I had a ring shipped to Lang for review. They were very helpful and polite. They ended up passing on the purchase and offered to Fed Ex the ring back. My ring still hasn’t arrived and has been listed in transit for the last four days for a total of 6 days past the promised delivery date. I am frustrated by this fact as it’s a fairly expensive piece of jewelry that is now in limbo somewhere in the U.S.
I wouldn’t recommend shipping any items to them; visiting the brick and mortar store might be a better experience.

My fiancé bought my 1940s aquamarine engagement ring from here 2 years ago. It was the first and only ring I tried on. He was able to purchase the ring over the phone when we were back home in Columbus, OH. They are so nice and accommodating. I just dropped off my ring to have the prongs tightened and the ring cleaned! I could not be happier!

I stopped into Lang on a whim one day when I was early for an appointment nearby. I had been looking for months for a wedding band for my heirloom engagement ring that once belonged to my husband’s grandmother. The problem we had been having was that my engagement ring is not a huge solitaire and it is a three stone ring so I needed a wedding band with a gradual curve. On top of that we wanted something that looked like it came from a similar time period as the engagement ring. We had looked at a bunch of commercial jewelry stores and most of the curved bands had big curves for large solitaire rings and the few that we found that had the correct curve looked modern and generic. We were about to have a custom band made for $$$ when I stopped into this store.
The ladies at Lang were beyond helpful and I really felt like they appreciated my engagement ring, one because it was an heirloom so it had special meaning, and two because of the craftsmanship that went into making it even though it is simple and small compared to modern day rings. After giving me lots of helpful information on the era that my ring was from they showed me the few vintage wedding bands that they had. Apparently vintage bands are hard to come by since it wasn’t always the fashion to wear wedding bands. After not seeing anything in the vintage rings they asked if I was open to a replica ring because they had an art deco one that they designed that they thought had the correct curve. It was love at first sight! Best part is it was very reasonably priced compared to the custom option we were going to have made so I was able to get two bands for either side of my ring!
I went back a few weeks later to order and pay for my bands and it just so happened to be Valentine’s Day. As a gift they were handing out a box of fancy chocolate truffles and a full bottle of champagne for anyone who bought jewelry that day! Bonus! My rings came in much earlier than they quoted me and my husband and I absolutely love them! Also, I would be remiss if I did not mention the glorious vintage rings and jewelry they have in here. I was drooling every time I came in. Thanks Lang!

I cannot say enough good things about Lang. As soon as my boyfriend and I started talking about getting engaged, I knew I wanted an antique engagement ring to match my grandmother’s (and mother’s) Art Deco-​style wedding band that I would be wearing. After doing some research online, I came across Lang and immediately started looking at rings on their wonderfully-​managed website. Within a few days, we visited their store to try on some of the rings I saw online. We first went in on a Saturday and the store was very crowded but we still received excellent customer service. Maria pulled out all of the rings I had seen online and patiently waited as I tried them on and tried to figure out which ring would match best with my mother’s ring. This was exceptionally difficult given that I didn’t actually have my mother’s ring with me at the time. Nevertheless, I fell in love with a beautiful Art Deco platinum, diamond engagement ring that I had a feeling would match well with my mother’s ring. My boyfriend and I went back a few days later on a Monday to purchase the ring. I had it sized down from a 6 ¼ to a 4 ½ and it came out beautifully. I could not be happier with my experience at Lang and highly recommend them if you are in the market for a beautiful antique engagement ring.

I walked in one afternoon with the task of finding an engagement ring and having it sized in less than 48 hours, but with absolutely no sense of what I wanted. Not even a budget.
Nicole spent a couple hours with me, walking me through setting styles, periods, color, cutting techniques of yesteryear… she was incredibly patient with me and was very skilled at helping me narrow down the aesthetic I was unconsciously attracted to, without ever rushing or pressuring me. We narrowed it down to a set of 4 rings for my fiancé to come in and see the following day.
As there was no fixed budget, the final set of choices differed wildly in price, with the most expensive costing four times that of the least. I cannot express enough my appreciation for the fact that we at no point experienced any pressure to buy the piece that would yield the highest commission. This kind of buying atmosphere will bring us back to Lang for our wedding bands and any occasions in the future that warrant a jewelry purchase.
Lang is surely not the cheapest option in terms of carat for your coin. But the sentiment attached to your engagement ring will be affected by its origin and your experience in picking it out.
I highly recommend this business.

