James R Urick, DDS

Though unfortunately I recently had to leave Dr. Urick’s practice after a number of years due to moving south, he’s been a wonderful dentist and his staff has alwyas been great (thank you Donna). I always trusted his judgement, he consistently took a conservative but measured approach to my care, and he when more substantial work was needed (like a root canal) he helped ensure I saw one of the best specialists in the city, then took great care to make sure that the crown I needed fit perfectly (and saw me a few times on an emergency basis when the temporary came off due to my own stupidity). He’s highly recommended.

Just recently started coming to Dr. Urick’s practice after moving from out of the area. The staff is very professional and nice. Dr Urick is the most thorough dentist I have ever been to and I look forward to coming here for a while. Also, the location is great and office is very updated.

Dr. Urick has been my dentist for a decade now, and I am very happy that I have been his patient for so long because I broke a tooth last year and he has helped me through every step. TRUST ME, if and when you ever break a tooth, you should talk to Dr. Urick and his Staff.
After many months of dealing with a fractured tooth, full extraction, surgery install and new cap, I can honestly say that I had more problems with the Embarcadero parking than anything else!
Dr. Urick has always been very personable, very professional, and has ALWAYS made expectations clear. especially when he is dealing with high-​maintenance people such as myself.
BOTTOM LINE: If your smile is important to You, go see Dr. Urick!

Best dentist office in SF hands down. I was referred to him by my kid’s dentist. Dr. Urrick is the most thorough and thoughtful dentist. I’ve had to have a lot of dental work in my days. He clearly is a doctor that loves what he does and that shows. His assistants are top notch. It is a wonderful team.
The office staff is also caring, and patient. Something which I appreciate when having to see a dentist. I try to arrive early to sit in the massage chairs. This is the Nordstrom of dental care.

Great dentist and the best hygienists!

I have now been a patient of Dr. Urick’s for over 12 years. He is an exceptional dentist with a wonderful chair side manner. He has always spent extra time answering all of my questions and informing me of all my options. I love him and would never consider another dentist.

Dr. Urick is one of the most talented Dentists I have ever seen. He is gentle and is a true perfectionist. A great Dentist!!!

I’m new to SF and happened to find Dr. Urick through Unilocal when I had a dental emergency on New Years Eve:(Their office recording referred me to Dr. Urick’s cell phone. Not only did he answer immediately, he met me at the office within about an hour! He set up a temporary crown and managed to keep me out of pain to enjoy the weekend and return the following Monday.
When the permanent crown was put in place, the procedure took about an hour. What would typically be annoying and uncomfortable was as pleasant as it could be. His office staff aimed to please, getting me set up with a Starbucks smoothie (no kidding!) before the procedure so I didn’t have an empty stomach, headphones for my music and a blanket — they really went out of their way. Dr. Urick is extremely professional, thorough and kind; Sonia, his assistant, is very helpful and kind. I’m thrilled to have found such a great Dental practice.

While I really like Dr. Urick as a dentist, I am not a fan of the office policies. They charge you the full amount for the visit if you cancel in less than forty-​eight hours. It doesn’t matter if you’re running a fever and down with bronchitis. They have also screwed up billing for my husband several times.
Dental work is expensive and I feel like I need to be treated as a customer, not like it’s MY privilege to be seen there. After several years as patients here, my husband and I have decided to find a dentist with better customer service.

Dr. Urick has is without a doubt the best dentist in San Francisco. Dr. Urick brings a level of trust and professionalism that is rare among dentists. His staff is attentive and courteous and his office is very sharp. I am so glad I found Dr. Urick and would highly recommend him to anyone needing top notch dental care.

I am downgrading my review for Dr. Urick after being his patient for a couple of years (and recently switched to a new provider). I found that Dr. Urick was consistently upselling and trying to refer me out to other specialists for unnecessary services, perhaps to get a referral bonus. This has been the case with other friends who I sent to see Dr. Urick as well.
I am now seeing Dr. Jerilyn Negvesky, who is *top-​notch* (see my Unilocal review) and doesn’t try to push things on me.

Dr. Urick is one of the best professional service providers I’ve had. His bed side manner is excellent, and his staff are highly organized, efficient, and helpful. Pricing is normal for San Francisco, and, for what you get, well worth it.

I have some serious teeth issues. Missing adult teeth, implants, gum, issues, anxiety in the office, etc. Basically, I’m a dentists worst nightmare, and I mean it. It’s so hard to find a good dentist that I trust and Dr. Urick is one. I wouldn’t say this is the cheapest dentist office but good service, great location and awesome office is worth the few extra dollars it costs for his services. I’ve moved to Michigan and I still keep him as my dentist in SF for when I come home because I know no one will compare. I highly recommend him!

