Island Park Storage

HUGE thank you to Mike. He went out of his way to make my day. I rented a 1 way truck from U-​Haul in Denver CO on Feb 22. Left Denver on the 23^rd and landed in SF on the 24^th. My 1 way truck rental came with 1 month of free storage and I chose the Bayshore U-​Haul storage in Candlestick because it is a 3 minute drive from where I’m staying. We arrive at the Bayshore U-​Haul location, only to be shown the unit I was supposed to be renting and it was literally a closet, corner unit, which was not going to fit my 17 ’ truck worth of possessions. U-Haul’s website said the unit I was reserving was for a 2 bedroom home, 1200 – 1600 sq ft. Since I was packing up a mostly 1 bedroom home and under 1,000 sq ft then I trusted that I would have gotten more than I needed. The corner unit however was useless because you lose use of the corners and I had reserved a square unit anyway. The woman at U-​Haul was friendly but rather than finding me a new unit somewhere else she said «hey drive over to Bryant St and see if they have one». So tired, after an 11 hr drive, I drive over to Bryant St. That woman told me they didn’t have anything in my size either. Rather than sending me on another goose chase though she reserved me the biggest unit she could find at Island Park Storage and gave me a confirmation number. Island Park was closed for the day so I went home and left my truck in a parking lot over night. The next day I drove over to Island Park Storage and explained what I’d been through very kindly to Mike. He was appalled at what I’d been through so far (though I think I was handling it pretty good so far, only breaking into tears once at the Bryant St location because I was really tired from my road trip and just wanted to get my truck unloaded). Mike called up the other locations and chewed them out on my behalf, then got my truck rescheduled to be dropped at his location (since even though my storage was in limbo at this point, I was still going to have to drive the truck back to the original Bayshore location to drop it off, which may have put me over on my mileage). Then Mike was able to secure me a less expensive unit than the woman had originally booked me for, and got me all sorted. And he waived my deposit for me because of what I’d been through already.
Mike wasn’t able to fix everything, like getting my refund of money from Bayshore since I am supposed to get a month for free but that wasn’t working out, but I wouldn’t have expected him to because Island Park is only a dealer of U-​Haul and not directly affiliated with them. I appreciated that he did more than anyone else at the Bayshore or Bryant St U-​Haul locations did, as their attitude was more of a «not my problem». Mike was the only one that cared that I was being jerked around and he fixed what he could for me. That was exactly what I needed after wandering from storage facility to storage facility.

I came here Sunday and the guy behind the counter was really helpful. There were two people in line, one ahead of me and one behind me, plus he was answering phone calls left and right, but I never felt like I wasn’t receiving service. He took care of my paper work efficiently, tended to the phones and communicated with everyone in the store, and was really friendly. I was impressed with his service and felt really bad when the woman behind me threw a fit over asking about a ladder. The guy communicated to her that he’d have to look for a ladder and that he needed to show me to my storage space before he’d be able to do so. She pressed the matter and quickly jumped to the conclusion that he was being rude and unhelpful, when she clearly wasn’t listening. To boot she was condescending, people like her drive me crazy, but the guy kept his cool and I’m sure took care of her after, but I was pissed for him.

Never come here!!! Extremely rude staff. His name is Alex (he didn’t give his last name when I asked for it). For my kind request to provide a ladder he just told me to leave because he doesn’t have time to look for a ladder. And that’s on Sunday afternoon when there are no customers around! He literally kicked me out of his office when I asked again for a ladder.

The perfect solution for reclaiming my 2 car garage!
I don’t drive and didn’t want the hassles of finding a spot, hiring a crew (and feeding them pizza), renting a U-​haul, loading, unloading etc. For $ 99 I got 2 strong guys to show up with my container, everything loaded on site, and driven away in less than 2 hours. I live in a condo complex where I can’t have a storage container parked in the fire lane near my garage over night. Many other similar facilities won’t pick up a dropped off container the same day. They were gentle with my furniture and helped me go through taped boxes to see what was in them first. Friendly yet very professional.

I got a great deal from them (price was right and timing was perfect), and even better was one of their staff members named Mike.
He went out of his way to make sure my things were taken care of because I was out of town undergoing surgery. I had my items delivered to the storage and picked up without ever going there to see anything. Mike was very nice and gave me follow up calls.
After a month of getting my things out of the storage, I called Mike again to thank him.
I would definitely recommend them, or use their storage whenever an opportunity arises.
It’s unfortunate that everyone can not be satisfied. Worse is that most people these days can not be pleased no matter how hard you try.
Anyways, my experience was 100% satisfaction.

