Loved To Death

What happened to all their other taxidermy stuff (mice and squirrels) they used to have? I feel like the place got smaller or was way low on inventory. Wasn’t as interesting as I remember it years ago.

i most definitely love this place to death! the owner, audra, and helper chauncey were super helpful and friendly. i told them both that they should charge admission for their awesome gallery. totally blew me away! the first time i went there they were actually closed, so i feel extremely grateful i had the chance to re-​visit again today. loving my pieces! thank you!

Update– we haven’t been back for a year. However, we actually bought stuff this time. Started talking to the guy at the desk… This dude is so passionate about his job, told us stories, and answered a ton of questions, etc. Highly recommend!

Rude service at the store with more refined items. Came in at 6:50, and an overweight gentleman with piercings snidely kicked me out at 7:00 with a sneer, even though it clearly states that they close at 7:30. Had full intention in purchasing a $ 160 ring that I asked to see, but he had no patience and rudely asked me to leave, like I was some hobo off the street that was causing a disturbance. He obviously can’t read his customers, and had no bedside manner. Oh well, I’ll take my money elsewhere.

Welcome to my favorite boutique in haight and ashbury! Filled with taxidermy and odd antiques. My first time I went into check out this store… I came across a book of all of Mark Ryden’s work. Instantly I fell in love with this place. They have creepy casts of human skulls, vintage dolls, jewelry made with teeth, alligator eyeballs in jars and fake skulls with Ouija board sketches on them.
The boutique itself is pretty small, there is an upstairs as well. Also you’re not allowed to take any pictures in the store. Darn! Haha

I was initially excited to visit this store because I had heard of it from employees at one of my favorite stores, the Bone Room in Berkeley. I was particularly interested in checking out their collection of Victorian mourning jewelry and antique dental implements. I was pretty disappointed with their selection, honestly. I’ve seen similar pieces of mourning jewelry both in shops and online for drastically lower prices — they seem to be taking advantage of most people’s lack of knowledge here. Additionally, their selection of dental devices was very limited and also overpriced, without any real rarities to be seen. In the end, this is a fun little tourist trap that’s taken advantage of its location and a feature on a TV show to jack up their prices without offering substantial quality.

A novel tourist trap in the Haight. This store will appeal to anyone with a taste for the macabre and the aesthetic. The store itself is lovely to look at and features many beautiful pieces. LTD is packed with items which, upon closer examination, are mostly new, not antiques. Shop with care and beware of their high prices on non-​antique items. The staff is a small, mostly-​friendly group and they watch visitors like hawks (I figure they’ve had some shoplifting issues). Visitors are also discouraged from using their phones in the store. Signs in the store state this clearly, so don’t fuss if the staff asks you to put your phone away.
The store lists a subset of it’s stock online, proudly maintaining about ²⁄₃ of their inventory in-​store. They are currently piloting «Über Same-​Day Delivery» on their website which may catch some patrons off-​guard.
I exchanged a few emails with the owner of the establishment over an issue (now resolved) with an online order, and she was very terse.
You can find similar items in antique shops and online at more reasonable price points. Despite this, I would say LTD is worth a visit if you’re in the area.

I finally had the time to visit this store over our Thanksgiving get-​away. What a treat! I spent at least 1 smooth hour in this store soaking up all the oddity goodness. Trying to decide WHAT to buy when you want EVERYTHING is hard. The young lady working there was as kind as can be and spoke to me a little about everything I asked to see. I have a cross wall at home and there selection of crosses (with history) is great! I walked out with a few good items and the definite feeling of wanting to return soon. Loved to Death… I love you to death.

My husband and I found ourselves wandering down Haight St checking out the eclectic mix of stores. I was delighted to stumble upon «Loved to Death». It’s not a huge store, but it has a nice collection of antiquities and oddities. The prices were high, but not unreasonably so. The staff was friendly.
I think just about anyone could find something of interest here, provided your interests run a bit macabre. Antique medical equipment, mourning jewelry, taxidermy, insect specimens, and creepy dolls all can be found here. I can’t wait to come back and pick up some unique home décor.

If you’re into taxidermy and odd antiques, stop here!!!
There is some seriously strange items in this store, but very unique. The last time I stopped in here, I came across a silver ring with a human molar tooth as the center (not a good substitute for a diamond and not recommended for an engagement ring).
The store is pretty dark inside and you’re not allowed to take pictures of merchandise, so it makes you kind of feel like you’re in a creepy museum — which makes it even more interesting…
The associates are helpful and really offer a lot of background information on anything you’re interested in purchasing, which gives things more of a special meaning.
I would rate this place 5 stars if they’d offer more reasonable products because to be completely honest… You could find some similar, if not the same, merchandise on Etsy.
I’d come back here for the experience.

