KFOG FM 104.5 and 97.7

After a number of years I regret to say that I can no longer listen to the morning show. I used to feel that it provided a nice mix of talk and music. The main reason that I am done with the morning show, now splitting between 105 and NPR, is Irish Greg. I’m not trying to be mean but he is awful. I have never heard him say anything that would be considered funny, intelligent, clever, etc… Somebody please tell me why he is on the show. I realize losing one listener is probably not a huge deal but last I checked KFOG is not exactly doing that well in the ratings. Personally I won’t be back till Irish Greg is gone.

I have listened to KFOG off and and on for many years. Its a Bay Area institution where Dave Morey was a longtime DJ. There are DJs on this station whose programs I still enjoy but I do feel that since Cumulus bought the station the music has deteriorated. The music in my opinion used to be varied and now it seems there is a tighter playlist of more pop oriented music. Acoustic Sunrise with Rosalee still plays a variety of eclectic music but this seems to be the exception to the rule. I long for the days when KFOG rocked.

Why do guys advertise Loan Me on your radio station? Do you know how bad this types of loans are? The interest rates are not even legal here in California please take this off of your station for the sake of all your listeners.

Scanning through the stations I found kfog, and immediately got hooked. I herd that no name had just joined the crew and decided to give it a shot. I was beyond impressed with their 60 min flight of music, but most importantly their 10 at 10.
10 at 10 played great songs from a specific year that you normally wouldn’t hear on the radio but are great hits. For example, today was the year 1998, and they played songs from artists such as fastball, smash mouth, and barenaked ladies, which is what urged me to write this review.
I used to be a loyal listener to an alternative station very close to this station, but since tuning in, I have set my #1 preset to 104.5 KFOG. This station mixes it up and plays fun up beat songs that you wouldn’t hear on any other station. Do yourself a favor and tune in, you won’t be disappointed

The new morning show is terrible. I like the music, pretty much (some complaints, but largely positive). But when they start talking, I change channels. It’s so dumbed-​down from what it used to be. Utterly inane.
Renee is a big step down from Webster (who, fortunately, is still on in the afternoon, and he appeals to an intelligent audience, unlike Renee, who seems to dislike intelligent stuff (refer to her comments on Ben Gibbord as geeky). But this is a big step down from Dave Morey, who had an appeal to an intelligent audience and included things in the program to do so. No Name is plumbing the depths, as he has done in his past career.
Someone made a bad decision here, or maybe I’m not their target demographic. Not sure what the latter is, though. It seems to be the standard «stupid energetic morning show» that fills the air in that time slice.

Tried several times to listen recently and one word comes to mind when describing their playlist: vapid.

I absolutely love Renee in the mornings and Rosalie’s Acoustic Sunrise — I listen to their shows the most. Great play lists, and they’re amazing DJs.

They have No Name in the morning! It’s so nice to hear him again and amusing to hear him in the middle of this kind of music.
On the way to pick up my kid the other day I heard Stevie Wonder followed by the Red Hot Chili Peppers followed by Steve Winwood. It was awesome. I rocked out like the totally old gal that I am and thanked the great people at KFOG for not playing Taylor Swift. Seriously, that girl is like on every other station. People need a break every now and then.
Glad to have it back in my radio presets.

I too was a faithful KFOG fan for many years, and thought it was getting a little better lately until today’s Thankgiving 10 at 10, and the rest of the music all day today, so far. Horrible! Personally, I have never heard a worse 10 at 10 than the one today. The only redeeming feature of the day so far is that KFOG has kept the amazing Alice’s Restaurant tradition at noon and six.

It sucks. Just like any other formatted station. KFOG USED to be an excellent station and my station of choice in the 90’s and early 2000’s. The station went down hill fast when Dave Morey left. I really miss the way he and Don Pardo use to paly 10 @ 10.

