Had my first claim recently. Horrible customer service. More than 4 weeks out from the damage event and still not resolved. They made bogus assertion that NOT AT FAULT damage to my vehicle was an AT FAULT event because their «reconstruction specialist «expert could tell that the vehicle was moving during the damage (lie). The damage occurred by an unknown hit and run when we were away from the vehicle. How in the name of good God can this «expert» tell the vehicle was moving from this very small dent in the rear passenger door? Did the «reconstruction specialist» have an Ouija board. or some special psychic abilities to determine this? This sounds like an insurance company ploy to have any un-​witnessed hit and run classified as an «at fault» event to jack up the insurance premiums. I am moving to another insurance company.

I’ve had this product for several years now and I absolutely love it.
I have saved a ton of money since switching over and the device they give you to plug into your car has saved me on several occasions 1) my car was towed and I didn’t know where it was and was able to find it on their app 2) my car had a trouble light go on, which I thought was for a standard check-​up, but it turns out in my car that light means you have engine trouble. Their mechanic e-​mailed me and let me know this, which was pretty huge. 3) I lost my car in a parking lot and was able to find it with help from the app.
I was an in accident a while back and when I called the same person walked me through the whole process and made getting my car fixed as easy as it has ever been with an insurance company.
I highly recommend Metromile. If you aren’t sure if it will save you money, just do the math. Initially I thought I drove too much, but after doing the math I realized I could save quite a bit and so far I am.

This is a pay per mile auto insurance company. It is great for people who only uses their vehicle for commuting to and fro either work or school. The company provides a transponder to track your mileages. Pay close attention to your application and contract. Speaking from a personal experience, my credit card is still being charged even after the vehicle has been totaled. Notified again after the second time they charged, the representative said that the policy was never canceled. I’ve called a few days after hospitalization to inform them the accident, was reimbursed half of the monthly payment due to non– utilization of the vehicle. I’m still being charged my monthly payment. Now, they are asking for me to return the transponder or else will be charge for $ 100 replacement fee, if unable to return the device within 30 days. How am I supposed to look for the transponder, if I was unconscious after the accident. I’m just saying. So, people be aware.

Upon trying to pull a quote from these people, I already noticed several things going wrong:
1. The Chat button doesn’t work — what kind of legitimate business has a non-​functional website?
2. They auto pull my profile and say I have an «at fault» accident — I have no such accidents or claims.
3. They ask for my wife’s driver’s license and wouldn’t let me continue until it’s filled out. My wife has a PERMIT and I selected that on their website. Yet they still insist on a driver’s license number. Again, what kind of business has such a non functional website?!
Overall bad experience!

I just got my six month auto renewal from State Farm and thought I would check out what MetroMile would charge for the same protections I get with StateFarm. would be nice if their website worked. All morning it was THIS PAGE CAN’T BE LOADED. Went to the Google site, entered Metromile and called the number. heard a recording for twenty minutes saying «Your Queue position is five, your Queue position is five, your Queque position is five…» During my wait time I read the Unilocal comments below and just when I was about to hang up someone came on the line and asked if she could help me. I told her I just wanted to know what my costs would be for the same coverage as what I have and she said to hold on a moment AND DISCONNECTED ME. You know, sometimes its better to work with the devil you know…

My car was broken into on ⁰⁸⁄₂₁ (Friday) and I had to interact with Metromile and National General Insurance Group. It was by far the most terrible experience I had interacting with a company.
— NGIC could not pull up my record for almost 15 mins. I gave them my phone number, policy number and finally even my VIN before they could locate my account.
— While filing for a claim they ask for all the details all over again — something as basic as Car and Model. I provided that info to Meromile so how come NGIC doesn’t know any of this info.
— Absolutely no one was available to answer my questions. On Saturday (⁸⁄₂₂) I called 4 times and tried all the options on the IVR before I could get to someone to talk to. This CX agent was responsible for Glass chips etc and she had no idea about what my coverage was. She could even pull up my claim. On the site you claim «Our claims associates are available ²⁴⁄₇ to help you resolve your questions as quickly as possible.» and thats far from the truth.
— My priority is to get the car fixed asap. I got a quote from a number of service stations over the weekend but I couldn’t get them fixed because I had no one from your team to talk to about how the claims work. You are virtually shutdown over the weekend.
As a customer the cost savings are important and thats the reason why I signed up for metro mile in the first place. Having been in an incident and gone through your claims process Im convinced you are not someone I can rely on. You guys are virtually shut down over the weekends.
I did evangelize your service to friends but I will surely not do so in the future. I don’t want them to go through what I had gone through so I will warn them of how unavailable you are.
Thanks for the terrible service. I might as well pay a little bit more and go with someone with a better reputation.

