Maido Stationery & Gifts supplies superior quality Japanese stationery, specialty papers, pens, calligraphy supplies, gift items, organizers, collectibles and more. Every item we supply is officially licensed and our stock is constantly updated to reflect the newest items available.

Our company’s mission is to make our wide range of high-​end stationery products available to customers in the US market. To this end, we largely carry items that are otherwise very difficult, if not impossible, to find outside of Japan. We only stock products adhering to our highest quality standards in mechanism, make, material, design, and technology. Additionally, we manage multiple retail locations that are open 7 days a week.

History

Established in 1988.

Our humble beginnings trace back to NBC Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of stationery goods and licensed museum merchandise established in 1963 in Tokyo, Japan by our first president, Takeshi Imanishi. Following its successful growth throughout Japan, NBC expanded overseas to open its first US location, Kinokuniya Stationery and Gifts Store in Japantown, San Francisco in 1988. We have since opened our Maido Stationery Stores in Santana Row in San Jose (2003) and in the Westfield Shopping mall in Downtown San Francisco (2007).

Although we are new to the e-​commerce market, nobody can compete with our 20 plus years of expertise in pens, papers, and Japanese stationery. As our online website develops, we will be showcasing our wide array of unique, high quality Japanese products, from specialty papers, pens, fine stationery, calligraphy supplies, gift items, organizers, collectibles, and more.

This is a great little stationery store in Japan Center. There aren’t many stationery stores left, so I hope this one is able to make it. I did my part!
It has lots of cards etc. As well as some unique gifts. I picked up a couple of little music boxes for about 13 bucks each. The mechanism is housed in cute decorated cardboard boxes. I think the people I got them for will like them.

If you’re a stationery lover or planner addict, make sure you check this store out! It has tons of paper goodies and a variety of great pens! If you’re into travelers notebooks– they have a little section for refills! Such cute little things everywhere. Don’t forget to check out Kinokinuya bookstore across. OH and Maido has TWO locations in this mall. One upstairs and one downstairs!

This review is for the upstairs store. It has such great items that would make interesting gifts for adults and kids alike. Hilarious greeting cards, beautiful postcards, journals, mechanical pencils in every size lead (even some I didn’t know existed), toys and trinkets… Come explore – you won’t regret it!

I really like this Japanese stationary store. The store feature many San Francisco items such as unusual postcards, stickers and poster. The rest of the store is filled with washi paper in large 18×24″ formats, all sizes of origami paper, stamps, pouches and other cute items to use for school or the office.
I look forward to going here everytime I’m in Japantown.

Excellent store, probably my favorite in Japantown. The store is in two parts, one upstairs in the mall, and one downstairs in the same building. Both are excellent.
The upstairs store is devoted mostly to art, school, and office supplies. The selection of notebooks is particularly good, with varying thicknesses, rules, and paper types. There are plenty of binders and dividers for organization. On the other side of the store, there is an abundant selection of arts and crafts supplies. I found a set of markers in various shades of gray, as well as several sets of watercolors.
The downstairs store has a broad selection of odds and ends, primarily gifts and stationary. They have plenty of Christmas cards, which was great because we desperately needed them. You never know what you might find down here.
A terrific store that I couldn’t get by without. Definitely give it a visit!

Maido lures you in the moment you lay eyes upon it. Once you step inside you have a desire to buy an array of items you don’t need but feel like you must have because they are too cool or cute to pass up. You want to replace all the notebooks, calendars, and miniature figurines in your possession with everything in Maido.
Some of my favorite items include the Bathroom Guest Book, ice cream door stopper, and murder ink. The Bathroom Guest Book is perfect for parties if you have funny and slightly nasty friends. Have you ever seen anyone use a door stopper at home? I doubt it. But how neat is a door stopper in the appearance of a dropped ice cream cone? Murder ink is great if you can appreciate dark humor, and it is always smart to keep a pen and paper handy.
It is rare to a shop with such cute and eclectic items in the states and probably the closest one can get to shopping in Tokyo.

