Lombard Street

Its so pretty! however there were so many of those cable wires in the way of my shot I couldn’t get a decent picture with my iPhone. So many tourist or people there doing the same thing lol. I’m sure if I had one of those cool drones or was a taller person I could’ve taken a better picture.

I love this street, it is so cute. I love all the hydrangeas they look so lovely. We had our über driver take us around town. He was so nice do indulge us in our little touristy outing. This street is unique to San Francisco and a must see and ride. I have not been back to this part of town for over 10 years and it still looks great.

The ultimate reward of visiting Lombard Street comes when you start at the bottom and walk up. Aside from the awesome workout, the view from the top is amazing. It turns into a pretty intense workout, so the «reward» I mentioned is more about the feeling of accomplishment than anything else.
I can’t imagine living on this street. The constant pedestrians would drive me crazy, but I guess you know what you’re getting into when you write a check for seven figures (I assume) to buy one of these homes.
I’ve never seen anything like it and visiting once is one of those San Francisco things that you have to do when you’re here.

Yes, it’s touristy. Yes, there are always a bunch of people. Yes, it’s just a road. But c’mon, you have to come and see it once right: the «most crooked street in America.» I took tons of pictures, it’s close to the piers and the Embarcadero!
Be warned, it is on the top of a very steep hill. I highly recommend getting the Über to drop you off at the top and walk down rather than up.

We got here super early and drove down the street. It was so cool and I just can’t believe that people live on this street. It’s so fun to drive down at 5 mph and see all the beautiful flowers and houses and the view is amazing!!! Seriously if you have the time check it out for reals yo!!! Hope to do it again walking. Just couldn’t with the 5 month old baby lol

[ The hub suggested I take our 4 yr old on a mommy and me vacay, but where do you take a rambunctious 4 yr old little lady in training? SF, of course! With it being only an hours flight away, it was perfect! ]
I hadn’t been to Lombard Street in well over a decade, but thought the little one might enjoy it. My friend picked us up from the airport and we proceeded here after having breakfast. After driving down the «zig zag» as my daughter called it, we parked the car and the little one lead us up all the way to the top of the street in a flash. I wish I had her energy. Anyone know how to bottle something like that?!
Even mid-​day on a Friday there were plenty of tourists blocking the streets, I can’t imagine how much worse it is on a weekend. I tried to take more pics than usual, but I’m more of a live in the moment type so I don’t have much to show for our half hour or so here.
There are stairs on either side of the street so take one side up and the other side down. Perfect! Plenty of flowers for you to «stop and smell the roses» if you’d like and I’m certain there are plenty of other tourists around (at any time) to take a pic for you. Stop with the selfies and let someone get a wide shot of you and the scenery! Trust me, one day, you’ll want to remember MORE THAN JUST YOUR FACE ;p

Lombard St., also known by its popular nickname, «The Crookedest Street in the World,» is a fun attraction to visit, whether you drive, ride or walk down the block long street. It’s fun to watch cars approach, some with trepidation as they peak over the edge, basically at the point of no return, and take the plunge. Walkers are full of laughs and giggles as they watch the cars and each other, snapping endless photos. Maybe the most fun was watching a Segway tour traverse the curves. You’ve got to go down Lombard St. at least once but more than once is even more fun.

For me, this was a must, I’ve seen Lombard Street in so many movies. The best view is on foot at the bottom of the street looking up, but we also drove the hill. Strewn throughout the curvy hill is well pedicured flowers, mainly hydrangea, which were in full bloom on our visit.
It’s not often you get to see curvy streets like these, especially when it’s on a down hill, mind you, it’s a one way street. The area here is pretty nice, but exercise some patience, it can get crowded at times, especially when people block your way and don’t know how to move. When we drove the hill there was so much traffic over Memorial Day that the city posted traffic officers at the top and bottom of the hill.
If you’re visiting, be sure to check this street out. If you plan on driving on this street, drive SLOW and assume it will take about 30+ minutes.

Beautiful views from the top of this super popular street. If you have a car visit at night when there is nobody around and drive down the winding road!
Definitely a must visit if you are in San Francisco!

