Jane on Larkin

Super friendly place in a good location. I only stopped in briefly to have an espresso which was okay. The drink tasted a bit burnt and sour, but was also rich and creamy. More to like than dislike. I plan to return eventually for a more thorough review!

I wanted to take a break from work but wanted something small. I saw the café and walked in to check out the goods.
I opted for an iced matcha drink and the cake of the day (chocolate bundt slice).
I pictured a matcha latte but my drink wasn’t like that. Water based, still sweetened and still hella good. Refreshing, earthy, sweet and slightly fruity to me.
I ordered the cake because the richness of the dark chocolate color was appealing to me. I expected a fudgier and more chocolatey experience but was unsatisfied with the intensity of the chocolate. The cake texture was still good.
My friend bought a few loaves of sourdough bread and gave me one. The look of the bread itself is beautiful and rustic. The crust has a great crunch sound when you press the bread a bit. The inside is soft and almost buttery (no butter used in the bread). I had to stop myself from eating too much at a time.
I would recommend this place and I’d go back to try more things.

Sunday was insanely crowded from 10 a.m. until about 1 p.m. But, even so, it was very pleasant.
I went back after work on Friday and it was quiet and peaceful.

Always something good and a very talented barista serving exceptional coffee drinks. The Avacado Mash has become my comme toujours.

This place is good. The bread is freshly baked, and pretty tasty. This morning I had the Avocado toast for breakfast with a latte. Very good, but a little pricey. I’ll definitely be coming back to this spot, and would recommend it if you’re in the area.

This place is quickly becoming our neighborhood go-​to coffee spot. Love everything about it except wish it could have a few more people making coffee… kinda slow.

I don’t give out 5 star reviews easily. As I considered my review here I thought about the different aspects of my experience here:
Service: 5 stars — polite, friendly, professional, all around spot-​on.
Coffee: excellent.
Food: excellent. The vegetarian quiche was outstanding, the bread was great.
Atmosphere: tasteful, bustling.
The only downside I can think if for Jane on Larkin is that it is not Jane on my street.

Jane is a trendy little spot with no signs pointing to it, but you will know when you have arrived. There is a level of cleanliness when you feel when you walk in, with highly priced ($ 25) souvineer cups lining the left side wall.
I decided to try the quiche of the day (chorizo and red pepper) and a green smoothie with banana.
The smoothie was on point and on the [slightly] less sweet side (personally, I might have added more green apple) but overall tasty and healthy to boot!
Now as for the quiche, it was delicious! It reminds me of my mother’s Christmas breakfast soufflé. The quiche came with a salad that was indeed ‘lightly dressed’ as advertised to the perfect amount (I can’t stand overly dressed salad). The service was all very friendly, I would recommend this place to anyone looking for an alternative to your average diner breakfast.

This restaurant is a gem in the Tenderloin. Trendy and crowded café great for getting work done or lounging on a Sunday Funday in the city.
The service is very quick and friendly. I would start off and try the famous green juice they have over there it literally has every vegetable and leaf in there. Cleanse your body after a rough night.
Food wise I would go with the egg white sandwich was really good — low cholesterol, avocado, and some sort of sauce that brings everything together but doesn’t overpower the dish.
Great place for brunch, business meetings, or just getting a bunch of work done.

Stoked to have found this great café on a visit to SF! The coffee was delicious and they had so many good food options! Avocado toast and yogurt with berries looked amazing but I got overwhelmed and just ordered a cinnamon roll which was to die for! Plenty of tables, laptop friendly. The barista was nice. Only complaint is coffee took a bit long to come out. But I wasn’t in a rush.

I was excited for brunch finally at Jane on Larkin, a cute, sign-​less café in the Tenderloin. There were not many seats, never an open table, and a constant line, but somehow everyone who ordered ended up with a seat by the time their food came. Awesome!

* Pumpkin Croissant — 5 stars: Holy moly!
* Nitro Stumptown — 5 Stars: Always a favorite.
Lowlights: Breakfast
* Avocado Toast — 2 Stars: Bland and soggy
* Southwest Scramble — 3 Stars: Bland. Liked the cheese scone though!
* Frisée Breakfast Salad — 2 Stars: So bland, and the bacon was way too sweet. Dressing was not good.
Perhaps I should stick with their baked goods and coffee.

My go-​to coffee shop in the nabe! Must haves: HOMEMADE CHAI, iced coffee, crazy cookie, ham & cheese croissants, baguette, sourdough loaf, sausage biscuit sandwich, egg white sandwich…
Clearly I have a «Jane’s Addiction» ;)
Improvements: I want them to train and hire people from the neighborhood… and be aware of the racial disparities between the front of the house and the back. I assume they already donate leftover food to pantries/​shelters at the end of the day (most businesses in the TL do this).

This place is one of those puzzling places with really «nice» food that has great healthy and fancy ingredients, but somehow the food ends up tasting not that good???
We came here for weekend brunch and ordered the avocado toast, since that seems to be a popular thing nowadays. The toast was too thick and I just didn’t care for the taste of the dish!
We also ordered a cold rice/​grain dish that I can’t remember the name of… I think it was probably prepared cold to preserve all the nutrients or some fancy reason like that. But we all agreed it would have tasted better warm. The bits of fruit in it were nice though.
So overall, the atmosphere of this place is lovely, modern, clean and the food LOOKS beautiful but the taste falls short.

