Very happy with their service. They got my dog in the day I called. Everyone was very nice and it is very very reasonably priced for their services. We will be going back over and over. Our Emma was well taken care of and looks great!

I just got home from picking up Marlo the Dog and he’s never looked better! He’s soft and shiny and sporting a new snowflake bandanna.
The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and treated Marlo like he was their own pup. I highly recommend Kate’s and will definitely be returning.

The groomers are very friendly and knowledgeable. They did a great job with my cat King. Their the best, very professional, great price, and great service. I dropped King off it was very easy, and they made me feel comfortable leaving my baby with them. When I picked him up he looked great, and I was 100% satisfied with their services.

This place is the best! They take such good care of my dogs, both look amazing when they are done, and they are always happy. The price is great as well, better than other spots I’ve tried in SF that don’t do nearly as good a job. I always take my dogs to play in Alamo square before grooming so they can get their energy out and get a little dirty before getting clean :) It’s a great location, wonderful people, and an overall wonderful experience! I used to live nearby, but after moving to the other side of the city I keep coming back because everyone here is so wonderful and I know my dogs are in good hands. Thank you so much! Kates took care of our doodle so well! They were friendly, caring and took their time to make sure they knew what we wanted in our pups grooming process. He came out looking perfect and then some! We are so happy and will definitely be going back! *A perk is that the shampoo/​conditioner they use smells like roses, amazing!!!

I’m dog sitting for a friend who has an extremely busy schedule and a beautiful Yellow Lab… so I thought Sophie might enjoy a spa day. Brought her in with her fur in a tangle and a little dirty from playing football in the Panhandle.
Picked her up and the smile on her face said it all… she looked truly sensational.
All the tangles were gone, the matted fur — all wonderfully turned into beautiful soft luxuriant fur. Kate could turn the Hound of the Baskervilles into Rin Tin Tin!!!

I have gone to Kates 2 times and my puppy is now 6 months. This place really cares about how your dog is treated and what is best for him or her. It’s not even really an option for a puppy to get the full grooming the first time. They want your dog to come first and get familiar with being in that environment and being bathed and cut, that speaks a lot about them. The receptionist is so so so sweet and Kate is usually grooming when I’ve walked in and she will stop and say hello. Everything is exposed there. The grooming, bathing, dogs in crates, it’s great! I feel like they just all love their job and make the animals feel at ease and comfortable. I won’t think of taking my dog anywhere else now.
Bonus: When you pay, Kates adorable dog takes the payment! It’s so cute!!!

I seldom send my little dog to a groomer since she is small enough to wash myself, but every once in a while she needs a professional do over. I saw a beautifully groomed dog while at Flax’s and asked where she was groomed. That’s how I found Kate’s. My rescue poodle looks not just clean and neat, Karma looks delicate and beautiful.
Mickie was cheerful and friendly and immediately established a rapport with Karma, who allowed Mickie to pick her up without panicking, as she sometimes does, even with me.
I would recommend Kate’s to anyone!

100% satisfied with the incredible grooming my cat just received at Kate’s! This is probably one of the best «lion’s cut» my cat has ever had! I’m SO pleased! Prices are extremely reasonable (for SF). Not only did they shave her, they also BATHED her… which a lot of groomers simply skip if they’re doing the all over cut. Nails did, hairs did, ears too– my baby is looking mighty cute!

Our Goldendoodle, Bella, just turned 8… I am not sure why I didn’t take her to Kate’s right from the start as she is located right near her wonderful Vet (Dr. Morris — SF Pet Hospital).
Passing by Kate’s over the years, I finally took Bella several months ago…2 full groom sessions later, and I will always return. They are terrific. Her groomer is Mickie… so personable as is everyone here. Kate is very welcoming and it is obvious that she has instilled this in her staff.
Bella tends to be skittish with groomers, but it is so gratifying to see her wagging her tail and jumping up when we go in there.
I HIGHLY recommend this place.

Took my little cat pal here for a trim a few times and have been very satisfied every time. The staff is super friendly and listen attentively to your request. Highly recommended for your cats and dogs!

We have a Chow (not the easiest to groom). We’ve had 4 Chows over the last 20 years and other dog breeds my entire long life. I used to do most of the dog grooming myself, so I know how much work it is! I’ve worked with a lot of other groomers (here and in NYC), so to say Kate and her team do an AMAZING job is not a small compliment (and worries me it will make them too crowded to get into when we would like an appointment). But, it is always important to give kudos when it is more than well deserved! The place is really clean, and the service is always friendly and efficient. Thank you to everyone at Kate’s!

I brought my big, very furry, dirt romping, ocean swimming, arctic breed, wild man in to see kate and her grooming team. He came back to me so clean with silky flowing locks, and sleek legs and paws. SO Handsome. Everyone just has to touch him and sink their fingers in to his luxurious coat. Also, it took him over a month to start shedding again.
Highly recommended. Kate and her staff are so nice, warm and professional. I know my boy is in good hands. He comes back to me happy and relaxed, and I can tell he feels good.

We’ve taken our pup here twice. They’ve done a great job both times. Our dog has come back to us happy and smelling great. They also did a wonderful job with the sanitary trim and brushing out our chow’s significant undercoat — she is even softer now! My only complaint is that the price is a bit steep. After tip, we paid $ 100 for a wash, sanitary trim, nails and tooth brushing. I guess that’s city prices for you though and you certainly get what you pay for.