When I first received an invite for the PlaySpace, the image of screaming children running around puzzle-​shaped rubber floors popped into my head. I cringed.
Wait, no. It’s a music thing? OK, tell me more…
Turns out, «Fogheads» receive special invitations to very private concerts inside KFOG’s PlaySpace. Genius, I tell you! While an artist is in town for a big show, s/​he can stop by KFOG’s VIP room, do quick interview, play a few songs and have a more intimate experience with local fans. It’s like those mini Snickers you get around Halloween time.
Had the pleasure of attending last week’s Tori Amos performance inside the PlaySpace and I gotta say, the experience was quite memorable. Having been a huge Tori Amos fan back in high school/​college, I was genuinely curious to know what she was up to these days. That fiery redhead is as engaging as ever in real-​life, sharing some personal stories before serenading the crowd with three songs (one classic, two new). Listen for yourself:
Short ‘n’ sweet and do-​able over a lunch break, the PlaySpace is perfect for music fans who don’t necessarily have the time to dedicate to an entire concert. Or for those die-​hard fans who need every ounce of a performer’s sweat and tears when they’re in the Bay Area. Regardless, I didn’t see one crabby person in the crowd of 20 – 25. Even the young mother with a crying baby got to listen from the sound booth :)
Whatever it takes to get on that PlaySpace guest list, do it!

Updating my review from last year. KFOG came to it’s senses and dumped Greg Gory and they now have the amazing RENEE doing the morning show. Wasn’t hard to figure out, she’s GREAT.

I’ve updated and increased my review from two years ago. This is the only station I end up going to for a great selection of rock and roll music that spans a broad time period without being «classic rock».
I enjoy the banter, the discussions about the performers and keeping the interruptions limited. The music and thoughtfulness of what’s played are great. Thanks!

After my initial post I was amazed months later when I discovered KFOG playing a fantastic set of music, and the commercials dialed back about 50% +
The personnel and mix of music and commercials has changed and evolved periodically over time, but at this point in time I still listen.
Sunday mornings are the best! 5 STARS
Their Play Space concerts also rate 5 STARS but they are no longer for FogHeads, instead there is some other registration process you must go through.
Apparently the FogHead demographic is too old and no longer sought after?

Attended the in-​studio concert with the «Hard Working Americans» ably performing … I’ve been a «FogHead» for many years and the beneficiary of a number of their promotions. Attended this with Grace H. who represents the Nihonmachi Street Fair and who was the prefect accompaniment for this impressive R&B performance. Was able to get a snapshot with Todd Snyder, leader of this «super group,» who I discovered years ago via his «Peace Freak» song.
Before heading over to KFOG studios, we had some very tasty ramen, headed over to KFOG and and MAKE MY DAY, there was rock star parking directly across the entrance to Cumulus. Well-​organized event, loved the layout of the studios and the mini-​concert hall. Cool to see the DJ’s at work and I imagine KFOG would be a blast to work at based on the goodie laden employee mailboxes …
Ahhh ~ what a wonderful afternoon. Thank you KFOG and rock on all you «Hard Working Americans!»

Bumping my review up from 1 star to 3, because Webster is back in the afternoon, and his cheerful chatter makes my after-​work commute that much better.
Morning show also seems slightly improved in the past month or so (meaning it has upgraded from inane to tolerable, but is still nowhere near its former greatness).

This was by far the best radio station in Northern California. From when I could first get their signal in the early nineties until that dreadful day that we shall not mention, I was a faithful listener.
R.I.P. KFOG.

Below is my review of KFOG after they adjusted things on the morning show. I’m back to edit this and report that a.) Renee Richardson is back on the Morning show (yay) and b.) Annalisea is back from her stay at that other radio staion in SF and is doing the 10@10 again!

Recently, KFOG changed their morning show format and while it wasn’t taken very well, (as is evident by the overall 2-​star rating noted here), the program director, Dennis Constantine ‘got on it’ and sent the morning host packing back to Kentucky after only two weeks, claiming «It quickly became obvious that the show wasn’t working or clicking for Fogheads»
By ‘obvious’, lemme explain… no, there is not time, allow me to sum-​up…
‘Fogheads’ represent over four hundred thousand people. Let’s clarify that, now… that’s almost a half a MILLION people. When you tick THAT many people off… simultaneously…let’s just say ‘bad things happen’ and they happen FAST.
It is my hope that with my recent-​post on all the KFOG-​related pages on FB, people will come over here to help boost the rating back to what it once was because let’s face it; KFOG does quite a lot for it’s community and now that the morning show is back in some semblance of intellectual bliss, we can all get on with our lives and just love each other, maaaaan!

The KFOG that I woke up every weekday morning and loved is now dead. From its peak as an intelligent, adult station with Dave Morey and Peter Finch, it has devolved into a juvenile, mindless radio station with Tony, Greg and Melanie.
I can’t stand listening to it any longer. Does anyone have an alternative?
And I wish KFOG would quit using the symbols of its past, such as «World Class Rock.» That’s just lying!