It was a nice quick experience to come see it and take pictures. This place is packed with tourists so be prepared to wait in line if you want to drive through it. We opted out and just settled with pictures.
I would check it out if your in the area.

I’ve been on a lot of roads but this one just doesn’t compare to most. First, it’s too curvy. I couldn’t believe how challenging it was to crank the wheel to the right, and then immediately to the left. Even with the aid of modern technology like power steering I found it a chore to steer. Heck, the curves can’t even turn one direction like NASCAR!
Second, it’s too steep. I had to ride the brakes all the way down. There wasn’t even a chance to get the tachometer over 1500 RPMs or get out of first gear.
Last, there are way too many people. They act like this is some sort of tourist attraction or something.
Avoid this road. With the millions of miles of roads in this country you should be able to find a straighter, flatter, and faster one.

Too much of a tourist trap in San Francisco, and especially to the point where it puts people’s lives in danger. There are actual residents who live in the houses along this «crooked street», and I sometimes wonder how they manage to put up with this traffic every single day. No question that this is a really beautiful street along with its gardens, which are very well maintained. But if you are driving on the street, please go extremely slowly and watch out for people who may be wandering on the pavement trying to get selfies and photos of each other while putting themselves in danger. Seriously, there is no reason to rush downhill as if there is no tomorrow!
There are too many people that gather at the base of the hill and essentially block cars from getting through. I understand it’s a very scenic view, but people have to learn to get out of the way when a vehicle is about to pass through. Lombard Street gets crowded in a hurry by early morning and stays that way all day. There needs to be some kind of traffic enforcement or crowd control before someone gets hurt (if it hasn’t happened already!).

First time driving down: I was with some friends showing them the city — now normally at the time my brakes squeaked for the smallest fraction of a second as I just started to brake… but here my brakes responded differently. I had to ride them all the way down and at this odd late night hour I’m sure I woke up the whole neighborhood. It was embarrassing. I look back now and perhaps its part of the reason I attend to possible brake issues sooner rather than later.
This is a real tourist attraction. During the days — especially now when people from all over the world are traveling — this place is packed. Don’t dare stop near the top to snap a photo out the window or drop your friends off while momentarily blocking traffic… Traffic enforcement will yell at you.
A beautiful place for a photo opportunity. Beautiful and well recognized street combined with a view of the city. Take a little extra time to go out this way but make sure your brakes can handle being ridden all the way down without having your presence announced to the whole neighborhood.

On a recent visit to San Francisco, I found myself here at Lombard Street… once on purpose and once by accident. Though the Powell-​Hyde cable car drops passengers off at the crest of this Russian Hill area to partake in this tourist attraction, I relied on my own man-​power to trek purposefully up the steep grade of this street for a few obligatory photos. If you choose to walk, be sure to wear appropriate, non-​skid footwear to safely gain access.
This one-​block, eight-​hairpin-​turn section of Lombard Street, created in the 1920’s to accommodate cars that could not maneuver the original 27% grade, is a picaresque sight for any tourist. I particularly enjoyed the view from the bottom of the block, taking in views of the shrubbery and hydrangeas not yet in bloom (April) as well as sweeping views of East SF and Coit Tower. Tourists were abound, standing in the middle of the street, selfie sticks and all, to gain their coveted photos. Traffic police in the area did well to keep the cars moving down winding road as well as manage some of the more obstinate tourists who would not move for the cars trying to pass by.
My second unintentional visit occurred while following a GPS to get back to my hotel. Driving through the turns of this block was certainly an experience, but I am glad I had the opportunity to spend some time walking around and taking in the sights prior to. The posted 5mph sign was strictly followed mostly due to the crowds that slow traffic. I did marvel at the skill it must take for residents of this area to turn into their driveways from these curves.
I’m glad I had the opportunity to check out this famed sight of San Francisco but having seen it now, would probably pass by on future visits to the city. A perfect once-​and-​done kind of activity for the SF tourist.

This street is crazy!
For sure something that has to be seen, there is really no street like it.
Actually I don’t know any city quite as hilly as San Francisco and there are a ton of crazy steep streets, but this is really something else.
Very busy and overloaded with tourists this might be better to walk that drive through, we did both and it was a fun short stop during our vacation here.

