Hertz Rent A Car

Although prices may be higher when comparing across Budget rent-​a-​car or Dollar, I will always choose Hertz because of their ease of use and quick check in check out with no hidden fees. Yea we do pay a bit more for our car rental, but to save the headaches and frustration means more to us than any other people.

The best… I love being a gold member, the gold choice is a great option!

Like a genius I left my iPad in the car and didn’t realize it until I made it all the way to my gate. Thankfully I had enough time to haul butt back to the rental customer service station to tell Karen about my situation. Allen immediately took action and went to find my iPad for me last minute. Hey helped me in my time of need. To be fair the phone menus were, to say the least, inhumane, robotic and abandoning. Thankfully these people were here and cared enough to help me out quickly so I got what I needed in time to make my flight back. Thanks Karen and Allen!!!

No stars. Worst experience renting a car. Long lines to wait. A few of us bailed out of line to try the phone/​computer check in. I never reached a representative. Two out of about 8 that tried the computer check in actually talked to someone. An hour to get the car, it smelled like cigarette smoke. No option to drop car off at a different location. Every single person along the way at check in, on the phone, even at return seemed disgruntled. I will never choose hertz again for a car rental.

I’m not surprised of the two stars currently on this business. I’m sure this business is doing well because of its location however; I want to also mention two people I had to deal with who are employed by hertz in the return car office, Judy and Karen were ignorant and uneducated. They do not fit in a customer service based positions. I needed help and they refused. they were very ill-​mannered people I would not rent from Hertz anymore based on this experience.
Ps my car died on me twice in one day and had to call tow service twice then I get treated bad when I go exchange it for another car. I returned it and took my business elsewhere

BUYER BEWARE, if you are new to renting cars here be careful.
I recommend making your reservation at least a week in advance, then call 1 – 2 days before arrival to make sure they will have a car for you.
You should have no problems.
If you think your going to go to the counter and get a rental, be prepared for an ordeal. I have seen people go crazy over a stupid rental car! No joke. Prepare yourself and plan accordingly.
I went through that once, just once, with a reservation. I was also, and still am a Gold member. But, it is an incredibly busy airport. Again, plan Accordingly.

Be careful renting from Hertz! They are out to nickel and dime and extract every penny possible. These folks are serving busy travelers and out-​of-​town tourists who won’t be repeat customers. Tacking on another dollar and upsetting customer won’t matter for the long term.
My car was due back at 7 PM and I returned at 8 PM; one hour later than I had agreed to return the vehicle. The rate printed on my rental contract is $ 399/​day, which is about $ 16/​hour. Hertz billed me $ 200 for the additional hour — the equivalent of $ 4,800 per day — a unilateral price increase of 1,100%.
This part of the contact is kept secret. Had I been aware of an 1,100% price increase for late hours, I would have certainty returned the vehicle one hour earlier. Per inquiry of three customer service representatives, the 1,100% price increase is correct because they say so. Nobody from Hertz was ever capable of showing me where the price increase is noted on the rental agreement.
The customer service representatives were rude and unwilling (or unable) to assist. Think AOL mid-​1995.
Hertz was not harmed by me returning the vehicle late. This occurred at 8PM on a weekday. They seemed to have plenty of vehicles in inventory.
Everything else about my rental experience was normal. It was equivalent for any rental company. The vehicle was in decent condition, aside from a faint smell of cigarette smoke. Pickup and drop off was uneventful. The people working at the rental facility were capable.
If you absolutely need to rent from Hertz, just be careful to consider everything. Especially consider vehicle interior and exterior condition, precise fuel level, and pickup/​drop off time (ask the staff what happens if you drop off late and be sure it’s in writing).
In the interest of full disclosure, five days after speaking with the customer service department, Hertz refunded one-​half of the hourly rare, which was $ 100. My perspective of Hertz remains unchanged.

The worst rental car experience I’ve ever had, and I’ve had it over and over because I rent here frequently due to my company only using Hertz. Cars are all in terrible and dirty condition. Very long lines. Nobody to help you. No phone number to call if you need help. JUST AWFUL

Easy to get to from airports. No one was checking in early but I have e-​receipts so no need to wait.

The check out process is easy. Nothing more that a business traveler can ask for.

