History

Established in 1940.

The San Francisco Otolaryngology Group traces its roots to 1940 when Meyer Schindler was asked to join Lewis F. Morrison, MD, the Chief of Otolaryngology at UCSF, in practice. Meyer Schindler chose to remain downtown in the 450 Sutter St office as a sole practitioner until the summer of 1973, when he was joined in practice by his oldest son, David Schindler, MD, who was trained at UCSF and had just completed his military service as an Army Otolaryngologist in Fort Lewis, Washington. The Meyer and David Schindler office expanded once again when his fourth son, Brian Schindler, MD, completed his residency training at UCSF and joined the practice in 1979. In 2001, Brian and David welcomed Jacob Johnson, MD to the practice upon completion of his residency at UCSF. San Francisco Otolaryngology’s current team of physicians was formed when the practice welcomed former UCSF residents, Dr. Andrea Yeung in ’07, Dr. Theresa Kim in ’10, and Dr. Gerald Kangelaris and Dr. Piepergerdes in ’11.

Dr. James Piepergerdes is a board certified Otolaryngologist — Head and Neck Surgeon who has been working with the San Francisco Otolaryngology Medical Group since 2011. Dr. Piepergerdes has been an ENT Allergist for over thirty years and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy.
