He and his staff provide excellent care without high pressure sales tactics that some dentists use.

During the time I’ve been going to Dr. Kafayi, several years now, I’ve had nothing but good experiences at each appointment. He has a calm reassuring demeanor which is comforting when you get settled into «the chair» and doesn’t try to hustle you to get work done that isn’t really necessary. There were a few instances when I needed to see a specialist and Dr. Kafayi’s recommendations were excellent both times. The office staff including his prep assistant, dental hygienist and front desk manager, are all helpful, personal and efficient.

Best dentist ever! All of the staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. They do their best to get you in and out quickly — no time wasted. Dr. Kafayi is also very friendly. Will go to this office as long as I live in SF.

I’ve had some decent, and some questionable, dentists in the past under my insurance. I am so glad I found Dr. Kafayi’s office. I have been going to his practice for a few years now, and I echo the kudos given by most of the reviews here. A recent anecdote to add: I broke an old crown on a Saturday, Dr. Kafayi told me to just show up on Monday morning and he’d fit me in. He and his staff did so and they created a really good-​looking temporary crown, taking the time to do everything right. The price for the new ceramic crown was a LOT less than I remember my old crown costing, ~15 yrs ago. Two weeks later, the new crown was quickly installed and looks great.

I chose this dental practice randomly as I was looking for an office that accepts my Delta Dental through Medicare. In two visits, just for cleaning I have found the office professional, friendly and most importantly, interested in ME.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Kafayi for the past three years and the entire experience has been fantastic. The appointment and insurance billing process is flawless thanks to the office coordinator Alla. Dr Kafayi’s assistant Trina, makes one feel relaxed the moment you sit down. Dr. Kafayi is the most gentle dentist on the planet. No pain or discomfort ever. Almost like magic, the procedure is over and everyone is happy and smiling. I’ve never felt like «just another patient» as the entire staff takes time to answer all my questions and address any concerns. It’s so nice and refreshing to have an informative conversation with your health care professional.

I’m glad I found this dental place. Dr. Kafayi is a patient, gentle and trustworthy dentist. You don’t to worry about getting unnecessary dental work done here. Unlike other greedy and dishonest dentists, especially my previous dentist who told me I needed a lot of dental work done which I found out later that I don’t. One more big plus for this dental office is I hardly wait to be seen. Every time I get there, I get send in without waiting in the office. Most dental offices I was with always would make you wait for a while.

I’ve been to quite a few dentists in SF in the past 10 years and have never visited one more than once. They all made me feel like I was just part of the cattle they were moving through as fast as possible.
Not at Kafayi Kevin’s office! I see his hygienist more than him (which I’m glad, that means I have healthy teeth!) I’m quite squirmy because I have sensitive teeth, and she’s always so patient and kind. She makes sure not to use any of the tools and does everything by hand during teeth cleanings. When she speaks to me, I actually feel like she cares about my health and isn’t reciting the same old mumbo jumbo.
I’m always in and out of there pretty quickly, but I always feel taken care of. Thank you!

Dr. Kafayi is the best dentist I have ever had and I’m 71years old, so that’s saying a lot because I’ve been to quite a few over the years. His offices are so clean and pleasant, that I even look forward to any wait time, which is rare. His entire staff is exemplary, and a special shout out in that regard to the Office Assistant Alla. Dr. Kafayi is always considerate of my budget needs and takes care not to do unnecessary procedures, which is a definite plus for me. His manner is very professional and gracious.

My previous experience with the Delta Dental HMO, when I was working full time, was extremely negative. I found myself treated as a second class client by the dental group I had signed up with.
Now that I’m retired I was very concerned about once again having to use the Delta Dental HMO through my medicare insurance. I actually went to Unilocal to look for a dentist and found Dr. Kafayi’s office and decided to give him a try. Let me say that I could not be happier.
Everyone in the office is just great — friendly and efficient, with all the latest equipment. Dr. Kafayi is hands-​on and very clear with his instructions and explanations. The entire staff is friendly, knowledgeable and efficient.
The one time when I needed to be referred out of his office, Dr. Kafayi sent me to a specialist who did a great job and, like Dr. Kafayi’s office, worked out a payment plan that I could handle on social Security.
I cannot say enough positive about my experience with Dr. Kafayi and everyone at his office.

I picked Dr. Kafayi, because of the location. I checked the reviews and they were very good. I’ve been to his office only twice. The first time was for cleaning and check up.
My first impression the moment I stepped into his office was that the office is clean, tidy and well lit. The dental hygienist was very good and gentle. Their equipments are modern. Dr. Kafayi did the check up and I was out of the office in no time. The front office staff is knowledgeable and helpful. My next appointment was set up and I went again. The cleaning was again very pleasant and quick.
Yes. I have found my dentist! I’ll be going to Dr. Kafayi.

2. They don’t try to «sell» you something you don’t need

Dr. Kafayi’s was one of the most pleasant experiences I’ve ever had at a dentist. He was very professional, started out with correctly identified the problematic teeth, eg. a gap in a filling was causing gum irritation, which I hadn’t even noticed myself. He politely explained exactly what was going on so that I was never nervous. (White thing approaching my mouth? «I’m gonna dry this area.» «Now you’re gonna feel some vibrations.» «I’m using an ultrasonic scaler… There’s gonna be a lot of water»).
During my experience having a crown put in, he and his assistants earned my trust that they would put everything else on hold to ensure that the job is done perfectly. He won’t let it go if it’s a fraction of a millimeter off. That’s dedication to excellence. I’m definitely coming back here for all my dental needs as long as I’m in San Francisco.
Update: I’ve been coming here for 3 years now and I still stand by my original review above!
Pricing is reasonable and they accept Aetna and UHC insurance. But of course you should double check with your insurance provider before you go in case things have changed!

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed the incredible Dr. Kafayi and his illustrious staff in all these years. He was recommended by a new acquaintance at a Nowrūz celebration a few years ago and regardless of where I’ve lived, I’ve returned to SF at least every six months.
Painless, comfortable, staff who are keenly aware of billing codes so you don’t get overcharged by your insurance, and one of the most quaint and relaxing waiting areas ever (Planet Earth DVDs playing, Zen fountain, New and varied magazines, cozy upholstered wing chairs).
If you can get in here, you will never find a better dentist. I have kept my same private Delta coverage for years just to stay with these guys and I hope that never changes.
Also, the Sutter garage in five doors away and the parking there is $ 1 an hour before 9 AM.
