Description

Specialties

My work has largely been the design of new and remodeled single family homes throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. My office has also worked on restaurant, academic and commercial structures. I am particularly happy with a feasibility study we did for the seismic retrofit of the Hearst Greek Theater at UC Berkeley. In that study, we uncovered how an early west coast, non-reinforced, public concrete structure was actually built.

History

Established in 1986.

I have always enjoying working with people who are intimately connected with the buildings that they commission. Over time, I have found home owners to be quite demanding and challenging to understand, yet in the end, as you work with them, they come to feel that their buildings originate from themselves and are thus authentic. This contrasts with many buildings and environments in which you do not sense their being shaped by caring human hands.