I grew up near San Francisco and no trip to the city was complete without stopping by Lang’s. If you love unique and beautiful vintage jewelry, this place will make you swoon. This is where I will bring my sons to pick up engagement rings for their fiancées. Hands down, my favorite jeweler.

When I got engaged, a friend told me about Lang Antiques. Funny, I’d walked past this tiny shop hundreds of times but never noticed it! When I called, the woman who scheduled my appointment was incredibly sweet, congratulatory, and full of information.
My fiancée and I went in for an appointment that Saturday morning. Julie assisted us, very patiently, for an hour and a half while we decided which ring to choose. We told her our budget, and she was very honest and never tried to show us anything outside of that range. She was informative about the rings themselves and about the historical periods each belonged to. In the end, we (okay, I) chose a beautiful 1950s platinum/​diamond ring that I just love love love!
With our purchase, Lang Antiques also threw in a bottle of free champagne, filled out all applicable insurance paperwork for us, AND (perhaps most importantly) resized the ring for free. They told us the resizing would take two weeks; when I asked them to please put a rush on it (we had a party the following weekend), they did, and I got my ring back in just 5 days!
Highly recommended for any newly engaged couples!
I notice from older reviews that many Unilocalers complained about employees’ attitude and snootiness. They seem to have greatly improved since then, because I’ve walked through their doors a total of three times now, and experienced nothing but genuine politeness and helpfulness every time I was there. Their security guards always smile and hold the door open for everyone, and even offer Starbucks cards to customers when all their salespeople are busy!

For a few years I’ve been looking for something to replace my original wedding ring that was ultimately way too modern for my art deco-​era heirloom engagement ring (e-​ring). That search eventually led me to Lang where I found lots of antique and reproduction-​vintage rings, many of which would work with my ring.
I ultimately landed on a reproduction art deco ring in platinum, listed at a much lower cost than other platinum – and even white gold rings – from other places that I didn’t like nearly as much. And so unique! I haven’t seen anything else like it. Most shops that carry antique jewelry don’t list them all online, making it difficult to shop if the store isn’t in your area, but Lang had an impressive online offering.
I was initially skeptical about making such a big and important purchase online, but Lang had an A+ rating with the BBB and great reviews on Unilocal.They also promised a full refund if the ring didn’t match with my e-​ring or I was otherwise unhappy with it.
I found the associates at Lang to be friendly, responsive, willing to help and well informed. I spent a while on the phone with one associate, who found a ring with similar proportions to my e-​ring and sent me pictures of it paired with the ring I was interested in, so I could get an idea of how it would look together. They even agreed to special order it in my size, despite being unsure on my end if I would even like the ring with my engagement ring.
Although the few week wait for the special order and shipping seemed torturous at the time, I ultimately received the ring a week sooner than promised and it is GORGEOUS! It FAR surpasses the pictures on the website. It’s delicate, feminine, unique, sparkly, just beautiful. Fits my engagement ring almost like a glove and really COMPLIMENTS my e-​ring instead of detracting from it like my original wedding ring did. EXACTLY what I’ve been searching for this whole time.
I’m a very happy camper and highly recommend Lang!