Have not even tried the service yet. If you are going to be advertising especially on my Facebook page, and i click on your Ad because I thought it was a great idea and you offering a quote, please get the «Quote Page» functioning.
Have tried to get a quote (filling out the forms, last night and this morning, even with different city addresses) and I keep getting same output results «Page Not Found»
Or maybe it’s just my laptop… highly doubt that’s the case.

I wouldn’t recommend signing up with metro mile! I joined thinking it was a great deal for 2 drivers on a new car but then woke up the next morning to an email and an extra charge on my card. I called immediately and canceled my policy and was told the money I was getting back would be $ 89 buy midnight. That was a lie! My boyfriend and I have called back several times and the price we are getting refunded keeps going down and the money still hasn’t been refunded. The First Lady we talked to was rude and failed to put in the file that my boyfriend was authorized to call. So the second phone call I had to authorize him once again.
It’s been a week since we canceled the policy and still do not have the refund back! I’m really frustrated with mertomile right now!

Might be in the honeymoon phase but for $ 45/​month and 6.8c/mile (or as low as $ 29/​mo and 3.6c/mile if i took off collision/​comprehensive w $ 250 deductible on my nearly worthless ’98 Honda Prelude that mostly sits in the parkade while i bike around San Fran. And didn’t have that pesky speeding ticket damnit) Signup was easy online or by phone, they mail the mileage meter in a week, so first week’s miles are free! (Great if you need to cram in a trip to say Burning Man the first week of your insurance!)
Obviously if you don’t drive much (and don’t drive for Über, lotsa complaints online about billing issues with that) it seems way better than the $ 82/​mo quoted from All State since I drive about 120 miles/​mo. (With Metromile I could drive 568 miles before hitting $ 82, so it all depends on how much you drive). If you do road trip, miles over 150/​day aren’t charged (so that would be a max of $ 10/​day for me if we decided to say pilgrimage to Mt Rushmore but i imagine it would add up fast). Haven’t had to claim and I definitely don’t have a valuable vehicle so can’t speak for that. Happy motoring!

I have had a good experience with this company, but I also haven’t had to file any claims.
Before Metromile, I had Safeco. Someone totaled my car while it was parked while I was with Safeco. The person left no note. I didn’t have the best insurance for these kinds of things, so I had to pay 2,000 to fix it, since I need my car for one of the jobs I work. I wasn’t happy with my insurance after this anymore, so I decided to switch and make sure to get comprehensive insurance for the possibility of this happening again. I switched to Metromile.
I love metromile. I was paying way too much for the amount that I drive, and while scrolling facebook I saw the metromile ad. I clicked, got a quote, and everything went smoothly in the switching process. I’m paying $ 50 a month and still have comprehensive insurance (in case a horrible human hits my car again), so I’m happy.
This is the best part: they TEXT you when you’re parked in a street sweeping area. I’m serious, this has already saved me over $ 100 dollars and I’ve only been a customer for two months. I would have gotten a ticket this Tuesday if it wasn’t for this.
I recommend this insurance if 1) you don’t drive much 2) you like apps that keep you updated on your car 3) you need help remembering when street sweeping is 4) you’d rather get stuff done online than on the phone.

Have had Metromile since last fall and love them. Cut my insurance bill in half for pretty high coverage on my new model BMW. Representatives are super helpful and friendly. Glad to have finally ditched evil State Farm for a more reasonable insurance rate that isn’t raking me over the coals each month financial.

Don’t fall for this SCAM! I checked on other insurance quotes and thought this was the way to go because I’m a driver with Über. I don’t know how this could work for any Über driver. I’m thinking that Über «partnered» with Metromile to the tune of big profits. Just another example of how Über and it’s «partners» rip people off as their net worth continues to grow. (Last estimate was 50 billion)! Metromile has been charging me incorrectly for miles while I’m transporting passengers! I’m fighting to get the money back due to me. Other insurers gave me quotes that I wish that I’d gone with! The few positive reviews here sound too generic to be real! Stay away! You’ve been warned! My monthly insurance bill was $ 535! I feel so BURNED!

