Mayflower Market

Very average pastrami sourdough sandwich (they ran out of Dutch Crunch) at the deli. Overall seems like a solid store with some decent values for the neighborhood, but the service was lacking and not very friendly. The deli prices are good but I walked out with an unsatisfied feeling, primarily due to the lack of friendliness. I’ll try again during the daytime!

I don’t know why all these reviews are horrible about the Sandwich Makers. They are great! Fast & Friendly, I’ve been coming here for over a year. since I work really close. There sandwich’s are delicious. Sometimes it gets little back up, well what do you expect when the line is almost out the door.

Superior fruits and veggies and better quality food options to choose from then nine out of ten corner stores. The deli sandwiches are excellent as well. The owners always greet you with a smile though the guys behind the deli counter never seem quite happy, unfortunately — I’m often greeted with scowling faces.

Mayflower is much more than just a corner market; the food selection rivals larger grocery stores save for raw meat, and the deli serves up world class sandwiches at 1994 prices. The Chicken Salad, Texican Melt and Reuben were respectively the best of their kinds that I’ve ever had.
The fruit is always top notch, picked fresh daily and with incredible variety, so there were weeks when I could conceivably shop for all of my needs right here, if I was especially busy. Otherwise it was my go-​to lunch spot as it is for just about every professional, student, retail employee and construction worker in the neighborhood, Monday through Friday.
The wine and cheese selections are exquisite, and befitting for such an affluent neighborhood. The great thing about the cheeses, as noted by another reviewer, is that they are cut and packaged into mini-​portions, perfect a night in or evening occasion, without the hassle of buying a huge bulk like at larger stores.
Owners Lefty, Angelo, Peter and his sons Dimitri and Greg, together the Prongos Family, are some of the most authentic, golden-​hearted people I’ve ever known, and together they are such a blessing to this great community. Through the years there have been a rotating cast of warm, engaging cashiers with unique personalities that gives this store life as a cultural «third place». I hope this brilliant little slice of mom and pop remains through the generations.

My neighborhood market! Love this place. The best parts for me are 1) the cheese selection– you can buy small pieces of different kinds of cheese (perfect for 1 or two people!) for between $ 1-​$ 3; 2) the deli sandwiches. My personal favorite is the club, no cheese, add avocado on dutch crunch. about $ 7. Amazing!
Minus one start for the insane prices. I know it’s Pac Heights but come on!

Owners Lefty, Peter and Angelo run the store. You will find at least one of them there everyday! This market is a great spot to get a good sandwich! Bread is fresh and they use Boar’s Head meat! Love it there! I have tried every special sandwich!
For those complaining about customer service especially from the employees behind the deli counter, maybe you should treat them with respect!!!
Give them a smile, be friendly, have some manners and say thank you! Don’t act so entitled!!!

Avoid!!! Not worth the horrible customer service with some many great places close by serving deli sandwiches. The guys behind the deli counter could not explain to me why they were unable to make a sandwich and then the other man was very aggressive and in my face. We live in the neighborhood and we will make sure our friends know how they treat customers here.
It’s really sad, the local market use to a be a place our friends and family used on a regular basis. This is the 2^nd time this has happened. So we will not go back until the market decides to hire more professional staff.
Went to Mollie Stones and had a wonderful sandwich…

The cashiers used to be super nice and efficient but these days I seem to only get the rude, lazy cashiers who don’t want to use the credit card machines and charge me .79 for a .50 lemon. I used to go there often but now I try to avoid it as much as possible.

Maybe I thought this was a real grocery store… They have the worst selection ever (ok maybe that’s an exaggeration) but hey, it’s pretty bad. I hate walking into a store, being done with half of my list, and then realizing that they don’t even carry the other half of my list (and I don’t buy a bunch of weird specialty items). I would pretty much just count on coming here for milk, apples, and yogurt (crappy yogurt brands, crappy apples, and only one brand of milk, by the way).

Mayflower is my neighborhood market. I love the convenience (just 1 block from my house). It’s great if you need to grab some quick items to cook a meal and they also make some tasty sandos. The staff is friendly and efficient as well. What’s not to like?