She’s Got Curves And She Knows How To Use Them …
I’ve walked, and drove down this street many times through the years.
It’s definitely a tourist destination with hordes of people.
Once you reach the bottom, if you continue forward a block more to Jones St., there’s an apartment building on the corner, left hand side, that was used in Alfred Hitchcock’s film, Vertigo, 1958.
The main protagonist in the film, Scottie, played by Jimmy Stewart, lived in the bottom apartment. (900 Lombard St.)
In recent years the new owners built a wall in front of the building, and painted over the brick fireplace to keep out tourists. It looks very different then it did in the film. They ruined it for film buffs and fans of 50’s
Architecture.
Anyways… there’s a dispute over which is crookedest street in San Francisco. We have the famous Lombard St. In Russian Hill, V Vermont St. in Potrero Hill.
Vermont, while steeper than Lombard, has fewer turns.
Lombard is the more famous, prettier sister to Vermont.
I’ve been to both and I think Vermont is the winner !
You should visit both and decide for yourself.

Stunningly Beautiful Views From the Top of This Unique and Curvy Street! Worth a Visit — Go Early in the AM to Beat the Crowds.
My mother and I visited the famous Lombard Street during the early morning of July 31^st.
We were riding the Powell-​Mason cable car and decided to hop off to check out Lombard Street. The Powell-​Hyde cable car also stops here, but at the top of the street, while Powell-​Mason stops at the bottom. The street is also easily accessible via MUNI bus (which is the cheaper and faster option, if you are not looking to experience the cable cars).
Lombard Street is one of the most crooked streets in the world. From where the cable car dropped us off, we hiked uphill on Lombard Street until we arrived at the base of the curvy section. There were huge and gorgeous flowers blooming along with lush vegetation growing in between the curves of the street. The street was lined on both sides with beautiful houses. There was a sidewalk with steps on both sides of the street which made it easier for walking up this very steep hill!
We arrived early in the morning to Lombard Street, at around 7 AM, which meant that there was nobody else there and we had the entire street to ourselves. It was lovely and the atmosphere was very peaceful, quiet, and relaxing, which I enjoyed (I very much dislike crowds of people). I highly recommend coming here early in the morning as well if you would like to avoid the throngs of people and crowds that would be there later in the morning and afternoon.
After climbing to the top of Lombard, I was amazed at how high we were and we were rewarded with such incredible and beautiful views of the city! I could see Coit Tower, the downtown area, the bay and more. The photo opportunities from here were amazing.
We enjoyed the views at the top of Lombard for a little while before catching the Powell-​Hyde cable car from the top of the hill, going towards Fisherman’s Wharf.
Lombard Street may be popular but despite it being a huge tourist attraction, it was worth the visit for me!

We were lucky to have a fairly short line to drive down the street. View from the bottom is better though! Watch out for tourists lining the roads.

We didn’t drive it (who would do this on purpose?) but we did stop at the bottom for photos. There’s no easy way to get here except by walking, taxi or other car. Though the Powell-​Hyde streetcar stops at the top of Lombard Street, the better pictures are at the bottom.
Major tourist attraction. Be on the lookout for out-​of-​control selfie sticks.

OMG I LOVED driving down this crooked road in the car. It’s short– takes like 5 min to drive in but it’s SO crooked I thought it was hilarious to drive down. The people in my car were scared of heights so it was 1000x funnier when they’re screaming as we drive down.
Tons of people taking pics from the bottom and you can see them as you drive them. One way street down. Super narrow and sharp turns. Never seen anything like this before.
First time tourists in SF– Drive down at least once. It’s crazy to me how crooked this street is. There’s also a couple like 90 degree hills near it… seriously thought I was on a roller coaster ride.

Lombard Street is the most famous one way street in San Francisco due to its incredibly crooked path. There are eight sharp and narrow turns that are said to make it the most crooked street in the world! The street is closed to public transportation, so the only way to drive crooked is to do it yourself (or an Über… but let’s keep that one on the down low, lol). If you do not have access to a car you can easily visit because there is a Cable Car stop at the top of the street, making it easy for visitors to access the street. You can easily walk down some of the stairs that follow the same crazy path as the road. For those driving be advised that there are private driveways and garages at each turn, so please be respectful of those that live this crooked life daily.
Overall I recommend making a stop to take in the most crooked street in the world, it’s an interesting experience and the view from the top is actually quite nice, almost as good as the view looking up at the crazy turns!

