Jane on Fillmore

I should probably try the coffee or the breakfast at Jane, but I only come here for one thing — Oat Cakes.
A few years ago I started sampling oat cakes from around San Francisco. Since I live in Colorado it’s quite a while between visits, and I’ve even tried to make my own to keep me from dying of oat cake withdrawal. Jane has the best, albeit pricey ($ 4 each), ones in town. 5 stars for oat cakes!

I’m very sorry … I hate doing this but I frankly didn’t like this place and still don’t understand how people can find the food so good.
Flies were flying around the food… The service was kind of poor, the place not very clean… I usually don’t waste but I couldn’t finish my quiche and my friend was wondering why we were there.
Because I thought I should try again, I went there two times again and it was the same.

Thanks to Unilocal I was able to find a nice coffee spot within walking distance of J-​town and satisfy my desire for a cappuccino before leaving SF :)
The avo toast mash topped with a soft boiled egg was mighty fine, too.
Pastries looked inviting and the coffee is Stumptown. I will definitely be back the next time in town.

Really cute coffee shop and very busy with a lot of people on their laptops. I had the hot chocolate because it was towards the evening time and my husband had a cappuccino. The Barista made our drink really nice with the art on it so that was a plus. We didn’t know what to expect at first because didn’t look it up but just stumbled upon the place, but our drink was really good. The drinks had a perfect temperature and my hot chocolate wasn’t too sweet I was able to enjoy it while taking an evening stroll. My husband also enjoyed his drink very much and said he would go back there again if we were in the area.

I came here frustrated that I could never find a seat at Peet’s, which is a couple of doors up the street, thanks to the laptoppies. Jane’s cappuccino is delicious and their chocolate croissants are divine. Perhaps the best I’ve had in the city. They limit the laptoppies before 3, making seating more reliable.

This place is a quaint little place with enough hustle and bustle to not be boring. We got one of the little tables lining the wall by the display cases and the cashier, a perfect place to people watch. beware of the recommended 30 minute limit on the occupation of a table (not as bad as it sounds).we ordered a Cinnamon Brioche, the Avocado Mash, Meat Quiche of the day, the Hot Chocolate, and this green smoothie thing containing Kale and other healthy ingredients. I’ve had the pleasure of sampling a salad and this thing called a Crazy Cookie the other day, the yummy factor of both items prompted a visit to the source. A health nut is not something i will ever be accused of being, but i must say, this place, i feel, excels in the healthy stuff… the Salad i had the day before had a great tasting dressing and i was totally enjoying the Avocado Mash the wife ordered. i even found the Green Veggie drink to be tolerable. The Quiche was good but it wasn’t exactly making me say wow… same goes for the Hot Chocolate, nice design with the cream though. The kitchen staff needs to stay on top of the silverware… the table which had 2 cups one of which was labeled clean but was filled with used utensils. A nice place to try, but unless i lived within walking distance, it’s not something i would go out of my way to travel to.

An amazing friendly staff and high quality coffee and food. I’m a complete bread addict and I’ve recently gone gluten free. Ive opted to entirely avoid my favorite food but decided to give their quinoa bread a chance.
Holy crap! This is such an amazing bread. Even if I was eating gluten I would still eat their gluten free quinoa bread. It is slightly sweet, doughy and perfect for morning toast. I’m going to return and buy loaves so I don’t spend $ 4 per toast on a daily basis.

Although this place is really cute inside and offers a variety of baked goods for vegans and gluten free people, the customer service and friendliness of the staff was disappointing and unprofessional. No smiles, no thank yous, no have a good days.
Not a place I would return to.

Jane is my ideal café.
Jane somehow manages to always be busy but always feels calm, never overwhelming, even though it is usually crowded. It’s a great space to sit by yourself and study or catch up with an old friend. Every time Ive come, the service has been quick and timely without being rushed. I’ve only tried a few things on their menu — the avocado mash, fruit and granola, some of their toasts, and their black rice pudding — and all have been delicious with simple, healthy and hearty ingredients. This place really is a neighborhood gem.

This place hits the spot! The food was amazing and packed with flavor. Really can’t go wrong.

