I am mystified by some of the more negative reviews. Michelle Brodie was my attorney in a Workman’s Comp case concerning a 2013 injury that just settled. I found her to be very patient and tireless in representing me against a large insurance company. I have a Master’s Degree + and I couldn’t understand the ridiculous laws that surround a WC case. I had many, many questions and she and her staff were tireless in explaining and communicating. I really LOVED the fact that she used email a lot. I never had an inquiry go unanswered; I never found sloppy work or errors in the papers that her office supplied, and I never had to «push» them to get anything done. If a good Workman’s Comp lawyer is needed, I would recommend her without reservation.

Going trough workers compensation was the most complicated process I ever experienced .
I got injured on mid November 2013 (herniated disk l5 s1) very painful. at first the insurance company was in top of everything and I started to receive my disability check no problem, after the doctors decided that the only solution was surgery (the tried everything physical therapy, injection etc.) that’s when everything changed. I was sent a lot a forms I couldn’t understand lot of terms that the average wouldn’t know and I had 10 days to respond, then few days later I receive an offer to settle my case and the checks stop without a notice. That’s when I decided to start looking for a workers comp lawyer which was itself a task I talked to friends that had similar case but they all had different results. Most complain about lawyers not getting back to them and not knowing anything about they’re case. Then I figure there has to be a book about this and there was (cal workers comp from nolo) it explains the steps, lawyers and so on, base on the book I interview few lawyers and even with bad reviews Michelle made feel good from the start, she explain to me that the insurance was trying to close my case even when I was still injured it was a big shock to me I hired her on the spot. The only issue I had was communicating with her, I set up a phone appointment and asked her how can I easily contact her (her staff are very helpful but sometimes she wouldn’t get my messages or miscommunication)
She told me how and everything else was easy from then on.
I would highly recommend her also be specific a vague question would give you a vague answers

Michelle was my husband’s attorney representing him for over 4 years in a fairly large workers comp case. From the begining of his case we had to check and double check every document, as there were many times that we caught errors and or time limits that she and her office staff missed. We worked closely together and finally settled the case at our insistance, we simply did not have the patience or the fortitude to deal with her and her incompetent staff any longer. The final blow was when we did finally settle our case and Michelle received her rather substancial retainer, she would not take our phone calls any longer, and, after 4 years of working together, my husband received a 2 line form letter terminating the relationship, but adding that if he needed anything else in the future to «not hesitate to call»…well we did have some final questions but the door was shut and she was on to the next case. Considering the size of my husband’s case, how we virtually managed the case along with her office, and finally her large retainer, we expected more than a 2 line form letter. This office is mismanaged, understaffed with no qualified legal staff and unprofessional… when my husband’s case settled and we called michelle’s office to inquire how the funds would be dispursed, one of the members of her staff said to me «wow, that is a big check, is your husband never going to work again »? This comment was not only totally inappropriate and judgemental, but wouldn’t one assume that her legal staff would know the level of my husband’s disability? Unless you have a very small case or a lot of time to oversee your case, this is not the office for you.

I recently called this lady Michelle B, who was referred to my by a friend. I left a message yesterday around 2:40pm regarding her services as a worker compensation lawyer. So far, I have not heard from her. I find not returning phone calls very disrespectful and unprofessional. They should say in their outgoing messages they are not talking new clients, so busy people like me and others will not waste their time leaving messages. I am so fed up with these lawyers not returning calls when they say they will do it. It is rude and she is not the only one. I have called 3 others and say seemed to be related. Don’t waste your time with this person.

Hello People who are trying to find a lawyer for worker’s comp.
I have 1 hand that need surgery and now I need my 2^nd hand. Please be careful of this lawyer. She messed up my workers comp case because I had to have surgery only on one hand first and my 2^nd hand did not yet and was not really hurting much. Michelle needed and stated that I need to claim both hands now. She just says that it is much easier to do now than later. The first hand went okay, but when the second hand was hurting more as I was working more, I needed surgery for my 2^nd hand. Now, I am out of luck in receiving TTD because it has past the 5 years statue of limitation. Now, instead of receiving TTD, I had to apply for state disability awhile I am out of work during recovery.

I emailed Michelle and asked her that very question of why she insisted me to claim both hands, GUESS WHAT, she never replied to my email and to answer that question.
Now, I have to file for state disability and I will be telling my workers comp that I will not need Michelle Brodie’s service anymore. I will need to find another lawyer.
Please make sure you know what you are getting into before signing any contract with Michelle Brodie and please ask for a 2^nd opinion. Options Options!!!

I must say that I was ignorant and just listen to a person that does not know me made decisions for me. I do regret having Michelle Brodie as my Lawyer and there is always something to learn about. I will not be needing her service anymore.

