TL;DR — some J&J mechanic made a small mistake that ended up costing me $ 2,000
I hate to leave a bad review because Benley is a genuinely nice guy who tries to give his customers the best value, but I think the warning is warranted. I’ve taken my wife’s car there for several repairs the past few years and have always had great service, and clear explanations of my options. (They’ve been my second opinion for whatever the Honda dealership tells us we need.)
Last month I took her car there for a cooling belt replacement (among other unrelated things). The next time she drove the car, she barely made it across the Bay Bridge before the car overheated and refused to start. We towed it back to J&J and they fixed it for free — with Benley saying it could have been their mechanic who put the belt on wrong, or it could have been a piece of road debris that flew up and knocked the belt out of alignment. (I wonder which it was…) Hey, they fixed it for free, all good, right?
Unfortunately the car overheating that day damaged the head gasket. (The Honda mechanic’s opinion, not mine.) Over the next month the imperfect seal eroded until it blew the gasket and my wife broke down on the side of 880 during the evening rush hour. Normally that’s about $ 1,400, but thanks to her car being a hybrid, that’s up to $ 2k.
I’m sure this was a fluke, but I won’t take my car there again. Because of a mechanic’s small mistake, saving $ 200 at J&J ended up costing me $ 2,000.

Went in for tire repair when I had a nail in my front tire. With no appointment, it took about 45 minutes and was $ 35. They were very friendly and super conveniently located. I took an 8 minute walk down to Westfield downtown and went shopping while I waited. Thanks!

Been coming here since 1986. 30 years! Gulp! I’ve brought all of my cars here for tire care throughout the years. Customer service is superb. Prices are low and competitive enough to earn my business again and again. Benly is a great person to talk to and I’ve learned a lot about tires. Mechanics and car shops come and go but J & J Tire has always been here.
For any kind of tire care, I have not and will not go anywhere else.
Now if you would excuse me, i’m heading there now to get a leaky tire fixed.

In the city last weekend & noticed our tire was almost flat. Found J & J on Unilocal and brought the car in. There was a screw in the tire so they were able to patch it.
Very friendly service & fast! Saved our day!

Great service with no hassle and they handle a lot of BMWs. I brought my M3 in just to swap out a new set of wheels and tires I purchased separately and the guys took extra care of my car in the steep entrance and exit.
Fast, friendly, and a great price. I would recommend them for your tire needs!

J&J checked my tired in 15 mins for $ 20 and found a leaking valve that they replaced for free. Great service.

One of friends just got back her truck from J&J with a new set of tires from them. By the time she got home, one of tires were completely flat. She called them to tell them to send a tow truck cuz she couldn’t get to work. They said they didn’t have a jack. What kind of auto shop doesn’t have a jack?!? They would not take any responsibility for it. That might’ve been understandable if she rolled over a nail or something. But she had to get another friend to take the tire off and bring it to another shop. This other tire shop told her that the valve was old and needed replacing and replaced it for her for free! Her new tire got flat cuz of an old valve that J&J should’ve replaced along with the tires. This is pretty standard when purchasing new tires because of wear and tear of the valves also. Needless to say, we’re not coming back here… ever.

Benley Wong is the man! Super nice guy. I went in to check my tires before a long drive (I have a plug in one tire from a couple years back and wanted to see if I needed a repatch or new tires). He not only checked my tires, but determined they were fine and demonstrated how plugs work. He filled my tires and replaced the valve caps at no cost, and explained what I should look out for to tell if I need tires replaced or patched. He was very helpful and I’ll definitely be coming here if I need my tires replaced.

I got a flat and needed to replace my tire ASAP. I had been calling around asking for quotes on tires and also trying to look for a used one. When I called J&J, Benly quoted me the cheapest price on a new tire out of all the other places in the city I called (mostly called around Bayview, Outer Mission, and SOMA — some of which didn’t even have my tire size in stock) and also told me he had a used tire I could buy instead if I was trying to save money, before I could even ask if he had any used ones! This was super awesome of him.
When I got there, I dropped off my car and waited probably no more than 15 – 20 minutes. He replaced my tired and showed me the razorblade that had made it’s way into my tire. He was super friendly and handed me his card if I needed any additional services in the future.
J & J’s pricing is super reasonable and Benly is a very friendly guy. Go here if you’re looking for new tires!

This place is awesome! Been here for a few years now and will continue to come since these are honest people and they have always done a great job. Customer service is always great and prices are reasonable!

We came to J&J to get our shocks replaced since the dealer quoted us almost twice what Benly did. I’m not very knowledgable about cars so I can’t really tell if they did a good job or not but what I do know is that Benly is a stand up guy who had great customer service. When we came to pick up our car, we noticed that the back seats were dirty and wet. We immediately brought this to Benly’s attention and not only was he very apologetic, he offered to get us a rental car or even borrow his own car while he took ours to be cleaned. It was late in the day and we needed to go so Benly offered to find a detailing place near our house and pay for the cleaning and anything else we wanted done. At first we were a little skeptical but later that night he actually called and found a place for us. We had the car washed and the upholstery shampooed and sent Benly the bill, which he immediately reimbursed us for via check which we reviewed today. It always impresses me when a company admits they made a mistake and goes above and beyond to make it right. Thanks Benly!

