Wood fired cooking & cocktail bar
History
Established in 2013.
Scott Youkilis and David Esler from Hog and Rocks and Maverick wanted to offer traditional BBQ with a Northern California spin. Hi Lo brings thoughtfully sourced cocktails and food to the heart of the Mission District using classic wood-fired cooking techniques that challenge the traditional concepts of barbecue. Hi Lo’s vibrant atmosphere finds its roots in smoking and grilling — the perfect accompaniment to great food and a good time.

Scott Youkilis
Owner
Cincinati native, Youkilis has been a San Francisco resident for more than a decade. He misses Skyline Chili, but gets to root on his hometown teams (Reds and Bengals) and his brother’s Yankees with his son Everett, wife Stacy, and their newest son Charlie from their digs on Potrero Hill. While any spirit suits his busy lifestyle, it’s the brown, aged juice from Kentucky that gets poured up the most. Up, neat, rocks, or sour, it’s the bartenders call. Scott can also be found at Maverick and Hog & Rocks, or promoting his use hot sauce at several choice locations around town. His love for art, culture, food and family make Italy his regular vacation destination. Indie rock, Alt-Country, and Phish blares from his car rides to the Farmer’s Market while checking The Independent’s upcoming artists

«Hog & Rocks is SF’s first ham & oyster bar. Rising Star Chef Robin Song earned them a spot on The SF Chronicle’s Top 100 Bay Area Restaurants 2013.»
