With a name like Latte Express, most people wouldn’t think much about it. But they sell some of the best banh mi in the area. Get the pork banh mi if you are clueless on what to get. What I like the most is their pillowy soft baguette roll that’s crisp when they hand the sandwich to you. Apparently, they make them in-house. I can believe it because I saw a large mixer often used for breads in the back kitchen and I saw them wheeled out trays of baguettes in the morning. I am almost tempted to ask them if they would sell me just the baguettes. I wish they would put more paté in their combination sandwich or just a tad bit more cha lua filling. It is the best? No, but good enough that I would go everyday if I can.

Grabbed a #16(bagel, bacon, egg) and a 16 oz coffee. The sandwich was perfectly cooked and filling and the coffee was top notch. Cheap and delicious. Ambiance leaves something to be desired, so grab your food to go.

Great place! I get the breakfast sandwich on English muffins with ham. It’s really delicious and less than 5 bucks. They have a really diverse menu, and everything I’ve tried has been tasty. Service is quality as well.

Hands down my favorite spot for some quick breakfast before work. Don’t expect the staff to be nice because they kinda always look like judgmental in-laws. DO expect quick service and tasty banh-mi! Their portions are smaller but I’m usually good with the size they offer. Also, their doughnut holes are my little morning saviors :)

I placed the order of the combo of a grilled pork sandwich and a cup of iced coffee. the menu said it only costs me $ 7.75+tax. However, the woman charged me $ 8.98 toward my card. Then I challenged her the overcharge. she said it is because of the ice cubes. She refused to refund.

This was a nice refuge for us. We had been walking for hours around San Francisco from the Caltrain station. It was quite windy and it was really crowded that weekend. We wanted to have a short break from the harsh cold wind. We rested in this little café. The drinks and snacks were reasonably priced. It was nothing fancy. But somehow our two toddlers loved their chocolate donuts and fought for it. This place allows you to have a warm cup to choco wgile enjoying the view from the outside. From the café, you can feel warm while warching people, cars and events passing by and happening by union square. Take note: there’s no washroom in this café.

My first time was on friday… And they had me waiting for so long the Chinese lady was taking care of the other people who was coming in and I was just there standing waiting for more then 10 min. Well at least my #11 had everything on it. But today the lady with black shirt took my order and when I request if she could warm up the turkey she gave me a face… And she didnt even ask if it was to go or for here when I wanted my order for here and then when I open my sanwich was missing the tomatoes… I would never come to this place again…

i honestly can’t hate on mom and pop stores. They have this charm to them… it really sheds light that it’s more than just the food– it’s the people behind the counter that bring together the experience. I came in here randomly– it’s literally a hole-in-the wall bahn mi shop near market and soma. Ordered their grilled pork bahn mi and had their vietnamese iced coffee. All of it was tasty, the bread is a little smaller and softer than what I’m used to. They also offer a bunch of breakfast bagels and croissants too! Overall, good place to grab a bite if you’re in a rush/heading off to work.

Overall: house veggie bahn mi seems like an afterthought Ambience: this place feels like more of a coffee shop owned by Vietnamese ladies than a Vietnamese ‘deli’ that has an American name. It’s a quick breakfast place and has no ambience. Food: I had the house veggie bahn mi(#6) which they serve at all times during the day. For the record, I’m pretty picky with my bahn mi but then again I’m visiting from Alabama where no bahn mi can be found. The bread wasn’t crisp, the tofu was shredded and didn’t taste like fresh tofu at all and there were plenty of cilantro stems. The best part was the pickled carrots and daikon which were sweeter than sour and they were crunchy. I wouldn’t come here again.

so this place is a really random donut shop owned by a Cambodian family. i came here one morning for a Vietnamese banh mi, not knowing if it would be any good because it really is just a hole-in-the-wall donut shop in the middle of downtown. not so sure how their other food or coffee tastes, but this review is simply based upon the banh mi i get from them at least once a week now. there’s nothing fancy about this banh mi. unlike places like Bun Mee where it’s a bit more fusion and Saigon Sandwich where the bread isn’t so traditional at all, this little shop makes the most traditional banh mi in the area. i grew up eating this stuff, so when it comes to the french bread i can get really critical. their bread here is so on point. today, i finally asked them where their bread comes from and of course, it’s made fresh in-house every morning. exactly like the french baguettes they serve in France and Vietnam. my kind of place.