I took my Maine Coon mix to Kate’s for his very first lion cut. The cut cost about $ 90, drop off was between 9am and 11am and pickup was between 4pm and 5pm. He was done a little earlier, and they promptly called me to let me know.
The drop off was very easy! Street parking surprisingly wasn’t bad during that time, and I got a quick spot right out front for the drop off. The staff was very friendly, and I could easily see all the grooming stations from the check in desk so I was assured he would be in good hands. The place had a few dogs, but cats were in a separate room.
Most importantly, despite my cat not «liking» getting his haircut, he loved the actual lion cut. He looks great, and the cut was very even and they even gave him a pom pom tail per my request. He looks great! I know I will be coming back to Kate’s for all my future cat grooming needs. I definitely recommend this place for any type of cat or dog cut.

Kate is a doodle expert. My goldendoodle comes back from Kate’s looking like a movie star. Ask the most beautiful poodles, doodles and water dogs at the dog parks where they are groomed, and the best of the best will say Kate’s. That is why she has such a long waiting list. If Bo Obama lived here, he would go to Kate’s. She also treats the dogs very well — she obviously cares. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would!

I am giving Kate’s 5 stars because not only is my dog clean and fresh, with nicely trimmed nails — he is actually happy! Ziggy is a 12 year old VERY SHEDDY mix that gets nervous easily in new places. I decided to get him bathed since my sister is coming to visit and he is so oily you could run your car on his grease. When I dropped him off he was so scared his knees were knocking and his teeth were literally chattering. But when I picked him up about 2 hours later, he was actually sleeping under the desk next to another old dog. I couldn’t believe it! They shedded him out, trimmed his nails, and fully dried him. It was $ 55 (cash/​check only) total.
PROS:

–Reasonable price (although yes I do spend more on my dog’s hair than my own)

I would definitely recommend Kate’s since I have had harrowing experiences with other places (like Petco, where he got a staph infection). I am considering budgeting for monthly baths since the old guy looks (and smells) so great!

We decided to look for a closer groomer and Kate’s was rated highly. Really this must be by people that don’t know much about looking after animals. Kate’s treat the animals abysmally. You just have to go there to see. They are kept in metal cages, without an water or padding.
Our appointment had to be booked several months in advance. When we took our dog there, we weren’t happy with the conditions. But his grooming was overdue and we had to be somewhere that day with him. We dropped him off at 10:30am and was told they would try to have him ready for 1pm, but they would call us if he could be picked up sooner (the turn around at our normal place is 2 hours). We had heard nothing by 1:15pm, so called. We were told he would be ready at 2:30pm and to not phone again, as they would call… We arrived at 2:30pm and he was still not ready. Some dogs were free-​roaming at this point, which filled us with some confidence, but our dog was still not ready. 15 minutes later we were told he was ready, but when he was returned to us a groomer was still snipping at his hair following him outside the grooming area. The cut, needless to say, was not quite finished.
I told a friend that lives in the apartments above and she told me that the sounds of the animals crying has gotten so loud, that she has been downstairs a few times to check what they are doing. The animals are obviously crying for water. By the time we picked up my dog he was dehydrated.

Have you ever tried to wrangle a wild 5 month old kitten into a bathtub? It’s not an easy task. But dropping my little guy off in the morning and picking him up in the afternoon was really easy! The staff are very friendly, and my kitty was complimented on his sweetness (I am surprised because he is very vocal and not afraid to use his claws).
Only $ 45 for a wash, dry and nail trim, and my guy is mostly white, so the wash was much needed after his time in the clink I adopted him from, and then a surgery which caused a lot of staining on his fur. He is home now (not a single cry on the way home! what?) and softer, silkier and whiter than ever. I think he is well aware of this, because he is a happy kitten right now. Impressive execution of the salon day by Kate’s!

So, overall I think Kate’s Grooming services are good. But with every pro I experienced, there was a con waiting right behind it to balance things back out.
Pro: They offer Lion Cut services for cats.
Con: You have to book your appointment out at least a month in advance for this service.
Pro: Their pricing for this service falls within the average I’ve been charged in the past, in several cities.
Con: That average price is still $ 75. My own haircuts cost less.
Pro: When one of my kitties managed to injure herself during her appointment, Kate’s staff was proactive and took her to the vet for treatment (after getting the OK from me first) and also covered the cost.
Con: Um, my cat managed to injure herself.
Pro: My cats no longer have mats in their fur thanks to their Lion Cuts.
Con: I wish I had known what Kate’s version of a Lion Cut is — body parts were trimmed that I did not want trimmed (e.g. the back of their heads, necks) while others that I preferred were not (e.g. their tails, their legs.) However, I’m sure mentioning these preferences at any future appointments would not be an issue.
Pro: When I learned, while trying to pay, that they only accept cash or check, they offered to let me mail my payment in and gave me a pre-​stamped envelope to boot.
Con: A simple heads up of this policy (during their confirmation phone call, perhaps) would have avoided this situation entirely.
Basically, I’m not unhappy with my experience at Kate’s, not at all. I’m more or less satisfied, just not wowed. And I guess sometimes, that’s enough.