My friend and I came here on a Saturday morning for breakfast. The place is pretty small, so expect to wait in line to order, and then wait to find a table. I would say this restaurant is not a good place for groups larger than 4 people.
My friend and I both ordered the egg white sandwich as we were trying to be healthy and based on other reviews and sneaking peeks at other people’s food, it looked delicious. No regrets ordering this sandwich! Egg whites, spinach, avocado, melted provolone, and a little sriracha. It’s really everything you want for breakfast. After half a sandwich I was actually getting full so I gave the other half of my sandwich to my guy friend.
We also ordered a crazy cookie which was so good! The marshmallow in the cookies really sets it apart from other cookies in both texture and taste. The cappuccino I ordered went well with the cookie.
The only reason why I’m not giving this place 5 stars is because the seating system is kind of stressful. Once you order your food, you are provided a number. Then, you have to hover over other people to finish and leave in order for you to snatch up their table. I guess it’s a practical alternative to having a list of names and having someone call out the next person on the list. Maybe the solution is just to order to-​go!

Oh Jane, I have mixed feelings about you. Sometimes it’s stellar and other times I wish I didn’t wait in that line. But overall this is a solid café with a stellar pastry and drink selection. Plus they serve brekky all day! Their kouign amann pastries are sooo good. I have also had the hummus/​avo toast, the super super healthy salad (yes that’s what it’s called), the green smoothie, yogurt and granola, coffee and teas.
They have gluten free and healthy options for those who are watching their waistline. I was told the super super healthy salad was amazing but I was pretty underwhelmed. It was lacking in taste for me and the waitress seemed really annoyed when I asked for pepper and balsamic (one of the more sour experiences). They do have Stumptown on tap which is plus and sell nitro brew. They also make their own chai that has a nice spicy zing to it if you’re a chai lover.
Although Jane on Larkin seems to be less crowded, I still prefer this Fillmore location because the interior is a more cozy (even if it is crowded) and it seems like the staff is a little more cheery. Overall if you’re looking for a quality cup of joe I’d steer clear of the nearby Starbucks and Peets and give Janie a try.

Came for the first time on a rainy day, right after the New Year, because b. patisserie was closed for maintenance. We walked around then decided to come here. They were doing maintenance on their espresso machines and were only serving coffee /​iced coffee.
We ordered coffee, a green smoothie, and banana bread. In general everything was chill, but I wish I could have had a flat white or chai latte instead. Also, the décor is super cute.
My only complaints is it feels extra cramped and dirty. Pastry crumbs all under the cracks in the glass table :(my friend who lives in the ‘hood said they used to care about the little things like cleanliness but things changed as they got busier which annoys me.

Their brunch, their lunch, their coffee (Stumptown)… This place does not disappoint. Vegetarians, vegans, gluten free, they have options for everyone. They bake their own breads, and their pastries are incredible. My personal favorite is when they have bread pudding on the menu. A close second are the spicy eggs, which are stewed in tomatoes with black beans and cheese.
The long line can be intimidating, but it moves rather quickly, and is well worth the wait. Great atmosphere and free wifi, but not the place to bring your laptop and work, as tables are scarce. However, it’s a great place to sit with friends or the New York Times without feeling rushed to leave. High ceilings and beautiful black and white chevron tables, which are perfect for your #foodporn Instagram shots.

Favorite thing about Jane is their pastries! They are always super fresh, delicious, nice variety, and not too sweet (last of which is so hard to find). They are also never too oily, so I never feel like crap or that guilty after eating one. The coffee is pretty good — their cappuccino and other espresso drinks are great. But I really don’t like their iced coffee or cold brew on tap — it has no flavor. Other things I don’t love — very long lines, occasionally snooty servers, and very high prices (even for SF).

Jane is one of my go-​to coffee shops in the city. The café is cute and a staple in the Fillmore neighborhood.
It’s a gem among gems in the area; from the moment you walk in, you get a sense of rustic elegance with the chevron décor on the tables and the earthy looking bar where you order from a divine selection of teas and coffees.
Some of the best almond lattes in the city that I’ve had, and their nitro brew is super smooth (and maybe even a little smoky?). They also have fresh pastries, salads and sandwiches if you want something a bit more filling, so it’s doable for lunch as well!
The only slight caveat is that it’s small and a bit cramped. They have only a few large tables in the front, and due to its immense popularity, they’re always jam-​packed with customers.
That being said, don’t let it discourage you from stopping in and grabbing something to go! Highly recommend :)

Jane is a must stop in the Fillmore for just about everything — coffee, tea, cookies, they also have a wonderful assortment of gluten free and vegan cookies, and the food is pretty tasty too.
It is an adorable café to meet a friend for a quick cup of coffee, light lunch, or to spend some time doing work or enjoying a good book while getting caffeinated. They have free wifi and extra tables hidden away upstairs.
Jane draws a big crowd on the weekend so there is usually a line — but it goes fairly quick and the staff is always friendly.