Aside from the Golden Gate Bridge, Lombard Street with a view of Coit Tower is yet another iconic view of San Francisco! From the top of the flower-​adorned hairpin turns, you can see a whole stretch of eastern SF with the Coit Tower towering over the landscape. This is simply a cool sight to stop by a see, so either park a few blocks away to continue on foot… or brave through a series of hairpin turns!
But please, don’t be an obnoxious tourist by standing in the middle of the road: P

I mean yeah it’s something to see to say you’ve seen it… But really it’s just a very curvy street. There are sh*t tons of people there during the day doing the tourist thing and taking pictures. I actually feel (only slightly) bad for the rich folks that live here because, ya know, privacy! But then again… you were probably well aware what you were getting yourself into when you bought a house on one of the the most famous streets in America.
Here’s a tip: there are better photo ops at the intersection below the curves.

A crooked street that resembles a playground slide for cars and lined with flowers? I am so there!!!
I had a lot of fun on Lombard Street watching all of the vehicles struggle to travel from one end of the street to the other. I was lucky enough to witness a procession of motorcycles trying to make their descent down Lombard Street. Unfortunately, not all of the motorcycles were successful in riding down the street without tipping over.
Not only was it an amusing sight to observe all of the cars driving down the street, it was also a great way to exercise for pedestrians like me! It was quite an incline, running up and down along Lombard street. Highly recommend!

I had to come here during my visit, it’s such a landmark of San Fran. Generally, driving in San Fran is such an interesting experience, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Lombard st. doubles the fun with all the beauty. So jealous of people who live here lol.

Most any travel guide will tell you this is a must do. And it was so fun to experience this street that over the course of one block you will encounter 8 hairpin turns and extremely windy turns down a sharp downhill.
It was designed by Carl Henry and built in 1922. It’s original intent was to reduce the hill’s natural 27% grade which was too steep for most vehicles. It is a one-​way street going downhill and is paved with red bricks.
If you have a car — drive it! Or take the cable car that stops at the top of the hill.

Googling famous attractions in SF will result in Lombard street for some of the top ten spots.
I thought it would be funny for my auntie Tracy (cute little Jewish lady who is very loud and vocal) to drive through Lombard street since she is known for her impeccable driving, as evidenced by my grandma who holds on to the handles on the roof of the car whenever Tracy is driving. You always wear your seatbelt Shen Tracy drives!
It was stop and go all along the path, not because of traffic, but because it was steep, winding, and narrow. We picked the perfect person to drive! The things that flew out her mouth, hilarious! Obscenities, curse words, dry humor and such! Including the fact that some gardener was trimming the bushes along the narrow winding path of Lombard street. Seriously?! Who does that?! Gardener, you cray!!!
There are tons of tourists on top of the hill and beneath it, marveling at its voluptuous curves.
If we had more time, we would have taken turns driving down Lombard street. Who can get down the fastest?! Haha

For tourists, there is some odd fascination with this winding road and somehow I’ve bought into it twice in my life. Shame on me.
We love things that just look … unique. There are probably hundreds of winding roads in America, but this one apparently stands out from the rest. Well, for one thing, I guess it’s extremely well kept. There are small gardens that surround the winding brick road and when there are hundreds of people standing around taking pictures of it, we feel the urge to do the same. Many people tend to drive down it, but for me, that wasn’t worth the torture of waiting in line to do so on those oh so steep roads that make me feel like I’m going up a roller coaster at less than 1 mile per hour.
My recommendation —- visit Lombard Street, but drive there and park on a nearby street. Don’t waste your time driving down it. Get out of your vehicle, snap your photos from the top, sides and, preferably at the best angle, the bottom of the winding road, then leave because there isn’t much else to see here. There will definitely be some detractors, but if you’re a first timer in San Francisco, I think it’s worth giving a 30 minute visit.

I loved the drive down, each turn more exciting then the last. Definitely a must if your here!

