I was referred to jonah by my college classmate to represent me for a hit and run case. The case last for a year! Whenever I have a questions for Jonah, he would respond within 24hrs. Extremely responsive. Not only that, he’s very knowledgeable, and know exactly what works the best for his client. He has the patience to explain thr whole process with me. For my case, he would explain whats coming from the insurance amd what to expect. Very very helpful. Everything is transparent. If you ever need a great attorney on your side, I would highly recommend Mr. Jonah Chew as that attorney. I was in an accident that ultimately resulted in me being charged with a DUI. Like most people I immediately scoured the internet looking for a good attorney. I came across several and attended a few consultations, including one with a «high-​powered» attorney from Harvard. Let me tell you that once I met with Jonah I was completely put at ease. His friendly demeanor and knowledge of the process helped to ease my anxiety.
At the consultation with Jonah he already had a plan of attack on how to minimize the damage that would be inflicted by the court. Additionally, he was willing to work out a payment plan to help ease the financial cost. During the process I had doubts, because you always want to make sure you hired the right attorney to give you the best opportunity against the system and upon consulting with other attorneys they had nothing but high praise for Jonah Chew and his ability. In fact, I was informed that they actually sit on a DUI council/​board with Jonah for Bay Area attorneys and assured me that I couldn’t find a more tenacious, respected and knowledgeable attorney about DUI law. During the process Jonah always answered my communications quickly, I had many as I was anxious about the case, and did everything to put me at ease in understanding the process.
When the process started, and it was long (about 3 years), Jonah had me proactively start programs (Kaiser, DUI program, AA) in order to show that I was serious about correcting my problem. Additionally, he filed a motion to suppress the blood draw that was done in my case and this is when I got my first glimpse of Jonah in action. The day I attended court for his Jonah again with his friendly demeanor helped to put me at ease — I was very nervous going in front of the judge, DA and the arresting officer. Jonah completely picked the arresting officer apart and actually caught him lying on the stand. My motion to suppress was granted and their blood draw was thrown out — a huge blow to the DA’s case. Upon completion the DA filed a motion to appeal the decision and Jonah put me in contact with a great appellate attorney who won that for me as well.
After the motion to suppress hearing and the appeal process Jonah continually attended court appearances to complete the process only to have it pushed to later dates each time. This was a very long process and Jonah kept me informed of all court dates and activities in a timely manner. I figured this was the courts attempt to try and punish me without being able to punish me because Jonah had gotten their evidence (the blood draw) thrown out. Then there came that miraculous day when Jonah informed me that he had gotten my case dismissed with double jeopardy attached so that the DA could not re-​file the case.
This was one of the happiest days of my life. I had gone through a three year process with the court, with a lot of anxiety along the way, only to have everything dropped. I can’t tell you what this meant to me and my family who had to endure this process with me; I really couldn’t believe it when Jonah informed me of the decision. He wasn’t even scheduled to go back to court yet, as the court had pushed the issue out yet again, and he got this done.
If any of you have a chance to read my review, let me tell you that you ABSOLUTELY cannot go wrong with hiring Mr. Jonah Chew. If you want someone who is knowledgeable, responsive, caring, well respected in the courtroom and can deliver results then Jonah is your attorney. I read all the reviews about him before hiring him and though that some of those people had «one-​offs» type of experiences, but I can attest that everything said about Jonah is 100% true and accurate. If anyone I know is EVER in need of an attorney I would not hesitate without a second to refer them to Jonah.

I was referred to Jonah from my auntie, that auntie is getting a nice gift for Christmas. I’ve had a few meetings with other lawyers, but none were as confident and knowledgeable as Jonah. He was more than willing to make it work with me payment wise since I’m also a full time student.
My case was a DUI, but marijuana related. I went through a checkpoint after work, and was stopped because my car «smelled». I passed the sobriety tests, but they also measured my pulse. Who’s pulse wouldn’t increase with 10 cops and a bunch of bright lights around you? My car was towed, and I was arrested. I was completely sober the whole time I was detained.
As soon as I hired Jonah, he immediately faxed the DMV to contest since my license was taken. After a few long business days, I got mail from the DMV saying that I can get my license! My arraignment was postponed because Jonah met with the DA prior. After being anxious waiting for the results, I eventually get mail saying everything was dropped. Jonah was amazing and very informative the whole time, making you feel comfortable about everything. You get way more than what you pay for.

Jonah, is a very honest attorney he helps you understand the law from the other side. He always on time at court and your emails and phones calls get return promptly. My son was facing a very serious situation but he came out on top with the help of one of best lawyers in San Francisco.