Remember that episode of Seinfeld about the «Soup Nazi»? Well, the deli at Mayflower appears to be modeled identically after his kitchen with one crucial difference: the food served up at this place is not remotely spectacular nor worth putting up with the INCREDIBLY RUDE staff.
Generally the experience goes something like this: no greeting followed by abrupt responses to any questions or clarifications, and culminated by a mumbled (mostly non-​English, mind you) announcement your sandwich is ready.
I should mention, however, that the guys at the cash registers are almost always fine to deal with… it’s just the straight-​from-​the-​DMV-​or-​post-​office guys behind the lunch counter.
Even though it’s so convenient, two+ years of dealing with this place is enough. Though their selection of sandwiches and groceries is less, I’ve started going to Gino’s across the street. They are at least friendly and appreciative of their neighbors/​customers.

I hate to do this to my neighborhood market, but this is the truth.
I shop in this market at least 2 – 3 times each week, and to this day not a single employee has attempted to recognize me or acknowledge that I am a frequent customer. Not even a simple «hello» or «good to see you.» I’m by no means starving for attention, but come on guys, this is simple.
Oh, and don’t get sandwiches from the deli. It’s mandatory that all sandwiches are served with a slimy slice of attitude, topped with a heap of complacency sauce. It isn’t worth it.
It’s a shame that we can’t have a better market in our neighborhood.

I used to love grabbing sandwiches at Mayflower before heading out of the city, but my last two experiences made me never want to return.
The staff at the deli counter is incredibly rude. They never say hello, they do not make eye contact or speak to you, if they do speak to you they do not speak clearly, sandwiches are not made properly or as ordered, and the staff seem to be more concerned with texting or being on their computer than the customer service they are paid to provide.
My most recent experience will be my last at Mayflower. I left with a horrible sandwich and in a bad mood with this awful service. Management needs to seriously consider restaffing the deli counter to bring it back to the amazing local corner store it used to be.
That said, the girl checking out at the front counter was incredibly polite and sweet. Maybe she should get a raise and staff the deli as well…

The main reason Mayflower market has such a great deli is that all of the ingredients are fresh and high quality. I’ve been coming here for almost a decade and I’ve never had a so much as even a questionable sandwich. The market itself has a great selection of cheese, soft drinks, beer and chips. A wonderful picnic supply deli.

When I need to shop for a few items for my kitchen or pantry (and I don’t want to deal with the lines/​parking/​prices of Whole Foods, Safeway, or Mollie Stone’s, I head over to Mayflower Market.
This place is the quintessential mom & pop/​neighborhood grocery store. It’s both modest in size and prices. Although its not as large as other supermarkets, it still has everything I need (from canned foods to cleaning products). They also have a pretty decent deli (most sandwiches are $ 6 or less), a tiny salad/​soup bar, and plenty of fresh produce/​veggies.
The lines are never long here, and the service (for the most part) is friendly. However, on my most recent visit to the store, the guy at the register was more focused on watching some animal show on TV than ringing me up. Not exactly the best customer service, but what ever.
Word to the wise — parking in the neighborhood can be challenging. If you can’t find street parking, you’re more or less S.O.L.

Now I rarely care about service, food and taste reign supreme in all cases. However, this experience with the deli counter was so negative that I do not want to step into this place again, despite its convenient location.
Coming back from volunteering at Pets Unlimited, I stopped in to pick up sandwiches for myself and my boyfriend. I walk up, and not having ordered here before, peruse the menu for a bit and then approach to order. The guy asks what I want, and I say I’m going to get a BLT and a club sandwich. He asks what bread I want for the BLT — I ask the choices. He rolls his eyes, snaps at me that they’re listed on the board. I, feeling rushed, answered sourdough. He says, quote word for word «How the heck am I supposed to know what sourdough you want? There’s a roll and sliced bread.» I say roll, and he asks if I want anything extra on the BLT, still rolling his eyes. I said onions. He said that would cost extra. WHAT! On the top of the board it says sandwiches include the standards like lettuce, onions, pickles, etc. I say nevermind. I order the club on sliced wheat, and it doesn’t list mayo on it’s ingredients (my boyfriend HATES mayo) and I don’t want to contradict the board and get my head bit off again, so I don’t say anything. I get my sandwiches, pay at the counter, and walk off feeling kind of steamed! The guy was a total jerk.
Get home and my boyfriend looked sadly at me opening his sandwich; the club was smothered in mayo. Sandwiches were basic, nothing to write home about and probably had spit in them. Terrible, terrible place.

I dislike the unfriendly staff quite a bit. For a neighborhood store, it really fails on service. Staff is not friendly, doesn’t greet customers, nor are available for quick questions. Checking out at the cashier feelings like I am giving the cashier pain for making him go through this
