These guys were great in recovering my data from a dead hard drive. I would recommend them to anyone. A bit pricey but worth it.

A while ago, one of my hard drives started clicking and had become unreadable. As this hard drive was my primary photo storage (of course, stupidly not backed up), I was quite anxious about the upcoming $ 400‑1600 bill. Still, memories being priceless, I decided to bite the bullet and bring the drive to the best-​reviewed data recovery outfit I could find: IntelliRecovery. Their staff member Andy was efficient and responsive, and my hard drive was in his capable hands within the day.
The next day, I received a phone call from Andy, informing me that the drive was functioning. They had opened up the case and cleaned up stuff a bit, and when they tested the drive for issues, they found that data was reading and writing just fine. Andy suggested I backup the data ASAP just in case the drive started acting up again and returned it to me.
I braced myself for the final bill. .. which turned out to be $ 0. Andy explained they didn’t do anything special — they essentially just disassembled and reassembled my hard drive, so there was no charge. Nice!
The hard drive did end up clicking and failing again a few weeks later, but not before I had set up my data backup solution. My photos and data are now synced up between three backup drives in different locations.
If any of my drives have problems again in the future, I will definitely be returning to IntelliRecovery. It’s good to know they aren’t in the business of charging me for no good reason.

I knew what to expect from Hugh B.‘s review, and I’ve been quoting it ever since: «Can you put a price tag on stupidity… between $ 400 and $ 1600.»
Yes, it was around $ 1400 to recover 3TB of video, photos, and other files, and it was worth every penny. I didn’t really expect to get it all back; they warned me that might be the case. But I did, and I’m happy, and it was the best $ 1400 I’ve ever spent. And, of course, completely unnecessary. (It was a new drive! I was planning to back up! And other assorted excuses. Back up your data, everybody.)
Another plus: No mailing the hard drive; they do the work in-​house.

My external drive with all my photos crashed — I took the drive to a couple of guys who couldn’t help me but found this place on Unilocal and decided to give it a try. I’m so glad that I did — Andy was able to recover all of my sentimental photos and was super friendly and efficient. I’d highly recommend this place anytime to anyone!

Like others, I also found this business on Unilocal.I don’t know why anyone would use any other data recovery service if you’re in the Bay Area. Here’s why:
1) They have a clean room on site. They don’t ship your precious hard drive to a lab in Canada or across the country. I’ve seen horror stories online about further damage happening to hard drives that get sent through the mail.
2) They don’t charge you to just open up your hard drive and give you a quote like other vendors do. They give you a free quote.
3) If they recover your data, you pay the quoted price. That’s it. Just the quoted price.
4) If they don’t recover your data, you pay nothing. Why would they do this? Their representative said that the company knows that many of their potential customers are individual households that don’t have the resources to pay up front and get nothing in return. And they’re so confident in the skill of their engineers that they’re not too worried about doing unpaid work.
5) if they recover part of your data, you get to view what they recovered. If you like what you see, then you pay a reduced rate. If not, then you pay nothing.
For point #5, I’m going by what the representative told me because Intellirecovery seems to have recovered all of our data. I had not backed up for about 4 months, then I knocked our laptop off of the coffee table while it was running. When I opened it, all I heard was the click of death. My wife was devastated. All of the photos of my then 18 month old daughter were stored on that computer. What made matters worse, I found out that my back up software had failed to back up about ²⁄₃ of our photos. I was using the software that came with my WD hard drive by the way. Now I’m using both ZipCloud and Time Machine. Thank God for Intellirecovery. We have our precious pictures back!

They were able to recovery everything from my clients hard drive.
While the price is not cheap, it is worth it if you need your data back and they did a great job.
I would definitely recommend them for tough hard drive recovery jobs in the Bay Area.

How does one put a price on precious baby photos??! I thought I had lost all of mine and I was totally stressed out. I saw Hard Drive 911 but then I noticed it was run out of a home in Noe Valley which didn’t sit well with me.
I then found IntelliRecovery whose office has been operating in San Francisco since 2003. Reviews were great, so I gave them a try. I was happy I did as they recovered ALL of my irreplaceable photos! I highly recommend them!!!

