had to suffer bc we didn’t brush enough. Too much negative associations– to a point that I didn’t even go for regular cleanings.
Had a tooth ache one day and had no choice and got a referral from a friend.
Man, what a difference. From the get go I was apologizing for my teeth and he said, look, we don’t judge or lecture. We just give you the tools and tips to maintain good tooth health and if things go bad, we’ll do our best to fix it, it’s our job.
He and his team are top notch. I ended up needing a root canal and referred me to the nicest and best endodontist ever (Dr. Ravi Koka), but in the meantime, made sure the pain was under management and called to check up on me. Even during the cleanings, asked if my gums hurt too much, etc.
I actually look forward to going to the dentist now (and not bc I have perfect teeth, but I know they will help me take good care of them). I don’t know if all dentists are this way (and my point of reference is the dentist from hell), but highly recommend this office.

From Monica, the office manager, and her exuburant helpfulness and perky demeanor to the warm, friendly professionalism of Dr. Perona, I couldn’t be happier with my choice. I had high expectations after reading the other Unilocal reviews and I was most certainly NOT disappointed.
The chair was so comfortable, and everyone was pleasant and lovely, as was the view out the window into the green tree-​lined courtyard. The music was soft and chill and I found myself pleasantly relaxed after my checkup and cleaning.

As a newcomer to the city, the last thing you want to do is find new Doctors. UGH. So I used Unilocal to find a Dentist close to my office with good reviews. I called Dr. Perona’s office and he picked up the phone directly. Within 3 minutes, we knew multiple people in common and he instantly put me at ease. His offices are bright and airy with the newest technology for XRays (so cool!). And do not leave without getting one of the new Sonicare toothbrushes. Battery lasts 3 weeks and my teeth are whiter already. Thank you, Dr. Perona and team!

Had my first appointment with Dr. Perona this afternoon. Everything I could ask for in a new dentist after receiving dental treatment from my father for the first 30 years of my life: informative, gentle hands, and incredibly friendly. I’m looking forward to my future appointments and treatment. ⁵⁄₅. Would recommend to anyone else looking for a new dentist.

Dr. Perona and his staff are super effective at keeping my nervousness OUT of the equation when it comes to getting my fillings, crowns, and cosmetic dentistry completed in a timely and efficient manner. I get really uptight when I go to the Dr or DDS but they are excellent at telling me what’s happening, how much longer and checking in with me on pain and if I’m doing ok.
I have a standing cleaning appointment every 3 months and they are very careful to tell me all of the news that relates to keeping my mouth healthy.
It’s an easy office to walk to from the Embarcadero Bart Station if you exit towards Spear Street it’s just 2 blocks away.
They call to remind you of your services, and they keep excellent records so you don’t have to.

I have received consistently excellent recommendations and dental care from Dr. Perona and his staff. For those working in downtown SF, the location of the office is superb. Highly recommended.

I wanted to update my review of Dr Perona because I am so thrilled with my new look. I just went through a year of Invisalign braces and had a bridge replaced. My new teeth are just fabulous. Dr Perona is certainly the best experience I have ever had with a dentist. He is considerate, gentle, explains everything and super meticulous with his work. His staff is just the same. I used to hate to go to the dentist, but not since seeing Dr Perona and his staff!

I have been seeing Dr. Perona for a few years and I honestly enjoy going to the dentist. Monica, Yolanda and Dr. Perona always welcome me warmly and make me feel right at home. I never have trouble getting an appointment and the experience is positive and consistent from booking through walking out.
I recently finished a year of Invisalign, so I was in the office at least once every 6 weeks. Not only was that attention and service pleasant, but my teeth look absolutely amazing and have truly transformed.
I don’t think I would ever go to another dentist or recommend anyone else. Dr. Perona and his team are truly the best!

I recently switched to Dr. Perona from another dentist in SF. I am very happy with my change. Dr. Perona’s office staff was very welcoming and they took me on time. His office is very modern and clean and I felt like I was a VIP on my first visit. I also got a great goodie bag of a toothbrush and floss when I left. He also has the best tea in his waiting room, so that made me happy too. I look forward to my next appointment and hopefully I won’t have any cavities!

I came to Dr. Perona for a second opinion after another dentist incorrectly diagnosed and treated me. They took great care of me, were super friendly and were cheaper than the crook dentist I saw before. Dr. Perona and his staff are stellar!

TWELVE YEARS. That’s how long I’ve been coming here. I cannot believe I didn’t think to write a review before now. Shame on me. First, there is Monica, the funny, bright, caring first point of contact. Kindness is her middle name. If she had been on the Titanic, she would have MELTED that ice. Then there is the wonderful Moira, the most amazing, thorough, competent hygienist you could wish to have working on your mouth. She is AWESOME.
Dr. Michael Perona is stellar. Five stars is not enough. I came to him after 45 years of dentistry English-​style, and he pulled off a miraculous salvation. ALL the staff here are amazing — competent, kind, knowledgeable and very, very personable.
I owe you all.
Oh, and my dog, Gracie, LOVES coming here, too.
I could write a TOME about this place … about the time I brought my elderly aunt here, who was on a trip from England. Her dentures were chafing her gums. Dr. Perona fitted her in at a minute’s notice, smoothed the edges of her denture. And refused to take payment. Where do you get that these days?

Like most, I have a dentist-​phobia. The thought of another person with SHARP and POINTY tools digging in my mouth just freaks me out. I’ve avoided the dentist for the past 5 years (I know…) but made a promise myself that I would get back on it. After such sparkling reviews, I went to go check out Dr. Perona, and I’m back from my first visit. It was a pleasant surprise!
First, he was extremely friendly, warm and welcoming. He understood my reservations about coming into the dentist, and during my checkup he periodically would ask how I was doing. Plus, he didn’t do that annoying-​dentist thing when they ask you questions whilst they probe around in your mouth, and then you feel like you have to awkwardly mumble something back with your mouth is stretched to capacity.
Oh and side note, I noticed he did some of his own front desk work himself. He scheduled my appointment, took my insurance information, and scheduled my next appointment. I appreciated that he wasn’t above that.

I need to make another appointment. Dr Perona and all of his staff are really great. I had a little miscommunication with the staff about my insurance coverage and I expressed some concerns. As soon as they heard my concern, Dr Perona & his staff took them seriously and addressed them right away. Awesome doctors and staff!

I’ve been with Dr. Perona for several years now and I can’t see why I’d ever change dentists again. The staff are great and help you stay relaxed through what can, let’s face it, be a very invasive and uncomfortable process. They’re friendly and fun without sacrificing their professionalism.
Note that I’m not a dentist-​phobe who just happened to finally find a decent one; I’ve never been afraid of the dentist and have had ones I really liked over the years, but Dr. P is just a step above. I always know I’ll come away feeling well taken care of and that if I have any questions or options about my treatment he and his team will take the time to make sure I have the information I want to make my choices. They motivate rather than nag and they respect you as an individual.

As I was relaxing at the dentist’s office last week, I thought, I really need to write a review about this place! Yes, you read that correctly, relaxing.
I have always hated the ultrasonic cleaner (the sound, the irritation, the pain), but in Maura’s hands it’s almost like a spa treatment. And Dr. Perona himself is just as great as his amazing assistant. He is friendly, thorough, well-​informed, funny, etc. They even have nice folk rock music piped in, rather than Musak, and the front office staff people rock too.
I cannot recommend this place enough!