Hi, I’m not one for writing reviews but I think a warning a necessary for this place. A couple months back I needed a place to store some stuff as I sold a house and needed to quickly get things out so I chose Island Storage based on the price and the fact that the reviews made me think my stuff would be relatively safe.
The entire experience was strange from the start. I made a reservation on sparefoot and when I showed up to move my stuff in on the first day of my reservation, they told me that there wouldnt be any openings for 2 days and that there would be plenty of space then, as long as I didnt care that my unit would be in a construction zone. The guy who helped me was mike and he was the one person that I actually trusted as more sketchiness ensued.
I came back two days later and was helped out by this guy who doubles as a security guard and clearly did not know what he was doing. He brought me to my space and I had to explain to him that it seemed much smaller than what I reserved. After pleading with me a bit, he made a phone call and then brought me to a different unit which was the correct size. After giving me a few details about the place, he split. When I went to lock up (with the type of lock they recommended I buy) I realized there was no latch on my unit so I have to call this guy to come back and get this squared away. He was not happy nor friendly, and from my observation, not very good at his job or providing customer service.
I felt slightly uncomfortable as I left my stuff in this construction zone but I really never imagined that I would come back 3 weeks later to find half of my stuff gone. A TV, power tools, A big backpack filled with shoes, my grandfathers watch, etc. etc… The only thing I would have really been bummed about was my camping gear, which for the most part, was still there. When I arrived at the unit I struggled a bit to open to cylinder lock on my unit and I even doubted myself and then tried to open the one next to it because I couldnt get it at first. Oh yeah, friendly customer service guy promised that they would be putting a unit number on my unit and emailing me a confirmation which they never did so I didnt actually know the unit #. Anyway, after jiggling the lock with the key for a bit I finally got it to open which is when I realized that a bunch of stuff was stolen.
This is where things got real frustrating as the nice guy MIke grabbed his boss, a tallish guy with an accent, to come see what was going on. The boss guy absolutely did not believe that anything could have been stolen and kept berating me and asking me to tell him how someone could have done this. Without any evidence that someone cut a hole in the wall or broke my lock, there was no way, according to him. I’m usually pretty calm but this guy was so defensive it was hard to think that he didnt have something to do with it, or was at least protecting someone (or maybe just the reputation of the storage place). He basically said there was no reason to call the police because there was no evidence and that the only thing he could do was to look through some video tapes to see if he noticed anything. I knew my stuff was never coming back but I thought they should take some responsibility or at least e sensitive to the fact that my shit was stolen. oh yeah, they offered to cover my insurance at $ 7/​month as a sign of good faith.
I knew that this guys was not going to do anything and I assumed they would never call me back. A few days went by and I kept trying to piece together ever single little thing I had in there so I can better determine exactly what was stolen. Then I realized a bunch of personal documents were stolen so I went back to the unit confirmed they were gone and then called the police. Not sure what good the police were going to do but Ive heard horror storied about identity theft and figured it was probably best that I had an actual police report if I ever had to deal with any of that. The police came, were very cool about it and unlike the assholes that works there, believed that someone could have broken in somehow. BUt unless they saw my stuff in a room of contraband there was really nothing they were going to do.
To make this story short (or at least to end it), I never got anything back. They never called me back and they never refunded me the $ 50 rent that I had paid and told them I wanted refunded. I got my stuff out of there the day after I filed the police report and found a new place in San Mateo which has been a completely different experience. It was my first time ever using a storage facility and I know realize the tremendous difference in security that an extra $ 30 /​month can get you.
Oh well, my fault for not trusting my gut. maybe? Stupid to not call the cops right away, probably? Careless that I packed a bunch of crap in this place and didnt take a meticulous inventory of everything I put in it. Probably. THE END!

By far the best experience I’ve had with a storage facility. The rates are reasonable, the facility is safe, and above all their customer service is great! Mike in particular is extremely helpful and nice, I’d recommend this place based on his dedication to customer service alone.

Favorite uhaul… they are nice, friendly and very helpful. Service is 5 stars, 10 out of 10. It is easy to park your car overnight. Location is also ideal. I’ve been to a lot of Uhauls as a student and this one is by far my favorite. I will go out of my way to continue using their service.

I have used Island Park Storage on multiple occasions for the storage of large promotional vehicles as well as for storage of materials. The staff always goes above and beyond to meet our needs whether it be assisting with late night access, receiving and storing packages, and even extra annoying last minute request have always been dealt with in a friendly and professional manner. Alex and Michael are true gems and I will continue to do business here as well as refer Island Park Storage to other clients/​customers.