We were at Ghirardelli Square and knew Lombard was a few blocks away so decided to walk. The walk is a few blocks uphill but it’s not bad. We saw the cable car and taxis around. When we arrived, there was a long line to drive down. There were lots of people around taking photos from the start of the street.
We took a few photos and made our way down the path. We stopped at a few places to take photos and it wasn’t too crowded so we could get decent shots. It’s lovely with the flowers planted along the street. Walking down the street, you can see the entrances to the homes and also the car parked in the driveways. I would think it’s a pain living here to wait a long time to get on the street to get home.
The bottom of the street was busier than the top with lots of people taking photos. Good thing the streets around aren’t very busy so people can stand in the middle and take photos. Lombard Street is a place to see once but not somewhere I’ll need to visit again next time.
After, we walked up and down the streets to our hotel on Sutter and it took close to half an hour.

Crooked & cool! Actually Lombard Street is the most crooked street in the world with its 8 sharp hair pin turns. This is cool to walk but an adventure to drive!
It is not accessible to public transportation or shuttles so don’t expect to get through this maze on a tour, cable car or bus.
Do it the old fashioned way… throw the kiddos in the car, let the windows down, and slow roll through this beautifully landscaped puzzle of a street.

Lombard Street in San Francisco is known as «the crookedest street in the world.» It is an iconic landmark in the city that I have been looking forward to visit ever since I watched Princess Diaries in middle school. Luckily my friend’s apartment was only a 15 minute walk away so this was one of the first places I visited during my trip to San Francisco!
The street looks exactly how you see it in movies and in pictures. We started at the top of the hill, where you get an amazing view of the bay, and worked our way to the bottom, where you get a great view of the crooked street. The viewing at the bottom on Leavenworth Street is perfect for getting pictures up the hill its unique zig zag lines. The landscaping was beautiful, overflowing with beautiful flowers and colors. The houses were gorgeous, but I still can’t believe that people actually live on this street — there are tourists all day every day and cars constantly coming through.
I also discovered just how unfit I was walking up to this street, but it so worth the effort. The best photos are taken from the bottom, looking up the street. It’s also entertaining to see the cars and segways trying to come down the crooked street.

I went here on one of my trip to San Francisco for the obligatory Lombard Street visit.
I don’t know what made this place one of the «Must See’s» of SF besides the fact it is a crooked street. But I guess without fail, I fell for it. So I must still promote and tell you to go here because of 2 TRUE facts that I believe:
1. You get to take some really awesome photos in front of a world famous street in San Francisco.
2. You can drive down this really awesome street. (Even though the drive is pretty short)

I’ve been here a couple times — always taking my friends who had never been here before and it was always a good experience.
Parking was hard to find. There was parking both from the top of the street to the bottom. If you are parking, make sure to park correctly! If you’re parking uphill, just remember to face your wheels and think up, up, and away (from the curb).
Overall, this place didn’t get too crowded but it could. There was one time when I went and there was way too many people and just decided to pass by it. Driving on this street was fun in my opinion. Not everyone could say that they’ve driven on the steepest street in the USA!
I’ve always appreciated the architecture of San Francisco homes. There were some beautiful homes on this street. There was one particular one that I thought was beautiful with purple flowers growing on it. If you go here, I’m sure you’ll know exactly what I was talking about.
This was definitely a landmark you have to experience!

First time here! Pretty awesome overall. VERY touristy and busy so prepare yourself for rude behavior, lots of foreigners and tourists, selfie sticks & GoPros in the eye, no or very little concept of patience and common courtesy and you should be all good.
Brick road and stairs are very well maintained it is super easy getting around. Parking officials are there at most times of the day to direct foot and car traffic properly and maintain order with a side of chaos.

Lombard Street and Gardens are a true landmark in San Francisco that you can’t miss.
We walked up from Fisherman’s Wharf and it’s somewhat of a feat just getting there. Obviously many people love driving down this crooked pathway. Just a tip~ if you’re driving there is somewhat of a backup to go down. The cable car stops directly in the center creating a road block for traffic. Obviously it’s worth the wait or walk for a beautiful view to experience Lombard.
There are sidewalks down each side as it is a residential area. The ‘Gardens’ are absolutely gorgeous. Garden wedges creating the winding curve are filled with blooming flowers. Make this a stop you won’t regret.