I recently sold a 1920s platinum solitaire to Lang and I was mostly really pleased with the experience. (I wish there were a 4.5 stars button!) I was offered a good price for the ring, with the option of receiving a certain amount now (for my .73ct, $ 1600) more if I wanted to wait while they sold it ($ 1850). I decided to take the «now» price. (I’m giving amounts because that’s what I was so desperate to get a sense of, when searching through reviews, myself.)
What was especially nice is that they looked at some other jewelry I had sent, and although they found it too modern for their store, the appraiser gave me some information on my other solitaire that gave me a lot more confidence as I went forward to sell it elsewhere. That was above and beyond!
The only problem I had is that there was some confusion, thinking that they had already sent me the offer, and then thinking they had sent back my other jewelry… It really was only confusion, but it was a little frustrating at the time. When I called, they remedied it immediately — and sent the check the very same day!
I have to add the reason that I trusted them completely. I was reading about diamonds on a discussion board, and this one gemologist in Colorado posts a lot to a particular board, and he was telling someone that there were a few good places to sell a diamond — and he mentioned Lang Antiques. So this unbiased person’s comment gave me a lot of faith.
Next time, I hope I will be buying some of their jewelry — it looks absolutely gorgeous!

If you like money, don’t come here.
You’ll literally spend way more than you told yourself you would, and you will find plenty of things you’ll want. And come back for them.
It’s become an obsession.
I was greeted by Starla who I guess catalogues all the pieces and literally knows every thing about every thing. She’s pretty impressive and patient. It was such a pleasure to talk with her and get a mini history lesson when it comes to jewelry.
This tiny store feels like a museum of jewelry.
Let’s just say, I can’t stop staring at my new ring, I can’t wait to pick up my other new ring (getting sized) and I can’t wait to find my next treasure here!

We checked out a few antique shops to find an engagement ring and Lang’s had the best and largest selection. Buying an antique ring versus a brand new one is quite a different experience. Maria was very helpful and informative about style, cut and design. After choosing a ring, I had to get the ring sized from a 7 to a 3. Which was pretty much impossible and the staff there was very careful about making any false promises about having the ring sized down until they consulted with their jeweler. The only down side about Lang’s is they don’t have an in house jeweler so the sizing process took a little longer. My ring was also spinning around my finger once I got it sized and they graciously helped me by adding two metal balls on the back. That process was very quick and they ever had it delivered to me.
I had a wonderful experience with Lang’s and would encourage people to buy their pieces because they have so much character and history. Their customer service was excellent and they were very friendly, nice and never pushy.

I was treated very well by the saleswomen at Lang Antiques. My husband bought a beautiful art deco ring for me that needed some sizing, and the saleswomen were very careful to explain to me my options and help me with getting the sizing perfect, even after I changed my mind about which hand to wear it, meaning that I needed it attended to multiple times. Never did I feel rushed. They were professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and welcoming. I’m looking forward to the next time I have reason to stop by.

One of my friends is a fine arts appraiser, and when she heard that I was shopping for an engagement ring she recommended that I stop by Lang Jewelers.
While I’m a little iffy about buying estate jewelry, if you don’t have any qualms about antique baubles Lang is your paradise. All sorts of Art Deco pieces, including diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emeralds, etc. I saw a few impressive pieces from Tiffany and Shreve, as well as some emerald rings. They also have some more contemporary pieces, like a halo cushion cut diamond ring. I found prices to be reasonable and the sales staff are very helpful.
I probably won’t get my engagement ring here, but may pop in from time to time to keep an eye out for a possible right hand ring.

Absolutely gorgeous antique shop! They have so many amazing pieces. The engagement rings are one of a kind. They also have stunning silver tea sets, jewelry boxes, etc. The staff there is really helpful despite being really busy.
My fiancé and I were there to look at wedding bands. They were pretty limited on choices for men’s bands but I fell in love with three of their wedding bands. I will be going back to make my final decision soon. You have to ask for the wedding bands, they don’t keep them all out. They have amazing antique rings as well as reproduction rings. They make molds of their most popular rings so that they can make more!