Jonah is good enough to be Saul Goodman’s daddy. Very professional and friendly, he is busy but takes time to keep you updated on your case. Always gets back to you quick. From January 2012 to May 2015 I had been fighting an incredibly serious case in which (up until September 2014) could have put me in prison for my ENTIRE LIFE without the possibility of parole. My case was one for the textbooks, a wrongful accusation of a heinous and violent crime that I had nothing to do with, simply in the wrong place, at the wrong time, with the wrong person. I am a UC Berkeley Graduate and ordained pastor whose integrity and freedom was put on trial (literally) for many years. Over this three and a half year process, I endured a painstakingly inadequate investigation on the part of the prosecution who ignored even some of the most obvious inconsistencies in their version of the story, even when the true perpetrator was handed over to the court on a silver platter, our witness testimonies and hard evidence were largely ignored. In the first 2 years of this trial I went through two other lawyers who did little in terms of advancing my case and I spent enough legal fees that could have been a sizable down payment on a house. Once Jonah was brought into my case in 2013 that is when we really started making positive progress. In September of 2014 Jonah successfully got the third of 3 felonies that I was being charged with dismissed reducing my potential sentence in half. Jonah handled my case with utmost attention and professionalism all the while making me feel confident in his ability to defend my innocence. I am BEYOND ecstatic to stand here and tell you that as of May 8, 2015 thanks to Jonah’s tenacity and expertise, I have been EXONERATED of all charges and have finally gotten my life back! We found Jonah through a network of people: my best friend’s lawyer friend works with someone who highly recommended Jonah.
At that point, I had already been considering between two law firms – also personally recommended to me– based in San Jose and Palo Alto, but the case we needed
a lawyer for was in San Francisco. Upon reading other reviews on Unilocal,I was convinced that having a SF-​based lawyer would be best, since he is familiar with the
court of SF, and the charges were serious.
Getting in touch with him was quite easy, although he was out of town at the time. He had an associate talk to me first, and we set up a meeting, so from there,
we were set on having Jonah be our legal representation. Even the public defender originally assigned to us had given her praise for our decision, as Jonah was also a

As busy as he is, Jonah returns emails very timely. This was valuable to me because I was anxious about the entire case, and not knowing and asking so many questions were eased by his speedy turnaround time to get back to me. Without getting into details of the case, we would like to share that Jonah was able negotiate a very good deal given the nature of the charges.

I was referred to Jonah Chew by a close friend of mine when I was arrested for a DUI. I was in a situation where I was SOL and nothing could save me (or so I thought) so I went with a public defender in an attempt to save money. But my friend vouched for Jonah; saying how he’s aggressive, doesn’t BS, and actually cares about his cases — I couldn’t say no. I reached out to him, told him about my situation, he gave me a few scenarios and realistic expectations, and I hired him shortly after.
Having Jonah defend me in my case was the best decision I ever made.
Now, I’m not going to say it was dismissed, he isn’t God. But given my situation, the fact that it was a multiple offense, and I didn’t spend a single night in jail; he’s his right hand man. I received house arrest, which is unheard of given my multiple DUI offense, and it was in San Mateo County! I almost cried when I heard it, it couldn’t have been better news. I was looking at a minimum of 4 months in jail; I could have lost my job, apartment, and my parents would have found out (Korean parents are scary).
The entire process took over a year. It was worth every penny and minute. Jonah is exceptionally great at responding to emails and answering/​returning phone calls. He’s as straightforward as it gets and will fight for you till the end. He’s known in every court house there is, so you know he isn’t a newbie still learning the ropes. And this review is as honest as it gets considering my case was over and done with since March. I get nothing out of writing a good review for him.
Oh, I also had the pleasure of working with Jonathan Roberts, who works with Jonah. He was great, too. He answered/​returned calls promptly and was always very reassuring. Jonah and Jonathan also got to know me and cared about my life outside of the court case, who can say that about their lawyers nowadays?
All in all, Jonah is hands down the best lawyer you’re going to find in the Bay Area.
I also found out he got 2 of my brother’s cases dismissed a few years back. Nothing to be proud of, pretty embarassing that we used the same lawyer, but it strengthens the fact that Jonah is seriously the best you’re going to get.

tl;dr Go with this office. You’ll feel like a human being and not a dollar sign.
I contacted the Law Offices of Jonah Chew to help out a friend who had gotten a DUI. She was considering taking the public defender and I was dead-​set against it, so I called around a bit. My conversation was with Jonathan, who’s a lawyer at the office working under Jonah.
From the start Jonathan stood out because he sounded like he wanted to help us get all the details and do what’s best for her instead of just trying to get us to pay him to take the case. He helped us submit some forms and explained the process to us before he even knew if we were going to hire him. When my friend talked of financial difficulties (even though his rate was fair vs. other offices), he was flexible and offered a payment plan.
I don’t know if my friend will end up hiring him or not, but I hope she does. Without the case even having started, I know Jonathan and his office are the kind of lawyers I would want working on my case if it were me.

Jonah is SUPER knowledgeable, AGGRESSIVE, and he knows everyone in the SF court system. Also, Jonah is always on top of returning phone calls and text messages; which I think is huge. I could go on and on about Jonah but one of my favorite things about him is how much he really cares about his clients. I don’t think I have ever come across a lawyer that cares more about his clients and what happens to them. Jonah also knows how to make a person feel comfortable and more at ease. He knew exactly when to lighten the mood and make jokes to calm my nerves.

Mr. Chew is a great attorney, I recently had him represent me. Through out the whole process he was extremely good at explaining his strategy and what was happening.