Upon a visit made necessary out of hunger, this place did not disappoint. It has proved itself worthy of a high A-OK! and a raise to 3 stars because the sandwich was satisfying. On occasion I do get a sandwich that is surprisingly larger or more filled(or seems so), and that does ignite a small spark of happiness within my exhausted soul. But other than being of descent size, and getting that and a soda for $ 6, I haven’t tried much. Not the best sandwich ive ever had, but it gets the job done quickly. I’ll come back for convenience, if not for the quality.

Love Love Love the #5BBQ Chicken sandwich, so delish, always crave it!!! So yummy, spicy with sweet carrots,(and I ask for avacados) makes it perfectly balanced goodness. Coffe is great! and lots of choices on other drinks(juices, sodas, milk, etc) and chips that go well with the sandwich. Every time I’m in SF this place is the first place I go early in the morning to get my breakfast or lunch. :) Almost became as a ritual… Staff are very friendly and service is less than 10 mins. The only thing that there are very limitted parking around it, but I always seem to find one(the garage, street parking one or two blocks away, or mall parking right across the street). Overall, I don’t understand why people give such low scores. The prices are cheap for something that tasty. :)

(from 8÷20÷2013) Good breakfast is something of an elusive thing, at least in the Financial District. This turned out to be a solid, no frills choice. Service was quick and friendly. Had a bacon and egg bagel that was quite good and a respectable cup of coffee. Nice, quiet place with good all around selection.

Haha I don’t frequent Latte Express normally but I do go when I’m craving banh mis. I do because its so close to the office(5th b/w Market and Mission) and its cheap. That’s the dealbreaker for a lot of the lunch spots in SOMA. Sometimes you just need your cheap, quick fix and that is was Latte Express does for me. I normally go with the Combination #7. It has all the meat, ham and pâté I could ask for. Sometimes I just ask for a pâté sandwich when I am feeling plain. My complaint about these sandwiches would have to be the bread. It is pretty dry and flaky. I prefer a nice, fresh, French roll that’s soft — I’m pretty sure I almost choked from how dry the bread was. That was a recent offense but usually Latte Express is fairly decent. It is a lot cheaper than the banh mis at Miss Saigon.

The food was okay. Both ladies on the other side of the counter were really bitchy and rolling their eyes at us.

Once again, my bahn mi #3 was delicious, but I’m not sure it’s worth the $ 4.70 plus tax that it now costs. I was actually hungry a few hours later since it was kind of small. The service is friendly and quick. I give the ladies behind the counter lots of props because of dealing with the element in the neighborhood. When I was in there a very filthy homeless guy came in with his cup and filled it up from the coffee urns sitting there, and just walked out. Ugh.

$ 5 for a vietnamese chicken sandwich = WIN. This beats walking into the food court at the mall and it is affordable. A great low key spot in this neighborhood if you work nearby. Don’t let the donut shop look fool you.

So while it says latte express, don’t come here for coffee. I actually only come here for the sandwiches. Cheap vietnamese sandwiches about a 5 minute walk from my office and relaly good quality for the price especially. Hard french roll, fresh jalapenos(super good), carrots and pâté. What’s not to like? Lots of my coworkers and I used to go to another hole in the wall that is closer to more choices a little further down mission street, but my mind is made up, this place is far better than the other Vietnamese sandwich alternatives in the proximity. Cash only and the ATM sucks at reading cards. Also be careful you only are allowed to sit in the place for an allotted time, and only if you buy something, according to their signs. I have never seen it enforced though.

Oh it’s been a longggg long long time, Latte Express. This is one of my favorite quick and cheap food spots around Market, mainly for the banh mi. Use to come here a lot, then you know occupation change and moving around kept me away. I don’t know if it’s the best banh mi in the city, but I recently bought a BBQ chicken banh mi here and a few days later got a grilled chicken banh mi at Café Dolci, just to compare. And the BBQ chicken @ Latte is the winner in my book. *** Update 2÷8÷13− I just tried the House Veggie banh mi, which has shredded fried tofu in it. Not exactly healthy, but it’s bomb, yummy, and I love it! I had to try the tofu banh mi at Café Dolci, just to compare. And Latte Express wins again!