I haven’t been to the Jane on Fillmore, partially due to proximity to my apartment. So SO glad this gem of a spot landed in the Tenderloin. We all know the area could use a ton of cleaning up, and this is exactly the type of establishment I love seeing pop-​up.
Lovely ambiance and service, but I was a tad letdown with my breakfast sandwich. At first blush, it looked and smelled amazing but the flavor didn’t deliver. I wished there were more cheese and tomato chutney… because plain old eggs and multigrain bread don’t exactly explode in the flavor department. The drip coffee was decent, but kinda wished I saved my $ 3.
That said, I’d definitely come back, to explore more of the bakery treats, and especially if they ever decide to pony up and offer wifi.

On a fine warm Wednesday after copping some cruffins at Holmes, I went in search of a beloved Stubbie. Having had one at Jane on Fillmore, I was banking on Jane on Larkin, and lucky me! Stumptown beans and brews abounds. I was a kid in a candy store.
As there was no one in line behind me and I was curious to know more about the beans, I asked the cashier about what she knew about the beans and she directed my questions to the barista. Enthusiastic, friendly, and knowledgeable, he elaborated on the different regions where beans come from, their flavor profiles, and even what their coffee trees looked like. I was impressed and sold on Ethiopia Nano Challa for its floral and vibrant flavors. Don’t take my word for it though, as I’m still a newbie enthusiast in coffee. Stubbie cold brew and bag of beans, I couldn’t have been happier. As I was sitting and enjoying my coffee, the barista brought over a small glass of their nitro coffee to try. How ridiculously smooth it was! The other day as I was perusing coffee articles, I recognized the friendly barista here as none other than Jane’s coffee director, Tom Baker. I could see the passion he had for his craft, and it made me all the more impressed.
The front of the store is lined with large windows, so it can get pretty hot when the sun is ablaze. The Larkin location is much more spacious with a relaxed vibe than its sister on Fillmore.
Would definitely come back in the future for more Stubbies and Stumptown beans, because Jane knows what’s good.

Jane on Larkin is newer but still appeared to be the older, better and wiser sibling of Jane on Fillmore. There’s more window seats, friendlier workers (whilst one of the workers were clearing up the dishes from the previous patrons he actually greeted us with «How’s it going?» which is probably a rare occurrence in Fillmore and caught me completely off guard). It is not as crowded here so the ambiance feels a lot more relaxed. I’ll go on to add there’s more of an urban feel with more off beat and eclectic locals and less I-​just-​finished-​my-​Soul-​Cycle-​class vibe. This is something that appears to have long gone here in SF and I absolutely loved it.
My husband loves their sausage on cheddar biscuit/​tomato jam sandwich with a Stumptown cold brew on tap. My usual is their avocado mash toast with jalapeño and a runny egg on top with a cappuccino to slowly sip on. Oh and a Crazy Cookie to whet our appetite. Everything tasted just as good here as their Fillmore counterpart.
I’m a fan.

One of my favorite coffee shops in the Tenderloin. I usually walk over, there is limited street parking or garage parking.
I like getting lattes and the Crazy Cookie $ 2.25.
Recently I got:
Banana & Dulce de Leche croissant (per sign) — I thought it was gonna be crunchy and flaky Kouign Amann, but it tasted pretty doughy, dulce de leche not sweet enough for me. I probably won’t get it again.
Kouign Amann — ate it at home re-​heated, I liked it ok. Not as good as Starter Bakery or B Patisserie, decent though.
Blueberry, lemon poppyseed frangipane croissants — I thought was pretty good. I might get it again.
They serve sandwiches and salads, I think breakfast stuff too.

Jane = fresh on-​site baked breads/​pastries and delicious entrees = fantastic breakfast destination!
Tried an item so new that it wasn’t yet «in the system» (sautéed asparagus with candied bacon and soft eggs). Everything fresh and flavorful. Will be getting some baked goods to take home!
Coffee could be hotter — the marshmallow in my mocha couldn’t melt :(
New, clean, roomy, comfy environment with counter and table seating. Overall great experience!

Great coffee. Good pastries.
You really won’t need any signage to find this wonderful coffee shop in the neighborhood. All you need to do is just follow scent and sight (perhaps with the help of some modern technology). This lovely café crafted up some top notched espresso drinks and artisanal baked goods. Step in for a drink and enjoy the sunfilled room in a lazy afternoon, weekends really don’t get better than this.

I really liked the environment and I really liked the hospitality of the staff, but I wasn’t too big of a fan of the coffee :(I want to give it the benefit of the doubt and say that it’s because I had my latte with soy, but I felt like it was a little watered down. I also had the coffee cake and it was rock solid. I kept stabbing the cake with the fork but it would not come apart. I asked the staff if they could heat it up for me, and the worker didn’t seem too happy about it. They brought the cake back to my table and it was finally easy for my fork to slice through, but there was no taste anymore…
I really don’t want to complain about Jane on Larkin. For this cutty-​ass area, this coffee joint is pretty legit. But I am not a fan of paying for watery coffee and rock cake. I want to give this another try one day.