This rental car facility was just confusing in general. There were two Hertz rental counters on two different floors. The first one we ran into had barely any line but there was a sign saying if we had reservations to go down to another floor. As soon as we get to the bottom floor we realize where the rest of the line was. There was an agent who would pull random people out of the line if they didn’t have any reservations (wait, what?) and would place them at the kiosks with an agent who lived in the machine. Half an hour later she happened to just start pulling anybody from the middle of the line and walking them to the kiosks. Luckily we were part of that pulling process and my husband was able to talk to the agent through video chat. For some reason I felt like I was waiting for another half an hour and when I asked him what they talked about he said they kept trying to sell him upgrades and additional things he can add on. Kind of defeats the purpose of making reservations ahead of time.
The return process was confusing as everyone just pulled into the garage, parked back to back and side to side, and left with their luggage. We followed suit, left our keys in the car and fingers crossed headed to our flight.

I have rented about 10 times from this airport Hertz. My car was ready every time– no delays, no issues. I’m a Hertz gold president’s circle member and I have always received on-​time text notifications of my car and have never had issues.
My only complaint where one star was lost is that my car is ALWAYS so far away. It would be nice to pick up my car from a President’s Circle stall for once.

Really wish I had read prior reviews before booking with Hertz. They tried to blame a scratch on the car on me when I returned my rental. Luckily I took a video of the car before leaving the lot, but it is still a huge hassle and hours on the phone. The care they gave me was terrible to begin with. The trunk didn’t close properly and there was rubber siding falling off.
Trust me, spend the extra 2 dollars per day and go with enterprise. I’ve always had great experiences with them.

We rented a car through Hertz a couple of months ago when we were in San Diego. In SoCal, there are toll roads where you pay with your Fast Pass and if you don’t have a Fast Pass, you have to call a special number that is posted as you’re driving through the toll, or else you are fined. It would have been nice to know that in advance. My husband and I were looking for a place to pay the toll, which doesn’t exist. Somehow, you are supposed to find that number and write it down as you are driving on the freakin’ highway. Ridiculous.
Anyway, we drove through the toll, assuming that the car would already have a Fast Pass connected to it, and we would pay those those upon returning the car. That is not what happened, and we actually completely had forgotten about it.
A couple weeks later, I received a notice in the mail that we had blown the tolls and had to pay them, plus a fine through the Highway Dept., plus a $ 30 fine through Hertz. When I called Hertz to explain the situation, they told me to call the Highway Dept. and if I could get the fine dismissed, all I needed to do was have them email Hertz and the Hertz fine would also be dismissed, which I did.
The Highway Dept. dismissed the fine and all we had to do was pay the tolls. When I provided Hertz with the email, they told me I was still responsible for their fine because the email didn’t tell them what they wanted. I wrote Hertz back and asked them what else exactly did I need to have the email say and I would contact the Highway Dept. and ask them to rewrite it, but Hertz never responded. At this point, I was at a loss because the email from the Highway Dept. stated that, «the tolls have been paid and no further action is needed.»
I noticed a few days ago that, since they had my credit card info from the previous transaction when we rented a car, Hertz went ahead and charged my credit card for the fee that they imposed without my permission. I have since taken it up with my bank and am contesting the charges.
Never again will I ever rent a car from Hertz and neither will any of my friends, who travel quite a bit.

Long lines even for gold members. Lady at desk is in audible. She says she can give me an impala which I want for reasons on spine problems then I see it’s a different car. Back to the line I go. There’s an impala next to the car I’m assigned and I let them know but they say it’s assigned to someone else and they cannot reassign it. Then I’m told about all the other cars they could give me one class down from my reservation. Huh? Well back I go to the other car, walking again right by the one I wanted. And now in pain riding the other car

I don’t love renting cars from airport locations. But necessity comes a knocking sometimes. You have to take the train to get to the rental car location. The upstairs Hertz desk area was closed. They have a big area downstairs. The line quickly grew I felt it was understaffed with employees. An employee comes over and asks if we want to use the kiosk. I decide to try it in hopes of getting out there quickly. The kiosk was a cool idea but the lady tells me she can’t help me even though I already had a reservation. So back to the line I go. It was a bit annoying because people that were behind me in the line originally had already gotten their keys. When I finally get to talk to a representative she was very helpful and updated my gold status account. She feels that’s why the kiosk representative wasn’t able to help me.
When dropping off my car the representative was not very friendly. I asked him how his day was going and he gave me a weird look.
I do think that if Hertz invested in hiring more employees they would do a better service for the customers and their brand.