When I decided to propose to my girlfriend, I knew that I wanted to find a ring that was as unique as she. I suppose that I’m a romantic at heart, and I wanted to surprise her with both the proposal and the ring, so I did not elicit any suggestions as I wanted to give no hints. There were many options, but I narrowed down my jewelers of choice to Lang Antiques and Dianne’s New and Old Estates.
I visited Lang’s website which shows the store’s entire live inventory. The rings here are primarily estate pieces, many dating to the Edwardian Era (1901 – 1919) or older. There are also a very few new and modern rings, but the best pieces here are all Edwardian or Art Deco rings. The detail and style achieved by the craftsmen of those long gone times is not easily replicated. The truth is that the engagement rings at Lang Antiques make the wares at Shreve & Company or Tiffany & Company look like mass produced baubles that fell off of an assembly line. If you love labels or want something shiny and new, but without spirit, then feel free to visit one of those other establishments. Maybe pick up a soda and hotdog while you snatch up a ring at Costco?
Lang is easily walkable from the Montgomery BART if you choose to eschew San Francisco parking. The store is fairly tiny, accommodating no more than four couples comfortably, but it is packed with timeless jewelry from wall to wall. Once inside, I knew that visiting any other jeweler would be unnecessary.
There are amazing rings here for as little as $ 700, and for over $ 150 000. Let’s just say that I found a comfortable range somewhere in the middle. Each ring that I looked at was unique and one-​of-​a-​kind. Julie, a GIA trained salesperson, helped me find a group of rings that were within my price range and were the right look for what I thought my girlfriend would love. She gave me a refresher course on diamond basics, on vintage rings, and also advised that there is a 3% cash discount for all purchases, which would otherwise be paid as merchant fees to their credit card vendors. As such, I made an appointment to return the following day.
After a sizeable bank withdrawal (requiring Federal disclosure reporting), I returned to Lang where Angela helped me with my final purchase. Luckily, the sales people here pool their commissions, so there is no undue, cutthroat pressure from anyone at Lang.
It should be noted that not all of the rings here are able to be GIA certified as this type of certification requires a loose diamond, and removing vintage diamonds from their existing rings could often cause irreparable damage. That being said, many of the rings here do have a GIA cert, if such a thing offers you any peace of mind.
In the end, I found a ring with a conflict-​free, one hundred year old diamond that had been salvaged from a ring unsuitable for resale, and mounted into a new ring, handcrafted in the Edwardian style. Though Lang may not be the right jeweler for everyone, it was the right choice for me (us).
And she said yes!

They don’t pressure you and help provide as much education as you want (or don’t want). They have the finest vintage jewelry, and the prices reflects the one of a kind pieces. Great selection of art deco and edwardian style rings.
They also list every single piece of jewelry available in the store online, so you can do your homework on styles and prices before you go in! If you’re into vintage, you definitely want to stop by!

I bought my engagement ring from Lang Antiques and everyone involved in the process was so nice and helpful! My fiancée let me choose my own ring after he proposed, and I found this ring online and fell in love with it. Angela, Alison, and Nicole were all so helpful and provided great guidance in how ordering something like this online would work and then shipping it back and forth across the country (I live in Baltimore!) to be sized.
The engagement ring is so unique and a true vintage flower pattern set in platinum. I’ve had it for a few weeks now and its the one that was meant for me.
Hopefully on my next trip to San Francisco I can actually visit the store and see the rest of their beautiful selection!

