History

Established in 2009.

Jennifer Toy always had a passion for beauty ever since she was a young child. It wasn’t until college that this passion took off. She realized her true calling was to express her art by working on the canvas of the human face. Jennifer’s love for makeup artistry progressed from being just a hobby to being a life-​changing career. Upon receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics, Jennifer decided to pursue her passion of art in the form of makeup.

Jennifer’s creativity and free-​spirited attitude was the perfect complement to her becoming a successful makeup artist for M.A.C. Cosmetics. Through working with makeup artists and trainers from the leading cosmetics company in the industry, Jennifer developed her unique style and interpretation for makeup artistry. M.A.C. Cosmetics opened countless doors for Jennifer to stand out as a young talent in the bustling and ever-​changing beauty and fashion industries.

Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival is one of my favorite times of the year. Three days full of magical people watching. Three days full of hazy crowds. Three days full of blissful music. Three days of me waking up early to go big.
And by big — I mean I go big.
I am probably the only person that I know that will go out of their way to get dolled up for Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. I will buy outfits for each day. I will style my hair. I will stock up on healthy food. And yes — every year — I will get my makeup done professionally. I go big — because you just never know who you’re going to meet at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. Truly.
Jen from JT Artistry has done my make-​up three times now for Hardly Strictly Bluegrass and she has done an amazing job each time. I have been thoroughly impressed by her professionalism throughout all of our interactions.
She is quick to respond. She is thorough in all of her follow-​up questions. She is reasonably priced — considering her years of experience and talents. And best of all — she is flexible and willing to travel to you — the day of. Amazing.

I booked Jen to do my hair and makeup for my outdoor wedding last October, and she did a fantastic job!
Jen was quick to reply to emails, and was flexible about where the trial would be (could be at my place in SF or hers). She’s very friendly and easy to work with, professional, and does great work. My makeup looked extremely natural, both in person and in photos, and lasted all day (even though it drizzled a little at our outdoor wedding!) My hair looked great as well. She also gave me a lip gloss (the one that she had applied on me) to keep with me in case I needed to reapply later.
I highly recommend Jen for any bride/​bridal party — you are guaranteed to look beautiful on your big day!

I have worked with Jen, corporately and privately, on many occasions and always recommend her to people seeking talented makeup artists. I first met Jen when I hired her for our photo shoots at a clothing design company. She is very easy to work with, sociable, and professional. She asks for honest feedback to continue to perfect her skill set and makes sure that her work is in line with your vision. We continued to hire her on as our preferred makeup artist as often as we could. Because her schedule fills up fast, we would lose her to other gigs sometimes so book quick and in advance!
I recently hired her for a wedding that I was coordinating for someone very special to me. Jen was very accommodating while scheduling for a trial session and took her time to listen to the bride’s dream wedding makeover.
This was also the first time that I hired her to do MY makeup and hair! I’m usually really fussy with makeup and hairstyles because I’m plain (and incapable of producing anything close to presentable). She gave me beautiful loose curls because I told her I like my hair to be light and the makeup she did was comfortable to wear all day.
Jen is very punctual and fun to work with. It is really hard to find a makeup artist you trust and enjoy working with but when you find them, you don’t let go!

Jen recently did my hair and makeup for my wedding and she was amazing. She was referred to me from a close friend because I really liked the work she did on my friend. I contacted her via email to discuss her pricing and set everything up. She is always responsive and her answers are very detailed. I opted to do a trial session with her for my engagement shoot and was very happy with the end result and how I looked in the photos. It was a great opportunity to get a feel for her style, personality and work. I was also able to take note of things I’d like to tweek for my day off hair/​makeup.
On my wedding day Jen showed up on time and ready to go. She did my 2 bridemaid’s hair, my hair and makeup as well as the makeup for my mom and mother in law. I did not request an extra assistant but despite that fact, we actually finished EARLY! My bridesmaids and I had extra time to relax, eat, and get dressed. The makeup and hair lasted the entire day and I got many many compliments.
To sum it all up, Jen is an amazing person to work with. She has a very relaxed and calm personality and is super fun and easy to talk to. I felt like we just hit it off from the moment we met. I was so happy to have her there on my wedding day because it was just one less thing I had to worry/​stress about. She listens to your needs and is ready to make suggestions on what looks best. She is great at what she does and is a true professional. If I ever need my hair and makeup professional done again, I wouldn’t hesitate to go to Jen.

Jen and her team did an amazing job for my wedding. I really wanted someone who knew how to do make-​up on Asians. I’ve gotten makeovers before where my eye make up looks horrendous. Jen also did a fantastic job with the hair and make-​up for my non-​Asian MOH and Mother-​in-​law. Both the moms wanted a natural look and they got just what they wanted. I got so many compliments on my make-​up, even my photographer commented that I hired a really great make-​up artist! I appreciated the continuity between my trial and my wedding day — Jen delivered and adjusted exactly what I asked for. IDK when I’ll ever need a make-​up artist again but, if I do, I’ll be calling Jen.

