Description

Specialties

The mission of Instituto Familiar de la Raza, Inc. (IFR) is to promote and enhance the health and well-being of Chicanos/Latinos and multicultural/multiracial youth. That mission is realized through a continuum of mental health, HIV-related and social services including health promotion and prevention, early intervention, case management, clinical mentoring, family support, comprehensive behavioral health services, and cultural/spiritual activities and practices.

History

Established in 1978.

IFR was founded in 1978 as the first Chicano/Latino focused mental health center in San Francisco. Over the past 28 years, the agency has evolved into a multi-service community health and social service agency with over 80 bilingual/multicultural and multidisciplinary staff. The agency serves approximately 4,000 clients and their families each year through its multiple programs. IFR serves children, youth, adults and families/caretakers, and has an extensive history of working collaboratively with other agencies to meet the needs of our clients and the Mission District community.

IFR seeks to minimize the barriers to clinical services while maximizing their effectiveness. Implicit in this approach is a respect for the psychological reality of the Chicano/Latino population.