Die Kurvenreichste Straße der Welt sollte man sich unbedingt ansehen, hier versammeln sich zahlreicje Touristen aus der Ganzen Welt. Ganz oben an der Lombart Street stehen die Autos schlange um einmal diese Straße runtefahren zu können. PS: von ganz oben kann man Super Fotos von San Francisco schießen.

Ah Lombard Street !
Alors ouais, c’est joli, ça fait quand même partie des incontournables de San Francisco, cette très jolie rue avec les 8 virages tout en descente.
Elle est superbement fleurie (en tout cas en été, quand j’y suis allée, elle l’était), et le décor avec les maisons est vraiment mignon.
Après il faut se dire que ça reste… une rue quoi: D
Mais en allant en haut, vous pourrez avoir un point de vue magnifique !
Egalement, du fait d’être la rue la plus sinueuse des US et de ce fait, d’être connue partout dans le monde, elle est forcément …blindée !
Je vous recommande d’y aller très tôt le matin, il n’y a vraiment pas grand monde !

Einer der klassischen Touri Sports, die Serpentinen mitten in der Stadt, hübsch mit Blümchen. Touristen stapfen die Treppen links und recht rauf und runter, und noch mehr Touristen fahren mit dicken Autos die Straße runter. Nur runter, Einbahnstraße. Am besten aber sind die Verkehrsregler. Unten steht einer mit etwa 4 Zentner Lebendgewicht, der mit viel Herumrufen und Armewedeln versucht, die orientierungslosen Touristen zu Fuß und im Auto aneinander vorbeizujonglieren. Klappt sogar und ist die eigentliche Attraktion der Lombard-​Street. Er ist dabei sehr unentspannt, springt planlos herum, ruft laut und winkt wirr, aber das gehört bestimmt zur Show. Mir hats gut gefallen.
Der nächste Aufpasser steht auf halber Höhe und ermahnt Autofahrer, doch bitte während des Herunterfahrens nicht selber zu knipsen, die Gopro-​Kamera nicht selber aus dem Schiebedach zu halten, sondern sie der Beifahrerin zu geben. Die hatte aber schon 2 Kameras in der Hand. Wie übrigens absolut jeder, diese Straße betritt oder entlangrollt. Drive-​by-​multiknips aus jedem einzelnen Auto und jedem einzelnen Fenster (inklusive Fahrer, wie glaube ich nicht mehr betont werden muss). Das müssen hunderte von Fotos jede Minute sein. Wäre interessant, das mal auf den Tag hochzurechnen.
Oben rollen die Cable-​Cars vorbei und bringen immer frischen Touri-​Nachschub. Und dazwischen wieder zwei Verkehrsregler. Die versuchen, die endlose Schlange von Autos, die darauf warten, die Lombard Street runterzurollen (schätze etwa 500 — 800 Meter) so zu lenken, dass sie nicht ständig die Gleise vollstellen. Klappt ganz gut, und die beiden Jungs mit den signalgelben Westen hatten jede Menge Spaß. Ich glaube, sie haben ein Spiel gespielt, auf Rekordjagd nach dem dusseligsten Autofahrer und dem überfülltesten Cable Cars. Mir hats auch Spaß gemacht, den beiden zuzugucken. Schwer zu sagen, ob die Show am oberen oder unteren Ende besser war.
Man muss unbedingt tagsüber kommen und möglichst am Wochenende, wenn die Touri-​Massen hereinbranden, sonst verpasst man womöglich die eigentliche Attraktion, das sind die Verkehrsregler an der Lombard Street, am Russian Hill.

Una de las fotos obligadas si vienes de visita a San Francisco, y es que esta calle es de las más famosas de San Francisco, ¡no se en cuantas pelis sale! La verdad es que solo es una calle, nada más, pero el trozo del zig-​zag lleno de plantas (que por cierto están muy cuidadas), queda en la parte más alta de la calle, por lo que tiene buenas vistas (de parte de la ciudad y del mar).
Yo me subí en el tranvía (cable car) que pasa justo por allí y salté para hacerme la mítica foto. Eso sí, con una vez que vayas es suficiente.