A very odd magical store with art, oddities, jewelry and more. I bought two skull candles that are very nice. Things tend to be more on the expensive side here so I will save some funds and be back to buy and experience more.
If you like the dark and macabre this is the store for you.

Really cute shop. Awesome products and I would have loved to purchase something but it was a bit pricey. Everyone on the staff was super friendly however.

My favorite holiday has always been Halloween and my favorite era Victorian, so I love stores like this. This is the kind of store I dreamed about when I was a young Goth («death rock’ in those days). Too many odd, dark and cool things to list, but I am particularly interested in hair work and mourning jewelry, as well as modern jewelry of insects in amber, etc. Store is neat and clean, a change from most of the dusty junk shops that usually have these sort of items.

What a lot of fun this store is… and the staff are awesome. Everyone is so upbeat and helpful. They have the most gorgeous jewelry and I was simply fascinated by the earrings, pendants, and rings that contained butterfly wings because the colors were vibrant and striking, and almost seemed to be illuminated. What a wonderful way to pay respect to the short lifespan of a beautiful butterfly!
There is something for everyone in Loved to Death and their sister store that is right next door. If you love far out and unique décor, unusual items of wonder, and have a sense of adventure, get ready to part with your cash!

6 STARS One of my favorite stores in the city. The staff is friendly and knowledgable about all the items in the store — some are super freaky others are plain jane — but overall there is something for everyone but plan on being a little surprised and maybe weirded out to see some of the crazy things for sale… love the always changing ‘1 of a kind merchandise.

I first saw this store on the TV show oddities, and was thrilled to find that it was located on Haight street.
While pricey, the objects and oddities (ha) they had on display were very interesting. I struck up a conversation with one of the employees who was very animated, which is a pleasantly stark contrast to the ambiance of the shop itself. Before I left, I bought a gorgeous crystal quartz point and two animal candles. I love going to this store, if not to buy things then to simply enjoy the displays.

This store is absolutely amazing! it’s so interesting and a bit creepy, which I love. The staff was very nice and attentive and was able to answer all of our questions. We bought a mini owl candle, a small dish, and a skull bracelet made out of real bones :) We’re weird. Even better, this place has an online shop! I’m very excited about that. We’re going to purchase a framed butterfly next.

Loved to Death? More like Loved to Steal… made a $ 180 order and never received my goods… Sent a ton of emails, was patient, but her lack of urgency can only mean one thing… THIEF!
I waited for a promised tracking number for months and lost my ability to file a claim through Paypal because I was certain she would follow through. The BBB will be contacting you soon Audra!

Been on Haight street couple times but I never knew this place existed!
The stores contained a bunch of random oddities that you can think off. Bats in resin, preserved animal bones, creepy vintage dolls, old baby coffins, snake skin wallets… etc.
The employees here are super welcoming and always check to see if you would like anything in their display cases.
I found myself almost whipping out my wallet a couple times to buy a bunch of stuff but I decided not to. Prices were decent but I was visiting a friend and didn’t want to lug around a bunch of stuff with me throughout the day.
If you’re ever in the Haight street area, check this place out for fun, buy some nice décor for your home or even find a super cool gift here for someone!

Encore un de ces magasins déjantés dont SF a le secret, une antre dédiée au macabre et au bizarroïde, entre les faux cercueils décoratifs (se marient avec tous les intérieurs) et les squelettes de monstres de foire plus ou moins difformes. Photos interdites (des écriteaux vous le rappellent tous les 50 centimètres), et ça né m’étonne pas puisque les lieux tiennent plus du cabinet de curiosités que de la boutique. Un arrêt touristique indispensable dans votre visite de Haight-​Ashbury !

Loved to Death is a popular curio boutique, bringing memento mori realness to the Haight. It had the same sort of preserved human and animal inventory as the Bone Room (which I visited earlier on the same day), but in contrast to the mom-​n-​pop shop vibe of the first, L.T.D. is an upsale boutique and gallery with slightly cold vibe and a much more applied gothic/​macabre atmosphere– but then they’ve got an image to uphold so that’s to be expected.
Plenty of lovely skulls and bones, preserved animals and insects (including funny little sporting beetles over the counter, surfing or riding motorcycles), dead things floating in jars or mounted in bell jars, antique mourning jewelry made of hair, old medical ephemera and awesome framed prints and canvas art. I was gagging over the adorable taxidermy (taxidermied?) fox in the storefront window! Besides the intentionally eerie items, there’s random antiques, books and home décor items scattered throughout the shop.
Prices are high, but again that’s to be expected from a famous venue, especially one that’s been on TV. It is a cool place to lurk around and look at all the spooky stuff, but I was a bit thrown off by the feeling of being watched, both by staff and by the large security guard hovering near the front door. Erm, I promise not to take a photo… please don’t kill me, stuff my body and turn me into a shop display.
