Our number one focus in our children’s classes is is safety. By teaching a child focus, integrity, and a «Yes I can!» attitude, the I.O.M.A.S.D.A. system mentally guides children through life, emphasizing community interaction, educational and family values, and personal achievement.
Adult’s classes have a wide variety of focus. We offer Women’s Self-Defense, Ju-jitsu, Parkour and regular classes for personal growth and development. Sensei Reed cycles through forms (katas), cardio and strength training infusing it all within applicable self-defense techniques tailored for your body. Our team ensures a positive and supportive class environment for everyone.
History
Established in 1972.
The founder of the I.O.M.A.S.D.A Karate system is Grandmaster Professor R. Sinclair Sr. He is a 10th degree black belt who has numerous degrees in various styles of martial arts. In a time of rampant escalation of violence in the United States, he realized the need for a more realistic and practical style of martial arts usable in any situation. In 1972, Grandmaster Sinclair coined the system, «Ultimate Crime Stopper.» The «Ultimate Crime Stopper» was taught widespread to the New York City Police Department’s Finest (NYPD) in 1973. This system was a prototype of the Iron Octopus Martial Arts Survival Defense System (I.O.M.A.S.D.A) which fuses the essence of numerous martial arts into one cohesive system; a feat that had originally been taboo. Grandmaster Sinclair conquered the face of adversity becoming the first African American to create a martial arts system in the United States and was able to leave lasting legacy through his one of a kind art.
