Klyde Cafe & Wine Bar

It was National Wine Day yesterday so naturally my co-​workers and I decided to treat ourselves to some wine and cheese. With a quick search this place came up and it’s only a few blocks from our office! Seeing that it was happy hour I called ahead to put our name down but when we arrived it was pretty empty and it didn’t even get crowded as we were there.
We split and cheese plate and charcuterie board with a few glasses of wine (they even let us do a tasting of a few options before deciding!). The service was awesome and quick, I’m honestly surprised how empty it was because everything was so great! We’ll definitely be coming back :)

I’ve only had drinks here at the bar and based on that experience and the ambience, I give it 5 stars. It’s a small place but they manage to keep it cozy without feeling stuffy. It’s adjacent to a hotel and is sophisticated without being pretentious. Even though I went here after work, it never got crowded. A good place to go downtown with friends or co-​workers for drinks and bites without having to yell over people.

Great spot for the Union Sq. area and worth a visit if you’re around during Happy Hour. The place is small and cozy. Their drink menu is nice and the food is tasty. I just wasn’t impressed with the service that night. It may have been due to the two large groups that were also there that night.

Stopped in for a few drinks and ordered appetizers. Wine & beer was ordered for drinks, so that was fine but I found the burrata and aracini appetizers to be under seasoned and underwhelming. Our service was also good, though!

Good wine and tapas. Quiet ambience so my boyfriend and I could carry on a conversation :) good service too.

I wasn’t impressed by the service or the wine. Or the cheese, which is really saying the most. I. Love. Cheese.
I guess I’ll cut them a break because it was busy with the happy hour crowd. But it was just okay. I’m not going to make a special trip here, but I might try it again when in the neighborhood, but I’ll order something different.

I cannot believe I didn’t get to this review sooner. We went to Klyde for breakfast when visiting San Francisco. The food was superb. What made this an unforgettable experience was that they brought extra food for our 3 year old without us asking for it. Sometimes the simplest act is all you want.
Thanks Dominique for making this a memorable breakfast. I’ll surely visit Klyde in my future trips.

Solid food, casual and lively place to hang out with friends, prices are decent — can’t ask for much more! Also great, convenient location in Union Square easily accessible in walking distance near the Powell BART station. I did notice it was a bit hot in there in the evening though — that was the only minus really, otherwise, a solid place.

I love coming to Klyde for their happy hour. They have happy hour everyday from 3−6pm i believe. Available are $ 5 glasses of red and white wine, prosecco and rose. They also have really delicious small bites such as truffle fries and cheese boards. This wine bar is very quaint and located inside of a small hotel. It is very clean and has a very San Franciscan feel to it.
The bathroom for the restaurant located inside of the hotel is beautiful!
Definitely check this place out if you want a nice glass after work or just wanna kick back and relax with a few friends!

I am a fan! Given this nice little heat wave we’ve been working through, I was concerned Klyde might be a bit too closed-​off and dark. Who wants to spend a beautiful day cooped up inside? Not me. Upon entering, was pleasantly surprised. The space is bright, clean, and airy.
Plenty of open seating when we arrived around 5:30pm on a Thursday. Anybody who works in the FiDi area knows that the happy hour scene can be aggressive. Try getting a glass of wine sans rubbing elbows with a few strangers, I dare you. Not here though! Pleasantly, other parties started coming in after we got there, but it still never felt too crowded or loud. We were just in for some vino, and they have a great happy hour selection. Outside of HH, prices are decent and a few bucks under what I’m used to paying. Pours are generous and the ladies workin’ the place were attentive and kind.
I’d certainly come back for the wine alone, but after a few glimpses of other tables’ cheese plates and light bites, I’m convinced I’ll be ordering some snacks next time around. Three cheers for Klyde, living proof that the hotel bar scene has still got it!

Truly, I don’t understand why more locals prefer to wait in line or try to work their way through the crowd to get served when they could have a perfectly lovely experience at a place like Klyde Café without the hassle. #MakesNoSense
This ain’t yo mama’s Holiday Inn Express hotel restaurant, either. Good for brunch, an afternoon salad, or cheese plate paired with a bottle of wine. Have been here multiple times for these very occasions. Yes, drinking wine with a cheese plate is always an «occasion.»
Love the bartenders, they’re a lot of the same staff from next door at 398 Brasserie. Really fun to sit at the counter and chat with them while enjoying the food and beverage. Never a dull moment.
Next time you’re in Union Square, come on in to Klyde. They serve fresh food, have a very classic NorCal menu, and you won’t have to elbow your way up to the hostess stand to be seated.

