Absolutely excellent! Not only was the service comfortable, friendly, and the atmosphere lovely, but the weave she did for me was the best one I’ve ever gotten. I came in with this MOP that I’ve been carrying around for a month and a half and she fixed it into something I’ve gotten nothing but compliments on. It feels light and beautiful and strong.
Be advised, she is very professional and will treat your hair well, but her braids are tight so that the weave lasts longer, and when I say tight I mean extremely tight, be prepared! Well well well worth it!

Made an appointment and was kind nervous about having a new person twist my locs. Entered the establishment to a very warm and comfy welcome. Jovan washed and twisted my locs which is no simple task being that they are past my waistline. The entire shop is a throwback to the shops of olé where you feel like you’ve known the person a lifetime while still being very professional! I’ll definitely be going back!

My husband planned a spur of the moment trip to Jamaica, and I decided I wanted my hair braided. I didn’t want to fuss with my hair. I called my regular braiders Martine and Fefe at L’Elegance Hair Braiding. I sent Martine a YouTube video of the two braids I wanted, and she suggested I call Jovann.
Turns out Jovann’s salon is right next door to L’Elegance! I made an appointment on a Tuesday for that Saturday.
I showed up for my 11:00 am appointment and was out the door by 11:45. Jovann was quick, but meticulous. She was funny and easy to talk to, and I liked that she really took her time with the braids.
My style was easy, but last year when I went to someone else the braids were SO ugly and large. I looked like a dinosaur! I promptly took those braids out in my car. Thankfully my experience with Jovann was nothing short of amazing.
My braids lasted a whole week, survived the pool, ocean, and Jamaican humidity.
I’m planning on doing my hair like this for the summer.

I had made an appointment before leaving for vacation and the stylist cancelled on me so I called Jovann and she squeezed me in the very next morning. Being that it was my first time getting my hair braided, she told me where to get the best hair for what I wanted. Jovann has an obvious passion for what she does and she makes you feel welcome and appreciated. My hair turned out amazing! And it took just under 3 hours for mid back length box braids. I’m so excited for all my vacation photos because my hair looks soooo fly! Thanks girl!

I have never been a big fan of going to the salon to get my hair done but Jovann gave some of the best customer service I have ever experienced in a hair salon. I had only ever gotten one sew-​in before and it didnt go so well, so I had many questions and concerns and Jovann was able to answer them all. It’s clear that she is passionate about her job and knows what she’s doing. As a college student I always get anxious about spending money but I definitely think it was worth the price!

Jovann did a great job on my 9-year-old’s braids, she was fast and listened to her description of what design features she wanted. The braids came down easily too. We’ve gone through a few braiders before finding Jovan, who weren’t as good or as nice, and it looks like we finally found our go-​to stylist.

I was in town for few days and I wanted something different for the week of BM that I was attending. I found Jo here on Unilocal and called. She was not working that day and next one (Sunday Monday). But I asked her if she can come over to my hotel and do my braids. And she came by! Didn’t choose any specific style but I told her to do whatever she wants and thinks it’s for me. And she did amazing job. Super professional. Came all prepared. With music and laughing we finished pretty fast !! They are still tight and didn’t change anything after a month and I didn’t even take care of them or do anything special to have them this long. Strongly recommend Jovann !! Jovann is great! I was running a few minutes late for my appointment and she was very understanding about it. It was also my first time getting a sew-​in and she walked me through the whole process.

I drive 2 hours one way to see Jovann! Jovann is a gem! She has turned my hot mess into hotness several times now. I have alopecia and she is great at covering my spots up when she braids my hair and reminds me that I have options with the beautiful weave she rocked me out with.
When I leave her chair I am beautified! My hair, my instant face life and the therapeutic touch of her hands almost puts me to sleep and makes feel even more relaxed then when I arrived. When she washes my hair I kick my foot like a dog and and want marry Jovann! I almost showed up with dirty hair today just to feel her nails on my scalp. No joke. I found Jovann via a Google search for hair braiding specialists in San Francisco and I’m sure glad I did! I called her to ask if she could fit me in same day for a French braid protective style and she confidently obliged. She was courteous, knowledgeable and expedient. In two short hours, her nimble fingers had created a beautiful new look for me for the new year. I’ll definitely be coming back soon for my next ‘do.

I rarely take the time to do a post on Unilocal,especially when it comes to posting about hairstylists. I wait at least a good solid 3 months, before sitting down and thoughtfully writing a review. I moved here from New York City and back there good stylists are a dime a dozen and having so many top notch stylists in one place can really spoil a girl. When I moved to San Francisco, one of my biggest challenges was finding a top notch stylist. Please understand that anyone can do a good job, but I have very high expectations. To me, it goes beyond just doing hair. I found stylists who did 2 – 3 good styles and than lacked afterwards. Stylists who didn’t show up on time for appointments. Stylists who smelled of liquor, overcharged, kept me in the chair for hours on end, unprofessional, etc., and the list goes on. I wanted a stylist who could not only do a phenomenal job, but one who was professional, make helpful suggestions, and one who would be there when she said she would be there. Lastly, a stylist who I could be very honest with. You can’t expect your stylist to read your mind, but you should be able to honestly express if you like a style or not. It took many years, but I found all of what I was looking for in Jovann.
Jovann is fierce. Simply put. I show up and she’s there, waiting and ready. I love the shop. It’s clean and professional. She is straight forward and no-​nonsense. She get the job done and I’ve been going to her for months now. I’ve never had a bad experience. I LOVE weaves and the hair she recommended is the best I’ve ever seen and used. Her technique is great and she has never tried to gouge me. I wear a full weave and it’s exceptional. I love my weave/​Brazilian hair so much, I constantly send her photos of me! I love her.
I can finally say, «I have a great stylist and her name is Jovann!»