I recently had my precious backup drive fall off my counter and needless to say, it stopped working. I brought it to Best Buy and they can’t help with damaged drives. I asked around and was told «the» data recovery house in San Francisco is IntelliRecovery. Paid them a visit and found them to be super helpful and reasonable. Within 24hours, they had a diagnosis for me and I gave them the green light. Within about 4 days, I was contacted telling me my precious data is fully recovered and to schedule a time to pick it all up. I was ecstatic and grateful.

After moping around for a day not knowing what to do, I jumped onto the internet to see what I could find. It kind of felt like I needed a tragedy counselor as years my life could be lost… Called these guys and they were patient, informative, and just a few miles away!

What happens when your «backup» at your business crashes? _​Call these guys!!!
Mine crashed in the interim of switching from one computer to another _​After I had a mild (!) melt down (businesswomen cry too!) I called a place in Marin that was recommended to me. They wanted an enormous sum of money to attempt data recovery on my drive. After Googling around for an hour or two, I found favorable reviews for IntelliRecovery. I was comforted by the fact that they’re close to my San Carlos office. I went on their website and fill out their form. They called me at the beginning of the next businerss day (yes, they have families to get to in the evening too!). I was able to drive to their facility right next to Candlestick Park (Go 49’ers!) and drop it off.
I opted for the least expensive /​longer lead time so it’s been a couple of weeks since the «great crash». I just picked up my rescued data and have reviewed what was recovered by them. I am very pleased at the results. There are some picture files that are bad, but they were probably bad when I initially saved them. No big loss. All of my drawing & data files are intact !
What I’ve learned /​What you need to know?
1. Back up your files 3 times. Twice isn’t enough! I went into the cloud. It’s pretty cool!
2. Don’t panic — there’s usually a way out of a jam like this.
3. Don’t be in a hurry to get data recovered. If it can wait a few days (and it usually can), you’ll save a bundle of money!

I was a bit distraught when my home laptop totally died on me. It had everything on there including projects I’ve been working on for work along with my invaluable photos/video’s of my daughter. I didn’t know where to start but my co-​worker knew of a place that did jobs for the bank I work for.
The location is convenient as it’s right off the 101 freeway and has a free parking lot. Even though the neighborhood states Bayview/​HP, it’s actually located where the nice office buildings are off the freeway and no where near the «questionable» part of town. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and it helped that they do free quotes. I heard most others charge an assessment fee.
Overall a very positive experience that I hope to not have to go through again. Data was fully recovered from my hard drive and I would definitely recommend these guys!

Had a Great Experience here. I mean when something like a harddrive crapping out to you happens, it is probably one of the worse things that can happen. All your photo memories wiped out with the blink of an eye. All the Great Music accumulated over the years. BAM. GONE. It’s like years of your life have just been erased.
But IntelliRecovery made a bad situation great. Service was excellent. They tried to give me a realistic picture of it going in and I appreciated that honesty. Really, you can’t put a pricetag on memories. It’s as one credit card company calls it, priceless.
So needless to say, IntelliRecovery was able to get me back everything that I thought I has lost. It’s like getting a second life. And now, I am very careful to save my files in 2 places, just in case.

I had a customer that had one of those Friday just before happy hour server crashes that always turn out to be really really bad. Let’s just call it total and catastrophic 2012-​like failure.
Anyway, I called around, compared costs, professionalism and bedside manner and then chose IntelliRecovery. I’m happy we did.
In the time frame they stated, they recovered all of the data and copied it to an external USB drive. Needless to say we were ecstatic.
It’s not cheap when compared to the cost of a flat panel tv but when compared to missed deadlines, recreating the lost data and the stress of telling someone all their data might be gone — it was a bargain.
Oh yeah, don’t just run your backup application; check that it restores too. =)

My boyfriend went out of town for a week and left me with his beloved laptop and external hard drive so I can fuss with all our pictures for a scrapbook. As I was going through our 8 years worth of photos, something HORRIBLE happened and I freaked out. Everything on the computer froze!