Mr & I were strolling around Union Square & as I got sucked into all the sparklie windows, there was an exquisite diamond négligée necklace I saw at Lang Antiques that I suspected was way out of my price range but worth a shot — after all, I had been happily surprised when I’d taken a chance at Fourtane Jewelers in Carmel & ended up w/​*THE* most beautiful watch…
So enter Lang we do, to see about this necklace. The shop is so jampacked full of antique & estate pieces that it’s hard to see it all — much like missing the trees for the forest (to reverse an idiom) — but have patience & take time to find your treasure
In addition to necklaces, rings, bracelets, pins & the like, their engagement ring selection is exceptionally large… if you’re in the market for a certain important question (as at least 3 guys that day were), definitely check here first
But be forewarned — the shop is *extremely* small & it got so crowded that they were literally turning people away at the door. It’s not personal but you may need to wait a few minutes until someone leaves
Alas for us, the necklace was indeed a bit too precious & as I had no special-​event excuse to justify the purchase, we had to say our farewells.
But all was not lost, as fate had something else in mind that day… my eyes were guided towards this sweet Victorian «REGARD» necklace
History Lesson: Prince Albert presented a snake engagement ring to Queen Victoria b/​c back in Victorian times, the snake symbolized «eternal love». Then we have the heart-​shaped locket & on top of that, its gemstone initials spell out the word «regard» — Ruby, Emerald, Garnet, Amethyst, Ruby, Diamond.
So there’s a lot of love action going on w/​this necklace… very cool concepts that paired very well w/​Valentine’s Day. Plus I especially dig things w/​hidden meanings!
Which brings me to another forewarning: While some antique places offer wiggle room on their prices, Lang does not… the price is the price. They *can* offer a 3% discount if you’re paying in cash or via wire transfer but other than that, zero negotiations.
So knowing what we knew & seeing what we saw & after pondering for the afternoon, we decided to go back & take that little locket home w/​us… of course, it was after we stopped by the bank b/​c hey, I can use that 3% towards the increase in my insurance
Overall, have to say I didn’t get any overwhelming warm fuzzies by my shopping experience here. They’re just too darn busy to spend any quality time & they certainly didn’t expound on any piece’s particular history or backstory. The only attachment you’ll make to a piece is the 1 you create for yourself

UPDATE ⁰³⁄₂₀₁₃: I highly recommend Lang (and am upping them to 5 stars) because once again, their customer service was EXCELLENT. My platinum engagement ring cracked at the joints where it was resized; I had no idea this could happen! However, they took it, said they would fix it free of charge, and it would be ready in two weeks.
I was getting ready to visit elderly relatives and friends in Portland, OR in less than a week, and I had been looking forward to showing them my ring. Since I operate under the «it doesn’t hurt to ask» theory, I explained the situation and asked if there was anything that could be done (without expecting it – I was grateful my ring was being repaired free of charge!). Sure enough, they put my ring on a rush, and I am so grateful.

My SO and I talked about getting engaged well over a year before we actually made it «official.» Much of this time was spent browsing estate ring selections — I have been to several estate jewelry purveyors in the city, but I found Lang to be BY FAR the best in terms of selection and the website.
I had already made up my mind that I wanted an antique ring, because they are generally one-​of-​a-​kind, with detailed settings that you can’t find if you walk into Kay Jewelers. I think solitaires are boring — I need intricate detail, please! Not to mention that it is an ethical and affordable choice, all things considered.
The entire reason I went to Lang was because their website is up-​to-​date and has clear photos (from multiple angles) of every single piece. Although I couldn’t get my SO to go for the $ 100+k options (gee, I wonder why), there was a huge selection of antique pieces for me to choose from.
We ended up coming in twice. I found what I thought was THE ring once, but when he went to buy it, it was gone. (Hint: RINGS TURN OVER FAST. IF YOU FIND THE ONE, SNATCH IT UP QUICK!) That ended up being okay, because I found something I liked even better!
Both times that I came in, I found the staff to be extremely helpful and friendly. The fact that they liked my rough-​cut labradorite ring didn’t hurt, either. Either way, I was straightforward about our general budget — which was pretty moderate — and they were more than able to present us with many gorgeous selections. The first sizing is free, and they did a beautiful job on mine. As far as I understand, my SO was very happy with their services, too.
I have stopped writing this review no less than 3 times to admire my lovely ring. ;)
I would HIGHLY recommend Lang. Check the website periodically to see what’s available, and stop in to try it on. Best of all, their staff (in my experience) was very low pressure and were more than happy to let me try on 20 – 30 rings, take pictures of the top contenders, and see us walk out the door without buying anything just yet. That’s something I really appreciate.
