Joey is awesome! She listened to what I wanted and offered great suggestions about cut and color that fit with my style. She was very empathetic when my head was itching like crazy from the bleach, and she even went to the length of washing the bleach out and re-​applying a less itchy formula — a time-​consuming step that may have annoyed other stylists. She was super flexible when I changed my mind about the color more than halfway thru my appointment, too. She’s fast, efficient, easy to talk to and has great vision.

I told joey that every time I get a haircut I get the Jennifer aniston… not this time. Joey has given me the most flattering haircut of my life!

This hair stylist is only for people with thin hair who want eccentric cuts. I went there three times and she couldn’t do a simple cut on my bulkier hair. She gave me a full refund.

Joey is an incredible stylist. I have natural curl to my hair, which at 31 I am beginning to embrace and appreciate. A few weeks ago Joey gave me a fantastic cut specifically for curly hair (like a deva cut), and it’s still looking rad.
She took care to check the cut rather than hurrying me along. Also, she offered me a quick return visit a few days afterward in case I didn’t like something about the cut. Not the case at all! I love it!

The best haircut of my life! Not only do I think so, but I have received countless compliments on the cut. In fact I have already been stopped on the street (more than once) by strangers to ask who cuts my hair. She listened to what I wanted. She listened to what amount of upkeep and styling I was interested in doing. She really looked at me and gave me a cut that worked best for me and my face. And it was amazing! All of that and she is also delightful to talk to and easy to work with. In my two visits so far, I have left feeling great, in a better mood (oh, and also looking not too shabby). I am ruined now — I won’t even be able to go anywhere else — because no one could compare.

Joey is fantastic. She really listens to what you want, gives suggestions, and spends purposeful time making what you both agree upon a reality– and her cuts always turn out fabulous. I originally started going to Joey about 3 years ago– after my partner found a review saying Joey is the best in SF at giving radical, cool queer haircuts. 3 years later and this is still true.
And you could not ask for a hair stylist who is more warm, and picks up on what mood you are in– if you want to chat, talk about real stuff or just make small talk, or just want some time to sit quietly ruminating on your life. Up until getting haircuts with Joey, as an introvert I always mildly dreaded the social anxiety of having to talk to someone for 30mins-​1hr.
Joey is such a genuine, and talented hair stylist, and holistically is able to deliver what you want– both for your hair and for your experience.

Three words… magical queer haircuts. That’s right, I said it. I not only love my haircut every single time, 4 years worth of them, but I just love catching up with Joey and the whole experience. I am very picky and knew from the first haircut that Joey was an awesome mix of professional, rad, great conversationalist, and overall badass. I have since moved to Oakland and still come to SF once a month to have my haircut and see Joey. To put it simply if you want an awesome queer haircut – Joey is the only option.

Joey’s a magician with my curly hair and queer gender. My hair always looks great for way longer than anyone with a cut this short should be able to let it slide between haircuts. Plus, it looks like me. She doesn’t turn short haircuts into pixie cuts or make me look like every other dude at the barbershop. Best queer haircut in San Francisco.

I’ve been going to Joey for my cut for almost 3 years now. I have curly hair which I like to keep short, and it can be a real challenge to find a stylist who understands how to work with my hair texture. Joey has fantastic skills and my cuts grow out really well. She is also super fun to hang out with– important when you’re sitting in someone’s chair for 45 min. If you’re looking for an awesome queer hair cut in San Francisco, Joey’s your person.

Joey has given me the best haircuts of my life! She does this amazing thing in the back called the «mermaid,» which involves various layers and makes my fine hair swing and look full. She has had great suggestions for color (ombré, pink, highlights + funky color on the bottom) and the color always turns out amazing. She is also the nicest person, and always takes notes on what we’ve done so we don’t have to reinvent the wheel. I will keep getting my hair done by Joey until she retires: D

I’ve been going to Joey ever since I moved to San Francisco and then even after I moved to the East Bay. 7 years maybe? Or probably even more.
For the past year I’ve been growing out my hair to donate and she helped me snip off my two thick 13.5″ pigtails and gave me an amazing super short angled bob. She is AMAZING with short hair. I took my husband to her a while ago and she gave him an amazing cut that made him look 10 years younger — everyone loved it!
It’s mind-​boggling that she can do this all in under an hour! And I love that she takes notes each time so she can look back on what was done previously. Super professional!
She’s the sweetest gal — you won’t go wrong!

Yeah Baby! Any time I am in the Mission I want Joey to do my hair!
Love the way she cuts it! Love the way she colors it! Sometimes just dark browns to cover my silver and grey and sometimes something really fun like deep velvet blue and purple undertones. Always done right! She also helps me maintain the health of my hair and that is no small feat when you consider the many costumes and get ups and outdoors and swimming I put my hair through. Add to that she is a styl’n beautiful, inspiring empath and its just a wonderful treat to have your lay hands on your scalp and work her magic! I will go any time I am near!

After searching for the right person (2 stylist before Joey) I finally found the one. «The one» because I am super picky as I am sure everyone else out there is as well. She truly is! She was referred to me by a friend over a year ago and ever since then its been true love, hehehe! Joey really takes her time with you from the minute you walk in. On her initial visit she will jot down all your information so each time you go back she will remember exactly what you had. This has made my visit with her extremely easy to explain what I want each time I go back. She listens, she will ask questions until you are sure you both are on the same page.
I cannot stress how happy I am with my haircuts. Each haircut has been a different experience with Joey. The last hair cut was a bit too short for me in the back but this is what I asked for and to this day, it has been the best haircut I have had with Joey. It really has made me feel a lot more confidant with myself, because that is what an awesome haircut can do for you!!! Seriously! My haircuts are complimented all the time. I have had so many people ask me where I got my haircut and tell me, they love the way I style it. A great style only comes with a great haircut.
Joey is not only an amazing hairdresser, she is a really cool person to get a haircut with, a professional by all means. My last hairdresser was cool until one day when she… talked so much about her stressful night with another hairdresser next to me, walked in late to my 8:00am appointment or she forgot, picked up all her phone calls gossiping about her night, her hands were shaky and so I came out of there with a lop sided haircut that took me back to her twice! Well that was the end of it with her. You will not get this with Joey. It’s her, her scissors and you. :) She is worth every penny!