Let me be clear: This is the worst collection of customer service I have ever experienced. It is not the fault of the individuals who work at this location. This entire company is a pile MBAs who only give a shit about maximizing shareholder value and could honestly give fuck all about the humans they need to make money.
Burn the whole company to the ground and start over.

Worst service I’ve ever received from a rental car company. I’ve rented plenty of cars, some from hertz some from enterprise but I needed to get a quick rental for an upcoming trip and Hertz gives discount to AAA members.
I walk into the garage area as I’ve been able to pick up rentals after making an online reservation and so I proceed to the information booth and the lady goes «what do you need?» Not even a «can I help you, hi» nothing. This was just a foreshadowing of rudeness that awaited me. I told her I made a reservation online and she said that I needed to go downstairs. Ok, that’s fine. So as my friend and I are walking, this guy in glasses comes out of the hertz plus members door where they rent our porches and Benz’. I simply said «excuse me» and he didn’t even look and me, raised up his index finger and said IM BUSY with the worst attitude. I was shocked. I’ve worked in customer service for over 10 years and never have I received such horrible customer service.
At this point, we found our way downstairs only to see a line of at least 30 people. At this rate, I’m beyond irritated and my friend and I finally get to speak with someone via webcam (they have these self service machines). After we were told we had to wait ANOTHER 30 minutes, we were just over it. We sat down and my friend mentioned how much hertz sucks and this lady heard us and decided to ask us what was wrong. I proceed to tell her I received horrible service from that guy with the glasses and the worst part is, she says «oh I know who you’re talking about. THATS JUST THE WAY HE IS»… The entire process of arriving to hertz and finally getting our car literally took 2 hours and that’s WITH a reservation.
No, that’s not ok. If the manager is reading this, I think that you should reevaluate how some of your employees are trained for providing customer service. The lady we spoke to was nice but overall, I’m never renting at this location again. Since I can’t give negative stars, the one star is for the lady who was very friendly towards the end of our visit. Back to Enterprise!

This is the most awful customer experience I’ve ever had renting a car. Average wait time is 2 hours. There are 4 people here to service about 150 people in line.
People at the «self-​serve» kiosks all seem to be having complications — lost reservations, reprocessing, or they need live assistance anyway. Half of them are not in service.
Every other rental car company next to Hertz has no line and is processing people through efficiently. Rent from someone else.
Anything has to be better than this.

Only saved from one star by the price and by one helpful employee.
There’s a wild goose chase from counter to counter when you arrive, and when we finally got to the actual location there was a huge line, for no reason. Plenty of self serve kiosks open, but on the other side of the chain. Only a few people behind counters to help. One lady, a trainee, went down the line asking if people already had reservations so they could use the kiosks and we jumped at the chance. There was no signage, and a separate line for them would be helpful. Anything to reduce the wait and congestion.
At the kiosk you use a videophone, which seemed inefficient. All the information I gave them was already in the system; why not just use your receipt to check in, and be on your way?
We weren’t offered an upgrade and I was not about to waste any more time asking. Our car was an appliance-​like Hyundai, and I would have paid more for something better, but oh well.
Returning, we waited in a long line only to be told «oh, if you already paid, just leave the keys and go.» Again, signage would have helped. You only have one person checking in dozens of cars; maybe have a system in place?
I have had much better experiences at other Hertz locations, and don’t know why this one is so awful.

Je me surprends moi-​même à donner 4 étoiles à un comptoir de locations de voitures d’aéroport, mais franchement je n’ai pas grand-​chose à reprocher au Hertz de SFO. Le truc à savoir, c’est qu’il faut s’enregistrer auparavant sur le site web de Hertz au programme Gold Plus: c’est gratuit et ouvert à tout le monde, et à SFO (et je suppose dans d’autres aéroports US) ça permet de se rendre directement au second comptoir situé au rez-​de-​chaussée du bâtiment des loueurs où votre voiture vous attend déjà, avec votre nom affiché au tableau et des formalités réduites au minimum, pendant que le vulgum pecus fait la queue en haut. Super pratique !
Pour atteindre les 5 étoiles, il faudrait que le personnel affecté au retour des voitures soit plus aimable. Encore un effort…