This café is so cute, just like its name. I’m a sucker for any café with high ceilings and upstairs seating. I came here to meet a friend for coffee and luckily found a small table upstairs. It can get pretty crowded but totally worth the wait if you can snatch some seats. I told my friend to order some iced coffee for me, and he came back with Stumptown Cold Brew in a CARTON! So freaking adorable, and how un-​hipster of me not to realize this was a thing.
While we were enjoying the local vibe of this place, we also shared their pastrami sandwich, which was quite tasty. Looks like they have homemade pickles too! Their food menu looks amazing, from their salads and quiche to their toasts and baked goods. I’m definitely coming back here (earlier in the day) to camp out, get some work done, and enjoy the culinary and caffeinated experiences that Jane on Fillmore has to offer.

We made it there for breakfast this morning, got through the crowd and submitted our order.
The 45 min wait (in line to order and then to wait to get the food) was worth it! The food taste, and flavor are definitely exquisite!
We got to try many items, including the sausage biscuit (eggs, sausage, and cheddar on a housemate buttermilk biscuit), the smoked salmon platter, the brioche, the green shake, and many others. It was all excellent!
Why not 5 stars: well the wait in line is too long, and the service could definitely be improved!

GREAT FOOD BUT FILTHY
We haven’t been to Jane’s in months as there never seems to be an open table (often tied up by laptop users who nurse drinks and snacks for extended periods, even during lunch periods). We finally got in on early pm Sunday to enjoy our favorite smoked salmon platter. The food was as good as ever, as was the café latte. But there was so much trash on the floor and crumbs under the tabletop glass that we were disgusted and almost left. The staff seemed oblivious to the issue. Where is the care of the owner? A dirty restaurant raises issues about food sanitation. This neighborhood gem needs to close for a month for a major cleaning and staff retraining. I hope they can turn it around.

I was so excited to try Janes that I actually ventured out of my usual hood. For anyone who lives in the mission, venturing out is as rare as the recent blood moon. On paper, it sounded like the perfect café. Hip and airy with a great breakfast menu and stumptown coffee… Not to mention the previous raving reviews about their cookies! Who was I to deny myself instagramable photos of avocado bread and latte art?!?
First red flag — hordes of lululemon girls waiting in a line that wrapped around the front door. Normally, my Asian instincts would see this as a good sign. Oh! A line! It must be good! But on this beautiful Saturday, the idea of squeezing next to basic bees with post-​yoga funk did not seem as appealing.
Second red flag — If I thought listening to giddy exclamations about the return of pumpkin spice lattes (#PSLiloveyou #yayFALL) was bad, I was unprepared for the roar I heard upon finally entering Janes. It is so loud that I couldn’t even hear the coffee grinding. I don’t know how you can even have a conversation here. Oh wait, I do. That’s what the screaming must’ve been.
Overall, the food is delicious but not worth all the trouble. There is no shortage of coffee shops in the city. Cafes are not amazing because of food alone but because of the atmosphere they offer. Janes fell short in that department.

Super cute place! Every time I went they had a long line and it was hard to find a place to sit. There’s some more spots upstairs but you might have to wait for someone to get up from their table. The service is really friendly.
We got the quiche of the day (~$ 5) and egg white sandwich ($ 8). The quiche was okay but the sandwich was amazing! It had the perfect amount of cheese, avocado, and sriracha. I would definitely get that again soon. The banana bread was also pretty good but the egg white sandwich was the clear winner.

i came her on a recent trip to San Francisco! There was a pretty long line out the door, but we were willing to wait! I ended up getting the Mocha, which was chocolatey and delicious, on the verge of being a little too sweet (they use chocolate syrup instead of chocolate powder)
I’d definitely come back to try the breakfast and/​or pastries! Visit this coffeeshop if you are in the area.

If Jane on Fillmore had to be summed up in a word: Adorbs.
Not adorable, since it’s a bit trendier than a 6-​year old’s artwork on the fridge. It’s the grown up version, with a little edginess.
Arriving before 10 am on a Saturday is a good idea, especially if you want to dine-​in and enjoy the morning paper. There was a short line that took a few minutes, but not too bad.
Though the sweet baked goods looked to die for, went for a sausage breakfast sandwich served on the house buttermilk biscuit. Might I even say that there was a bit of jalapeño in the bread? Regardless it was delicious. I ate the whole thing in the blink of an eye.
Great spot for people watching! Bed headed lovers, mothers and daughters, even an older gal by herself chatted it up with the barista while her food was being prepared. A very civilized bunch, indeed.
If only there was one in the Dogpatch? Take that as an invitation, Jane.