Der bepflanzte Teil der Lombard str. ist erstens eine wunderbare Idee und zweitens ein Muss für jede Frisco Touristen. Wenn alles in voller Blütenpracht steht gehen einem fast die Augen über.
Hier herscht reger Verkehr weil viele die serpentinen einmal mit dem auto hinunter fahren und dabei filmen oder forografieren. Das verursacht einen Dauerstau. Ist völlig überflüssig.
Meiner Ansicht nach ist es aber viel schöner und entspannter die straße hoch zu laufen und dabei alles auf sich wirken zu lassen.

Es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall, bei einem San Francisco-​Besuch auch dem berühmten Abschnitt der Lombard-​Street einen Besuch abzustatten. Wenn man ebenfalls zur Fisherman’s Wharf möchte, lässt sich das sehr gut verbinden. Ich bin mit dem Cable Car vom Zentrum Richtung Norden gefahren und bin direkt auf dem oberen Abschnitt der Lombard-​Street ausgestiegen. Es macht natürlich keinen Sinn sie nur von oben zu sehen, und so bin ich ca. 5 min nach unten gelaufen, von wo aus man dann den berühmten Blick hat. Die Straße war sehr schön mit Hortensien bepflanzt. Es ist schon lustig zu sehen, wie sich die Autos um die engen Kurven quälen. Anschließend bin ich zu Fuß zur Fisherman’s Wharf gelaufen, ist gut machbar und kann man nicht verfehlen, da man einfach Richtung Meer läuft und es ging auch nicht mehr bergauf.

natürlich haben wir uns die Straße runter rollen lassen :) Sehr schöné Straße mit den Blumenbeeten. Mein Mitleid gilt den Anwohnern

richtig tolle ablaufstrecke, wo man morgens bestens frühstücken und abends prächtig dinieren kann. wenn man fotos machen will, also diese besonders aussagekräftigen über eine ganz herrliche und abwechslungsreiche stadt, dann auf und von der lombard street!

Tolle, mit herrlichen Blumen geschmückte Straße, die in engen Serpentinen den Russian Hill herunter führt. Wir waren am Samstag zum gucken dort, es reiht sich am Wochenende wirklich ein Auto an das andere Mir tun die Anwohner leid. Unten stehen tausend Touris mit Fotoapparaten und Kameras und stellen sich immer wieder ins Bild ;-)
Wir haben uns den Spaß dort selber runterzufahren am Montag gegönnt. Kaum Gaffer und Autos. ;-)

Sehr interessante Strasse direkt durch San Francisco. Die Strasse ist auf den ersten Blick eher unscheinbar, hat man sie aber erstmal gefunden ist es echt erstaunlich wie dort Autos herunterkommen :). Wenn die Möglichkeit besteht mit dem Auto herunterfahren oder die Treppe auf der rechten Seite als Fussgänger nutzen.

Die Lombard Street in San Francisco, Kalifornien, USA, verläuft teilweise als US Highway 101, ist Zubringer zur Golden Gate Bridge und eine der wichtigsten Verkehrsachsen der Stadt. Bekannt geworden ist die Lombard Street jedoch als kurvenreichste Straße der Welt.
Die Lombard Street verläuft vom Presidio bis zum Telegraph Hill quer durch San Francisco. Der berühmte Teil der Straße liegt auf dem Russian Hill und erstreckt sich über lediglich einen Block zwischen Hyde Street und Leavenworth Street. An dieser Stelle war sie eine der steilsten Straßen der Stadt mit einem Gefälle von 27%, was für viele Autos und auch Fußgänger problematisch war. Daher wurde sie 1923 in Serpentinenform als Einbahnstraße (bergabführend) umgebaut. Die nur zwei Blocks entfernt liegende Filbert Street hat sogar ein Gefälle von 31,5%, wurde aber nicht entschärft und konnte so in zahlreichen Filmen (Bullitt) als Sprungschanze dienen.
Die gepflasterte Straße besteht nun auf einer Distanz von nur ca. 145 Metern aus acht Kurven, zählt man die Kurven am Anfang und Ende mit, sogar aus zehn. Den Titel kurvenreichste Straße der Welt verdient sie allerdings nicht. Die Vermont Street im Stadtteil Potrero Hill besitzt auf ca. 85 Metern Distanz 5 Kurven, ist allerdings weniger attraktiv und mehr abseits der touristischen Zentren der Stadt gelegen.
Der attraktiv gestaltete Straßenabschnitt zählt heute zu den beliebtesten Fotomotiven der Stadt und wird hauptsächlich von Touristen benutzt, die den ‘Slalomkurs’ einmal durchfahren möchten. Für Fußgänger verläuft seitlich eine Treppe. (Wikipedia)
ein weiteres muss in san francisco. wir sind leider nicht selbst mit einem Auto runter gefahren, fanden es aber trotzdem lustig wie alle die sraße runter gefahren sind. teilweise lehnten sich touristen aus dem fenster und filmten wie sie runter gefahren sind :) ansonsten war es super schön die treppe hoch zu steigen und die ganzen blumen am straßenrand zu sehen.