I had sew-​in take out, wash and blow dry and sew-​in install done by Jovann. I brought my own weave and she provided the lace front.
Always start with the good
Jovann is quick. She was able to do all of this in less than 5 hours.
She was a conversationalist so the time went by fast
She did do a good wash and blow dry.
She was able to match the color of the lace front with the weave ombré color I already had.
She did offer to fix the style once I complained.
The bad
The braids were tight. They felt ok going in but I am also tolerant to high levels of pain so I only noticed when I saw how tight my edges were drawn into the braid. By the second day some of the bumps around my head started to bleed.
The price was high. I spent $ 475 for those services
She didn’t install the sew-​in as I had asked. I asked for a natural part and I stressed that I didn’t want it to look «wiggy». By the time it was done the braids and weave were pulled so far back that the weave started very much behind my hair line. She tried to add a track in the front to cover it but that just made it worse. I added two picture on here so you can see for yourself.
She didn’t «finish» the style. Although she did flip my «bang» she told me a style was extra so I left with the weave in its original state. The flipping seemed to be an attempt to cover the very noticeable track. I thought that $ 475 would at least cover a flat iron lol.
The cut was poor. I asked her for a swoop bang and got something choppy instead. I also asked to thin the hair but her technique left my hair not usable which meant I had to buy new hair to get the sew in redone by somebody else less than 36 hours later.
Although she did offer to fix the «do» I had lost confidence and decided to go somewhere else. I text her letting her know that I was Unsatisfied. I thought she would at least offer some money back for my troubles but she didn’t even respond. I guess once I said I let someone else redo it she was done. Once you look at the finished product look you will see why I didn’t go back for her to fix it.
Some notes from the stylist who tried to fix it and the other that did it over
1.) she uses thick string
2.) if she was going to make such big parts in the braids why didn’t she use a net
3.) this weave is chopped up bad
4.) I can’t believe she let you leave looking like that
5.) the braids were way too tight
Just an FYI… I try not to be a negative person (anymore lol) so I did tip her because I don’t like to burn bridges. This is why I was so frustrated when she didn’t offer me money back after I told her the troubles. I wound up spending $ 475 for her and $ 200 for my hair only to pay someone else $ 325 plus $ 250 for the hair to fix it.
Crazy!

Words cannot express how thankful I am for meeting Jovann! I needed some help as my natural hair and scalp were in rough shape. I was at a point where I was feeling so self conscious about my hair and hated looking at myself in the mirror. I came to Jovann practically in tears. She was so professional and such a sweetheart. She made it her goal to make me not only look beautiful, but feel beautiful. I’m so thankful for her! Jovann is 100% the best. I love my corn rolls. and here I was going to Oakland all this time to get my braids done. Jovann is really great. she took me at 6:30 pm, (which is late for any hair stylist). I called a couple of places in Oakland. and all of them said no there last appointmwent is at 5pm. Ummmmmm if You are serious about your money and you know clients have to work on saturdays, you would say yes. but I was there 30 min early, and Jovann started on me right away. i am truly happy. so no more Oakland. its all about Jovann. Higly recommended. love my corn rolls.

Great experience. Cheap, easy, and nice! Started my dreadlocks and gave me some great advice on how to maintain them and get them to lock. Will definitely come again!

I have been going to Jovann for almost a year and I could not be happier with my hair. Jovann is a professional, young, enthusiastic, talented stylist with a very warm personality who gives GREAT «customer service.» I’m from the old school and this is VERY important to me. I live in the neighborhood where Jovann does hair and I kept seeing her flyers everywhere I turned with all of her cute hairstyles which caught my attention. I had recently gone through a life changing event and after seeing her flyers I decided I needed to do something different with my hair. I needed a change!!! I soon made an appointment with Jovann and the rest is history and I have been going regularly ever since. Jovann is multi talented and does more than weaves and braids, she also, relaxes, texturizes, colors and cuts hair I know because that is what she does to my hair. These days finding a hair stylist that can do it all is hard to find and this is why I had not had a regular hair stylist in years until Jovann. I trust her so completely with my hair that there have been times I have told her to do her thing and I have never been disappointed. I also like the fact that Jovann works with my ever changing schedule and sometimes life gets hectic for me. A few months ago I needed my hair done on the same day I had to go to New Orleans and she rearranged her schedule to accommodate my last minute needs. The salon she works in is clean and the other stylists are warm and friendly and I felt comfortable the moment I walked in the door. I HIGHLY recommend Jovann. If you are looking for a professional, caring, talented hair stylist then run do not walk to «Jovann for Hair.» Her prices are very reasonable, especially in these challenging economic times.

I cannot say enough great things about Jovann. Not only does she do great hair, but she is one of the sweetest people. I came to her with my hair completly damaged from dying it to much and she worked her magic to get it back to healthy. She does a range of things and her prices you cant beat. I honestly feel she could charge more for the expert work she does. She is very knowlegable about hair and was able to tell me all types of things about my hair.
