BEST PLACE EVER.
I am a HUGE BMW enthusiast. They know everything, and look out for you even if its not in their best interest (i.e. they won’t have you do anything on your car that isn’t necessary). I have been taking my e46 BMW here, I have my friend take his X5 here, and now I am having my boyfriend take his Porsche 911 Targa.
I know this sounds nuts, but on top of having the best service ever (and best prices), Tom and Rob are the most FUN guys around! I actually look forward to bringing my car in!
If you are like me, and love foreign cars (BMW + Porsche), especially a little bit older models, the most important thing you can do is find a mechanic that you can trust, and knows it all. These are your guys. I feel so safe and taken care of knowing that I can call them at anytime and pop over there, and that everything will be alright.
And one more thing… Rob called me the other day to ask how my new control arm bushings are treating me — talk about customer service!

These guys are WONDERFUL. I took my 2000 MB for Service B and they were so helpful and reasonable in price. I even received a call from Rob just wanting to know how was the car running. These guys are great! They have been very honest with me and always keep me posted on the status of my car. One time they even did a diagnostic for me and then didn’t charge me for it when it turned out to be something that is outside of their scope of services to repair. They gave me tips on how to talk to the dealership about the issue and Rob even gave (not loaned) me a spare charger for my phone which was out of juice… that small kindness really turned my day around. They’re nice guys, honest and have fair pricing — what more could you want!

” best place in the Bay Area to get your Porsche worked on” Rob and Tom + team are fantastic excellent customer service and work. Honest knowledgeable real people who know how to fix your problems without breaking the bank. Rob has done more than expected to make sure I was taken care coming from a customer based business working at Nordstrom’s I can easily say that I know how to measure an experience through the perspective of a customer. I will continue to get any work I have done on my Porsche here and recommend it to anyone that I know, thanks for all you do!

We now take our 2007 Mini Cooper S to Rob and his team. While we have more work to do than we’d like because the car is getting old, Metric Motors always does a really transparent job sharing what is happening and what it might cost. Today Rob showed me the part that came out of the care and where it was worn out. This place’s honesty and efficiency eases the pain of paying for car maintenance. I will go back to them for more work in the future and trust them with our car and repairs for sure.

We took a 1999 Porsche Boxter to Metric Motors that we thought had a coolant leak. I called the day before and these guys were able to take me the next morning promptly at 8am. They were very professional, funny and kind-​and really knew their stuff about cars. I am a woman, and I usually dread going to mechanics because I feel either a. They are taking advantage of me, and/​or b. they are judging me, but at Metric Motors I felt very comfortable as Tom took me through each step of his analysis of the car as he looked at it. As it turned out, the car had a clean bill of health and he told me as such. I appreciated his honesty and integrity and I will definitely take my car here when things do go wrong in the future. Thanks so much!

Great customer service and quick turnaround time on a CV axle replacement for my 2003 VW Jetta. Only reason it’s not five stars is because the cost of the part was quite a bit higher than what I could find online. Next time, I may buy my own replacement part. Nevertheless, they still did the repair quickly and for about 75% of the estimate I got from VW of SF.

Amazing service, right price, and the folks here are super nice. They never try to sell unnecessary services, provide you the right education to manage your budget and service. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to service their car.

These guys are awesome!!! Our Mercedes broke down during rush hour and I had to tow it somewhere. I took a chance based on Unilocal reviews. I couldn’t be happier. Tom took our car in even though they were booked solid until next week. They quickly diagnosed what was wrong (battery and fuel pump) and was able to fix it by the weekend. They thoroughly explained what they did every step of the way. They also gave us some good advice on how to care for our older Mercedes.

Awesome Service, Great Prices. I had an engine check light on, came in, Rob and Tom did a diagnostic and told me it’s the thermostat and it’s not a big deal, they reseted the light and told me if it comes back again, come in and we’ll change the thermostat. They also have great Service A and B prices…

Tom, Rob, Adam, Jose and the rest of the guys were amazing. I took my car into them to get the brakes replaced. They explained and showed me everything that was going with the brakes. Their level of honesty was surprising and refreshing. You don’t come across that often in business. Tom told me I still had a few more miles left in my brakes, but I decided to replace them anyways die to time constraints.
I had some unrelated questions about other cars and car components and they took the time to answer my questions. Customer service was phenomenal! Thank you guys.