BEWARE!
There is condensation leaking into my unit and now there is mold ALL over everything that I own. The owners put me off and are being hard core. They refunded my money, promised in writing that they would not charge me until it was resolved and now are threatening to put a lien and sell/​dispose of my items behind my back… even though they sent me an email saying that they would not.
My $ 40,000 worth of insurance WILL NOT cover the damage because the unit was not properly taken care of. There is proof of moisture leaking into the unit AND one owner said that they would handle it and now the other… Is Bullying and threatening me.
I contacted their tenant insurance carrier and even if I had purchased their supplemental insurance, it would not cover this damage.
They have been stringing me along since April 22^nd.
They refuse to submit it to their insurance and now I am being forced to hire an attorney.
There have been NUMEROUS problems with this company since day one. They are charming and wonderful when they want your money and business. Just don’t have a problem.
If you care about your possessions and what you are storing. Take care and be safe. THIS IS NOT A SAFE PLACE TO STORE YOUR VALUABLES!!!

Hey fellas, no need to look for another storage place in SF if you need convenient and reasonably priced storage units. Try Island Park Storage!
Here is the story.
I was in urgent need of a storage unit with a close proximity to SF downtown. I spent days searching for a right place. Well, many of them were either not available or super expensive until my friend referred me to Island Park Storage. They are located so conveniently in terms of logistics (I need to visit my unit often) that I picked them right away. Mike and Alex were super nice and helpful there. More of this they recommended Route 66 Moving for my move. Everything was coordinated with my minimal participation and prices both for the storage and moving service were very competitive and right within or even below my budget. I could sign all paperwork right on the day of the move. No hassle. Good prices. Saved time.

Called to make reservation, very fast and easy process. On the day of the move, my movers showed up at the facility before I did, the young man in the office called me to verify and showed my movers to the unit. When I finally arrived, my movers were finishing up and all of the paperwork was ready awaiting my signature. Extremely efficient operation.
PS: they even have free red bull for customers :))

I was a client for 9 months — in March everything changed when we had our containers opened and ransacked for several hours late one night. The thieves (in my opinion — it was not a raccoon– but a group of more than one by the damage and theft done) gained entrance where an internal hodge podge mismatched security fence had been pushed over (held together with a piece of wire). No one saw it including employees that work for the company (security?) It was not caught on cameras are there are no cameras in the area, And we could not check who was in the area or not as — the security lock is a manual lock on a chain.
1. Read what you sign — Island Park Storage and the owners and managers are not responsible for anything that could go wrong — i.e. theft, damage or any other problem you might have. Zero responsibility. Then check your insurance policy and what they do and do not cover (if a security fence was never installed properly and you notify the owners of the storage unit and they ignore repeated requests, do not fix it and a loss happens some insurance companies (State Farm) might say no way we are not covering that…
2. Ask to meet the security team and the onsite live-​in manager. Just ask…
3. Ask about access codes and when the last time the «manual pad lock was updated.» I am not sure but a padlock is not very technology friendly when you might want to know who was in the lot that could have broken into a unit.
4. Ask to see where are the security cameras are for each of the areas you might store your items. Again, its helpful to actually have live cameras recording who is coming and going into a «secured area.»
5. Ask to see yesterday’s security tapes for the storage area you are getting ready to rent. Well if there are only a few cameras in only a few areas (not all the exit and entrances) then there are not going to be very many in any tapes that might show your container or vehicle or whatever you are storing in a «secured lot.»
6. Check out the Treasure Island reports about radio-​active contamination. May 11, 2015 another remediation project started that borders a couple of their rental lots — 4^th street — between Avenue M and N. Ask what used to be on the land and then do your own research.
7. If you have a container — Make sure you double lock your unit with the best locks you can purchase (not the ones they sell) — making it harder for others to gain access or to lock you out of the container for any reason at any time.

Have a problem — write it down, send the owners a message and document everything — know your rights, what they can and can not charge for and it might save you time when they ask you to leave.

I researched several facilities regarding price and just judging customer service before I came across Island Park Storage. I called to inquiry about renting out storage and they were very knowledgeable and the price was right. You don’t feel like you’re getting ripped off. When I went to store my items, the staff was very friendly and made the process painless. They even offered to help me move my items since I was by myself. The main thing that I noticed that separates this business to others is that they have ²⁴⁄₇ security who is also friendly and offered to help me unload my items if I was coming back at night. I highly recommend anyone to come here for the price, security, and for me that’s most important, the customer service.

These guys run a good business and Mike is a great front man!
He helped me get my car into storage in half an hour and went the extra mile and gave me a ride to the bus stop! Thanks mate!

A shockingly well run storage company with helpful ²⁴⁄₇ customer service. Wish more small business operated like these guys.
I needed a place to store my car for a few months. It’s $ 90/​mo here and you get ²⁴⁄₇ in/​out. There’s always a security guard on duty. When I came to pick my car up late one night, the battery was dead. One of the guys heard me grumbling about the dead battery and came over with a jumper battery pack and saved the day.
Payments are easy — no crazy contract, they bill recurring with Square.
Also make sure to enjoy the views of SF and the new Bay Bridge on your way out.