I have had Dr. Urick as my dentist for about 5 years. Dr. Urick is a top notch dentist and a wonderful person. I live in Southern California, but travel to SF to see Dr. Urick. I have had several terrible dentists, so when I found Dr. Urick, I decided that he is the only dentist I will ever go to again. Dr. Urick is personable, extremely intelligent, and a fantastic dentist. I cannot say enough great things about him.
If you are looking for a dentist to acurately diagnose problems, bill appropriately, treat your teeth gently and has a great patient approach, Dr. Urick is the one to see in San Francisco.
The rest of his office is great too. I have never had to wait when I had an appointment. His receptionists and staff are excellent as well.

My teeth are hurting. Uh, a piece broke off of one. The north side of my molars have gotten mossy. But as a testament to how much I love and miss the gentle care of Dr. Urick, I haven’t been to a dentist since I moved away.
Four years ago.
Dr. Urick is one of those people you want to hug on the way out of every visit, even when there are fillings/​broken crowns/​root canals involved. Really. So kind! So gentle! So respectful of your comfort when you’re crossing your eyes in fear. His staff complements him beautifully, the hygienists dabbing at the stray fluoride on your cheek, offering you a comfy chair and the latest in devices of distraction when you’re pretty sure you’re not going to be able to bear whatever scary procedure you must undergo.

I am fortunate to have a boss who is so much more than that. He is an expert karaōke master, a comedian, and a great resource for medical referrals. After being harassed and harangued by my old dentist’s receptionist for months on end over a missed appointment, I was more or less dumped. Shortly thereafter, both of my recent fillings came out, leaving gaping holes (hot, right?) where there were once white, shiny molars. Knowing I was not welcome back to my dentist, who I adored but whose secretary had scared the crap out of me, I asked the boss and he referred me to Dr. Urick.
One look at Dr. Urick’s office and I knew I was in good hands. Modern, sleek, and ultimately calming, all creepy dentist fears were immediately laid to rest. The front desk staff are young and professional, not to mention friendly and helpful. Dr. Urick’s assistant is the nicest dental hygienist (or whatever you call them) I’ve ever met. Cute as a button and hilarious to boot, we had what amounted to the most fun one can have during a 25 x-​ray session and oral photo shoot with weird things at awkward angles in one’s mouth.
Dr. Urick is the crown jewel of this place, though. Calm, attentive, and a great listener, it was immediately apparent that he respected my opinion as a patient. This is rare in the medical field. Dr. Urick immediately identified the problem, set up a game plan, and made my appointments FOR ME with another dr. to give me a root canal. This is a solid doc and I am looking forward to working with him to get my pretty little mouth all perfect again. Also, Urick’s not bad in the looks department, which is very important to me if I’m going to spending a lot of time staring at someone in my face.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Urick for a very long time. I must admit I have always been scared of going to the dentist but with Dr. Urick he always makes you feel very comfortable and relaxed.
I love the fact that he is genuinely concerned about the health of your teeth. He’s great and would recommend him to anyone who is looking for a caring dentist!

Well my friends Andy and Traci both swore by Dr. Urick so I went several years ago and ever since I’ve been very happy with the service he and his team provide.
They are very prompt and attentive and the staff makes sure you don’t forget your appointment with good pre-​appointment follow ups.

I love Doctor Urick. He is definitley my favorite dentist ever… Like Monica S. I also look forward to going to the dentist w/​Doctor Urick… He was referred to me by a medical group that we use at the hotel… he has also been able me accomodate guests that have had dental emergencies while away from home… and they all come back beaming!
I also love the location… almost next door to Tadich Grill, Perbacco and Aqua! I always try and stop off before or after to one of my three favorite Financial Dist. establishments…
Yeah for Doctor Urick, I cannot move out of Sf now… or I will have to take him and his office with me!

Dr. Urick gets my vote for Best Dentist ever! He is truly amazing. While most people hate going to the dentist, I actually look forward to it. Dr. Urick has all the latest equipment to spot even the faintest cavity. Like the previous Unilocaler said below the doc constantly goes above and beyond the call of duty. He has stayed late multiple times and even come in on a Sunday when I had an emergency.
I could go on for a while. So if you’re looking for a very professional dentist that will make your experience comfortable then Dr. Urick is your man.