Biggest per mile auto insurance scam going. They start out telling you it’s .12 cents a mile but they took nearly half of my paycheck even after I made a down payment. When I called I got a robotic type woman who would only repeat «I’m sorry you’re upset Ma’am» lol… really Metromile? She would not even review my account with me and simply repeated that line to me several times before closing my account. Wow.

Do NOT get hit by a person with Metromile Insurance.
A woman insured by metromile recently backed into my new car. Metromile accepted liability for the accident; however, they will not pay for the damages caused. Apparently they need information from the driver at fault that cannot be disclosed and therefore will not pay for the damages until they can get her to cooperate.
Shouldn’t an insurance company have ALL the required information prior to insuring someone? you would think they would…
Fast forward 2 weeks, The woman that hit me still will not cooperate and my car has yet to be fixed. OH! and metromile confirmed that there is not a time frame she needs to comply with before they pay for my new WRX to be fixed and this could drag out anywhere from another month to a year.
Their only solution is to pay out of pocket to cover my insurance deductible and have my insurance cover the remainder and they will refund me (who knows when). Mind you, that’s only if and when the ding-​bat that hit me provides the necessary information in lets just assume, a year from now.
How about canceling the insurance of the driver that backed into my car until she gives you the information needed to fix my car? That should light a fire under her rear.

So I had this for a few months. They communicate mostly by email, which is fine. However, over memorial day weekend, they were gone early Friday. My bill was due the next day. Couldn’t reach anyone, so I left my info for payment. When they returned to the office on Tuesday, they debited my card and canceled my coverage. I’m pissed. A company with no customer service sucks ass. This is one of them. However, pissed off as I am, if you don’t do a lot of driving, its a good idea.

I just signed up. Either they need to add 50 more representatives to their contact center or install a better system (call back?). Is the third time I call them and need to wait for over 20 minutes on the phone or get prompted with the option for leaving a voice mail.

These guys are great– their Metronome is a neat little gadget that you link to your phone and keeps track of gas mileage, trips, car status stuff, and you can plot everything on cute green maps. I signed up for their insurance over the phone after being just a Metronome user for about a year, and the rep Courtney was sweet and helpful and really on top of things. Then earlier this week I got my first bill after a month of what I thought was normal driving and I am just in *shock* at how much money I had been throwing away before with a more traditional rate structure — hooray for market disruption, right?

I am a new Metromile customer. The onboarding process was smooth and I was happy to be saving ~$ 40 a month. However, my car got vandalized last week, and the claims process was TERRIBLE.
–The rep I spoke with kept asking me for my information — license plate, VIN number, address, phone, email — when I would have expected them to have it on file.
–There was a terrible echo on the phone line which made it really hard to communicate.
–I had a broken window that I needed to get fixed that day, but Metromile told me the claims process could take up to 2 days. I needed to find out if they would cover the repair (or whether I should shop around myself), but I couldn’t do that without finding out about coverage.
–The rep tried to find repair shops in network for me. I live in SF and he kept referring me to places in Oakland, Bayview, and other cities I haven’t even heard of. He finally found one in SF, only to realize that they don’t fix glass.
–I requested to speak with a manager, but they were apparently all in a meeting. The rep said the manager would call me back, but it’s been 5 days and I haven’t heard anything.
Apparently Metromile outsources their claims process to a third party, which probably explains the terrible service. I get that as a young company it’s hard for them to provide ²⁴⁄₇ claims coverage, but the result is that the service is terrible. I’d recommend staying away for now.
Edit: metromile reached out to apologize. It sounds like they are having some teething problems, which are hopefully resolved by now.

New Metromile customer, already saving lots of money compared to my previous coverage from Farmers. The Metronome was easier to install than I expected and I love all of the great data that I get from the app. I’ve dealt with Metromile’s customer service reps twice so far and had good experiences.
I haven’t had to file a claim yet. I’ll update this review if anything changes. So far, so good.

The face of the company and customer service up front are refreshingly straightforward and pleasant. However, in the event that you actually need to file a claim, you’re switched over to an external entity which is none the same. Zero communication and lacking the personal touch you’re looking for in such times.
In short, the company you sign up with is not the same company you actually end up dealing with when it matters most.