This place wasn’t really for me, although I can definitely see the appeal. The stationery is out of my budget and not really my style. I think Maido is for younger, sassy hipster girls who want to be arty with attitude. Best deal in the store: the $ 1 turtle and elephant bracelets by the door on the first floor. I bought a pink one. :)

Pens on pens on pens.
I come here every time I run out of my favorites. They have a large selection of pens, colors, brands, notebooks, and other cute stationary. I prefer the Sarasa 0.5 at slightly less than $ 2/​pen.
The store is organized but it always feels too small for how many people and things they have there. Not a huge deal though.

This place has the cutest most adorable stationary, stamps, pens, notebooks and etc.
They carry a bunch of moleskin notebooks. had to resist!
The women working here are lovely and helpful as well.

This is just an all around cute stationary store that pretty much can cater to all your needs. Whether it’s color in pens or thickness/​size in lead for mechanical pencils. It’s just too cute not to stop by and browse even if you don’t have anything that intended to buy that day.

As expected, this Mai Do location is just as great as the Santana Row location.
Mai Do has an extensive selection of Japanese stationery that is difficult to find elsewhere. They even have rare eraser refills for just about every fancy mechanical pencil they carry.
While their items are certainly pricey, the large selection and friendly customer service makes the whole experience worth it.

I LOVE Maido Stationery. There are a whole bunch of cute office supplies and cute papers to choose from! I found myself impulsively spending on super cool stickers and stamps for my little first and second graders.
The layout of the store is organized and straightforward. Maido is across from a bookstore and adjacent to Sophie’s Crepes. The store may be small, but there are a lot of awesome finds that are in between affordable and slightly expensive. Next time I coming back to get those super cool leggo and animal erasers for my kids, I’m pretty sure they would go crazy over them!

A narrow little shop deep inside Japantown, Mai Do offers you some of the most fancy shmancy art supplies and more that you would not typically find anywhere else!
From erasable pens, markers, and highlighters, to stamps of different sizes, shapes, and colors, I’m telling you — this store will easily bulk up that Christmas stocking of yours come Holiday season.
A fair warning: it can get a bit cramped in there, but don’t get any suspicious ideas; the workers are as attentive and observant as they are helpful to your needs as a customer, so no pocketing little items without paying! Besides, everything is so cheap here, people, c’mon now ~
Go release your inner geek and have fun, and explore, and shop ’til you drop!

Well… I live in Los Angeles at the moment and we have a Little Tokyo. BUT NOTHING COMPARES to this place!
You want intricate pens and pencils that make your writing neat? Do you want different colors too? Do you want awesome cards, stationery sets, pretty paper, organizers, notebooks, note-​paper, white-​out, cute tape JAPANESE STYLE? Do you want multi-​colored pens? Do you want ERASERS THAT WORK? Do you want pencils for math? Do you just want japanese stationery stufff!!!
It’s here. It’s here! A bit pricey, but hey for the quality. HEY. I get the .3 pens in different colors, I get the zebra sarasa clip pens generally and sometimes will pick up some mechanical pencils if I’m taking math.
I think each of those pens are $ 1.75. The multi-​colored was $ 8.00 if I remember correctly.

Nice Japanese stationary shop. There’s two shops. The top floor has more of the stationary and pen selection. The basement floor has cards and accessories.
Prices are between reasonable and slightly expensive depending on what you get. Selection is also more diverse than their Westfield Mall location.

This cute little spot is downstairs in one of the Japan Center malls. Not too long ago, I recall it had more stuffed animals and cutesy accessories for the younger set. In the last 6 months or so, Maido has grown up and seems to have more mature, yet still cutesy stationery, gifts and even candles. Their Illume candle line smelled amazing but was quite pricey. Loved the lotions they carry as well as fun wallets and T’s.
Really, though, the star of the show is their stationery items-​adorable but not something I’m in the market for. Great place to browse, well laid out and cutesy fun for the more mature set.