This wine bar was interesting. I wasn’t particularly impressed by its wine collection but rather was impressed by its dish. I recommend the pork chop. It was cooked very well. The dish was fairly large, however, so be prepared to share.
Now about the wine… I did not like its pinot noir servings. Ordered both the French and California pinot noir and had to say «No» to both of them after the initial pour. Luckily, the waitress was nice enough to exchange the bottle for me — no questions asked. French merlot was the replacement and it was decent.
Overall, I would like to give Klyde Café and Wine Bar 3.5 stars. I had a good experience there. I only wished the waitress who took our orders would be more enthusiastic in describing various wines rather than passively wait for us to make a rather hazy decision. I also wish the restaurant would serve red blends. I didn’t remember seeing any on the menu.

The café and wine bar is a bit hidden and unexpected, but lovely in a secluded way. You have to get into the Hotel G and turn right in.
Happy hours on wine bottles for $ 25! We went overboard and ordered up 2 bottles. *clink* *clink* I loved the Merlot red that was the only bottle, happening, for the choice on happy hour.
Their dishes that we ordered up were tasty. Truffle fries is a guaranteed yum. Pork belly could have been bigger for one order because we had a sizeable group. It was a mere 2 ounce pork belly that was suppose to be shared among 5 people. When I looked at it, I was thinking, you must be kidding me. The server should have gave us a heads up about how mini it would be. Skip. Deviled eggs were in petite, bitable servings. Sirloin patty burger was topped with a sunny side up egg and side pickled onions. Good, but not best paired with wine. Charcuterie platter topped it for me! The cured meat and cheeses that they presented, was delectable. It complimented well with the wine. Their Macaroni Gratin was to die for! The rich cheese mixed in with Béchamel sauce, was one of those moments on the lips and forever on the hips. Workout (note to self) after every cherished bite I took out of the Macaroni.
It’s a great hideaway and tucked away from the crowd.
I would wine down here, surely.

My mom and I had a late lunch/​happy hour here on Friday July 17^th. This is attached to the 398 Brasserie, but it’s a different experience… we actually visited both and had a great experience here at Klyde… not so much at 398, see my review.
We stopped in around 4pm, we each had 2 glasses of the Happy Hour wine on special, as well as the Carpaccio, Shishito Peppers and Escargot. Everything was lovely, the service was attentive but not hovering. We chatted with a couple nearby and the guy worked at 398 so he tipped us off to some other menu items worth trying (the lamb shank, we didn’t get the opportunity but it looked great and his date concurred)
Cute décor, 3 seats at the window if you want to people watch.

For the price, this place is decent — seared ahi tuna salad was pretty good, but there was so little tuna! Had to find lunch #2 after haha…
Service was pretty quick and friendly though.

Update Easter Sunday
Kelley, Jenni and I had brunch today at KLYDE my favorite new downtown spot … I had eggs Benedict on point again. Love this place and they’ve gotten so busy they’ve expanded into the neighboring space …

This bistro is nestled in a hotel and can be easy to miss. It’s sort of a California meets French casual bistro with some classics like steak frites and mussels.
I had the fish and chips. They were pretty solid portions. The tartar sauce was nice.
Service was great. Wine selection is good too. The waiter was nice enough to offer tastes of two bottles so I can pick one for a glass. He also was very generous with his pour.
I think if you’re looking for a laid back place for wine and some bites, I’d come here. Prices are very reasonable and possibly a little low for SF.

we ordered the Mussels with fries (bacon cream sauce) for $ 17 and the Spaghetti a la Vongole (clams, white wine, and garlic) for $ 17.
Both meals were really great! I didn’t taste any bacon flavors in the mussel sauce but it wasn’t a big deal at all. You get huge portions for your money and layout and service is good too!
We went at an off time to eat but it was soooo warm inside. We made sure to sit by the door, but it was the first thing we noticed, so wear layers!

Who goes to a wine bar for breakfast? This girl. On a busy holiday weekend at 10:00 am, we found a table right away. We were handed menus, water & coffee. The menu is perfect. There are quite a few options but it’s not so extensive that you feel overwhelmed. At first I was going to order the French toast but when the Mr. ordered the Liege waffle, I changed my mind to the chevre arugula omelette.
The coffee is fresh & medium bodied. The server kept our cups full throughout the meal. The omelette was cooked perfectly. The eggs light & fluffy. The arugula & goat cheese (chevre) truly complimented the eggs. The crispy potatoes loaded every bite with the perfect blend of rich creaminess with a light and fresh crunch.
The liege waffle is unlike anything else I have ever had the pleasure of ordering. It has a sweet caramelized outer shell, with a chewy center. The buttery whipped cream topping is sinfully delicious. The berries were beautifully ripened. A touch of syrup was all that was needed.