Meine amerikanischen Freunde haben mir diese Straße einmal gezeigt bzw. sie sind mit mir diese Straße hinunter gefahren. Ich kan nur sagen: geil, geil, geil!
Das ist wie auf dem Hamburger DOM, nur dass man dafür nichts bezahlen muss.
Wenn man in SF ist, muss man dort unbedingt einmal hin!

Bevor ich nach San Francisco geflogen bin, las ich den Namen Lombard Street. Ich wusste, dass ich ihn schon einmal gehört hatte, aber ich wusste nicht mehr, in welchem Zusammenhang. Der Reiseführer verriet dann, warum mir der Name bekannt vor kam: die Lombard Street ist eine der kurvenreichsten und steilsten Strassen der Welt, aber nicht die kurvenreichste, wie viele Leute denken.
Sie ist deshalb so kurvenreich, da die Steigung 27% beträgt und Autos nur schwer normal herunterfahren können. Daher hat man einfach die Kurven eingebaut. Sie ist eine Einbahnstraße und wenn man dort selbst entlang fahren will, sollte man vorsichtig und langsam um die Kurven fahren.
Erreichen kann man die Lombard Street am einfachsten mit dem Cable Car. Die Linie Powell-​Hyde Street hält direkt am Anfang der Lombard Street. Man sieht sie schon aus dem Cable Car. Zudem sagen die Fahrer den Halt auch an. Die Lombard Street ist eigentlich eine lange Strasse, der sehenswerte Teil befindet sich zwischen der Hyde Street und der Leavenworth Street. Nicht weit von hier befindet sich auch der Coit Tower.
Es ist alleine lohnenswert, hierhin zu fahren, da man von hier einen schönen Blick auf den ganzen Verlauf der Lombard Street hat. Nachdem sie nämlich hinab geht, geht sie auch wieder steil hinauf. Die Strecke kann man auf sich nehmen, wenn man auf den Coit Tower hinauf möchte. Am oberen Ende der Lombard Street kann man schön Fotos machen. Ich fand es jedoch etwas unspektakulär und hatte sie mir etwas schöner vorgestellt. Die Strasse ist rot gepflastert. Die Serpentinen sind umgeben von Blumenbeeten und niedrigen Büschen. Im Sommer sieht dies bestimmt schöner aus. Im Februar waren noch nicht so viele Blumen zu sehen.
Links und rechts gehen dann Treppen für Fussgänger hinunter. Viel los war im Februar nicht, aber es fuhren schon einige Autos die Strasse hinunter. Im Sommer ist dort vermutlich Einiges los.
Sehr lang ist der bekannte Teil der Strasse nicht und man kann recht einfach die flachen Stufen hinunter laufen und ein paar Fotos machen. Entweder, man läuft dann weiter Richtung Coit Tower oder man geht zurück zum Cable Car. Die Linie fährt bis zur Market Street, also mitten durch die Innenstadt oder bis zum Fisherman’s Wharf.
Ein Besuch der Lombard Street ist nicht wirklich spektakulär, aber wer Zeit hat, der sollte einfach mal hier kurz Aussteigen und man kann dann ja problemlos wieder in das Cable Car einsteigen. Oder auch gleich weiter zum Coit Tower. Aber noch besser: einfach mal selbst die Strasse entlang fahren wenn man einen Mietwagen hat!