What else is there to say that hasn’t already been said? Rob is incredible. The nicest and most honest mechanic I’ve ever spoken to. He gave me an honest assessment of my car and the state that it’s in. Prices for labor are very reasonable if not lower than most other places in SF, but the service you get warrants at least double.

Rob and Tom are awesome! They provide good old-​fashioned customer service that is based on fairness, honesty and wanting to build a long standing relationship with customers. Their prices are very reasonable and they don’t try to upsell you on un-​needed repairs like the dealership service departments. I’ve taken my Mercedes and Mini to them and had great results.

I love Tom and Rob! They are trustworthy, honest, and super nice! They explain what needs to be done with your car and what you can wait a little while to do. Considering I know nothing about cars, it is a great feeling to be able to trust my mechanic and really believe that they are keeping my car in good shape without charging me an arm and a leg. I highly recommend going to Metric Motors!

Worst experience ever ! He is super expensive and he charges you for keeping your broken car in his garage. I would stay far from this place.

Awesome service! Tom is the man to look for, extremely friendly and super knowledgable! I will definitely bring my Mini Cooper back to Metric Motors for all future services & maintenance. I mean, they offer a «too true to be true» kind of customer service, but in fact, it’s true! Highly recommended!

All these five-​star reviews are well deserved.
Having moved to the city not long ago, I was dreading the process of trying to find a decent mechanic, who wouldn’t rip me off, for my 1997 BMW 328iC. As far as I was aware nothing major needed doing, but the old girl definitely needed some love, an oil change etc. Based on the plethora of glowing reviews on Unilocal for this business, I made an appointment.
They were able to squeeze me in for the next day, which apparently is unusual as business is booming, since they are building a great reputation and probably get a lot of customers courtesy of Unilocal.
As others have mentioned, Tom, the owner, is a great guy. Honest, down-​to-​earth, no BS and will tell you like it is. He genuinely seems more interested in making sure customers are satisfied than in making a quick buck or nickle-​and-​diming clients, like so many mechanics tend to do. He gave me some great advice for the HVAC control unit in my car, and with his help plus google, I was able to repair the unit, turning what would have been a $ 700 repair into a $ 2 purchase at Radio Shack!
I also like that Tom is «with it» technologically and responds promptly to emails, which is my preferred form of communication since I’m a computer geek.
Metric Motors did a full inspection of my car, oil change plus all the other stuff that goes with it, for a very reasonable price.
This is one of those old-​school family businesses that everyone should be supporting. A smiling professional who knows his trade and is out to make a fair wage for doing a good job. As he points it, Tom used to be standing on the other side of the counter so he knows what it feels like to get handed a bill for $ 1000 for work you barely understand and didn’t expect. Now he’s on the shopkeeper side of the counter and I’m glad of it!

Tom and Rob are the next door neighbors to us as I work in the area. They provide great service and great advice. Whenever I have issues with my Audi, they have been the ones that helped me out on the spot. I had a dead battery while parked on the street. Rob and the guys at Metric and a replacement in stock and in my car within 30 minutes.

A friend suggested to give them a try with my 2011 BMW X6 M. I was blown away with overall experience. The quote for the job came the minute it was promised and It was ¼ of the dealer estimate. All the charges were explained and every detail of the job was discussed. I am extremely happy with the work done and will stay with Metrics Motors for a long time!!! Job well done!!!

I first contacted 2 Porsche dealerships for a quote on a major service and brake job. One gave me a price of $$$ and the other never called me back. I had been warned that Bay Area Porsche dealerships are not the most friendly. So I turned to Unilocal to find an independent Porsche mechanic. I called Metric Motors as they had the 5-​Star reviews. I spoke with Rob who was friendly and explained the work to be completed with a major service. He said I could start off with an oil change and they would provide a free inspection to see if the other items were necessary.
It was raining heavily on the day I dropped off my Boxster. I joked with Rob that being a So Cal transplant, I did not bring my umbrella. He was so nice to lend me his umbrella to use while I waited for the work to be completed. They did the work for the oil change and my front brakes. It was still expensive but the parts for my car are pricey. The pricing was definitely lower than the dealership price that I was quoted. My car feels great and I am happy that Unilocal helped me find another local favorite.
