Jeffrey M Davidson, MD

I went to this guy a while back and the experience has not left me since. He is off his rockers. I developed asthma and needed to use an inhaler. He asked if I knew how to use one and I said yes (my father has asthma and I have seen people in general use it [plus plenty of movies — «Goonies» anyone?]). He asked me to demonstrate, which I did (place mouth on the inhaler, pump/​breathe in the mist). He told me I was doing it wrong (excuse me?). He told me to pump it outside my mouth, where I should make an «O» and breathe in. I was thinking that he was kidding but he wasn’t. He is as condescending as other reviewers have stated. He made me demo it his way before our visit concluded. So I pump the meds into the air where it dissipates and I inhale nothing (?)! He needs to go back to med school. What a loone!

Dr. Davidson, While clearly extremely busy, takes as much time as necessary to fully investigate and listen to your issues. I felt after coming here for 6 months that I had received the best care possible which is impressive, and unusual given how in-​demand his practice is. I found his staff is also quite helpful and professional, I assume most of them them are actually aspiring doctors or PAs.

It’s hard to believe that there’s still a doctor’s office like this any more: a real person answers the phone and takes detailed notes on your symptoms – not passing you off or leaving you on hold; there’s no time to catch up on People Magazine in his no-​waiting room; and Dr. Davidson spends seemingly unlimited time getting a thorough history and giving detailed explanations of your treatment. He returns phone calls promptly, and has been helpful in obtaining immediate relief without waiting for an office visit. His large staff is congenial and efficient – even his billing clerk has an engaging personality. Chronic asthma under poor control (which I mistook for allergies) was treated aggressively and effectively with silver-​bullet medications, and he has monitored my improvement conscientiously ever since.

Dr. Davidson is incredibly thoughtful, smart, caring, and up to speed on current research and best practices. His entire team is also extraordinarily friendly and helpful. You will be in great hands if you seek care with Dr. Davidson and I would highly recommend his practice to any family members or loved one who needed to see an allergist or immunologist. I can’t praise him enough!

I’ve been meaning to write this review for a while…
Well, I kind of wanted to wait to see how my allergy shots worked out first. Looking at the time commitment and the cost can easily be a deterrent. In fact, I had gone to an allergist previously and backed out of shots for that very reason. So why did I «pull the trigger this time»? I had been taking steroid nasal spray for a year and a half. It worked wonders but ultimately led to a degradation of my vision. I had to stop the steroids forever. Ultimately, in the next month my allergies got SO bad that often times I had to take 2 Benadryl and knock myself out. I was missing out on life. At that point I decided enough was enough.
I came to see Dr. Davidson and he and his staff have taken GREAT care of me. I had to go through 30 weeks of allergy shots in order to get to the point I am at now ALLERGY FREE!!! I don’t take daily allergy medicine anymore and I definitely owe it to Dr. Davidson and his wonderful staff. They always make me feel so welcome and the wi-​fi in the lobby helps so that my visits aren’t a complete isolation from my work and my day. The office is close to BART and there is a Starbucks a few doors down.
Don’t hesistate. Start the allergy shot cycle and definitely do it with Dr. Davidson!

I cannot say enough about what Dr. D and his associates have done for me.
My allergies were wreaking havoc in my life when six years ago last month my primary doc recommended seeing an allergist. Dr. Davidson was her referral of choice. She stated that she had several patients who had very good experiences with him.
After the usual battery of allergy tests and questions by Dr. Davidson I was given a clear and thourogh explanation of my allergies. At that point Dr. D answered the many questions I had and suggested several options including allergy imune therapy. I opted to try the more conservative treatments first. They offered some help but no match for the serious allergies I contend with. I have to admit I was very skeptical about the whole allergy shots thing but soon decided I had nothing to loose and perhaps a lot to gain. During the first few months of frequent shots I was glad I choose Dr. Davidson’s office. His offices are quiet, clean, professional and comfortable and the staff made me kinda look forward to coming to see them and getting pricked with a small needle on a regular basis for the first few months.
That said, I just came from having my yearly checkup (6 yrs. allergy free) with Dr. Davidson and I realize I have never posted a Unilocal on the TEAM who changed my life for the better. I now get shots just once a month and I have no signs/​symptoms of allergies AT ALL.
I would also like to add that his team has been very helpful in the last three weeks in a battle I had with Brown and Toland in getting them to pay their share of my allergy related «Epi» pen. In the end, his medical assistant Robert and office manager Jessica ended up handling all of the phone calls with the insurance company, managed to get a case manager at B&T to call me and apologize + I didn’t have to pay a dime for my «Epi» pen. Thanks you Robert, Jessica, Ayelet, Yeriko and of course Dr. D you guys truly are a dream team:)

And the staff was also friendly!

