Specialties

Izzy’s Steaks & Chops is San Francisco’s Favorite Steakhouse. Experience for yourself why we are San Francisco’s Favorite! Sure we serve small plates. What else would we put our butter on?

Izzy’s is not a chain! Locally owned and operated, Izzy’s Steaks & Chops has long been a favorite of San Franciscans who appreciate the very best Midwestern steaks and chops. All our beef is corn fed and our New York Steaks are aged at least 21 days to produce a one of a kind flavorful product. This is the traditional way steaks have been served by the best steak houses in America for over a hundred years.

Because our customers cannot live on beef alone, we offer the freshest, just caught, local fish, as the market allows.

Everyone has the choice of two side dishes with each main course. These vary, but always include such favorites as creamed spinach, «Izzy’s own» potatoes and other fresh vegetables.

History

Established in 1987.

If you want to know why San Francisco is such a spawning ground for creativity, birthing such movements as the Beatniks & Hippies, you only have to pay a visit to one of its first genuine Bohemian grottos.

Izzy really knew how to throw a party, especially during the Prohibition era where he pushed the envelope operating the restaurant as an underground speakeasy. A loudly talked about secret. Everyone that was anyone came.

Making a buck at the end of the day wasn’t always Izzy’s goal. Izzy commonly accepted works of art as payment which he would lovingly hang on the walls. Considering the eyebrow raising amount of mish mashed paintings up & down our walls, you have to wonder how he managed to pay rent.

When you come in, you’ll see glamorous black & white photos of yesteryear, news clippings gossiping about the latest Izzy’s party gone out of control, & way too many paintings add delightful & historical taste to the rich woods & brick walls that make our restaurant so homey.

Meet the Manager

Edwin R.

Manager

This was the first of the «Modern» Izzy’s and was opened on Izzy’s Gomez Birthday, by Sam DuVall, a veteran San Francisco Restaurateur in February of 1987. Many photos of the original Izzy’s and much old San Francisco memorabilia hang from the walls making the restaurant a history laden spot which appeals to history buffs of all ages. Friendly wait staff, great food, and a wonderful atmosphere combine for a memorable dining experience.