Jennifer does amazing work! She gave me a complete makeover and knew exactly what I wanted. She is so personable, friendly, and genuine it’s so hard to not feel completely relaxed and comfortable around her. I rarely like the outcome when someone else does my makeup — I normally don’t come out looking like «me» anymore. Not with Jennifer! She accentuated my best features and didn’t cover me in a mask of makeup. She also taught me some cool new tricks so I can replicate it at home! Definitely will be contacting her for future hair and makeup needs!

After having a difficult time finding someone to do my makeup for my wedding, I stumbled upon Jen. She was easy to work with, super professional, knew how to work with my features, and most importantly, listened to what I wanted. I have sensitive skin and my hair was not the easiest to work with so I was anxious to see what she could do. It turns out she has a magical touch :)
Once we did the trial I knew I was in capable hands and would have one less thing to worry about on the big day. Jennifer Toy recently did my makeup and hair for a photo shoot and did an outstanding job. To begin with, she instantly made me feel comfortable. She was on set for the shoot and this was our first time meeting. She made me feel very relaxed which eased my nerves for the shoot.
Normally, I don’t wear a lot of makeup. I am always worried that the makeup artist is going to go «overload» on my makeup. The makeup didn’t turn out heavy or thick. For someone who doesn’t wear a lot of makeup regularly, this was a DREAM come true! I also normally don’t do much to my hair. I stay away from curlers in fear of looking like a poodle. Jennifer curled my hair and gave me a very volume wavy sexy look.

Jen did my makeup for my wedding day, and was absolutely amazing to work with. She is no drama, professional, friendly and very, very good at her job! She and an assistant did hair and makeup for my entire bridal party (5 people), and the whole process was incredibly smooth, and everyone loved the results!
For bridal sessions, Jen does a «trial» appointment with the bride before the big day. This proved to be essential to making sure we got all the details decided in advance, and it was also just a lot of fun to get your hair and makeup done (felt like I was with one of my girlfriends because Jen is so easy to talk to)!
I did research before I booked Jen, and found her rates to be competitive with other make up artists in the area. I would happily book her again for other events. She is worth every penny!

I met Jen at a Hepatitis B awareness campaign calendar photoshoot a few years ago and I was really impressed with her skills. Having utilized many makeup artists and stylists in my time as a former Miss Asian California, I always had Jen in the back of my mind as someone who truly cared about the structure of your face and what style of makeup/​hair look best with your specific features. She is incredibly pleasant and fun to work with and I can say she has definitely mastered the art. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to find an artist who can give you anywhere from a flawless natural look to a beautiful glamorous look.

I met Jen at the Modern Bridal Fashion Show in San Francisco. She is so easy to talk to and just a pleasure to be around.
When she was doing my makeup for the fashion show I had no idea what the director had ask for but I knew it would be classy and dramatic. When I finally got to see myself I was BLOWN AWAY! I did not look or feel like a had a ton of makeup on (even though runway makeup is heavier). My eyes really popped, the contouring was done so beautifully and the overall effect was gorgeous. Jen did my daughters makeup, my daughter is 13 and it was for a photo shoot. I asked Jen to keep it very minimal and age appropriate and we got what we asked for. I’ve known Jen for quite some time now and have worked with her numerous of times. I believe the first time I’ve ever worked with her was for the SF Hep B Free Campaign calendar shoot back in 2010. Meeting her for the first time felt like we had already been friends for years!

I wanted to treat myself recently and I thought …“What about getting that makeup lesson from Jen?!”
Now I have done a fair amount of professional makeup jobs, being in the beauty industry, but that specific «pro/​polished» look eluded me all these years IMO despite the books, classes, product and youtube videos!
Jen is SO easy to work with. Very mellow. I do realize it helps that both of our backgrounds are in working with MAC makeup. We spent an hour and a half going over what makeup I had, what didn’t match/​work and technique. Her skills and expertise are invaluable. Details make a HUGE difference.
I have since picked up a couple of the brushes and product I didn’t have in my kit and would’ve never thought of getting. Every suggestion was completely right on.
Wonderful gift to give yourself!!! Every woman should do it.

Jen is an amazing makeup & hair artist who I would recommend to anyone. She has beautified me twice before, and I look forward to working with her more! She has the ability to achieve just the look you are asking for. Also, she is very professional and you can tell she has a lot of experience. She did great natural yet glamorous makeup with false eye lashes as well as curled hair on me.
The second time Jen did my makeup, I had to swim under water in a pool for a photo shoot. After being under water, the makeup miraculously stayed put! That was another sign that Jen uses quality products and applies the products very efficiently! She really knows what she is doing. Jen is fun to work with and easy to get along with. You won’t be disappointed with her :)