I have never taken the time to write a Unilocal review, so it is significant that I am choosing to do so for Joey.
I have been getting my hair cut and colored by Joey for several years (at least 5… maybe more). She has always been a great stylist, but she continues to grow and develop her skills. I just got my hair cut by her yesterday and she busted out her new razor skills, which resulted in a super cute shaggy bob. I’m loving my new hair and have been getting compliments all day! I love that she is constantly working on staying up to date and is always offering cutting edge service.
Joey is also easy to relate to and I always look forward to catching up with her during our appointments! Lastly, I love the salon she is at now, Glamarama! I highly recommend Joey as a stylist!

oh Joey… bear in mind that there is no way for me to start explaining how much I love coming to her without sounding like a crazy fanatic. I’ll start with the fact that I like to divide my life into two periods: Before Joey (pre-​2005), and After Joey (2005-​present day).
Before: I have had people either pretty much butcher my hair or do not much at all to it. I’ve had them promise 1 inch and take off 3, or thin out my thick hair with a razor without asking first if I wanted it done that way, because they don’t know what else to do with it… and then charge me extra because I have more hair than most people. yay.
After: cue: glory, glory, halleluuuujah. So much has happened in life since 2005, but Joey remains a warm, safe and happy constant. I have since finished school and moved to Sacramento for work (cry), but you could not pay me to try anyone else.
Yes, it might seem crazy that I drive all that way every 7 – 8 weeks (based on the looks i get when people ask me where I get my hair done I take it a 1.5 hour drive isn’t a normal part of most people’s hair routine), but what would actually be crazy would be to find a new hair stylist when I’ve already found the best one around. (And it’s not that the cut needs to be redone every 7 – 8 weeks – it grows out beautifully every time. My hair just grows that fast and I get a little antsy if i don’t visit SF enough.)
And yes, at this point I consider her a friend, but trust me – one bad haircut along the way and we wouldn’t be having this (one sided) conversation. Call me shallow, but my hair means that much to me – especially since I rely on being able to towel dry it, sleep, get up and go. Hand me a blow dryer and I’d only use it to warm up my fingers and toes in the winter. Going on EIGHT years of regular hair cuts and every single one has been great.
Joey loves her work and it shows. She isn’t afraid of a risk if you aren’t, but she would never force one on you either. She takes her time to get it right for your type of hair and your face. She’s warm and friendly and easy to talk to without making you talk the whole time if you don’t want to. Seriously, if you live in the city, take advantage.

Four weeks and one day ago Joey cut my hair and it still looks fresh and stylish! I haven’t even needed to use the drop-​in touch-​ups she generously offered. Joey is professional, personable, service driven and passionate about her art. She invests in her work to stay on the cutting edge creatively. With Joey, you get so much more than you pay for.

Joey is awesome! For years, I bounced around between stylists until I found Joey. She’s been cutting my hair for several years, and she never disappoints! She always listens to my ideas and also has suggestions of her own. She’s creative and really enjoys trying new things.
Besides being great with hair, Joey is just fun to hang out with. I always look forward to seeing her and feel super-​handsome when I leave. What more can you ask for… It’s better (and cheaper) than therapy!
Also, I love glama-​rama in general. All the staff are super friendly. The art is always changing. It’s fun.

Joey is your dream stylist. Brilliant with the scissors, the razor, and the coloring, she’ll make you gorgeous. And she’s got the eye to know what’s going to work and what isn’t, so she can help you navigate new haircut fears and desires and settle on something just right. It had been years (a decade, maybe) since I’d had a steady person I went to for haircuts when I stumbled on Joey. At this point I’ve been seeing her for about 5 years and can’t imagine going anywhere else. Never once has she failed me.
Also, her french bulldog is the Cutest with a capital C.

I’ve been seeing the same gal for over 6 years. I had to stray because I waited for the last minute to get my haircut and she was booked up for a few more weeks. I decided to give Joey a chance, given the reviews and pics here. I sport a short cut year round, and going to Joey was a fantastic experience. I’ve gotten so many compliments from this cut. She also gave me bangs that I’ve Never had before. I wasn’t sure how this would go down, but everyone has told me how good my hair looks, so I’m going to say it went down well. Even my male coworkers have complimented my haircut. When men notice your hair and actually say something, I think that’s a huge sign that you have a slammin’ haircut.
She also asks lots of questions and is genuinely concerned about how your hair’s going to look, how you maintain it and what your preferences are. I liked the way she gave me a new spin on what I thought was an old cut.

I always get, «Your haircut is really cute! Where’d you get it done?» from my BFF Joey. She has been cutting my hair now for almost 2 years. She is the honest to goodness BEST out there. I refer all my friends to her. My cousin just got her hair done by Joey and it is soooo cute!
Joey has this amazing ability to see the future. You can tell her what you want and she’ll be able to tell you if it’ll work or not. She actually takes time to find a look that will work for you. When I chopped off all my hair and got an A-​line cut, everyone was asking me who did it. Go to her! She’ll be your new BFF.
