It was a typical Friday night in the Castro, and I(mixed race, Black) was with my two best friends(male, mixed race and Black) hopping from bar to bar. One friend wanted a bottle of water, so we tried to walk into this convenience store. Both owners stopped us at the door, hands up, sharply saying, «No, you can’t come in! Wait your turn! Back up.» The problem? Three other(completely unrelated) Black people had walked into the store before us. The shopkeepers wouldn’t believe us when we said those people were complete strangers and that we were two separate groups. I think they were concerned that we would shoplift, but the way that they treated us, as potential customers and fellow human beings, was completely unacceptable. Needless to say, we did not«wait our turn» to give money to shopkeepers who blatantly discriminated against us, and we walked across the street to the Chevron where a very nice man sold us a bottle of water without causing a scene. I am still reeling from this encounter and will never be shopping here again.

So yesterday the guy who runs this place played an awesome prank on us props to whoever you are, we were seriously pissed then thought we were on candid camera. But what i love about this place is all the different size bottles of booze, small medium, larger, great if you just want to sneak a little in to a club. Also there’s a microwave, which no one has.

I think this place serves a purpose in the neighborhood and I stop there when I don’t want to trek down to Safeway or pay the same price for a bottle of wine at Mollie Stones. I wish they were open earlier, but they do stay open very late. I find the staff friendly(although I have been going there for years and they know me). I even have requested they stock certain items and they have. So if you feel they should pick up your tab if you are short on money I disagree and they do have a lot of people who steal from them so they can be suspicious. All in all they are a good little store to have in the neighborhood in my opinion.

First, I live in this neighborhood, and stop in once and a while. The hours are convenient and the store is reasonably clean. Second. I have to thank Danny, who works there most of the time. His is personable, friendly, and even went far out of his way to save the life of one of my pets who got loose and ran by the front of his store. If the store were owned by Danny, I’d give 10 stars. But it’s not, and I don’t feel the owner cares much about the neighborhood. She is quite cold, and as other reviewers have noted, there are often drunks hanging around the store front on late evenings. Not good for the neighborhood. But the store has everything I’ve needed, and I have never seen any outdated or grossly overpriced items. I’ll still go there, especially when Danny is working.

I see someone must have been paid or been comped to write a 5 star review. Well I guess if your a drunk, drug addict, thief or vagrant this is the place for you. The owners are not friendly, Danny is great though, and they care nothing about the neighborhood and are a nuisance. Their business generates garbage from all over the block, they allow people to drink out front, then the customers urinate all around the block, their customers are loud and disruptive in the neighborhood and the owners dont even TRY to do anything about it. Few people that live in the neighborhood will frequent the place. I have had bad and expired food there as well as being short changed on more than one occasion by the lady owner. The business is a nuisance and I can only hope they go out of business soon!

I love to shoplift. I didn’t know this, but the woman behind the counter is clairvoyant. In fact, she must be SUPER psychic because she knew that I was going to shoplift before the thought even entered my mind. Sure, I was carrying a large purse, but it contained my work slacks and cardigan since I just hauled my ass up a freaking mountain in an attempt to burn calories before work. Look Lady — Unless we’ve been drinking and you’re planning on taking me home and groping me later, there’s no reason to follow me around a convenience store. Maybe next time I’ll steal a hershey bar. Oh, and tampons — extra absorbent and scented.

I have a huge soft spot for KD’s Liquor. Many a drunken night I have been there when I needed to fulfill my sweet tooth. It’s also right on the way home from a bad day when I need some wine. Now, you people that frequent Casto must have seen it and have probably been there at least once. Right on the corner on Castro and Market this is the most convenient place to stop by if you are on your way home drunk and need some munchies or perhaps you get off at the station and just need to pick up some wine on the way home. KD’s actually has quite a selection of things for a convenience store and really everyone there is super nice. That is even more amazing when you think of all the drunk people that show up there(I have seen you and maybe been one!).

So this place could be run by not only the biggest cheapskate on the planet, but also the dumbest business owner EVER… I go in to buy a bottle of water for $ 2.29 and a stick of Beef Jerky for $ 1.00…I was getting done with a long bike ride and I did not have a ton of cash on me… Ok, so the part of not having that much cash on me is my fault, but when I get to the counter to pay I was .14 cents short and the counter clerk would not spot me the .14 cents… Ok, so let’s think about this for a second… We all know the water is marked up like 200% and this idiot decides to lose a measly sale for .14 cents… LETSGETREALPEOPLE .14 cents…

First review! This place is right next to the exit from the castro muni(the one on the other side of the street). So, i often stop in here on my way home to pick up –no, not liquor– milk. On the outside it says liquor store, but in addition, it is also a convenience store. So when i need anything last minute, but no time to go to the real store, i go here. Plus, it’s open till 2am, which i just discovered. PS you can get your alcohol here, but i never have. So no idea of how good the selection or prices are for that. But buy your milk and etc!
