Dr. Mark Co is a board-​qualified podiatrist treating patients in the SF Bay Area. He is on staff at CPMC and St. Mary’s Medical Center. He graduated Johns Hopkins University with a BS/​MS in Electrical Engineering. While working as an AT&T engineer, he completed an MBA at NYU Stern School of Business in the evenings. He subsequently pursued telecom and Internet product management opportunities rising to director-​level positions.

Despite his success in high tech, he realized his calling through a defining moment at SF General Hospital. He has spent nearly a decade realizing his goal of becoming a physician, the profession of his father, a general surgeon, and his mother, an anesthesiologist. Dr. Co graduated from an extremely competitive 3-​year Kaiser Permanente Residency program in the Bay Area.

Dr. Co provides general consultations, laser toenail treatment, orthotics, and treats foot and ankle trauma, heel pain, bunions, hammertoes, ingrown toenails, corns/​callus, warts and gout.

Would not recommend this person if you like knowing what’s going on while you’re treated. If you’re happy just blindly taking directions from a machine, save yourself some money and Google your condition!
Was referred by my primary care physician after an ankle injury that had been initially diagnosed as mild persisted for longer than expected. By this point I already knew my ankle wasn’t recovering as it was supposed to for a mild injury so something must be up. However, the doctor proceeded to completely ignore what I said and treated me as if my injury was the product of my imagination!
He came in, looked at my foot for a few seconds, and started blurting out a bunch of different things to do that would probably have come up had I Googled «what to do about sprained ankle». At no point did I feel like I was being treated individually, he was clearly just prescribing some common cure he throws at everybody. This would actually have been fine if he hadn’t been in a huge rush and took some time to explain what could have happened, how the course of treatment usually goes, why and when I should do stuff. Hell, he could’ve just said «I still don’t think you have anything serious, let’s just keep trying this for now». But nope, nothing!
The way it played out, I didn’t even remember everything I «was supposed to do» by the time he stopped saying stuff. He did show me how to wrap it (gently!) every night, and then said I should do some weird 45 minute long icing routine, because why not. No mention of how often or when I should do it. Then like that, he was gone, saying to come back in two weeks so he could bill my insurance more. No, thanks!
To top it all off, a nurse (?) came in to hand me my «brace”(-ish… thing) I had to wear every day for the next two weeks. She offered to show me how to put it on, and proceeded to wrap it very tightly! Since I was instructed to wrap my ankle gently at night, I asked her if it’s supposed to be tight or not. Her answer? «Oh, if you don’t like it you don’t have to wear it. I can take it back.» Completely unwarranted and unprofessional! STAY AWAY!

My primary care practitioner referred me to Dr. Co saying that «You need to take care of your foot fungus». It had been 2 years since I had been comfortable wearing sandals or flip-​flops because of a growing number of thickening and weird looking toenails. On top of that what I thought was a callus on the end of my middle left toe turned out to be a very stubborn wart.
Dr. Co treated me for the fungus with a combination of laser therapy and a topical solution I put on once a day. I have a couple of months to go before total healthy toe grow-​out. But the results have been so great already (4 months) that I am wearing flip-​flops again with my toes looking almost back to normal. Dr Co also diagnosed & removed the wart which went a long way in improving the overall look.
I’m completely happy with the treatments. The laser treatments can get hot, but it’s not horrible and it works. Dr. Co and his staff are friendly. He puts you at ease and I couldn’t give him a higher recommendation.

I was referred to Dr. Co by my physician for foot problems he noticed during a long-​overdue physical. I had a badly cracked, yellowed toenail and some annoying Planter warts. Timidly, I made the foot appointment thinking these were gonna be painful and probably expensive to fix. Upon meeting Dr. Co, however, I was immediately put at ease. He’s very friendly, a good listener, and was particularly attentive to my concerns about expense and uncomfortable treatments. After a thorough exam, those warts were just really deep calluses which he removed painlessly in about three minutes. And then, the toenail whose dreaded removal I had been avoiding for years did not require removal at all because I elected to have this very nifty laser treatment which saves the nail while killing the virus! In addition, he offered a couple of even less expensive nail-​saving options had I preferred it. The nail then began its obvious recovery in just one week!
Also, I had resigned myself to live with some pain in my left heel which I acquired after these crazy people convinced me to join them on a «very short, easy hike» in Hawaii which actually turned out to be all day over rocks in sandals! I’m old and thought this pain would just always be with me but he simply suggested a better pair of shoes with a particular type of orthopedic insert and the pain, which I had been living with for over a year, totally left within one week and has not returned! I had such an excellent experience with this guy and can genuinely recommend him to anyone with annoying foot issues. He’s friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and best of all, I’m cured! First of all, he is a nice guy. He gave me a shot which ultimately didn’t work and I can’t blame him for that. My problem is I knew I needed my gait analyzed and that the way I walk was probably related to my problem and that I need new orthotics. His response was to have me call my insurance company to ask if they covered particular diagnoses. This resulted in an extended conversation between two non medical people-​myself and the customer service person at blue cross. She had no idea what I was talking about though she was nice and tried to find out. I think this should really be the job of the person who works in his office. If you don’t want to deal with insurance don’t contract with insurance. The customer service person and I ended up thinking that my lame insurance might only cover orthotics if I have diabetes which I don’t. I’m not going back to Dr Co because he said that if I have to pay out of pocket I have to pay the same as if insurance is paying. 300 bucks. Anyway, I“m suffering and I’m going to go to a different podiatrist this time.

Took my mom to see Dr. Co due to pain in her big toe which had been bothering her for months. Dr. Co made the correct diagnosis right away and explained to us the different treatment options, even going out of his way to explain to us that the less intrusive (and no doubt less expensive) option might be good enough for her. My mom chose that option, and Dr. Co was right! Her pain disappeared almost immediately, and we are impressed, not just because of his competency but because of his unbiased opinions. I have never bothered to do any Unilocal reviews, in fact this is my 1st time, but I’m making an exception for Dr. Co.

I was referred to this office by my primary care doctor. I had my choice of 3 doctors in this office. After reading the Unilocal reviews, I choose Dr. Co. All the reviews about him were spot on. He is quite friendly, personable, and easy to talk to and understand. He examined my toe, took xrays, explained what the problem was, my options, and I was on my way. I felt good knowing what was wrong and what my options are to take care of it. Dr. Co’s friendly demeanor made me a believer and I will be returning for anything foot related. His office staff was just as friendly as he was. Easy location and parking for those of us that drive in (I drive in from Pacifica).