I highly recommend Michelle Brody if you want to get a good settlement for a Workers Compensation case. She is an excellent attorney who is very knowledgeable in the complexities of the WC system and processes. Every time she has met with me she listened to my issues and concerns, answered all my questions and thoroughly explained my options in terms of financial and treatment benefits. Michelle also referred me to an excellent pain management doctor which was a huge improvement from the doctor I had when I came to her. Through an appeal process she was able to negotiate a settlement that included 4 times the amount that the insurance company originally offered and lifetime medical benefits. Her fees are reasonable given her expertise, time spent on my case, and the excellent settlement she negotiated. Michelle has insured that i will have a much better financial and medical care future than I would have had had I not been represented by her.

I would give Ms. Brodie and her staff –5 stars if possible first I explained if I filed my workmen’s comp suit I would be facing an uphill battle because of the amount of money my former employer has and the fact he was a retired personal injury attorney. Ms. Brodie secretary Camille assured me that Ms. Brodie would take my case if I filed. I filed and have had private investigator’s speak to my landlord and follow me to my jobsite (I work in construction). Ms. Brodie’s secretary made an appointment for me when I showed up after a month of waiting she said I didn’t have an appointment. I left my paperwork and wasn’t even given a phone call to say she wouldn’t take the case and was told after two months three if you count waiting for the appointment my case was complicated. I think most of these reviews were written by her staff and she isn’t a very good attorney because I had an excellent case. She only wants cases that are easy to win because she can take a lot of them at one time. Bottom line find another attorney

I struggled on my own for a year in the Workman’s Comp system without a lawyer before finding Michelle. Don’t repeat my mistake! Hire Michelle from the start. You are no match for the insurance company machine. You could be a rocket scientist or Mother Theresa. Neither distinction will keep you from being screwed on your own. Even with Michelle’s help, I was often frustrated and confused with the process. But in the end, Michelle worked to get me a very fair settlement and helped me get my life back to normal. She’s no bullshit. And really knows her stuff.

Mrs. Brodie was highly recommended to me by my personal friend who is also an attorney and I am thankful that he did. She is very knowledgeable and efficient, she responds to all emails and acts quickly. I feel well represented and if you ever need a worker’s compensation lawyer, she is the one!

First of all, if you find yourself being funneled down the Workman’s Comp road, GET A LAWYER! Not matter how much you like or trust your employer, you cannot trust the clinics and medical practices that are associated with insurance companies. They will limit your care.
I waited much too long to get a lawyer… I finally got one when US Healthworks tried to discontinue my care (declare me permanent and stationary), even though I still couldn’t move my arm, let alone work. So, I got a lawyer (one of those bigger firms) and they switched all my doctors. The first thing my new doctors told me was that I should be filing for temporary disability. My first lawyer, however, told me to wait until settlement time. This was very bad advice, and thankfully my new doctors, who had my best interests at heart, told me that.
At that point, I found Michelle, 9 months or so into my experience with Workman’s Comp. She agreed to take my case and followed up immediately; I received a check for TDD within approx 6 weeks of her taking on my case. And at settlement, Michelle was able to ensure I received an amount that more than covered any future medical needs. All in all, I am very relieved and happy with the outcome of my case — but only thanks to Michelle.
As others have mentioned, she is also remarkably available; she responds to all emails, herself, very promptly, and answered all my questions with clear and detailed answers. Her staff also communicates well, and I really appreciated their efficiency and professionalism.
Do yourself the following favors: 1) get a lawyer immediately, 2) avoid the big firms who make big promises but who won’t have time for you and 3) hire Michelle to represent you. I couldn’t recommend Michelle Brodie any more highly.

Without a lot of loquacious self promoting lip service that eats up your time and your patience, Michelle Brodie is an attorney who will take care of your business efficiently and effectively. My dad’s settlement ended being double from what he expected and approximately $ 9,000 higher due to some quick minded lawyering by Ms. Brodie on settlement day. Michelle Brodie is the best Workman’s Compensation attorney in the entire state of California. I was injured in a construction accident and my knee was destroyed. I was being jerked around by the biggest insurance giant in the world (AIG) who I might add, have the deepest pockets. I hired Michelle Brodie and that was it! The main pro to Michelle Brodie’s practice is that it’s easy to get ahold of her. She literally answered my email questions within minutes, every time. She also seems quite experienced in this realm of the law and her office was able to schedule me with minimal notice.
On the downside, she’s located in the city (not convenient for me) and on the busiest street. It was a bit of a logistical nightmare to secure handicapped parking at the time of day my appointment took place, since most of the garages were full and Market is heinous at all hours.
As for the actual consult, I found Michelle Brodie to be standoffish once she realized my case is not a total cake walk, and her tone became a bit condescending. I don’t know if it’s an age thing or a lack of interest or because I hobbled into her office in yoga pants and a t-​shirt (hello, I’m injured)… but it did bug me.
I’d advise people to consider this office moreso if they live IN the city (or are mobile enough to go to/​from with ease) and are at the very beginning of a fairly straight-​forward case.