Had to come by 2x now for nail in tire fix (different tires lol) … Both times drove in, 35 bucks — walked over to whole foods and by time I was back tire reading to roll!

I don’t usually write reviews but I feel the necessity to write one right now. First off, I have been a long time customer of J&J. I have had my tires, shocks/​struts and brakes changed.
I thought the pricing was fair for the most part. However today’s repair was a different story. I brought my car into the shop because I had a gurgling noise on my left wheel. I was told I will need to have both bearings repaired. I was quoted $ 705.00 which I later found out was a ridiculous price. Keep in mind this is only to replace two bearings which shouldn’t cost more than $ 100.00 each for a normal Honda Accord sedan. That means they charged the rest for labor, which is unforgiving.
I thought that being a loyal customer I would be offered a honest price for the repair. But that is not the case today. All I am saying is think twice before bringing your car to this shop and do your research.
Also, based on how little business this shops gets in my recent visits (they have all been on saturdays) is a major red flag. Maybe other customers are realizing they are better off taking their business elsewhere.

These guys did a great job for me. I bought my tires at TireRack & had them delivered to J&J (one of TireRack’s recommended installers), & they emailed me a couple of days later when the tires came in to set up a time to come in & get them.
Of all the places near me with good reviews, their prices were the ones that seemed the most reasonable. The final bill was exactly what I was quoted, & the job was done in exactly the amount of time that I was told. They also walked me through what the alignment computer found & what that meant for my tire wear, which was helpful & something no other place has ever done for me before.
Friendly, helpful, accurate quotes, reasonable prices, solid work… I will definitely come back.

I have been using J&J for now 5 years and 4 vehicles. New tires and repairs. Always very fast and reasonably priced. They are very accomodating to your schedule and always finishes the job quickly as promised. I have never had problems with these guys they get the job done. They are 2 blocks from Extreme Pizza so its easy to drop the car, have lunch, and be ready for pickup!

45 for patching a flat? It shouldn’t cost more than $ 20. I ended up here because my normal and more awesome place was closed on Saturday. Won’t come back.

Just one experience, but flawless. I will be back.
Really this is just a tire service company, but they could teach the SF Audi & Mercedes dealers a few things about customer service.
Their actual space is dumpy (small, smokey), but I can deal with that b/​c first, I care about their service and second, I am not hanging there for lunch. I am sure that their lack of space contributes to the reasonable prices. The dirtiness is probably because it is a tire shop!
They put four tires on rims and then swapped out winter for summer rims. The price was honest and straightforward.
They pulled all the tires out of my trunk and put them all back. When I got my hands dirty from helping squeeze an extra rim in to the car, they were more polite than a Four Seasons staffer in getting me to a sink with the correct soap and a (paper) towel. Disorienting. This is just a tire shop! Are they this good with everyone, every time?

Still very happy with J & J Tire. They never let a gal down!

Got the recommendation by a friend, because I had a nail in my rear tire. Went into it and got it fixed within 15 minutes for $ 20.

Explain something to me, will ya? How can it be that I regularly find nails in my tires? Every morning I back my car out of my garage at home and drive about 5 miles to my garage at work. I don’t go off-​roading, and I stay away from construction sites.
I have to believe it’s an inside job. Someone out there hates me. If you’re the one who’s doing it on purpose, could you please stop? There are better ways to entertain yourself, and there are MUCH better way to annoy me. This nail in the tire thing is getting OLD.
Anyway, I needed to have the nail surgically removed and the puncture wound patched up. At a recommendation of a friendly gas station attendant at 5^th and Harrison, I went to J&J Tire. I drive down Folsom St. every single morning on the way to work, and I’ve never noticed this place. Where the hell have I been — the place looks like it’s been there for years!
Anyway, I came in and waited. The owner of J&J, Alex, was on the phone. He turned around and gave me a wave. I interpreted it to mean, as Carl’s Jr. people would say, «don’t bother me, I am eating. » Feeling mildly claustrophobic in the tiny, cramped «waiting room» with waaaay too many chairs per square foot, I went back outside to make sure I didn’t get a ticket. He emerged from the garage a minute later, asked me a couple of questions and told me to pull the car into the garage.
A mechanic emerged from the dark annals of J&J and examined the tire. He was Chinese and spoke Cantonese or Mandarin (pardon my ignorance). Alex translated for me: «There’s a nail in your tire. We can patch it up from the outside — $ 20 or patch it up from the inside — $ 60.» I decided to splurge and opt for the $ 60 service. «20−25 minutes,» Alex said.
I came back 20 minutes later, and my car was ready to go. I tried to get the attention of the gentleman behind the counter, but he said «someone will be right with you» and continued to ignore me. Soon, Alex showed up and asked me to wait a couple of minutes. I stood there and waited why he helped another customer who was Chinese and spoke Cantonese or Mandarin (again, pardon my ignorance). He was buying a set of 4 tires, so he was a higher margin customer, too.
5 stars for solving my problem in 30 minutes less 1 star for making feel unimportant = 4 stars.
P. S. Nails and tires do not mix. Remember that, kids.