Still love him. A week or so ago I called and Left a message with his answering service regarding the problems I was having. He got back to me very quickly and let me know what I should do, and then I was able to schedule a follow-​up appointment quickly

Probably the most rude Doctor I have ever come across. He didn’t want to listen to a word I had to say. When he asked ME a question and I started to answer he snapped back at me and said «Answer only Yes or No, only YES OR NO».
When I came up allergic to a particular food item (which has never happened to me before) I asked, what I thought to be, a very logical question… «what does that mean for me?», he snapped back «Don’t eat it» and continued to write on my chart with his back to me.
Why anyone would pay someone to treat you so horribly is beyond me.

Dr. Davidson has been my allergist and asthma specialist since 2010. I originally went to him after doing a lot of research on the allergists in my area and he seemed top notch. Boy was I right!
Dr. Davidson has gotten my allergies and asthma under control and just like the other reviewers have said, he is straightforward, professional, and gives clear explanations to any questions you might have. I have found him to be nothing but friendly and kind, and his staff and assistants are great as well. Another big plus: THEY’RE PUNCTUAL. For someone who is always early or on time, I cannot express how happy I am to have a doctor and staff that know how to manage their office.

Dr. Davidson has been my allergist for 3 years, and my allergies and asthma are finally under control. I’ve had allergies since I was a child and have tried immunotherapy (allergy shots) twice about ten years ago. It was the reoccurence of asthma in my late 30s that made me seek out a third allergist. It’s only due to Dr. Davidson and his staff that I’ve stuck to 3 years of shots and am seeing the benefits.
Dr. D’s shot regimen is strict (you must bring your epipen, your breathing must pass the peak flow meter test, and you must sit for 30 mins post shot), but he’s reasonable. The strictness is to avoid having any patient go into anaphylactic shock, which I appreciate. His flexibility was shown when I moved to the East Coast after a year of shots. As long as i continue to see him yearly, his office will send the serum to my East Coast allergist to administer. He’s saving me from undergoing another round of testing and starting from square one with the 3 – 4 year shot regimen.
I credit the quality, professionalism and good nature of Dr. D’s staff for my commitment to the shots. During the first year, I received shots once/​week. Let’s be honest — if you don’t like the Dr. or his staff (which was true of my first and second allergists), then you won’t get the shots every week. His office and staff make the experience as pleasant as possible. The office has wifi, comfortable chairs, and is centrally located in downtown SF.
Finally, Dr. D is the first allergist that has created a «plan» for me. Based on the results of my peak flow meter, I alter the dosage of my medication when needed. What sets Dr. D apart from other allergists — and doctors — is that he takes time to explain why (the strict regimen, the medication dosage, etc.). I’m happy to say that after 3 years of shots, my usage of medication (antihistamine, inhaler) has dropped by more than half.

Dr. Davidson was straightforward and very professional, and he gave me clear explanations and lots of context for my questions. I was very happy with his approach, and he helped me identify my allergen in the most efficient way possible.
As a bonus, he also convinced me to test my claim that I was allergic to Penicillin. I had been told I was allergic to it by my parents ever since childhood, and he informed me that about 90% of people who think they’re allergic to it actually aren’t! he explained why you might not want to falsely believe that you are allergic (the alternatives are very harsh) and so I signed up to test my claim. Sure enough, I was not allergic to it and after an afternoon in his office (which has great wifi), I was on my way!

I couldn’t be happier with Dr. Davidson and his staff (sorry, I didn’t remember everyone’s names…). Dr. Davidson saw me on short notice so I could inquire about allergy testing for bee stings. He did a thorough examination and indicated that I was not a good candidate for a full allergy testing. He did, however, note my increased risk for bee sting issues so he prescribed me an EpiPen.
I really appreciated Dr. Davidson’s calm and inquisitive demeanor, and felt that he had my best interest in mind the entire time. He had a good explanation as to why I was not an appropriate candidate for the entire allergy testing procedure, and I felt comforted that he still prescribed medicine to protect me in case things do escalate. His staff all seemed very knowledgeable, and each one of them were very friendly. I would definitely recommend Dr. Davidson to others, and will go back again if/​when future treatment is needed.

