Helen is awesome! Stopped in today because I was in need of a haircut and was waiting for somewhere that is familiar with Asian hair. She is very thorough and communicates clearly what she’s doing. She is gentle and takes her time finishing every step. She also gave me some haircare and styling tips in case I couldn’t come back in a few months. And the price for a haircut is also awesome! I’m definitely coming back for my next hair cut.

Best deep conditioning trmts $ 35 and hair cuts for a great price $ 15 for women, $ 10 for men. I have really long, dry hair. She does a great job at styling too & is just very kind & always gets you in.
Helen is just really awesome and does a great job. Cash only so remember to go to the bank first.

So glad I found this little gem! I used to go to European Wax center where they nickel and dime you for every little extra bit they have to do, and they don’t even do that great of job. They just want to get you in and out. Helen takes her time and she is a perfectionist. She makes you feel comfortable and when you are a super jumpy person like me, she breathes with you to calm you down. She takes her time and won’t stop until all the hairs are taken out. You don’t even need to tell her to go back to get a few hairs, because she is on top of it. At other waxing places, they won’t even take tweezers to get a few spare hairs that didn’t get lifted with the wax. You can’t beat the price either, only $ 30 bucks for a Brazilian.

I have been to HK Mona twice for a haircut. The first time, I got a good haircut, so I went back again. However, the second time the haircut I received was terrible — I wanted just a simple bob and I asked for just an inch to be taken off all round. The result was uneven, shorter on one side than the other, several longer strands and longer neck hairs — which I didn’t notice until I got home. I had to go to another hairdresser to have it evened up. She agreed it was a terrible job but could not do too much without cutting it much shorter than I wanted. Result is, I will have to wait at least a month for it to grow out and have it properly cut.
When HK Mona cut my hair the second time, she just combed it down and cut all round the bottom, whereas the previous time, she (as other hairdressers do) divided the hair into sections to cut. Obviously, she was just not interested in taking the time to do it «right», although she was not busy; I was the only customer. She was just not attentive or interested in what she was doing. Part of the problem was that while she as working on my hair, she was having a conversation with a young man seated behind us.
Yes, this was a «cheap» haircut. However, expensive in the end as I had to pay again to have it fixed, as best as possible. Beware: If you go to HK Mona, you may or may not get a good haircut — depending on what her mood is at the time, it seems. I suggest you not take the risk.

Just got a haircut from Helen. Love it!!! I love it so much, she will be my permanent hair dresser from now on. I will come every 2 weeks for a haircut. Thanks Helen!

This place is GREAT for my hair, and just got ombré coloring done by Helen. She is so nice, patient, and explains everything as she’s cutting or coloring. My hair is abnormally stubborn when it comes to coloring — it just resists color or bleaching. Mainly because I’ve been dying it black, purple, pink, red over and over at home every month. So it doesn’t take bleaching or added color. It’s also dry as hay.
But Helen’s patience, coloring techniques and moisturizing hair masks gracefully battles the stubbornness of my hair — and wins!
She also does a great job with men’s hair — she did great for my bf. And when getting my color done, I watched a bunch of guys come in for cuts, and walk out looking sharp!

This lady is awesome. She gave me a new do, which i absolutly love. She definitely listens to what you want, takes her time and doesn’t go crazy with the scissors. Definitely be back for another cut and color.

Came here for a brazilian because my regular woman was out of town. Helen totally rocked it out! She was so friendly and really knew what she was doing. She listened to exactly what I wanted and took her time to make sure it was perfect. Best part??? Only $ 30! I will definitely be coming back here in the future.
Tip: Don’t be scared by the waxing room… it’s definitely a little small and cluttered but hey… it’s clean and cheap!

Found this place on the busy streets in the Richmond area and couldn’t be happier! Helen was great and very attentive to what I wanted. Definitely will be going back and definitely recommend it to others!

Literally the best back wax I’ve ever had. Helen goes so fast you barely feel a sting. I’m never getting waxed anywhere else! And Helen is super nice as well! Also: somehow the best wax I’ve ever had is one of the cheapest?!?

I found this place by accident since it wasn’t on a busy street. But I’m glad I did! Helen was great! She was very attentive who took her time cutting my hair. She also sanitized everything beforehand. I think I found a new place to cut my hair!

I love her, been going to her since i was about 15 or 16, I love the results every SINGLE time, wouldnt go to anyone else except for her, shes not like other hairstylists that you might go to and rushes on doing your hair and then take another customer just so they could make more money, NO. She honestly cares and listens to each of her customer’s needs and make sure you’re satisfied with your hair.
What more can i say? BEST HAIRSTYLIST EVER! (((((:

I’ve always had an excellent haircut here. I have super straight hair and she always does a fantastic job at a fantastic price. I come all the way from Oakland too!

I have been avoiding a hair cut for over a year now and my over processed hay-​like hair was finally treated by the lovely Lily! She is freaking powerful with her scissors. Since I have always had long hair, she was attentive to my needs and delivered a perfect cut. I will definitely be coming back. If you want an inexpensive cut with an attentive stylist, come here because you will not regret it! Btw, call ahead of time because she does get busy.

What an experience. I hesitated a bit when deciding to get my hair permanently straighten. I came with my friend, and we both decided to go to Mona Salon.
Since it is my first time, I was concern how this will either damage my hair, or I envision my hair falling off.
No worries. It was a GREAT experience. Lily Wu is the salon owner and is great at her craft.
I spent about 4 hours at her Salon, but it was comfortable with magazine to read while she work her magic. They even give me water to cool my thirst while I sit.
Process:
Washed hair, then treatment, sit, straighten, treatment for the nice shine, sit and then finally washed, blow dry.
Final Cut: Ta da!
It looks gorgeous when complete. My hair looks so silky and smooth. Lily also threw in a free trim to my butchered bangs from the previous hair cut for FREE.
She is a must see.

I found this place by accident. Walked in looking like TIna Turner with Einstein eyebrows and left looking ultra sleek. The head lady washed, conditioned and flat ironed my hair better than any black salon I had been too. It was light, smelled great and not laden with hair product. oh yeah all that for 33 dollars and I was out in under an hour… and that was with tip

This place isn’t too bad, but you have to get the head honcho boss lady to work on your hair. Men, children, women come here to get their hair done at the most random parts of the day. Business is light most of the time, and I always have some interesting discussion with the boss lady about school and whatnot.
If you do happen to get to wait, there’s a random assortment of magazines that are rather interesting from the comic fan to the stylish trendy person.