My doctor referred me to Dr Davidson six months ago because I had hives that wouldn’t go away. Dr Davidson’s technician Alex saw me within minutes of my arrival there. After he took my medical history and left, Dr Davidson showed up within minutes. I found him very sympathetic and easy to talk to. He really cared about how I was feeling. He explained that hives are sometimes difficult to tie to any specific allergen, and can be hard to cure.
It took some weeks for him to find the right medication for me, but he was always very good at explaining the different courses of treatment he was going to try. Because he was so thorough and forthcoming, I felt he was really listening to me and trying out the best options for me, not just experimenting with different medications as though I were a guinea pig. He was very good about follow-​up phone calls and about scheduling follow-​up visits when I needed.
He also suspected that I might have a long-​term endocrinological condition, and strongly recommended I go see an endocrinologist. My primary care doctor was reluctant to give me the referral to an endocrinologist, as he did not agree with Dr Davidson. But ultimately I got the referral, and bingo, the endocrinologist confirmed Dr Davidson’s hunch was right. The fact that Dr Davidson suspected something that my primary doctor had missed showed what a smart diagnostician and physician he is.
During the time we were still figuring out a good medication for me, he had to be away for a few days. He told me that he would not be available, and recommended a different immunologist if I needed a follow up during his absence. Unfortunately I did have a flare-​up during that time and went to see the other immunologist. That guy was good too, but I did not think he was as, shall we say, incisive as Dr Davidson. So I made an appointment to see Dr Davidson as soon as he was back, and felt much happier talking to him simply because I trusted his instincts more.
I find the complaints about his office staff, his bedside manner, etc. utterly baffling. Everybody in his office was simply delightful to work with. Even when I was late for an appointment, they were superbly accommodating, and they had absolutely no reason to be so. I never had to wait longer than ten minutes. Alex and the doctor’s other students were really nice to talk to.
So do not be scared off by the negative reviews. I do not know how or why some patients have had poor experiences with Dr Davidson. He is quirky, no doubt, but I found that funny and charming, not off-​putting. He is a whip-​smart man whose judgment and abilities I would trust with no hesitation whatsoever.

This is an unfortunate example of how poor customer service and lack of professionalism can sour a business relationship. Three months ago, following several frustrating interactions with Dr. Davidson’s staff, I posted a review of my experiences. Dr. Davidson eventually saw and replied to my review saying the staff had been changed since October 2012. Since the issues I experienced continued through the time of my review in January 2013, I elected not to respond.
Following my Unilocal review, Dr Davidson sent me a letter informing me I could no longer be a patient. Again, I elected not to respond. I had already found a new specialist, and I figured I would let him have the last word.
Today, I received another letter — this time certified and return receipt — from Dr Davidson informing me they would no longer see me as a patient.
Really? Multiple letters? A certified letter? I’m astounded by the passive-​aggressive behavior and the lack of professionalism from this physician and his office.

Dear Dr. Davidson,
You saved my life today. Quite literally. I woke up this morning with the worst bout of vertigo I may have ever experienced in my entire life, but I came to work anyway. I even rode the BART like an idiot, seated backwards, and damn near fell backward down the escalator because I was so dizzy. I could have died. Seriously.
I had an appointment to see you this morning for a follow-​up regarding my asthma. I almost canceled because I couldn’t see straight as I walked down the street. I laid in your exam room, watching the world spin, even with my eyes closed.
Thank you for caring that I was feeling sick, getting me Benadryl, and treating me for my vertigo before addressing my asthma issues. Thank you for giving me Altoids and Peppermint Patties to eat while chewing the Benadryl to counteract the bitterness. Thank you for going out of your way to see if I could buy Meclizine over the counter and giving me the names of all of the different medications I could buy to curb my vertigo.
Those are just the thank yous for today’s visit.
Thank you for always following up to see if my asthma medications are effective. Thanks for listening when I tell you that I like or don’t like certain medications, and thank you for giving me the rest of your Singulair samples when I told you that I hadn’t met my deductible for the year. (Back when Singulair didn’t have a generic, it was pretty pricey).
Thanks for prescribing the best cocktail of meds to control my asthma. I am happier and healthier because of you. Oh! and thank you for having your staff encourage me each time I do the spirometry testing. I love hearing them cheer «BLOWBLOWBLOWBLOWBLOWBLOWBLOW!!» each time I exhale into the machine. It makes me smile every single time.
(PS. You know that second Peppermint Patty you gave me today? I put it into my candy jar when I got back to my office and one of my co-​workers ate it. So you made two people happy today. Thanks for that, too.)

I was really sick and referred to Dr. Jeffery Davidson because my other doctors were concerned I was either having extreme allergic reaction or sick due to some immunodeficiency. Dr. Davidson is both an immunologist and an allergist, so therefore it would save me time to see him.
My mom came with me because she was scared and I was weak from illness so she was helping me. Dr. Davidson saw my state; I was pale, having trouble talking, deep lung cough. Instead of taking mercy he started with the condescension. He would ask me a question, I would start to answer in my slow, weak voice then he would railroad me with insults to my intelligence before I even finished my sentence. My mom was freaking out, and she tried to calm him down with small talk & jokes, which made matters worse. I was pissed off with his demeanor but so sick I could not even complain, such blatant, outright rudeness is not something I am used to. Dr. Davidson trivialized my condition even though days before my visit I was told I almost died. Honestly it was hard to take him seriously because his behavior was so ridiculous and inappropriate.
He saw me once only, he mailed me the results and we were done. Ironically I am still sick, more than 6 months have passed. I believe it may be a food related allergy but Dr. Davidson refused me the food allergy testing. I even offered out of pocket if he could give me a price estimate (which he did not provide me). I will get EB testing done by ELISA/​ACT Biotechnologies instead.

I’m pretty sure Dr. Davidson had it in for me before he ever met me. I was referred to him by my GP for a consultation about an experimental therapy (in the hopes of subduing a severe reaction to certain ubiquitous foods). Basically, I just wanted his opinion on the matter. What I wasn’t prepared for was condescension, outright rudeness, and judgment of my lifestyle.
Immediately when we sat down, he was hostile and rude, asking for my story and then interrupting me like an impatient radio interviewer at every other sentence.
When I asked him what he thought of the experimental therapy, he shot it down immediately (which is fine! That’s what I was there for), and then proceeded to treat me like an idiot for even considering trying to get out of my predicament. «You’ve got to use critical thinking,» he repeated again and again, as if I weren’t thinking at all. Wasn’t the mere fact that I’d arranged multiple doctor consultations proof that I was giving the matter some thought and not diving in blindly?
It was even more disappointing when I realized he had hardly glanced at the literature I’d supplied beforehand, and thus knew little about the subject. All I wanted was an intelligent conversation about the pros and cons of such a therapy, and perhaps other options if he knew of any. Instead, I got talked down to for an hour and a half.
Dr. Davidson trivialized my condition and the aspirations this problem prevents me from accomplishing, telling me I should just accept that I can’t do certain things. When I told him, «For example, I’d like to travel to India one day,» he replied with an unfriendly smirk, «We can’t always get what we want.»
Eventually something he said to me indicated where all his hostility was coming from. He expressed frustration with patients who are skeptical about tried-​and-​true medicines he prescribes, but are gung-​ho about experimental, untested procedures. When I pointed out that I’d never met him before (and thus had never been prescribed a medicine by him, let alone expressed skepticism of his knowledge), he seemed to get flustered and said «Of course I don’t mean you.»
You know what I find frustrating? People who bring their baggage to my table and then beat me over the head with it.
Dr. Davidson seems to be a somewhat intelligent man and he made some valid arguments against the procedure I’m interested in. However, his bedside manner was so appalling, I was on the verge of walking out of there several times (and I’m generally a very tolerant person, so this is saying a lot).
His assistant, however, was very nice. Also, the doc has fabulous eyewear.

I am sure that the doc is an awesome guy. Those that work for him however are another story altogether.
When a specialist refers a patient to another specialist, aren’t they in touch with each other? Wouldn’t that make sense? You’d think so.
I was referred to Dr. Davidson by an ENT. Davidson’s office needed a referral. A referral from the ENT was not good enough. Trying to get ahold of my primary care Dr have the referral sent has not been easy and since the date was fast approaching (Davidson’s office requires 24hrs to cancel an appointment otherwise the credit card they have on file is debited). I was contacted by Dr Davidson’s office numerous times today about my Wednesday appt., and how important it was to get this referral. I must add that all calls were from a blocked number. Why were they calling me from a blocked # I asked, the response was that someone was using the other line. Uh.OK.
Anyway since Wednesday was a little more than 36hrs away I thought it be better that I ask if I was in fact unable to have the referral sent over before my 24 cancellation window should I cancel the appt? Since my appt was at 2:30pm on Wednesday would they call me by 2:30 on Tuesday to let me know if they hadn’t received the referral thereby giving me the 24hr lead time in which to cancel the appt without having my credit card debited as a penalty? No they would not be calling me. It is up to the patient to do all of the necessary legwork. In other words I needed to call Davidson’s office by 2:30pm Tuesday to see if they had received the referral in order to provide enough time to cancel the appt., and save my credit card from being billed for a non-​service.
His office asks also that a new patient bring in completed paper work, paperwork that is sent as a printable attachment via email. If an email with the attachment never arrives it is then the responsibility of the the patient to go to Dr Davidson’s website to download it.
I just found the number of different people I dealt with to be mostly unhelpful and pretty passive aggressive. I’ve asked my ENT specialist to refer me elsewhere. It is a shame because I hear Dr Davidson is pretty good. Pity about his front of house staff.
